Second time doing this sunset cruise and it's been amazing both times. Such a fun way to be out on the water in Waikīkī! Some logistics to know about: you can get validated parking at the Embassy Suites for $15 (4 hours). If you want free street parking, you'll need to come much earlier and give yourself extra time to get to check-in. Check-in itself is super easy annd it's inside the Outrigger near Monkeypod. The staff is genuinely kind and welcoming from the start. They give a quick safety talk and then walk you down to the boat You'll step into the water to board and you're not allowed to wear shoes, so honestly don't even bother bringing any. It's a catamaran with nets to sit on (my favorite spot) plus regular seating and plenty of space to move around. Unlimited drinks are included and the crew constantly checks in to see if you need anything. Both times I've gone we've seen whales, which feels so special! It is definitely choppy so if you get seasick easily this might not be your move. If you're a water baby though, you'll thoroughly enjoy this experience! It also gets windy, so bring a jacket. If you love being on the water, sunsets, and a fun but relaxed vibe, this is such a good option. Highly recommend! read more

Booked with our hotel concierge without even reading any reviews. No need. This is a great business. We checked in at their office in the Outrigger Reef and were walked over to the embarkation spot. Wear slippahs! My husband had shoes and socks . Took off right away and were welcomed with an open bar with lots of options. Great music, plenty of room to move around. We weren't sure if Oahu would deliver a great sunset because the day was kind of cloudy. Um...wow. 90 minutes of joy on the water capped by a beautiful sunset. Highly recommend! We took the Friday night adult sunset tour and really enjoyed it. We picked Holokai because it loaded up on the beach very near to our hotel (Hale Koa) but it would have been a great ride even if it wasn't as convenient to get on. The instructions are to get there a little early to sign in but no need to get there real early like we did. They also suggested that you bring a light jacket or sweater. My wife and I did but my brother and wife did not. Neither did most of the guests. We wound up using ours and some of the women in light garments wished they had. Not freezing cold but it made it more comfortable with a cover. The crew was great and attentive. They ensured that everyone had as good a time as possible. There was beer, wine and soda as well as their own concoction. Getting on and off was easy with only a few steps in the surf. The boat was full but not overcrowded. Overall, a good time and worth the price for a 90-minute ride. The views of Diamond Head and Waikiki were nice. We would do it again if we came with people who hadn't done it before. read more

It was nice until my husband got a little sick. The girl, dunno if she was an employee or just lovestruck on the bartender, but I asked for some paper towels. I was gonna clean it up myself no problem but the girl for some reason had to shout "AS LONG AS ITS NOT THROW UP" of course everyone looked up, making an already embarrassing moment into a very embarrassing public moment. Would have been a nice time even though my hubby got sick but she ruined it with her main character energy. read more

Booking was easy and price was a great value for the Sunset Cruise. Professional staff in the Outrigger resort did a good job with check in and boarding. Once on board the cruise was a dynamic and high energy experience and sailed farther west than expected making for a memorable cruise and outstanding water and Diamond Head views. Maybe coulda timed sunset a little better but that big star was definitely going down to west on the way back! Would recommend to anyone! Especially the only over 21 part of this ride. read more

My tour was pretty good. Both captains were verbally drunk, hence the rating, and went over parts of the Coast Guard mandatory briefing multiple times, which I guess is better than not at all. The only times they spoke to us was to ask if we wanted drinks from the bar. The whole trip was an hour, hour and a half-ish. The ocean was beautiful though. It was really nice to watch the ocean go from a light opal to deep natural blue. We didn't see any whales (and the captains said they hadn't seen any whales all day), but various other people aboard said they had seen turtles and other wildlife that the captains had not pointed out. The captains said they would inform the front desk that we had not seen any whales so we could come back for free at a later date--if they were being serious, it was a nice gesture. All in all, the trip was nice. I enjoyed the view of the island, my cocktail, and my company. However, I didn't enjoy the actual catamaran captains or the company that ran it; I felt very much that I could get a better experience had I gone with a different company. read more

What a lovely time on the Holokai Catamaran for the sunset cruise: great views, a safe experience, good drinks, and a pleasant atmosphere. Mitchel and Cole (and the team beforehand) made us feel safe, and we were not concerned about the ride. Even though it was safe, that does not mean it was not fun. The drinks started flowing as soon as it felt safe, and the music started bumping. The ride, though, could have been more bumpy and super pleasant. The views, the breeze, and more were fantastic. Approximately 20-30 people were on the boat, and even with that, it felt like there was enough room for all. This is your go-to activity for a nice hour or so on the water with good drinks and great views. :) read more

We saw nice sea life but the area where the turtles were, was very crowded with 3 other catamarans snorkeling. It was hard not to be kicked by someone's fins or not to kick another person. I would have preferred to change locations after seeing the turtles so it would be less crowded. read more

This crew made our morning of snorkling and sailing seem effortless. They had great snorkling equipment and a smooth operation. I was particularly impressed by the calm, kind, competent way the crew handled a medical emergency on our trip -- they keep the passenger comfortable and arranged for EMS to meet us on the beach. After helping the passenger onshore to medical professionals, they took the rest of us back out sailing -- so lovely and relaxing. Great staff and beautiful boat but the bathroom was disgusting. There were maybe 10 people including us which made it feel like we had a private tour. Sailing out of Waikiki and cruising the waves was my favorite part and worth the trip. Super bummed with the snorkeling. You arrive at turtle cove with a handful of other boats and hoards of people. The water is murky from the boats feeding the fish and most of the turtles are smart and hide from the storm of people. Way overcrowded with people who can't swim. If you go prepared to be kicked with fins lol read more

We saw numerous turtles both in the water and along the surface during our time at Turtle Canyon. While other boats headed back to land, Holokai continued on with a peaceful sail out towards Diamond Head. This was fine - nothing bad, nothing outstanding. After checking in, it was an easy walk to the boat, which is on the older side and a very basic catamaran (which, on the plus side, provides a great view from every seat and allows on/off boarding right on the beach.) The crew's energy was "meh" from the start which was fine. Once at the snorkel spot, we anchored in a line of similar boats from competing providers. After getting in the water, which was also very easy, we had to swim about 100 feet to be above the reef, where we joined the other 150 or so snorkelers from other boats. The long swim to the reef was made longer by the fact that we only realized issues with our gear (leaking snork) once we got to the reef. After unsuccessfully trying to fix it while treading water, the crew in the water told us to swim back to the boat to get a replacement. There was no apologies of "oh shoot! sorry about that!" or "gee, that's a pain" or "let me radio the boat to bring one out to you." -- neither from the crew in the water nor on the boat. Once we finally got back to the reef with replacement gear, we were about half way through the snorkel time. Also, no surprise, it was crazy packed. It was literally impossible to swim; you just kind of treaded water and looked down, and got used to being bumped into, swam over, and occasionally hit with a fin (no one's fault - everyone is looking down, not ahead). That said, we did see lots of cool fish and a turtle. Lastly, two of the crew members were clearly "together" and were hugging in the water, which was really weird and unprofessional, especially when we could have used help getting replacement equipment. The "light snacks" and drinks were as basic as it gets -- two small baskets of random individual portions of chips and popcorn (enough for one, maybe two per person) and the drinks were all things that came in a can, except cups of juice (which I saw was spilled multiple times as there are no cup holders; cans fared much better on the deck than plastic cups.) After this, we did a "sail" which was a slow out-and-back that was fine. They raised the sails but it was not really true 'sailing' in the sporty sense, however to be fair there was not a lot of wind. Not much info from the crew nor whale sitings (they said there had been none for weeks, but people at our hotel had seen some.) I saw some reviews around seasickness: one person got very seasick despite taking Dramamine and it being quite calm. I was worried about a couple members in our group who often get seasick, but they were all fine. IN SUM: The experience for my personal purposes was fine - got out on a boat, snorkeled and saw fish, had some popcorn and a drink in the sun. The crew felt impersonal and unhelpful, and the boat and equipment are in need of upgrades. read more
