We've done many snorkel trips on all of the islands. And the crew on Captain Bob's was by far the most interactive and friendly. Captain Shy, Tyson and the others were the best. They really take an interest in you're having a safe and great time. Volleyball on the sand bar was a first for us and fun. We saw Honu, and lots of fish. I'd definitely recommend these guys for a fun half days trip. Oh!! And the burgers were fantastic!

This is from Captain Bob's picnic sail.

41 people on the boat so not overly loaded. Problem only the captain and 2 crew to help all the passengers. They told us that there was strong tide around the reef. This was not true. I think it was to discourage novice snorkelers from wandering far from the boat. There was no way to quickly get to someone if they were having problems. Lunch was hamburgers and a vegetarian option. I don't recommend this trip even though the crew on board were pleasant. They did say that they were short staffed but that should not affect the cruise for the people who did the picnic sail. Maybe lower the passenger numbers if not adequate crew members.

Fantastic day spent with a great crew! I would do it again! Got to see turtles, Manta rays and a huge variety of other fish species. Crew was super kind and patient and fun! Highly recommend!

We booked a 6 hour experience to the sandbar during our trip to Oahu and had a great time! Pick up and drop off in Waikiki is provided as part of the experience - we had to walk a bit to get to our pick up and drop off location but the bus was new, great AC, comfy seats. Ride to the pier took about 45 min through the mountain, the pier itself and boat weren't anything too impressive but the crew was super friendly and a great time. Lunch was included and it was a burger and some sides - there is a vegetarian option. Sadly the pineapple was not fresh and this was a bit disappointing but food was ok all considering. Alcoholic Drinks are available for purchase $5 each and included beers, hard seltzers and boxed wine. If using a credit card, $20 4 drink minimum purchase. First stop was to the sandbar - crew set up a volleyball net and took pics for everyone. Next we motored our a bit and saw some epic turtles. Then we continued to a reef area for snorkeling - definitely the best snorkeling we've ever done - coral had a ton of tropical fish and turtles. Overall, we were a bit sad the experience didn't include any SUP or kayaking but overall it was a fantastic day trip, great crew and definitely worth the price (we booked directly on the website for $161/pp)

My family recommended this tour to us and I am so grateful they did. The staff treat you like family, the excursion is hands down one of the best you can book. I have zero complaints other than the time flies too fast when you're having fun. Because of the kindness and knowledge and hospitality I'd say book it, enjoy it and TIP the staff. If you do any excursion in Honolulu, this is the one! Shout out to Capt.IGGY TYSON AND THE FIRST Mate!!! Cheeeeeeehooooooooooooo!

My family had a wonderful day out on the Kaneohe Bay with Cpt. Bob's Picnic Sail. The crew were especially awesome. Tyson was the best! I highly recommend this excursion for a fun day out on the sand bar and for awesome snorkeling! My kids are 5&8 and they both loved it. They both also enjoyed the snorkeling and seeing all the amazing fish etc.

    A beautiful day.

Absolutely, an enjoyable tour to take. You will not regret. There are two main activities, 1. Kane'ohe Sandbar, you can walk around in the middle of the ocean. The best place to take pictures. 2. Snorkeling. Having a burger at the middle of the ocean without the boat rocking is the best. I will try this tour again. The staff are very friendly. A great experience for kids also.

    Hanging out at the sandbar.

As first-time snorkelers traveling with a child, our experience did not align with those expectations. Equipment distribution was poorly handled. Masks were handed out with little to no instruction, and basic questions were met with a rude and dismissive attitude. Overall communication and service were lacking. Once in the water, guidance was minimal and inconsistent. The experience felt rushed and disorganized, with limited support for guests who were new to snorkeling. The tone and treatment we received also made us uncomfortable as Asian guests. After sharing feedback, the company clarified in writing that they do NOT advertise or position this as a beginner-friendly snorkeling tour. Based on both that clarification and our experience, I would strongly recommend that beginners or families looking for clear instruction and attentive guidance consider other operators. Sharing this to help future guests set accurate expectations before booking.

I read about the excursions off Waikiki that all but promised seeing Honu. I did some research and chose to book with Captain Max Boat Tours and their Turtle Canyon Snorkel. I read reviews and what really attracted me to this outfitter was the fact they ran semi-private boat tours with only 6 guests. Correspondence (email) leading up to the excursion was clear and helpful. We arrived a few minutes early and visited their small shop while checking in. We waited just a few minutes and then were walked over to their boat dock, meeting both the guide, Sophia and the boat captain, Stephanie. They gave us safety information and prepared us for the short boat ride out to "Turtle Canyon". Our craft was a zodiac type inflatable raft with a mounted seats and a windscreen for the captain. We glided out to the snorkel zone with Waikiki beach before us, a grand ocean view of this famous beach. Sophie helped the other guests get their snorkel gear (included in the price) except for us - we bring our own snorkel equipment. We put in the water and after all guests were in, Sophia called in the direction she was leading us. On the way over we swam through schools of fish. This was an awesome experience we did not expect - we snorkel a lot and love seeing the marine life. We learned that some outfitters feed the fish out here and so they stick around instead of swim away, which we're used to experiencing. In about 20 feet of water our guide pointed out several turtles on the bottom. Lucky for us, one of them swap up for air - and stayed near the and stayed near the surface for quite a few minutes (longer than we usually see) which allowed us to get a great view of this beautiful creature (all the while, maintaining a safe distance to protect the turtle). Sophia led us to two other spots nearby, seeing fish on the reef below and several more turtles. Once again we were fortunate to have another turtle swim up to the surface for a few breaths. I'm very glad we chose Captain Max as some of the other outfitters that bring larger groups would have been a very different experience with a group clamoring for views of the few turtles that were out there. Our guide was knowledgeable, approachable, and friendly - and ensured we were all safe (and the marine life were also protected). On our way back to shore we were treated to another great view of Oahu, with Waikiki and Honolulu in the foreground and the mountains behind. Thanks Sophie and Captain Stephanie for a memorable excursion! NOTE: We know that early in the morning is generally the best time to snorkel as the water tends to be calmer, visibility better and fish ore active. We had a 930 start but next time would be the early time (730) as I learned there are even fewer other outfitters out on the water at that time.

I had the hesitation to book it due to the fact my son is on the spectrum and wasn't sure how he was going to react during the experience. Took the chance and made a reservation through Hawaii Ocean Sports. They took us on a boat to access the beautiful Sandbar. It's nestled in the middle of the ocean 3 miles stretch of sand. Unfortunately, we ended up doing the afternoon tour where high tides took place water level up to our necks. During our ride there, we were served lunch consisting of a turkey sandwich, fruits, and a cookie. Very filling as we were on to our destination while we listened to live music entertaining us along the way. Snacks, towels, drinks, and a bar are available for additional cost. As we approached the Sandbar, we were required to do a brief safety class before heading into the beautiful water. My kids and I were surprised how magnificent the Sandbar was. Definitely a true paradise where our dreams came true. I didn't think I would ever experience this kind of beauty. My son and I were terrified at first as we entered the water, but our life jackets saved us as we were floating. Lots of activities offered which are part of the package including SUP, kayaking, volleyball, snorkeling, or relaxing at the dock while sipping on drinks. We mainly enjoyed ourselves floating in the ocean. The current did get a little rough as it started to pour rain right before heading back to the marina. One advice is to head out early onto the boat before everyone does because the changing and bathrooms can get wet with dirty grounds. Music was blasting with great hits as we ended the day. Made my son and I stand up desiring to dance. Truly this is an unforgettable magical experience. You bet I will make a reservation again when we return to Oahu next year!
