Enjoying the weather and stopped by this tea bar in the area. It was the matcha which got my attention The ambiance is very relaxed and the owners are super friendly. the decor is definitely a place which you can enjoy a couple hours having tea and reading We chose the daily special matcha in a bowl as well as the competition grade matcha in a bowl My knowledge of matcha is very limited but i did enjoy the matcha a lot. They also sell matcha as well as other asian tea at the location as well However, seats are limited and this tea bar is popular. It can be a challenge to get a seat at times read more

What a time to enjoy some straight up matcha. The place is first come first serve. There's a full service bar that meets you as you enter in. The servers are SO knowledgeable and very accommodating. There are SO many teas to choose from. They also have tastings for different matcha varieties. We tried both ice and hot and sampled their kombucha. Overall - great time to get some knowledge in, how to properly prepare matcha, and most of all enjoy it! read more

Truly quality matcha, and a bar-like vibe for tea heads (bc it is a bar, but instead of cocktails they have matcha shots, bowls, teas, and kombucha). Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff in a slow paced easy breathing atmosphere. Cozy spot for a couple pals or solo reading date. Would definitely return. read more

Very cool and chill interior, lots of wood vibes. Matcha was tasty. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is for how slow the service was even though there was only one other customer. One of the workers was preoccupied on the phone the whole time and the others were taking photos with a professional camera. Felt like I was stranded on an island, no one was on hand. read more

Cool tea place where you can try a bunch of interesting teas. I came with a friend to check it out and she left with the tea we ordered. Personally enjoyed wild bush. Nice staff and helpful! Note that none of their teas have milk- it's kind of a specialty tea place. read more

While visiting Vancouver, my husband and I dropped by O5 because I'm always looking for a tea shop to go to. This place is not just a tea shop, it's a tea experience. You sit down at the tea bar, with very knowledgeable servers and get to experience Chinese and Japanese tea the way that it's meant to be made. We had a delicious floral sencha as well as their lavender kombucha, and just sat for hours chatting with our server Rafael he was planning to move to Japan soon to be part of an O5 café there! It's such a peaceful place with many regulars and highly recommended if you want to learn more about tea. read more

Glad to have stumbled into this rather unassuming tea shop. Inside is like a bar, but for brewing tea. Our tea guide, I will call him that because he knows a lot about teas, introduced us to a large variety of teas that were not on the daily specials. He was enthusiastic in telling us about the origins and processes of the different teas. He was super nice in bringing out different teas for us to smell. In the end we walked out with bags of teas and will be coming back for some more when we're back in the city! read more

I love this tea shop. Ive lived in the neighbourhood forever but I only decided to try it recently during the Khatsalano Street Fest. I am not a tea connoisseur but I love kombucha, and I stumbled upon their Dream kombucha, which is a combo of butterfly pea, peppermint, and lavender (very similar to the Tazo Dream tea which I love). Their kombuchas have a sweet undertone of apple flavour, which is probably why I like it. The atmosphere is also very relaxing and low key. Ive come here to chat it up with a friend and on a separate occasion to get some work done. I also love listening to the staff chat with customers about teas and coffee - it shows they really love their craft! All in all, if you're in the neighbourhood, I highly recommend this quiet little tea shop. read more

Came here because reviews online and a friend told me there were tea flights. Not a lot of tea places do this anymore and it's a great way to try different types of tea and then purchase the ones you like the best. I also saw some of the higher end teaware on the site that I was interested in buying before coming. I asked about it when I came in and the person who greeted me told me they don't do tea flights. Then they said they could offer me a tea sample but I was a bit overwhelmed from all of the different types. I stood around a bit feeing awkward and then ended up leaving. Not leaving a bad star review because I didn't actually try anything but still very disappointed. I came all the way from Seattle based on a friend's recommendation but it didn't feel comfortable except for the ghibli music playing. read more

Such a neat place! I recently started getting into kombucha, and saw that this place had some on tap. I had no expectations coming here, but I had an awesome time. There's only a long bar with seating, and luckily there were a couple spots left for us. You could see that everyone was having a good time either sipping teas or watching the tea makers work their magic. We tried a kombucha flight, and wow they were all great! We've actually been making our own kombucha, but I am a sweets fan and we've been adding lots of fruit to make the drink more palatable for me. I wasn't sure how these kombuchas would taste since they sounded more tea forward. Also, hojicha kombucha? I've really only heard of black tea being the base, but I was eager to try. Hojicha kombucha! That was hands down my favorite. Hojicha is roasted green tea. I always get the milk tea whenever available at boba shops. Little did I know that the fermentation process brings out its flavor even more! The other 3 flights were very good as well, but we ended up with a growler of the hojicha. We even returned 2 days later as we left Vancouver to fill the growler up. If you even remotely like tea, definitely make a trip here. It's located on a street filled with lots of other shops and eateries, so you can take a stroll after filling up on tea! read more

I wanted to like this place so much, especially seeing such great reviews from Yelp Elites and I think it is affiliated with Gyo-Para a ramen place up on Arbutus and Broadway which I love so much. I've walked past this place numerous times in the past months - half intimidated to go in, half curious and excited. We decided to mosey on in, and weren't greeted. We didn't know where to sit or how the process went, so I went near the bar and said I had always walked by and been curious but it was our first time! They didn't say much so I asked if we could sit by the window. Someone came by with a tablet saying we'd find all the teas on there. Great? Thanks? No personal touches or insight? After deciding finally on the Workhorse which was a pu-er tea, we were served a beacon of tea in which the tea was served into the tiniest little cups, probably to savour each sip, vs. drinking too quickly! We weren't sure if that was literally all the tea we were getting despite the price being around $10. I realize that they'll basically steep your tea again and again and again until you leave.. though I didn't realize that and thought it maxed out at 3 times or so based on a skim of the reviews. No one decided to tell us the process either until I finally asked after we paid. I'm a bit bummed that so many others had such a great customer service experience but mine was pretty horrible. I felt lost, embarrassed and like I was in a place too pretentious for myself. It was a real disappointment, especially after telling them that I had never been but had always wanted to try it.. read more

I heard about O5 Tea from the Siply app and being a big tea fan, I knew I had to try out this place. There is only one long table at the bar and the person behind the counter was so friendly and welcoming. She explained through all the different flavors of tea and kombucha that was available and what might suit my specific tastes. I ended up trying out the Wuyi Farm Style Tea and the Hojicha kombucha. Both were so refreshing and exactly what I needed for my palate. I'm a big fan and will definitely be back! read more

I hope that 05 Tea can become a more regular part of my routine in the coming new year. I happened by the shop to buy a Christmas present and was completely drawn in by the beautiful wooden bar and tea implements. There were only a few others in the space at the time, and devoted customer turned staff member Wayne generously and enthusiastically guided me through selecting a tea to sit down and sample. The choices are endless, and I finally landed on a lower caffeine pu er called Tea Horse Road. This ain't your typical gulp and run Starbucks kind of outfit, but more akin to wine tasting--come with ample time to sit and savor, if you can. My pu er was portioned out in a small porcelain cup, but had 8 potential flushes (i.e. new water added to the same leaves), creating a different drinking experience each time. The tea was smoky and earthy and truly transported me to the hike in a faraway place that I wish I was on right now. Wayne also offered a sample of one of their house made kombuchas that they have on tap--so much more delicate than the garden variety GT's that you find at the grocery store. They sell it by the glass or you can take away a growler's worth that can be refilled. Apparently they also offer kombucha making classes and other tea-related events throughout the year. I've passed by this place so many times without venturing in, and I'm so happy to know about it now. read more

Last week, I spent my rainy Saturday afternoon here. It was my first tea bar experience and it will definitely not be my last. I was very impressed by the décor of the tea shop, the variety of teas available and the overall experience. There's just something about watching tea being brewed in front of you that makes you feel calm and relaxed. This is also a nice place for you to catch up with a friend, study or do some work. Right now, they have a collaboration w/ @atoigourmetgifts which features 5 tea-infused sweet treats. I highly recommend pairing them with teas. My favourite pairing was the hojicha tea + hojicha dacquoise sandwich w/ hojicha ganache. I should also add that the staff who infused my teas was very knowledgeable and friendly. She even asked if I would like to brew my tea again after I finished my first cup! Yes, they brew your tea several times or until to your liking. I am already planning my next visit. Do note that this is a small tea bar so it might be a little squishy on a busy day. read more

Cute, delicious, experiential. Travel experiences like this, where we were sore from hours of exploring and walking and stumble into a comforting tea room and guided through an impromptu tasting, are exactly what I miss about the world right now. My bff and I were on the hunt for some good tasting Kombucha since Vancouver seemed to have all the cool healthy spots. We found this tea house on yelp and knew we had to stop in. We ordered the Dream, Dragonwell, and Ginger for our flight selection. The Dream was phenomenal! It was brewed with dok anchan (flower), peppermint, and lavender. We both took a cup of the Dream to sip on for our day around the city. We went back that evening to get another cup before heading home to California the next morning. If you ever want to know what inner peace feels like, order The Dream from O5. You'll feel the positive energy coming up from that straw the moment you take a sip. Tonight, I had the most wonderful tea tasting experience at O5. It's one thing to taste great teas, but it sure was an extra treat to have Pedro share his geeky tea knowledge & passion with our group. We sampled their kombucha, matcha & more. Each was unique in its own way - in flavour and in preparation, all the way from hot to cold brews. Everyone had a great time and I can't wait to bring my friends for our own private tasting. The place has a quiet vibe that will allow you to truly enjoy the tea. It's a great spot for a first date (as Pedro recommended!) because it's always fun to try new experiences. One of the best tea shops in Vancouver, if not the world! They have a lot of variety and carefully curated tea flights on their menu. It's a chic, high end kitsilano tea bar and you can tell the owner/operators are very passionate and knowledgeable. I really appreciate how they list the origin of their matcha, unlike another tea vendor in the city, (Whisk Matcha), which lies about where their tea comes from in order to make a quick buck. In summary, I highly recommend o5's Japanese tea selections as well their Kombucha offerings. For matcha lovers, their inhouse ice-milled matcha is a really unique and wonderful must try experience! read more

This is serious tea here. We're talking estate teas from China, Japan, India and Korea(!) where harvest year and tea-making process significantly matters. We're talking ceremonial bowls, handmade tea filters, charcoal logs for boiling water and a rare matcha-grinding machine made by Japanese craftsmen. Everything here is so carefully considered and so precisely utilized. O5 makes David's Tea look like McDonald's. Pedro, who runs the place, is a master of his craft. He is looking for you to have an experience (so plan to stay a little while). He physically goes to the tea farms in Asia where he meets the families and handpicks the teas that he deemed worthy of bringing back. Pedro has visited the farms of over 90% of his selections. It was surprising to hear his last job was as a shampoo advertiser in Hong Kong considering how much knowledge he has of tea. I was expecting to hear about years of service, an apprenticeship, etc. His intense passion for tea along with his sensitive palette is what drives this place, and it results in one of the best high-end tea joints in town. As we don't have a lot of high-end tea joints in Vancouver, we should welcome Pedro's business with open arms. Plus he's looking into getting a liquor license soon, so expect great things still to come! My wife and I tried two Korean teas, a sejak and a balhyocha noeul. The sejak is a fresher tea, with that amazing grassy flavour. The balhyocha is an oxidized tea, which brings about a deeper, more complex flavour. Apples and oranges to me, but both tasted outstanding. These teas are so good you can resteep about 4 times. That's great bang for your buck. I will no doubt be back soon with friends to enjoy more teas. I'm going to call in advance to try out his tea necklace, a 45-minute process that will surely blow my mind! read more

This place is a definite recommend if you are on a date or grabbing a friend to experience something different. The integration of Eastern tea culture into a Western setting is almost flawless. Its thoughtful menu, the very much zen interior design and the tea brewing artistry warrant a higher price tag for tea and for tea tasting for sure. It is a bit too high and can be unreasonable (see previous review by Alan H) thus deters me from returning. Having said that, I appreciate the following: - Brewing tea in the type-appropriate apparatus (i.e. Oolong in a small Chinese clay tea pot, Japanese matcha whisked in a bowl) - Brewing tea in the type-appropriate method (i.e. pour hot water into the clay tea pot until it almost brims the top and then slide down the pot cover) - The tea selection - Cool coaster - A calendar of tea sessions In terms of areas for improvement, I understand the founder plunges deep into the tea universe but his expertise didn't seem to permeate among the staff. Furthermore, the quality of the tea also didn't bring sparkles to my eyes either, as it seemed not much different from David's Tea and Teavana's selections. This further echos my earlier quibble on its high price tag, but now highlighting the merit of its leaves. I mean, if you are a tea newbie and want to really sample various tea for fun, grab a few tins from Chinatown's tea stores and do it yourself at home. For a budget of $30 , your tea stash would last you few weeks. read more

O5 has come a long way over the years, and I'm glad this place is still around. I recently took my dad and his business partner here for late-night tea (did not expect them to be busy at 9:15pm on a Saturday, but they had nearly a full bar, with some people doing homework on laptops, others drawing, and others just talking). Was a really cool vibe, and they've gotten rid of the awkward small tables and elevated the bar height for more comfortable seating. Our tea servers were knowledgeable and answered our questions with patience and knowledge. It's really cool that they know so much about their teas. My dad and his business partner are tea fanatics and they also approved of the place, although the quality of some of the teas was not up to what they are used to drinking normally (I couldn't tell personally). But they were very impressed with the decor, the ceremony of brewing and serving tea, and the overall experience. Prices are actually beyond reasonable. I think we averaged about $10 a person for some excellent teas that you would not find easily at most other cafes. Was fun! Come for some chill vibes - is kind of like going to a bar but with wholesome tea and good lighting instead of alcohol and loud music. Speaking of which, they have definitely improved their music selection! Funky instrumental music was playing while we were there, which totally fit the vibe of the shop and the tea drinking experience. Will be back! read more

**3.5 stars** A very interesting location choice situated a couple doors down from another tea place (David's Tea). However, this is definitely serving a niche market of tea connoisseurs and aficionados. Unfortunately the owner Pedro wasn't in town during my visit, but I find it interesting that he purveys products by tea farmers he's physically visited. The decor is elegant and calming. However, like previous visitors, I would have also liked to have seen more comfortable seating to enjoy the tea rather than a steel stool. I walked in during their Black Friday sale and they had a special: half off tea flights so I got to try 3 different types of tea for $6. The prep of the tea is very traditional and I was truly fascinated with the way the tea was being steeped. I conversed with the staff about the tea and how it is prepared and he confessed that he doesn't have all the answers and that Pedro was the real "tea" guy. Although I could tell he was really passionate about tea, it kinda made me second guess everything he said after making that statement. Seems like this place could use staff that are not only passionate but also have formal training in teas. Pedro can't be around ALL the time after all. The tea selection isn't as broad given Pedro has so far insisted on visiting all the farms he gets the tea from, there is a good selection from Japan, Yunnan, and Korea. I didn't eat the tapas but I did grab some of the darjeeling caramels to go. They were very sweet and tasty with a light infusion of darjeeling flavour. I also noticed that they grind their own matcha here. Tres cool. This place has great potential to dual as a private event space given that it is naturally open late and tea cocktails could easily be something they could pull off. I'd love it if they offered tea workshops or tea & chocolate pairing events. I attended one of these back in Ontario and thought it was the coolest thing. Overall, the tea is very high quality and you'd definitely be served by passionate staff who know how to classically prepare a good cup of tea. Sometimes there is something to be said and appreciated in the simplicity of a cup of tea teeming with earthy aromas and untainted by milk and sugar. read more

I am a huge lover of tea. Seeing a tea bar-type of establishment makes me incredibly happy! I have never seen anything like O5 down in the USA yet, but this place is freaking awesome. It is a little bit pricey, but the quality of tea and the experience is totally worth it. When my cousin first introduced me to O5 tea, I thought it would be just another Teavana of some sorts. But, O5 Tea is so much more than that. They have teas for purchase, as well as, a tea bar where you can order off a menu. There seems to be a lot of kombucha on tap as well. When I experience something new, I like trying everything. A tea flight was definitely the way to go for me. When I went, O5 Tea had a flight of cold-brew Japanese teas available for about $7. This came with 5 different Japanese teas in a shot glass. Vancouver was quite hot the weekend that I went, so the cold-brew teas were very refreshing. All of the teas were very aromatic and smooth tasting. None of the teas were bitter. And they seemed to be brewed very well. A nice part of the flight tasting experience is that your $7 can go towards the purchase of one of these teas. If I lived in Vancouver, I would definitely be visiting this shop a lot. This place is super serene and zen. The atmosphere is awesome, and the people who work the tea bar are awesome as well. This place will definitely fulfill any cravings you have for tea. read more

However when I noticed the large selection of matcha on the menu, I decided to give one a try. The young lady who was working there at the time was so helpful in teaching us about Japanese culture and the teas they had to offer. We spent most of our time there chatting with her because she had so much knowledge to share with us! She even gave us constant mini refills of a tea she was drinking, at no charge at all. Unfortunately we found out she was leaving a few weeks later to continue her studies in eastern Canada, so we cannot go back and enjoy her company again. However I would go back regardless to try more teas on the menu. What a great experience and unique atmosphere! read more
