This place was reviewed by a contributing writer to Conde Nast as one of the 100 best pizzas in the country, only rivaled in ATL by Antico. So naturally, we had to go visit.
This is the entire story. If you want to get to the fast review, scroll to the end.
The place looks a little different than pictures, it looks a little like a hole in the wall kind of thing, but that did not deter us from our task, so it was my wife and ten-year-old twins, hungry for pizza, we were greeted by a nice young woman who took our drink orders and diligently brought them back, then we asked questions and she proceeded to explain the menu as there are different types of pizza pies, from their own creations to deep dish, Detroit style, and others. I asked what was the house specialty and she pointed to the grandma (which is a 16" square, thin crust). Everything was going well, when we placed our order the time was 7:05 PM, being a Tuesday, it was a slow day so I thought it would come out fast, and I asked to what she replied, it would only be 20 minutes max.
She came around 7:20 to ask if we were doing ok and "how was everything?" which was odd because we had nothing. The same scene repeated itself by 7:32, and again at 7:40.
How can this be past 40 minutes??? It's only pizza! I called her and asked what was happening, she said the next pizza out was ours. Lies, three tables more were served after that. At the 50 minute marker, I told her to give me the check as I needed to leave, and what do you know? Suddenly our pizza arrived.
The overall impression is that it was probably forgotten in the oven as one corner of it was so toasted it was hard to eat, my kids were not happy with it and frankly neither was I. Manager approached us and offered a 15% discount for our troubles. I told her it was not about the money, as this amounts to only $4 and change in our bill, it's the entire experience that was shot.
To the reviewer in Condé Nast, there are far better pizza places in North Fulton, Antico, Campania, Napoli One, Santino's, take your pick, I think you completely missed the mark on this one.
Quick review:
Horrible service, slow and patchy, unnecessarily so because everything is already set, nothing is custom. It is pricey for what it is and ultimately it's just not a good pizza pie. read more
