This review is long overdue.
My husband and I spent three months in Rome [Jan - Mar 2016], in the Pigento neighborhood. Because we were staying for such a good length of time we were eager to try all the local gems. We found O'vino - which at that point had only been open for 2 weeks. We stopped in to an empty restaurant - aside from one other table. Over the next couple of hours, we enjoyed what was to be one of best dining experiences during our stay in Italy. The chef has put together a beautiful and rustic menu with a focus on Roman peasant food. The food is simple but unique - we enjoyed delicacies from the quinto quarto ["fifth quarter" of the animal]: tongue, tripe, and typical dish called pajata. Dishes you won't find on many other menus within the city.
And the dessert. One in particular. The licorice meringue. This dessert is unlike anything I've had. Ever. And I'd die to have it again [not literally, but it's that good!]. It's light. Flavorful. Intriguing. I won't try to explain as I'd never do it justice. It's not always available, so if you're fortunate to be there when it's in-house: get it!
We ended up going to O'vino three times over our three months. From service to food to ambiance - everything is what it should be. And I'm glad to have seen the restaurant succeed over our time there; by the end of our stay they had grown a following and were always busy [fortunately, we're American and eat WAY earlier than the Romans!]. I would have been happy to pay more than we did, but I'm glad they have decided to keep it affordable.
O'vino is part of what made our extended stay in Rome truly remarkable - grazie mille!! read more
