One star is too much. Rick and his son are the most incapable plumbers I have ever worked with. I have worked with plumbers for 40 years as a general contractor and his Son totally screwed up the new valve in the shower. When Rick came to see the unacceptable work he actually told me he would see me in court. He was way over priced and did not Guarantee his work. Charged $1500 for an $800 job. his son only worked about 6 hours. He was over the top rude. Go with Lake Arrowhead Plumbing. They are kind and through. What a 100% JERK. I called them due to toilet flooded issue, they tried to drain the pipe from one toilet and not successful. (initial charge $795 for inspection and weekend service fee)...then, they said have to dig a hole from outside to replace a pipe section that was stuck with tree...$4500 was charged. Then was told, another section of pipe has something stuck when they use machine to view, say will be more expensive..so I told them to stop the work. Called another plumber from San Bernardino. Replace another section of drain pipe for $2800...was told they don't know the cost until they found out what is going on!! So be aware and cautious for those won't disclosure their fee when you ask upfront. Lesson learned!! O'Brian Drain Aid Plumbing are the absolute best plumbing company! I got a quote to snake a line and video the pipe (work demanded by LACSD) and O'Brian's stuck with their quoted price even though the lateral line ended up being 180 feet and they needed commercial equipment rather than residential, which they initially brought. I had called several local plumbers before scheduling O'Brian's and their quoted price was the best, and then they went above and beyond! Amazing company! Very honest! We were very lucky to have a plumber come out the same day as our appliance delivery! Unexpectedly, our delivery couldn't install the stove due to gas line liability issues (inlet is via cabinet versus available on wall). Contacted O'Brien in the morning and they scheduled to come within 3 hours. Fantastic service and they helped cleaned the area and explained how our "fancy" stove worked after install was done. Quoted us 5X another reputable plumber quoted us and for work we did not need. Our experience with O'Brien Plumbing was dishonesty at it's worst. The plumber and his assistant arrived to diagnose the problem. They spent no more than 10 minutes onsite and suggested a fix the was very involved. We did not trust that 10 minutes was sufficient to determine the root cause of our problem and followed up with a different plumber here on the mountain. It turned out, with a little work, that the issue was contained and did not need the multi-thousand-dollar solution quoted by the O'Brien plumbing team. We went with the other plumber and could not be happier. Be sure to shop around and get multiple quotes. And most importantly, trust your instincts when it comes to someone trying to rip you off. read more

Seems these two high quality employees are no longer around...and with them went.this company's service. I never used these guys, since they quoted me a price more than double their competitor's. But that's not the reason for a 3 star review. The issue was that even though I didn't ask this, the person I spoke to, told me they're "the only one on the mountain with a sewer camera". Why make such a claim that's simply not true? When I called back to cancel the appointment and inform them they're not the only ones with the camera, this person ignorantly commented with "yes I know... that's cool (to cancel)" and got off the phone really quickly (which worked great for me too). Have used O'brien Plumbing twice now. First time for a frozen/broken pipe and second time for service on a water heater. Both times they were professional, pleasant and very helpful. A good honest plumber. When I initially called in the evening I was told about the after hours fee and if I wanted to wait I could just do the regular service call charge for next day. Needless to say it wasn't an emergency, so that was great. They showed up bright and early to get our toilet unclogged during regular business hours. They were quick, professional, and prices were very reasonable. Hopefully we don't have to call them back anytime soon, but it's nice to know if we are ever in need we have a great plumbing service in the area. read more

These guys came out and checked my water line for a leak and told me I needed an entire new water main line from the street 2600 bucks I asked if it could be a bad shut off valve and a leaky toilet. Told those valves don't leak. I personally drove 2 hours to check for my self and it was what I thought. Cost me 26 bucks at the hardware store and an hour of labor. These guys though I've heard good things about sure screwed up this trouble shooting. Check the basics boys! read more

I called O'Brien with an emergency plumbing issue and the woman who answered the phone told me I'd have to wait a week to have someone come out. When I told her it was urgent, and I asked if she could refer me, she treated me like I am an idiot. If O'Brien's plumbers are so booked, maybe they should hire more. Better yet -- replace the person answering the phone. In this small town, companies often make referrals. It's Lake Arrowhead, not Wall Street where businesses feel like they have to eat their competitors for lunch. O'Brien was first recommended to us by neighbors, and over the past ten years we've had good experiences. But today, in an emergency, O'Brien phone receptionist decides she's gonna put me in my place... This is no way to treat a longtime customer. O'Brien's service stinks! read more

I have used O'Briens in the past. Field Service rep was polite and on time. But they are relatively expensive. It has been years since my last service call with them. Called to have a top of the line disposal installed in the kitchen. $200. A little pricey. After the work was completed, I paid and received the receipt. On it was the work warranty. FYI: O'Briens only guarantees their work on owner supplied equipment (including new in the box) for 30 days. Forty-five days afterward, the disposal began vibrating. A couple more weeks and the cabinet door vibrated when the disposal was in use. O'Briens wants another $100 to come out for a follow up service call. FINISHED WITH O'BRIENS. $300 to correctly install a disposal! Not from me. read more

O'Brien Plumbing saved our weekend, and our plumbing! We had a serious sewer backup occur on Saturday morning in our home at Lake Arrowhead. Called at least 7 different plumbing services leaving messages on their voice mails. Called O'Brien on the recommendation of two different people. Actually talked to a person!! She said the plumber was on a call, but he would head over as soon as he was done. Within 30 minutes Jason arrived. He had located the clean out and was ready to open it up by the time I got downstairs to answer the door. He snaked out several chunks of tree roots which had blocked our sewer line, solving our immediate problem - a houseful of guests needing to use the facilities. Yay! Jason was friendly, professional, explained the problem to me, my hard-of-hearing father and everyone else that asked about the problem (we are a nosy bunch!) He was respectful and informational to all of us. He suggested sending down a camera (later in the week at regular pricing), identifying what might need replacing and recommending a solution to keep the problem from happening in the future. We are setting a follow up appointment. O'Brien could have charged us an arm and a leg as it was a Saturday and no one else was responding. They did not. I had O'Brien come out today to fix a couple leaking faucets. They fixed everything within 20 minutes and didn't charge me a thing. They recommended I replace some plumbing hardware in several sinks, which they said they would charge only $250 for. They said my return business on the new hardware would be enough. I used these guys years ago, and they were great. This time, they sent out two young men. They told me that their snake wouldn't fit down a two inch clear out pipe. I didn't feel like arguing, letting them know that the previous time they had been out, that was exactly what they did, and for $100 less than what they quoted me. Next they proceed to tell me that they need to pull off the toilet, to get to the clog from there, looking under the house to confirm it. Then quoting me two, and a half times more money to do it than the clean out. I pulled off the toilet today, and the pipe goes the opposite direction from where the clog is, but I ran a 25' snake just to see. Clear as a whistle. I ran the 25' snake down the clean out pipe, and was able to get a bunch of hair, but I need a longer snake to get at it. Sad to leave this review, seeing how nice the first fellow was, but things change. This time for the worst. read more

Absolutely disappointed in O'Brien's second and last service call which caused much anxiety and alarm. We asked them to fix leaky, kitchen sink. O'Brien plumber came and simply turned off water to the sink, citing, he, "couldn't fix leak until the water seepage into the laminate flooring's underlayment was first taken care of." He gave us number of person to call to help with that issue. We called that referral who came out to give us an estimate of $ 3,500.00 just to demolish the floor so that the area underneath could be aired out to prevent mold and mildew. Warning! Never act upon the scare tactic of, " Mold! Mildew!" without further investigation! Thankfully, I waited out the storm of sticker shock and was rewarded with today's reputable plumber, recommended by our Realtor, who came out and fixed the kitchen sink problem (leak was in the faucet which a three minute investigation revealed) and to the tune of only $97.00. Today's seasoned plumber, whom we will use from from here on out, was mystified as to why the plumber from O'Brien's could not fix the leaky faucet before the damp underlayment of the flooring was tended to. At the end of the day, I believe that the plumber from O'Brien's acted unethically. (Could he have been getting kick back from Jim - the demo man - who suggested more than once that I get my home insurance to pay the proposed $ 3,500.00 demo bill?) We're new to the area and found O'Brien Plumbing in the phone book to handle an emergency situation - backed up toilet - on a Sunday evening a few months back; handled just fine, albeit expensively because of their flat rate system. Regular-kind-of-folk, home owners like me, "Beware!" Always go with a plumber who charges time and materials and not flat rate! Lessons learned? Aways use a professional recommended by a reputable source! Always trust your instincts and get second opinions when you sense something is off or is less than honest advice! read more
