He got lost, although he lives on the mountain, was routinely rude to my mom on the phone and in person once he arrived. She's trying her best, and address shows correctly with exact accuracy on Google Maps. He spoke very kindly with me and then was very condescending to my mom. Therefore I cancelled him immediately and she broke down in TEARS to me after he left, talking about how he made her feel belittled and reprimanded her that she "needs to learn how to give directions". Maybe he needs to learn how to use Google instead! Maybe he needs a lesson in patience and understanding.... in common decency, respect and basic customer service. read more

Fantastic job! I had an issue with an outdoor faucet that leaked into my office whenever your turned it on. Jim came out and diagnosed the issue to a burst pipe. I neglected to disconnect the hose during winter... ;-( Within 45 minutes to issue was fixed and no more water leaking into my office. Good job Jim!!!! read more

As new homeowner's in the beautiful mountain town of Lake Arrowhead, we are just beginning to find and use the local tradesmen for house upgrades and routine maintenance. So far, the experience has been mostly good. There have been a couple of times when I felt like we were paying an unspoken "initiation fee" for being two senior citizens new in the community. That is why I rely on Yelp's helpful reviews. It is really great to find a solid tradesman or company to rely on down the road. Jim Hilman is the "best-of-the-best!" I was concerned about our old 2003 water heater, located way down in a buildup area under the house. Not being full time residents, a failed 50 gallon tank would really be a mess. Jim came out in the pouring rain last February, gave us a detailed estimate, and showed us pictures of his work. He was very booked at the time, so we put off the install. I called him last week and he re-arranged his schedule to make time for us. Let me just say, the man is an artist! He arrived on time and prepared! I took note of his well stocked truck and got a chuckle out of his tool carrier, every screwdriver perfectly lined up! The old and new tanks had to be moved down some steep steps, which Jim handled himself, seemingly with ease. And, of course my wife was concerned about tank leakage on her white carpet. Jim had several plastic tarps on hand to solve that potential problem. The actual install was uneventful for us as homeowners while Jim did his magic under the house. When the job was complete, Jim gave me drainage and operation instructions for the new heater and made me aware of all its features. All in all, it was a painless experience and was well worth the money. And, Jim's price was comparable to what we paid for a new heater in Orange County last year. And did I mention that Jim is probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet? I am proud to add my 5-Star review to Hilman's long list of happy customers! read more

This is an opportunity that I didn't want to miss--sharing my experience of hiring the fabulous Jim Hilman to repair my Rinnai heater. I'll spare you the long story that started with the diagnostic stage of the issue(s) leading up to present day, as it had to be seen to be believed. I'll start by saying that Mr. Hilman is a master of his craft of the state of the art of all things Rinnai...it was enlightening for me to witness his deductive reasoning behind the need for various part replacements. He explained everything so professionally and thoroughly, giving me a clear understanding of how I was about to invest my repair costs without confusion. When I tell you that (ultimately) my small scale eighteen year old Rinnai had met it's demise--even after it had been effectively rebuilt-- I'm still glad that Jim was willing to do all that he could to make work before I had to make the decision to replace the unit. I witnessed such patience from Jim throughout such an enigmatic series of error codes thrown by my old Rinnai ...we had to laugh to keep from letting it get the best of us at one point; it seemed like it took on a life of it's own... Once the decision was made to replace it with a better and much more efficient sized Rinnai heater for the size of my home, Jim did the job perfectly! His labor costs were reasonable and the price of the replacement unit was more than fair market value...I'm sold on the Rinnai heater AND Jim Hilman! Both are state of the art... After realizing that I had a frozen pipe at my house, I had the pleasure of speaking with Jim. Upon telling me about how backed up he was with appointments for the same problem, he proceeded to walk me through a few ideas to help possibly solve the problem. Unfortunately it did require an appointment, which Jim was exactly on time for, and found the issue after some digging. Jim also suggested some preventative measures, and was very thorough in his inspection. I honestly can't recommend Hilman's highly enough, competitive prices, prompt service, and Jim is just a flat out, super nice guy. I had just purchased a foreclosed home. We knew there was a leak in the wall somewhere as it was coming down into the basement.I had a home warranty & the insurance company wanted to send someone from "down the hill" to fix it. After learning that it would take them at least a week to get up the mountain to simply give it a look, we asked Mr. Hilman to help us out. He was in the home a day after we requested his services, and found several issues within the walls and submitted a very very reasonable quote. We agreed to the scope of the work he set a date, went in, completed the work and stayed perfectly on budget (even though he found & fixed some extra items - faulty wax seal on toilet & kitchen leak). This house in the mountains had never had a main shut-off installed nor did it have a drain valve or a properly functioning TPR valve. All bathrooms had leaks of some form or another as did the kitchen. He worked with our schedule & even helped me field calls and explain to the insurance company the specifics of the job.He was very professional and explained to me what and why each joy was being done. He is amazing to work with and as honest as the day is long. I would recommend his company to anyone looking for an awesome plumber. read more

We have used Jim Hilman exclusively since he moved here from Canada. He is prompt, reliable, and honest. With his experience in Canada you can't find a more informed expert when it comes to winterizing your home. Today Jim came out to fix numerous fractures in the plastic drain lines. These cracks were the result of some shoddy work another plumber in Crestline did for us ten years ago. As an added note you should understand that Hilman's Plumbing does not hire a bunch of wannabe plumbers to cover his calls. When you call Hilman's Plumbing you will get a real plumber, Jim Hilman, himself. I got a notice from the Lake Arrowhead water district that my water meter was moving and no one was home. I checked around the house and found my water heater in the buildup area leaking from the top. I called Jim and told him I needed a 50 gallon water heater replacement. He moved a couple of appointments around so he could come over on a Saturday morning. He showed up on time and assessed the problem, only to find out that the 50 gallon water heater would not fit through the access door. He left and came back with a 40 gallon that would fit. The uninstall and re-install proved to be extremely difficult due to the small space and galvanized pipe. He did a wonderful, clean, and professional job. Thanks Jim!!!!!! read more

Two months of waiting and I called him to find out that the part had come in the week before but he hadn't bothered to let me know. It took him less than 10 minutes to replace the part. Jim was so accommodating of my very limited schedule - he shuffled his schedule around in order to come out to the house when I could be there. He is very knowledgeable of the Rinnai wall heaters - he gave me a tip of how to adjust the wooden decorator cabinet surrounding the heater in order to maximize the air flow.
