We used Thrifty to assess am issue with our heater blowing cold air. It was the beginning of winter, so they were understandably very busy. We were told we'd have to wait three weeks, but that was better than other places quoted. We have a fireplace, and it was beginning of November, were fine until then. The very nice scheduler said they'd put us on a list in case there was a chance to fit us in sooner. Luckily just that thing happened two weeks out. The repair man showed up on time, and was very clean, friendly, and professional. He asked thorough questions and assess the situation fully. He finds have time us we needed a new heater, but he was very honest. He did a couple of tests to be sure and found that we only needed a new thermostat. He answered all of our questions in detail and in ways that we could understand. He offered to install thermostat for free if we ordered through him. Otherwise, he said it was so very simple to do we can do ourselves, and he even showed us how and sent us detailed explanation on how to do it with one we would go buy ourselves. He offered advice on thermostat types and brands. Definitely will use again! read more

Had a horrible experience with this company. Was grossly overcharged by the plumber that showed up. When I called to dispute charges with manger or owner I was told they would touch base with worker and get right back to me. Never heard back left a couple messages. Then noticed the check had been cashed. Never to hear from them again. Definitely a swindlers way of handling business. I would never recommend this company for any repairs or services. There are plenty of other options. The only reason I gave Thrifty 4 stars instead of 5 is because it pains me to pay as much as I did for about an hour's worth of work to snake a drain. My mother told me I should become a plumber, but I didn't listen - oh foolish me! I'd be driving a Tesla today instead of a Ford Pinto. OK OK here we are on yelp with another five star review but I promise you I'm not a cousin of the owner just a customer with a troubled cabin that needed someone with the kind of experience these guys have. First of all my place is nearly 100 years old so shifts in the foundation and the flooring can be a little scary sometimes. So I bring in professionals to help me in case there's something that I'm not seeing. Sure enough they diagnosed my issues with the toilet, sewer and some additions I needed to do in the basement. They stuck with their estimate and even did some additional work as things went a little smoother than anticipated. Called me again midday on original scheduled service date and said they'd be able to fit me back in if I was still available. Plumber was professional and knowledgeable. Replaced original gas shutoff for oven and put new shutoff valve on line feeding hot water heater. JUSTIN is THE MAN!. He installed a wall-mount toilet in my 60's cabin. He single-handidly carried a 70 lb toilet bowl up to my 2nd floor bathroom and replaced a 60's wall mount toilet with a new one! The old one could barely flush anything more than urine....if you know what I mean! Even though there were challenges with old wall bracket, Justin used his 19 years experience to make it work! My water heater in my new home stopped working, so I called Thrifty Plumbing on Monday morning to set up an appointment. I explained over the phone that I was out of the area for the entire week until early Friday afternoon, so the only time I was available was after 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The receptionist, Valerie, scheduled me for an appointment on Friday from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. I also had several questions for her which she replied, "I'm not a plumber, so I don't know," but told me she would have the plumber call me by Thursday to answer any questions I had. The plumber never called, but on Thursday morning, I received a voicemail from Valerie, stating my appointment had been rescheduled for Friday morning from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., for which I had specifically stated I would be unavailable. I called back and explained I would not be able to switch my original appointment. Valerie told me she would call the plumber to see what she could do and would "call back in 10 minutes." She never did. I'm now scrambling to find someone to fix my broken water heater. I don't know if Thrifty is going to send a plumber between 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Friday, but if they do, the property's entirely locked up and no one will be in town to receive them. With all the rave reviews for this company, I had high hopes for my own experiences. However, I'm unimpressed and highly dissatisfied with their lack of professionalism and service, and sadly, no closer to getting hot water for the upcoming weekend in the new home. read more

Had similar work done off the mountain for far less money which is why I knock a star off...pricing is not very good. But trades in the mountains tend to be unreliable and these are people are not. We have had water pressure issues ever since we bought our home in Arrowhead last summer. After dealing with a number of plumbers trying to fix the issue (including getting some unnecessary work done that fixed nothing), we were told we needed a new main line and a pump which was looking to be an expensive fix. On someone's rec we called Thrifty, who after initial check sent us Justin. After hours of testing, Justin located the problem, and it turned out to be some old valve buried 3' deep outside the house that was restricting water flow. After Justin removed it and did whatever else magic he did, we got our water flow back to normal, at a fraction of price of replacing the main line. And needless to say replacing the main probably wouldn't even fix our issue, and would be a tremendous waste of money. I am never calling any other plumber again! read more

It seems they only do work that is "routine". They were not able to fix a more complicated situation I had. So I called another plumber who fixed it without blinking an eye. Thrifty plumber also work on commission, so they hike up charges. A $5 part will cost you $30 if they provide it. Avoid if you have another option. read more

Goodwill continues into the new year with this company! Justin literally saved the day! Unbeknownst to me, the water was shut off at my complex for repairs. I had several very important meetings down the hill that day, and knew I was already cutting it close time wise. I stepped into the shower...NO WATER! I panicked and went looking for the culprit. I found Justin climbing out of the back of his plumbing truck and let him have it. "Did you turn the water off? I wasn't notified!" It didn't take Justin long to figure out he was dealing with a woman in a crisis - I was holding back the tears. I started pleading with him. "PLEASE, can you turn it back on? I ONLY need it for 10 minutes! I HAVE TO take a shower! I wasn't notified!" I stammered on. He calmly explained to me that the HOA had sent out a written notification, and that there was no way he could get the water back on for at least an hour, as he had just cut a bunch of pipes. I'm sure I had the "deer in the headlights" look on my face. Justin surmised I was in a quandary and took pity on me. He even told me if it was THAT important I could take a shower at his house. Who does that??!! As I continued to hyperventilate and drone on about not being notified, he made no promises, but said he would see what he could do. Within about 20 minutes he had the water back on for me. I rushed to take a quick shower so he could turn it back off and get on with his repairs, but when I left for my appointments, his truck was gone. He didn't even do the repairs that day. He must have rearranged his whole schedule just so I could take a shower! Thanks Justin! You helped restore my faith that there's still some "good guys" out there! read more

Thrifty Plumbing and heating, does a bait and switch, they tell you one thing over the phone and then sends you a docu sign for another date. They don't show up the day they verbally told me on the phone. Don't do their docu sign it's their way to keep you obligated to them. Awful customer service. Will never use them again. read more

These guys are outstanding. I had a wet spot in my house that I could not identify the source of. Dave thoughtfully walked be through what the issues could be and showed me how to identify what the source of the spot was. Turned out it was outside snow melt getting in through a footing wall. Dave could have easily charged me for the leak detection equipment we had scheduled to use, but he was honest and showed me that we didn't need to use it. Please read to the end of the review, we hope it will be worth your time. We've had several plumbing issues at our Lake Arrowhead home. When we experienced issues initially in the kitchen, we had 2 different plumbers advise that they had resolved the issue, when in fact neither did. We finally called Thrifty, who resolved the problem. Shortly thereafter, we had a leaking pipe in the water heater, which Thrifty repaired. During that process however, my partner damaged a part of the water heater in his anxiety to shut off the water, which wasn't noticeable initially...but caused us to smell gas afterward. Gas company came in and shut off the gas. We called Thrifty, who came out and had to tell us that it was not a repairable item and the entire water heater needed to be replaced. Sad days. Thrifty returned the next day with a water heater, and we had hot water for about 15 minutes. Fortunately, Thrifty had stayed to test it out further, knowing that we had already been inconvenienced by the previous repair. In the testing, they noticed that the water didn't stay hot, and did further investigation. Long story made a little shorter. They replaced the water heater again the next day. For a total of 2 water heaters and one regulator in 1 day from the same manufacturer. They finally ditched that manufacturer altogether, brought in a 3rd water heater, and we now have hot water! Even better news was that it was at no additional expense to us. We are so very grateful that Thrifty saw this problem through to the end; we'll never try another plumber up the hill, their integrity will hold us as loyal customers for as long as we are here. read more

Felt Hustled. Never again. Andrew baited me into either paying him $150.00 service call, (which I wasn't told about), if I didn't have him perform the work, so I let him "dig" for $225.00 , he dug 3", at most. He wrote on the order form " dig and find leak, $225.00" I had already dug and found the leak myself, I pointed out where it was to him but he charged me anyway. Then he said to actually fix it it would be an additional $365.00, after that he said there was a second leak, that I never saw, and charged me an additional $125.00 I have a family with small kids and needed this repair done pretty desperately, so In my moment of weakness he begins to tell me how much extra work he actually did and how he's going into overtime and not going to charge me for it but don't tell anyone so he doesn't get in trouble.... well he started harping on how people should "Tip" and fix so much that I felt I should give him a tip. Not only did I give him a bucket of old plumbing fittings I had laying around (which he will probably use on your house) about $90.00 worth- I also have him a "TIP" in the form of a check for $100.00 After sleeping on this experience, we contacted the owner, he expressed concern as he said the "TIP" should have never been asked for or taken. Also he said he noticed the bucket of old fittings in the van and Andrew should not have accepted them. He then said he would get back to us with some sort of resolve, we expected some money back as well as the $100.00 "TIP" because it sounded like that's where he was heading. Well, 2 weeks later, all checks paid to them including the $100.00 tip have been cashed, owner does not return our phone calls or emails. This was a very bad, unprofessional experience and I had to share to potentially keep others from being taken advantage of like this. Small family here with limited funds and they care not about any of it. Very disappointed with them, I DO NOT recommend them, go with just about anyone else: O'Brien Plumbing, Acosta or any other locals just NOT thrifty. Contact me if you'd like me to elaborate further.
