I went to this salon in Mesa years ago, and had a good experience. In searching for a new salon I found they relocated to PHX. After reading some of the reviews that weren't so pleasant. I figured I reach out to see if the new location required an appointment and confirm pricing since the last one accepted walk ins and the website isn't clear on a price list, not to mention recent reviews complain about being overcharged. I was told walk in or appt, either or is ok. Then was asked when I wanted to come in, I said tomorrow morning for myself and daughter. I wasnt given pricing but was asked to make a deposit for the appointment. Why if you accept walk-ins ? Their response was I only accept walk ins today not tomorrow. If you don't get tf out of here! I was refused service I called and asked if there was any availability for a men's haircut walk in. "Yes, we're actually really slow." I am male but I wear effeminate clothing. When I showed up there were three workers and no clients and it was nowhere near lunch or closing time. They told me they couldn't cut my hair because they don't have clippers. I explained that I didn't want my sides cut and I was looking for an effeminate woman's style hair style and wouldn't need clippers. 03 July 20 Yesterday Friday morning I came to NYC Beauty Salon LLC to finally get a new look. I requested a wash set/rollers with blowout and hair cut services. The washset lady (sorry I never got her name) did a great job! Loved the scalp massage. Stephanie hands down did an amazing job! After she blow dried my hair and flat ironed my hair. I requested a bob cut with an even cut all around. Stephanie exceeded my expectations and I am so happy with the new look. I work in the military service and with long hair I'm constantly having to have my hair slicked back in a bun. I have tight curls and used to get Keratin treatments all the time back when I was home in Queens NY. It's been 2 yrs since I've done anything to my hair and I wanted to leave my hair chemical free. Stephanie said I didn't need Keratin Treatments and she was right my hair looks so healthy again and I just love the style cut she did to my hair. The receptionist was very professional and helpful. I have been coming here for a solid two years now. Everytime Im in Arizona this is my go to spot to get my hair done. This is the only spot I trust with when it comes to doing my hair. I'm from the east coast , so when I come here it feels like home and I know I can trust them. It is a little bit more pricey for what I typically pay for a Dominican blowout out back home. They have charged me $60 everytime and I typically pay $30 back home. I will tell you I dont mind paying the $60 because it's all worth it and I did notice my hair does last a lot longer then usual whenever I come here. It feels a lot healthier and has a lot shine to it and has a lot of volume! read more

I recently relocated to the Phoenix area and was referred To NYC beauty salon by a new coworker. I was ecstatic to call and find out that they take walk-ins and I could get in the same day. I am Half African-American and half Dominican. I have 4B/4C, shoulder length, thick hair. I know I have a lot of hair so I have become accustomed to tipping extremely well and I'm also understanding if there is an up charge because my hair is so thick. However, the stylist that Started out doing my hair (who I come to later find out is the owners daughter) Made several references about the thickness and length of my hair and it was clear that she really didn't want to do it. After she rinsed the deep conditioner out, she put me back under the dryer without any detangling or adding a drop of product so that it could "air dry a bit". My hair was became dry and tangled. After getting me out of the dryer and starting the process of blowing my hair out, she did not part it into sections to give her better manageability and Instead of using a round brush she used a rat tail comb. She got maybe 1/4 of the way and then passed me over to the other stylist (her mother) who did an okay job although I've had sleeker blowouts with fewer flat iron passes. The lack of professionalism and subpar service is not the reason for my review. My review is based on the outlandish pricing structure. I looked at the pricing on their website and it's no where near what I was charged. The blowout was $80, deep conditioner $25 , flat iron $24 ... never have I ever paid for a blowout and been charged an additional fee for flat ironing. If there was an up charge for thickness and length that should have been relayed and I would have understood. But to receive subpar service and have a blowout priced a la carte is ridiculous. read more

I am originally from New York. The Bronx to be exact and going to the Dominican shop for my hair was clockwork since moving to Arizona I can honestly say I could not find a hair shop or hair dresser that I liked. Until I found NYC beauty salon. I am now back in my two week regiment for a wash and set. My first time around I got a deep condition treatment which was a bit pricey I ended up paying I think $80 including a tip I also got a trim. Well worth it I now go every other week for their $25 wash and set special which is Monday thru Wednesday. Definably a true NY feel don't expect to be in and out you will spend a few hours here but it's worth it. I love the environment and family feel this is my new go to. read more

I am biracial half black half white with light wavy hair oftentimes dry and frizzy. I'm not good at keeping up with care but now having found this spot I won't have to do it myself. She understands that my hair doesn't do well with a lot of product and weighs down easily. I go there now once monthly for the deep condition treatment and more often for a set and blowout. Also just got trimmed there. She takes her time and gives you your money's worth. After 6 years in AZ I think I've found my spot. Yay!!! Cheers. P.s. for those reviews that mentioned concerns about pricing - they do have a check in station where everyone who goes there has to check in and select the service(s) they came for which shows the price(s) right away so you know what to expect at the end. First let me say I'm from New York, I took my 10 year old daughter who has natural hair there. They initially look at her tight curls and thought her hair was going to be coarse and that she needed a EXPENSIVE keratin treatment! I decline, she came in again and said did she just take out braids ? I told her no, she offered other "special" products which I just felt like they were trying to make money off of me. My child is young and doesn't need all of these products. I also ask that the lady doing my daughter's hair not be so rough or use that much heat. I was ignored and talked about in another language. Long story short, my daughter's hair came out beautiful like it always does when she gets a blow out. The next day my daughter's hair started to break off so bad! It continued throughout the week! I have never seen my child's hair like this! I don't know what they put in her hair or if the heat was way to high like I told them several times! No professionalism, they don't know a thing about hair care! They are money hungry and I feel they think if you have natural curls your hair will be automatically hard to tame! I DO NOT recommend this place! AT ALL! I had to cut my daughter's severely damaged hair so she can start again. This is a disgrace to put NYC on your name. I visited the salon for the $25 wash & set special. In the middle of my wash I asked for the total price for all the services I wanted. When I asked why the wash & set wasn't $25 the stylist blatantly lied & said that special was only on Monday's & Tuesday's (their not even open on Monday's) I told her I called yesterday & was told it was $25 on Tuesdays & Wednesdays she then says in order for it to be $25 my hair has to be short to my ears so I said ok. The wash & set doesn't include a conditioning treatment or flat iron those both cost extra . When my hair was finished I asked the stylist to wrap it she tells me it's $5 for a doobie net unless I have my own. I asked could she use bobby pins instead she tells me she doesn't have any bobby pins how do you own a salon but don't have any bobby pins? When it was time to pay she told me a different price from what was told to me in the beginning When I asked why the price was different she had no explanation then changed it to the original price I was told. This was my first & last visit to this salon. This was exactly what I was hoping for when I finally found a Dominican salon in the Valley. I've recently transitioned back to natural and was ready to give it up because I couldn't find a salon to help keep my hair healthy and growing. The owner was wonderful and reassured me the second I walked in that they could handle my hair type with ease. I got a wash and set with a deep conditioner and much needed trim for my dead ends. The results were healthy hair and cute little bob! The stylist was an older lady who was so patient and took such pride in my hair and her work. I came in on Thursday around 3:30. It wasn't busy. I was seen right away. They have a placenta deep conditioner that leaves your hair incredibly soft. I did the Dominican roller set for the first time. Not so much intense heat as a blowout so I felt good about my decision. I have thick 3b curly hair. Guadalupe washed my hair well & took her time detangling! She knew what she was doing. I was comfortable in the friendly environment & with the music. I loved it here & will definitely be back!! Moving to Arizona from New York was not easy. It's hard leaving family, friends behind. It's hard to find the things that bring you close and remind you of home. I searched for salons for over 3 years. I could not find anyone I could trust with my hair. I finally heard of a salon that had great reviews and came well recommend by a great friend. I had to try. I knew from the moment I stepped inside NYC salon I found a place I could call home. NYC salon is not only a professional place in a warm and inviting environment, but for the time I was there I felt like I knew them my whole life. What A happy environment filled with happy people. I knew it was great already. I was escorted politely to have my hair washed. OMG my wash was fantastic. I had so many questions and each one answered in a very professional manner and most of all with a smile. I sat down and wow, comfy chairs, great music. I enjoyed my experience to the fullest. The best part was the before and after. My hair was full of life they cut it the way I asked. Having long hair is hard to trust when cutting inches. I love these ladies! I'm transitioning from relaxed to natural and these ladies are the only ones I trust to properly straighten my hair. Everyone speaks Spanish which I think is really cool even though I don't speak it and they have merengue playing all the time which makes it hard not to get up and dance while they're working that flat iron lol. I think I've went to almost every last one of these beautiful ladies and I am always treated good and with respect. The fact that they speak Spanish doesn't bother me at all, if that's the language they are more comfortable with speaking I'm fine with it. However, I don't think they are talking crap. I'm from California and I'm used to my stylist keeping it real with me so if my hair is really damaged and they tell me I'm not easily offended it's the truth. Also I don't think they have a problem with African American hair, as Latin people come in different colors with different hair textures which is why I love coming here, they are certainly not afraid to straighten some naps and kitchen lol. Since coming here I am actually more comfortable with my natural (unrelaxed) hair. Give these ladies a chance they are educated and cool as hell. Oh yea and remember everyone's hair is different so it will act differently than someone else's hair! You have to find a style right for you. They are reasonably priced for the quality of care given. My hair is going through some changes and Stephanie helped me with Keratin treatment last month and it did amazing things for me. Id prob have to take out a second mortgage to upkeep my hair coming here! I came from paying $25 for a wash and set (rollers and blow dry) and they charged me $35.. I gagged when they charged my gf $70 when they originally told her $40.. that's a $30 difference! I wish I could keep coming here.. but I just can't afford it.. Typical NY DR salon. I have 4c hair and I got a wash, D.C., blow out, flat iron, trim for $70. My hair was LAID. I loved my hair when I was done but I realized I can't go on the regular 'cause they straight up ripped through my hair with a small tooth comb. This is probably a great place to go if you're relaxed and if I do relax I'll probably go back but if you're natural be aware they are NOT gentle with your hair. AT ALL. The wash lady washed the hell out of my hair and it felt great, the problem is that on 4c hair that creates massive tangles which your stylist will straight up rip apart..... yep. I'm telling you. They WILL RIP through your hair with a fine tooth comb. I originally asked for a roller set (having a flashback to when I was relaxed in high school) but they were like "we can't get the rollers into your hair" so I was like cool, just blow it out. She did tell me to make my hair more "tame" I should get a keratin treatment, which honestly I am entertaining. She blew out my hair and I was happy with the end result, I mean really happy with it. After my fourth time getting my hair done, at this typical DR hair salon, I really loved the way they worked with my curly hair, so I kept going back. Always paid about 120-140 for highlighting and color, style included. I recently went and had the same thing done, color and highlights. The lady doing my hair never gave me an estimate of how much it would be. Never asked me if I wanted to have my hair put in rollers either. Because I asked to have her add some curls, I was charged $260 dollars! They totally took advantage of me. Make sure you get an estimate before letting them do your hair ladies. I'll never return again. Totally unprofessional to charge some that kind of money without consulting with the customer first. read more

I am so happy I found this salon! I had googled it prior to but was a little apprehensive because I know sometimes things outside of NY, like hair styling can be extra expensive. ( ironic right lol?!?) I came in at about 2pm and luckily was seen right away. I said I wanted just a blow out and the rollers were suggested because they last longer and they do, but I was on a slight time constraint, just a blow out and the matter was never pushed. The lady who started washing and combing my very dirty and knotty hair lol was very cool. We chatted about the East Coast, Arizona, our kids etc very easy to talk. Then I found out she was the owner! Any boss who takes the time who washes and combs, is someone who truly cares about her business. I told her my hair frizzed easy and she made sure to put product that will help. I got my hair blown out by someone else who did a fantastic job and I walked out feeling great, with some lovely straight hair for $45.
