Chicken & spinach in coconut milk with rice and sweet plantains (with side of coleslaw)
Millie C.

Yes, you're in CT, but for a little moment in time you can travel to Jamaica. I had the lunch special, which constantly changes. Mine was a chicken & spinach stewed in coconut milk with rice & sweet plantains. I savored every single bite. Delicious! It felt like I was eating a home cooked meal in someone's kitchen. No doubt I'll be back again. They also make coco bread--soft, moist, delicious! I haven't explored their breakfast but I know I will. There is a cafeteria next to this place so plenty of room for sitting. I did take out. Very welcoming. It's hard to find but now I know easiest way to get here is to go up Oakwood Dr. and make a right into the complex area. The complex is right across the oakwood soccer complex.

sandwich

delicious breakfast sandwich! a little spicy, rly enjoyable tho, nothing too spicy! staff was very friendly and sweet! i also got an iced coffee which is self serve but i honestly preferred that because i got to make it exactly how i liked it! also bread on my sando was other worldly

Chicken dish that uses dark meat, something I NEVER EVER eat, but I ate every single bite of this delicious prepared concoction.

Food selection is limited and pricey, and the service is slow. The food is good if you like spicy.

Delicious sandwiches and bread was amazing. Cookies were a nice surprise. Extremely friendly, family-owned business. A hidden gem, for sure!

I had a couple of questions and they were answered quickly through IG. Not being sure whether or not I was in the 20-mile radius, I gave it a try and it went through - I'm right around that 20 mile mark. (They are located in Glastonbury and I live in Higganum) There is a 30.00 minimum for free delivery. Matt/co-owner was super friendly and kept me posted when he was about 20 minutes from my home. I ordered the mint chocolate chunk, vanilla bean, Connecticut River fudge and the waffle chips / toppings. Although I tasted each one and I am super happy with the flavors and the creaminess, I decided to have a serving of the Connecticut River fudge with a couple of toppings and waffle chips Yummmm Every bite either had fudge or a miniature peanut butter cup or both. You just can't go wrong with adding peanut butter to pretty much anything. I recommend all three flavors and I will be ordering again. They also make ice cream chocolate chunk cookie sandwiches. I did not order any but I did find out from Matt that they are recently in the Big Y near me, Middletown. I will be trying them soon.

The staff are sweet, friendly, and so helpful, especially for first-timers. The waffles are incredible. There are so many options to choose from, so good luck deciding! I had the Berries Insanity fruit-topped waffle and the fruit was honestly the freshest I've ever had. My husband opted for the Gourmand waffle (a Bananas Foster vibe). He opted for a Liège waffle (chewy) and I went with the Brussels waffle (crispier) and both were amazing. Drinks are just as good, from coffee and espresso to tea, matcha, or juice. We also shared a Zinneken's breakfast meal and it was perfectly made. Everything was incrediblly delicious and made for such a great brunch. We can't wait to go back!

However, this place is sneaky about prices. Firstly, They do not list prices on the menu, and after seeing my receipt, I understand why. If you want to add mixed berries to your waffle, they charge you $1.75 per type of berry. I ordered a black tea with a splash of milk, and they charged me the price of a tea latte. They also refuse to give tap water, and make you pay for bottled water- a practice that rubs me the wrong way. It cost nearly $50 for two people to eat breakfast here. Overall, the place isn't terrible, but is not transparent with prices.

I've had food prepared by Nancy (the owner) before and always had my taste buds yearning for more, but last night I was able to step into the kitchen with her and take one of her informative, fun and very delicious cooking classes. I went with my team from work, and it was a great environment where once we all strapped on our Ginger & Pickles aprons, we were all able to "let our hair down" so to speak... We were greeted with a fabulous wine and cheese board, along with a phenomenal Brie baking away for us. We were given a menu of what we would all be cooking and enjoying that evening, pre chosen by our team leader. The menu was well planned, well written and not at all stuffy or overly complicated. Our "Valentines Day Date Night" menu included a wonderful beef tenderloin with a cream sauce, haricots verts with shallots and soufflés we made. So so so good! People work in teams on recipes and it really helps the evening flow. While 2 people are working with Nancy (and sometimes her assistant Brooke), the rest are taking in wine, Brie and observing some new techniques in the kitchen. Once one team is complete, The next team moves on to the next section of the menu. Before you know it, dinner is being played and served. Everything came out so well, it was as if we were dining out at your favorite restaurant. Nancy is able to answer all your questions and explain why things are done one way versus another, or give you ideas and tips on how to increase your own culinary skills at home. I will definitely be bringing friends here for some classes in the future.
