I initially found this salon when I was dealing with very painful ingrown toenails, and that's when I met Alex. The location and salon itself were nothing impressive, but Alex was excellent. She spent hours carefully trimming, repairing, and treating my nails, including removing the ingrown toenails. I was very happy with her work. Unfortunately, once Alex left, the quality of my experience declined dramatically. The salon became increasingly unkempt, technicians were frequently absent or unavailable, and, most frustratingly, my appointment requests repeatedly went unanswered. Whatever the reason for the decline, the service and communication have become extremely disappointing. I would not return and do not recommend this salon. read more

I've been going here for my Mani and Pedi for well over 7 years, it's always clean and cozy in the salon, all of the lades (technicians) are amazing. there's only 3 so they are by appointment only but it's not hard to get in, and no matter what customers are in there the vibe always feels like you are hanging out with friends, my favorite is Alex who's work never disappoints she's very meticulous about taking care of my dry skin and yuck cuticles, but Jessica and Lee are just as efficient, you can't go wrong with this place read more

Quite possibly the best pedicure I've ever gotten. Alex took her time on my feet. She removed an ingrown toenail, took out a sliver, and applied a thin layer of acrylic to one of my broken nails. I am SUPER picky about my nails, so bear that in mind. I also have a regular manicurist that I'm crazy about, but I decided to try #1 Nails because I was desperate, had broken 2 nails, and didn't have time to sit for 2 hours or drive to Oro Valley. I Yelped and found a recommendation for Alex, so I went for it. I pulled up, only to note on Yelp that they are appointment only, so I called. They said "come on in!" So I did. The salon is very small, in a small, well-kept business complex at Broadway and Country Club. There are 3 stations for the three employees. It's clearly a place that has its regulars and doesn't really NEED business from others (hence the appointment only). They also don't take credit cards, CASH please! They don't even have a machine! So, clearly they don't need the money. I sat down in the pedicure chair, which is absolutely beautiful and Alex gave me a pedicure. She immediately noticed that I am prone to ingrown toenails and cleaned my cuticles and edges beautifully. She also picked my polish color, which I loved. My manicure was good as well. She picked a color for me, which isn't something I'd generally choose for myself, but it is pretty. The only thing I didn't like is that I elected to do a tip on the two nails that I'd broken so I didn't have to cut down the other 8 and the acrylic on the two tips is much thicker than I generally like it. Maybe it's the proximity to the other nails, but in the future I'd probably skip the tip and just cut the other nails down even though I hate super-short nails. Eh. Overall, Alex did a good job for not knowing me at all and I would go back if I'm in the area. She listens well, is very observant, and the shop is clean, quiet, and in good proximity to get an appointment during the week if you work downtown. read more

I was in the vicinity and decided on an impromptu pedicure. I called and found out that the majority of their customers come by appointment, but they had an appointment within 15 minutes. I arrived and they were quite busy, but they were able to accommodate me as discussed by phone. Note: the location is pushed back in the shopping square near Laffs. It's on the southeast side of the lot. Took me a minute to figure that out. It's a small shop. They have about three tables and three chairs. I arrived to a lively crowd -- a group of ladies who all seem to be regulars at the shop. They were all laughing and sharing stories about work and family and having a good time. The attendants greeted me by name, since they have been waiting for me after I called. I was asked to pick out my nail polish color and found that their selection is quite broad. Lots of color options. Within minutes I was seated in prepped for my $23 pedicure. Folks, this is hands-down the best pedicure I've had in Tucson. I've had luck getting wonderful pedicures in Los Angeles, but I've not quite had an experience like this. My attendance, Han, was very gentle and patient. She was so meticulous with every step of the pedicure. Detail oriented and very communicative. I sat back in the massage chair and enjoyed my book, trying several times not to doze off. One of the things that frustrates me about some spas and salons is that the attendant will sometimes be too distracted. She'll be having a conversation with the person next door or talking about something of little interest. Or they'll take little care with their work. We're talking about the human body! There's nothing like getting cut and then receiving a halfhearted apology or none at all. But Han was amazing. When I left and saw my sun drenched toes I was amazed. They look like something right out of a magazine ad! I am not kidding even by a little bit. And they felt so refreshed and soft. I wished my whole body could feel like that. read more

This place was A-OK -- right up until the point where it wasn't. I was visiting Tucson and had a hankering to get my nails done. Relying on Yelp, I found this place and realized it was quite close by to where I was having dinner. I stopped by the nail salon at 7:15, wondering if it would have closed at 7:00 (I couldn't find the hours on the Yelp app on my phone). All the lights were on. The door was open. And there were two other clients in there getting their nails done. Still, their sign said that they close at 7:00. I popped my head in and asked if they were still taking customers, and, they waved me in - "no problem, come on in." They called someone out of the back to work on my nails. She was capable and fine, though she seemed slightly timid and unsure of her work. All was going just fine, and I was pleased with the whole situation...right up until the end. I asked for the total, and was reaching for my wallet, when the woman who had done my nails offered me her business card. I thought, "Well, good for her - she's going to ask for me to be a repeat customer." But no -- here's what she said -- "Here's our phone number. Next time you want to come in, you call, ok?" So, in all, it was a good nail experience. And I enjoyed the friendly banter between the other customers, who were clearly regulars, and their nail technicians. And, I get it that I probably kept this one woman from going home on time, and maybe she had some really urgent things she needed to tend to than my stupid nails. I get all of that. But, they didn't have to take a walk-in after hours, only to blame me for that a bit later. read more

I have been going to see Jessica, Leigh and Alex for more than a year now. I was trying all of the nail places in the area one by one, when I stumbled onto Number One Nails. They do a great job period, but I feel they are especially attentive when it comes to pedicures. They have just the right balance of professionalism, friendliness and empathy. It's a small enough shop that you feel apart of it while you are there. I don't expect this from a beauty shop, but everytime I go, I have a good time and I feel better about myself when I leave! tl;dr version - call ahead/book an appointment, cash/check ONLY, amazing service/highly recommend I wanted a last-minute gel manicure before a cross-country road trip. Heeding other reviews, I called first thing in the morning to get an appointment (yes, you should definitely call ahead!). I was able to schedule for the same day in the afternoon. Alex took me promptly when I arrived. She was super sweet and did a beautiful job with my nails. The shop carries a TON of color options and Alex was patient and helpful as I took all too long to choose my Halloween-inspired colors. The shop itself is small, clean and unassuming. All three technicians had clients when I was there and they seemed to have a good flow of people calling for an appointment (so, again, call ahead and don't be shocked if you can't get something immediately). One down-side: CASH/CHECK ONLY!! I was lucky enough to have a check on me otherwise I would've had to go to a bank I don't belong to and pay fees to take out cash (I'm from out of town and my bank doesn't exist in Tucson). Seriously the best nail salon I've ever been to. I've been a client off and on for 14 years, I love everyone in the shop. They have zero turnover, so all the ladies that work there will now will be there next time you go. They all really take the time to get to know you, understand what you want and make sure you're happy. They remodeled a year or two ago, so the pedicure chairs are new and clean Everything in the shop is SPOTLESS, you can tell Jessica, Lee and Alex really take pride in their work and care about their clients. You absolutely must make an appointment, and I'd recommend making it at least a few days out because they are booked. They are CASH ONLY, but I think that helps them keep the prices so reasonable, I'm not sure the have increased them in the last 14 years.
