While it's true that they are more expensive than conventional nail salons, there's a reason for that. You'll also need to book pretty far in advance if you are looking for a certain time of day, for example a weekday morning. I'm not someone who gets my nails done on a regular basis, it's kind of just a special occasion type of thing. And also results will vary just depending on the technician you get. I've seen at least three different people there and the end result is always different. Looking for an eco-friendlier nail salon, I found Greentoes. I usually get my nails done before a trip and didn't have time this particular trip. Thankfully, Greentoes had several appointments the next day I arrived in town. I got a call from the salon 10-minutes before my appointment saying my technician was running 45 minutes behind. Almost there already I had to pivot my plans for the morning. They were very nice and offered a 10% discount for the inconvenience. Thankfully, I didn't have anywhere pressing I needed to be that morning. At my appointment, the service was great. I got greeted and seated right away. I got to pick out my color and then the service began. It was a lovely moment to relax for myself. The foot and calf massage was the best. I didn't want her to stop. It was a bit on the pricier side than I usually pay at my normal spot. I usually get a gel polish, but the gel was an add-on to any already high priced service. I have had a few pedicures at the 6th Avenue location with Hannah, she is excellent and quiet. The atmosphere is very peaceful and the pedicure room is quite small, so I feel like if I do talk it is too loud for others, so I generally put in my iPods and relax. The seating for the pedicures is unusual in that it is raised up long bench and kind of stiff with lots of down pillows (feather pokeys), so usually rearrange the pillows to get comfortable. I definitely prefer a nice pedicure chair to their seating. read more

I have been twice for facials. Both times convinced me to change from my previous spa to Greentoes. I find the staff just amazing. Their aesthetician, Emily is wonderful. They actually go out of their way to help the customer. Prices are reasonable, and they use Eminence products, the best on the market. The first time I went I also had a pedicure. The aesthetician was great, but the benches I cannot use. I have very bad arthritis, and can't climb, getting down was extremely difficult. The pedicure was marvelous , and I know the benches are smart from a business perspective, it helps prevent strain on the pedicurist, most important, and takes up less space than the traditional chair. First pedicure sine the pandemic started. That's exactly two years ago, and I am so glad I was able to book the private room at Greentoes. Being that I am pregnant and continuing to take extra precautions for my safety and babies, I knew I was in good hands at Greentoes. Masks are still required in doors, thank you! The space is immaculate and clean as always and it's just a pleasant atmosphere. It's cozy yet airy. They use all green/organic products from Spa Ritual and and Eminence, which is important to me. The private room seats two people. I booked my next appointment already to return with my sister. The booking process online is super easy and seamless. It feels so good to have a comfy and easy to schedule nail place. I felt very welcomed and loved the atmosphere. Shellease made my nails beautiful and I loved talking with her. She was informative about the process (I don't get my nails done often and I'm usually anxious about it.) She was so sweet! I love that 99% of the products they use are vegan. Because the salon uses natural items, Fernanda me that the manicure would not hold for as long as I might expect. It's true. And less than a week, it was chipping away. However, the pedicure remained pretty pristine even a month after the service. Hugely impressed there. The takeaway point: Greentoes is not typical of standard salons. It doesn't feel like the specialists are droning on and on in jobs they despise. The folks here seem to love their work -- or, at a minimum, enjoy it. The space carries that same air. Have you ever had a $50 pedicure where they don't even touch your heels? The receptionist booked me for a pedicure without describing the service and before I knew it I was getting polish without any footwork. When I asked for a my feet to be done she said they didn't have time. Then she painted my nails in a rush and asked me to get out of the chair and wait in the lobby for them to dry. She didn't have shoes and wouldn't help me with my shoes and told me to walk around barefoot through the lobby. For being the "premier" nail salon in town it was all tacky and frustrating. After I left the review below, Jeanette from Greentoes contacted me to apologize, refund me for my daughter's services and invite me to bring her back to reapply polish. This was an excellent step, and I was very impressed by the responsiveness of the business. That said, my concern over value remains. Greentoes charges more for their services than any other salon I've ever been to, including natural nail salons in larger cities. As an example see my review of Ten Over Ten, a natural and non-toxic salon in Austin and New York. Their essential mani and pedi cost only one dollar more than the express mani and pedi I received at Greentoes and includes more, such as foot filing for callouses. I checked the menus of both places to be sure of this. Original Review: (Two Stars) I really don't like leaving negative reviews, especially when a place is locally owned and doing good things. But after taking my daughter on a pampering date to Greentoes, I was extremely disappointed and felt it worth reviewing. I had surveyed my friends for a place in town that offered mani/pedi services without the chemicals and toxic fumes, there was only one suggestion: Greentoes. And it is just that, you walk in and aren't accosted by the formaldehyde smell. The polishes are all seven-free. And it's clear they focus on natural products. So why the harsh review? Well l, it comes down to value. My daughter is four years old, but we were charged for full-priced services -- even though she took a third of the time. She doesn't have calluses or gnarly toes, her feet and hands are teensy. She ended up sitting and waiting the entire time I got my pedicure done because she was finished. I say this, because the artist that did her was able to move onto her next client as a result. That's why most places have a service menu specifically for kids. Greentoes does not. After dropping more than $100 for the two of us (ouch!!), I expected the polish jobs would at least last. But 24 hours later, half of my daughter's toes no longer have lacquer. Thank you Greentoes for making it simple to send a birthday gift to my stepmother that she loved!!! She lives about 30 minutes away, and she and my Dad don't need a single thing, so birthdays and holidays leave me wondering "oh no, what to send/do?"; I panic for a good two weeks and then it is two days before the event itself and I make some last-minute decision and it often times arrives late. I purchased a living social deal to have a manicure and pedicure, and I haven't been anywhere since. Erinn is my technician and she does a great job. The location is a bit tricky to find with all the one way streets and construction on St. Mary's but once I found it, it's been no problems every since. They use vegan nail products so if that's important to you this is your place. It's a inviting space and calm without noise. I've gone on Mondays so I usually have the place to myself scheduling the earliest appointment I can get. It's true they don't do cuticle trimming, but usually I don't like that since my cuticles end up peeling since I have to wash my hands 20 or more times a day at work. This is the place to go for the perfect pedicure. I've been to those other cheap Asian places and I am never happy with the quality of service I receive. So I realized if I want a great pedicure I have to go to Greentoes. You get the highest quality products and the best service. I love how you get to choose your scent for the scrub and the lotion. The jasmine is absolutely amazing and my feet and legs smelled yummy for the rest of the day. I've been seeing Jessica twice and I would highly recommend her. Overall: Excellent, friendly service, reasonable prices, and a commitment to low chemical, environmentally and human-friendly products. I went to Greentoes while visiting a friend in Tucson. She got a gel manicure, and I got the Essential Pedi. Space/ambiance: it is a tranquil space with modern but inviting decor that feels like you're in someone's house. There is a lot of natural light, but it still feels like an oasis from the sun-drenched, dry Tucson heat. There is a tidy front desk, polish displays, and limited skin care product in display is the entry/waiting area. The manicures are in one room and the pedis in the adjacent room. The pedi stations are raised banquettes rather than massage chairs, which looks much nicer, even if they aren't quite as relaxing as the massage chairs. Service: admittedly, we arrived a few minutes late, but they were very accommodating and didn't make us feel bad about it. My pedicure included a choice of product fragrance. I selected Yuzu rose. I also had the option of Egyptian geranium, jasmine, and one other that I forgot. The fragrance choice is then used throughout the pedi--soak, scrub, lotion. The fragrances are gorgeous and not overwhelming. I am often sensitive to scent, but these didn't trigger any sneezing or reaction from me. The pedi itself was great! They do a great salt scrub on your feet and calves, a nice foot and lower leg massage, and thorough callous removal and foot/heel exfoliation. It is very relaxing and leaves your feet feeling great. Finally, the polish--some places definitely do a better job with polish than others and this one does a great job! I initially chose a very sparkly polish, and I found out it is pretty sheer. At the recommendation of the woman doing my feet, I paired it with another color polish for a fun, sort of purple disco ball effect. It was exactly what I was looking for :). From the perspective of a San Franciscan, the prices are as expected/reasonable for a higher end nail salon. I suspect they might be a tad high for Tucson, but it seems worth it. In summary, Greentoes is a great way to pamper yourself and know that you're not putting toxic chemicals onto your nails/skin and that you're also protecting employees from them too. read more
