I ordered Fried rice. Fried rice is usually a barometer of the overall chef's skill in Chinese food. A chef should be able to use high heat to stir all ingredients quickly to make hot and fluffy fried rice. This fried rice would probably be one of the lowest ranks in my life. The rice is wet and heavy. I found many chunks of sticked rice. This somehow reminded me of Japanese fried rice. Japanese made fried rice are typically wetter side. Seasoning is below the low sodium order. It's really blunt and subtle seasoning. The kitchen was busy and I could hear they getting more calls over and over. So they tried to cook fast. This is my second time being unhappy here. First time my boyfriend found a piece of plastic in his food. The second time the food was not great. Fried rice was dry, hard and oily, like it was from day before. I ordered Hunan Chicken and it only had a few pieces of chicken in it. I feel as though $30 for 2 combination platters (of mainly old rice) and very small crab Rangoon were not worth it. The service is the only reason for the 2. The food at A Dragon (Chinese Restaurant No. 2) is pretty good, which is one of my favorite places to stop for inexpensive Chinese takeout in the Sycaway (Brunswick) neighborhood. This little Chinese takeout restaurant in the Gateway Plaza (circa 1994-Screen Jems era) was formerly Lee Tang. The place is very cozy inside with an order counter and small table seating area for eating in and a flatscreen TV on the wall. The prices at A Dragon are very reasonable with good portions of food. No MSG according to the menu. Most items on the menu are priced under $10 and most Chef's Specialties Combos (with white rice) are priced $9.25-$11.95. 33 Lunch Specials11AM-3PM ($4.95-$5.50) served with pork fried rice & pint of soup and 27 Special Combination Platters ($6.80-$7.45) are offered. My favorite lunch specials are the L5 Shrimp Lo Mein, L25 Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with Shrimp and L26 Scallops in Garlic Sauce. The pork fried rice (light yellow color) is fairly standard with peas, carrots, onions, and small pieces of tender roast pork with soft light rice. I enjoy hot and sour soup which has good spicy flavors. Since the lunch specials for takeout may be served in round foil containers, I make sure to transfer any leftovers into a microwave safe container. The service here is good and prompt. read more

Their prices are excellent, they even just came out with a new menu for college students.. which i was a year ago so they let me enjoy... for 4.99 you get your standard combo plate of entree and rice (fried or white) and a can of soda.. I think for a $1 you could add a soup. Excellent food, they are the nicest people in the world. Hot and sour soup is off the charts and in my last visit I tried their "house specialty' Chow Mei Fun... Holy COW!!!! im done with the ole beef and brocolli. So far this is the best Chinese I've found in the Troy area. The food is hot and fresh, beef and broccoli is tasty with perfectly cooked broccoli. Wonton soup was excellent and flavorful, and the General Tso was crispy even after it got to the apartment. I'm used to General Tso having a little bit of heat, where theirs is more sweet, but extremely tasty. When ordering lo-mein noodles, they are not too greasy, cooked well, not soggy. Everything comes with rice - so be prepared to have tons of leftover rice!! I can understand how some people may have a problem communicating with the folks there - they do have quite the strong accent and only moderate English, however they are very nice in person, if a little abrupt on the phone (they are usually busy!!). The vegetable chow mein was a bowl of sliced onions with a few flecks of green broccoli SWIMMING in a clear/white goo which was found to be inedible. The eggplant...whatever it was...was seasoned with the foulest, most non-Chinese spices I have ever experienced. It was SAD. All of the food was BARELY EDIBLE and I was really starving or I would not have eaten a second bite. Their white rice was alright. I also came up short of cash after I left and I hate to say this, but I think they might have pick-pocketed my purse while I was eating/talking on the phone. In terms of Chinese takeout, it's just okay. Chinese takeout is inherently 'meh' and this place meets that expectation. You're going to get what you expect. All dishes are pre-cooked via steamer and then are finished in a wok. If you decide to eat in the restaurant, they give you a little more rice; Delivery, however, is always better. Plum blossom up the street is many times better in quality and flavor profile, but it would be unfair to compare the two as they are two separate categories of Chinese. For $6, you can get a bowl of soup, fried rice, and your dish. Cheap and easy. read more

Got this for my kids and I, and we loved it. The orange chicken, General Tso's chicken, and sesame chicken were excellent. I was hoping for bourbon chicken, but I k ow that's one of those styles that isn't always made. Very good, solid egg rolls, too. I ordered delivery for my mother, who cannot get out right now because of the COVID-19 quarantine. The woman who took the order and oversaw the delivery, which was more complicated because of the current pandemic, was very understanding and helpful. The quality of food was excellent and everything was hot when delivered. Tried this place again. The rudeness of the people who run this place took another star away. Didn't even ask if I wanted anything else on the phone before telling me "10 minutes" and hanging up. When my boyfriend went in to pick up the food, one guy was staring at the tv, looked at him, and went back to the tv. The lady was on the phone, didn't acknowledge him for a few minutes, until she asked if he was picking up, and then was extremely rude to the person placing an order on the phone while she rang him out. This is probably the best Chinese take out I have found in the area. I moved here about 2 years ago and in NJ there were Chinese food places on almost every corner. Up here, that's not the case but A Dragon was a good find and when I'm in the mood, I go there for take out. Prices aren't awful but they're not dirt cheap either. if i could give 0 stars i would!!! i ordered a general tso combo meal with a vegetable egg roll, and first of all it took an hour and a half to get here so the food was cold. i warm up the food in the microwave and i start to eat my now chewy nasty chicken. i feel a sharp pain on the side of my cheek when i swallowed a piece of chicken, i thought my tooth had fallen out unexpectedly. i reached my fingers in and pulled out A F*CKING GLASS SHARD!!!!! I start to look all over my food and i notice that there's glass shards ALL. OVER. The food is okay at best, but there are MUCH better places within a minute or two from here. The people who've rated A. Dragon higher must not eat much Chinese or have lower standards. Just down the road you have Green Shell, and just up the road is Plum Blossom. If you don't mind driving a few more miles there's Sunny Wok. A. Dragon is just not consistent in their food preparation so you really never know if you're going to get a good or a bad meal. We used to order frequently because they deliver, but after so many mediocre meals we drive the extra few miles to pick up the food because it's vastly superior. If you're looking for one of the best in the area then try Lee Lin on Pauling Avenue in Troy. Again, while I love the convenience of having my food delivered, I'm just not willing to sacrifice quality; so we drive to one of the other aforementioned places to pick it up now. read more

I ordered delivery from A Dragon because I had been wanting some General Tso's Chicken for a while. When I asked if there were any Chinese delivery places around, one of my friends told me about A Dragon. I figured I'd try it out. So I called in to order, and I have to say, it was a hassle trying to get my order taken. I had a small delivery menu, and said, quite clearly, that I wanted to order "A D10, General Tso's Chicken, and two plain S2s, the boneless friend chicken." After I went through the order, the person receiving the order sort of said something very fast, and I didn't understand what she was saying, then she said the price, and I said "okay," and she hung up. The order took a reasonable time to arrive. Their driver certainly knew how to do his job. However, when I got the order, it was two S2s, and an order of chicken wings. Strike one; not a huge deal, though, since occasionally orders get mixed up and the wrong thing gets sent to the wrong house. So, I called them, and said that I ordered General Tso's Chicken and the boneless fried chicken, but instead of getting the former, I got chicken wings. Instead of maintaining any sort of upstanding customer service, the person on the other end starts telling me that I ordered chicken wings. I told her that, no I said "a D10 and two S2s," but she wasn't having any of it. The repeatedly told me that I ordered chicken wings. Strike two. Don't tell the customer what they ordered, when they ordered something else. She was not courteous, but instead she was just arguing with me about what I ordered. I told her "I never said anything about chicken wings," and she just laughed and hung up on me. Strike three. Since apparently their answer to phone calls about messed up orders is "just hang up," I drove over to the restaurant, walked up to the counter with the order and the delivery menu. The person who was at the counter sounded like she was the one on the other side of the phone, and I told her again: "I ordered a D10 and two S2s, and got two S2s and chicken wings." Without apologizing, she grabs the bag, throws out the chicken wings, and then later comes back with the meal part of the D10 and the two other items. It didn't even have the rest of what was supposed to come with the Tso's Chicken, but at that point, I really didn't care enough. It was obvious I wasn't going to get anywhere, and, having not eaten anything all day, I just wanted to eat my food in peace. Got back home, ate the food, and it wasn't even that good. It was around the quality of the frozen Chinese dinners you can pick up from supermarkets. All-in-all: Atrocious customer service, mediocre food, abrasive staff, definitely not worth my money. Their only saving grace is that their delivery driver is quick. I don't plan on ordering from them again any time soon. Maybe I'll try Green Shell instead. read more
