I'm super bummed to write this review because nu image has been my go to nail salon for a few years. The last few times I've gone, they've dug at my cuticles so much that they've bled and cause discomfort. My last pedicure was the worst by far. She was so aggressive with trying to cut my ingrown toenails that they bled and she packed it with some kind of cotton ball and treatment. It was super painful. Well today I had to go to a podiatrist as it all became infected and they had to perform a procedure to remove part of my nail and the infected area along by toe bed. Never let nail technicians cut your ingrown toe nails or cuticles so far back! read more

There seems to be a nail salon on every corner in Chicago and I've been to quite a few, but Nu Image is truly the best I've been to and I love the music they play (no tv's ). Even though they are constantly busy, I get excellent service from Sidney (for gel sets) and Anna (for pedicures). They also have free parking which is a plus in Chicago. Tried this place for a regular mani and pedi and thought my technician Kim did a great job. I only go for these things about twice a year so I'm not a pro, but the salon itself - although busy - was a pretty chill environment. There were no TVs, which at first I was disappointed about, but after a while, the background music was very soothing and I felt myself relaxing more. I even got off my phone so I could be more present and enjoy the pampering. Everyone was nice. They prefer cash and give a 5% discount. They had a lot of colors to choose from, but it was difficult to understand which products cost extra. I also didn't see much in the way of designs, like nail art but maybe that is something you need to ask for. There was no upselling, which I appreciated. And it wasn't a rushed experience. Kim really went the extra mile making sure my callouses were removed from my feet with a scary cheese grater that tickled. And she fixed the parts I messed up because my nails weren't 100% dried. She also asked me if I liked the color once applying it the first time before she proceeded. Very professional job. I think the prices are pretty standard for nail services. They seem to keep really busy but like any salon making an appointment is best but they could probably accommodate walk-ins. read more

Update: After speaking to the owners, they had me come back into the salon. I was set up with Quen. She did an awesome job and fixed up the mani and pedi. They look very clean with beautiful crisp edges. I booked with her for 2 weeks from now. I guess I got a rough first impression, but thankfully they truly care about the customers experiences and fixed that first impression. Previously: This was my first, and unfortunately will be my last time to this place. While the guy who did my nails was a nice guy, truly, and I loved they used that sort of "grater" tool to help with calluses and dead skin, my overall no-chip mani and normal pedicure was something left to be desired. I didn't notice all these flaws when I left, as you typically just want to get going and to top it, they were busy, but when I had a moment to really look over I saw all the flaws. I honestly do a better job with the polish on my own. I remember pointing out to him nail polish on my skin on my pinky which he fixed but I didn't see the toes up close until later. Also noted was a lack of brand options to choose from for polish. Thy really only have DND DC duo brand. I typically prefer OPI or Essie. Think I will have to keep driving to my old place. Nice people, clean location and decent colors to choose from, but not the greatest mani/pedi. read more

I came here last week for a no chip mani and pedi. They were able to take me within 20 minutes which was cool so I bee lined over there quickly. I had a lady Annie do my work and she did a good job on my feet. A bit rough but I do have terrible feet. Lol! Very impressed that she was able to remove a ingrown the size of a hockey puck. She did my no chip and I did like the shape of my nails and color but I noticed some weren't shaped evenly. No bigs. Fast forward to a few days later I went back because my toe nail needed fo be fixed because the polish came off and I noticed my no chip started to chip. I've never had a no chip do this so quickly but I noticed it chipping and grey cracks on it. Typically it happens when the polish is old. I went in to get it fixed but I think there was a language barrier. I think the owner may have expected I wanted all of my nails with another coat of polish and for them to be reshaped which would be an additional charge since a another tech was doing it and it's her time (because my tech that did me was already busy). I told her I just wanted my nail that was chipping to be fixed. She then told me that's fine. Needless to say, they fixed my toe and 2 nails of no charge. But here I am thinking this now as I write this review "if I had to come back because 2 of my nails were chipping shouldn't they all just get a coat of clear polish with no charge?" Places like these kill me thinking they will lose money by going the extra mile. It cost nothing to them to provide an extra coat of polish! Anyway, I got home and noticed another nail chipped so I had to file it down. Goodness I know this is a long review. So let me sum it up. If you are in a bind (which my regular nail guru was off work and I could not wait) just check it out. They have free parking in the lot. Good customer service. It's clean. Be vocal and let them know your nails aren't even and have them fix it on the spot. Examine them before you leave. You are paying yo money honey and nails ain't cheap! So they have to get it right. ;) also don't let them push the overlay and acrylic on you unless you want it because it does weaken the nails. After this no chip, my nails will be going on a break! Stick to the OPI (although I am not going to lie it is very limited). Tell them you want 3 coats of polish (hell, maybe even get 4) because they apply it thin and it chips. Or skip the no chip and just get a mani pedi. I would still go back (if my nail boo isn't working for a quick fix). read more

After a lot of researching, I stumbled across Nu Image. To make an appointment, I suggest calling. They are really responsive and I have often been able to get in on the same day (though I should caveat that I usually make appointments for mornings in the middle of the week). They have a lot, and I mean a lot of colors to choose from. This could be a really great thing or hard for folks like me who have decision paralysis lol. I'm not usually a person that would leave negative reviews but i had to do it this time because every time i look at my nails, I want to cry so bad and I regret going here last night. This was my first visit to this salon because it was near my work, and I got dip powder with extensions ($50) and a reg pedicure ($30), which came out to be a total of $83 because they charge extra $3 for shapes like almond, coffin etc. I am so disappointed with how my nails turned out! Because I told them I wanted baby pink dip powder as base with glitters on top, but I should have mentioned that I wanted a glitter polish for the top. I showed the 1st picture to the front desk lady and I assumed she knows what I wanted, but I was wrong to assume that because It did not turned the way I wanted at all! Also I was charged extra $3 for coffin shape, and please tell me if I'm wrong, but this looks more like a square shape than coffin shape. And before anyone comes at me for getting a long extension for dip, the nail tech recommended it because she said that coffin shape won't show unless the nail is long enough even though I wanted shorter initially. The worst part is I'm going out of town for a week today so I don't even have time to go back to the salon to get it fixed. And now it seems like I either have to deal with it or get it fixed elsewhere during my vacation. The pedicure was mediocre honestly because there was not much of exfoliating involved unlike other spas but I'd still rate it around 4/5 because i noticed that she didn't applied enough nail polish on some of the toes so you can sort of see the unevenness. But it looks okay from far and that's all that matters. I just know for a fact that I won't be going back to this salon because with that price I paid for, there are other places with better nail techs in the area within the same price range. I'm extremely disappointed. I had scheduled an appointment for a dip manicure & No chip pedicure last week. I was in the chair for about 2.5 hrs & spent $160 on my nails only for the chrome to chip off the second day because they weren't sealed properly. I called and explain to them my issue. They told me to come in. I went to the salon and had the chrome "fixed" only to have the same problem the next day again. My nails didn't even last a week before they started lifting off my nail bed. One nail is gone completely. Ive had dip manicures done for as long as I can remember. They've lasted 3 weeks without an issue. Maybe that's why they kept trying to convince me to get acrylic nails. $160 spent on my nails down the drain.. I'm sorry but I will not be coming back here. read more

I'm generally not someone who reviews places, but my visit to Nu Image nails deserves a review. My sister and I went today and I got a no-chip manicure and she got an acrylic set. She wanted white polish [not no chip] and almond-shaped mid-length nails. She was left with short, thick, square, sheer cream-colored nails. The woman who did her nails cut them before asking for the shape, she then cut them too short. My sister asked for almond-shaped, and she said "no, they're too short we're doing square," when she literally could have removed the nail press-ons and started over. Then, when it came time to polish, my sister had chosen a white regular nail polish [it doesn't chip on acrylic so there's literally no need to get no chip when getting an acrylic set], the woman said that she had to do no chip because there was something the matter with her cuticles. WTF! No one has ever said that to me or her [or anyone] before so she made that up to charge an extra $10. She's very soft-spoken but still protested multiple times and the woman didn't listen to her and did quite literally whatever she wanted... She didn't show them to me until I'd paid [and tipped] and we left or else I wouldn't have paid in the first place. The nail tech left right after as well so we wouldn't have been able to talk to her about it either. The only way to make this right in my eyes is to refund her manicure AND fix them for free. I will never be going back to Nu Image nails and recommend everyone do the same. read more

Which I give him so much credit for because most owners always respond publicly, this made me know he was genuinely reaching out wanting to correct the original experience. So I decided to get a full set after searching through yelp this place seemed capable. I had been eyeing Pinterest pics so I knew exactly what I wanted. A classic sophisticated almond shaped set. Steve was my tech, he seemed nice but not particularly sure as to how to execute the request. I showed him the picture several times (attached). He decided an ombré set would be best. By the time he had finished I was beyond disappointed and decided to pay and leave before receiving my pedicure. The pic shown to him was so simple, yet I ended up with nails I can only liken to a joke (pic attached). They seriously looked like something from a Halloween costume. My cuticles are cut up, I asked for almond and he filed them to sharp points. I had to go to another nail salon to have them cut down and reshaped. By the way it was $58... FIFTY EIGHT DOLLAR The 2 stars is for Covid practices, they have taken a great deal of precaution for Covid as it relates to the comfort of customers. The first thing that got my attention: they pulled the cuticle scissors (or whatever they're called) out of the plastic wrapping that was NOT sealed. Then places them on an alcohol soaked piece of cotton to sterilize. It's been TWO DAYS and the GEL polish is completely lifting off half of my nails! Definitely one of the most pampering pedis that I've gotten. All the nail tools came out of sterile bags (the kind that medical instruments got into after the sterilization machines). The color selection at this place is lovely: I was lookin for a warm orange gel color and they had a few to choose from plus an entire wall of other colors. I have waited a year to write this review as I don't like writing negative reviews. Let me start by saying , I loved this nail shop prior to my last experience. I had been coming here for years, and had not visited ANY OTHER nail shop for years. I typically go all winter without pedicures. Last summer I got my first pedicure of the season, a no chip. I came back 4 weeks later for another. When the nail tech removed my no chip- I noticed a yellow/white discoloration in the corner of my toe. It completely caught me off guard when I saw it and I immediately said "Woah What's that". The nail tech said she wasn't sure, seemed unbothered and asked if I had maybe bruised by toe by dropping something on it. I had a bad feeling about continuing with the service but I allowed it because she seemed unconcerned. She used all the "sanitized" products as well as the communal tools like the (buffer, file, and no chip polish). Needless to say, another 4 weeks later, I removed the nail polish myself and discovered the white and yellow discoloration had grown. I now have a Toe FUNGUS on my big toe. This is a warning to BEWARE and hopefully for the owner to tighten up on sanitary practices. I am 100 percent sure this toe fungus came from this shop because It's my go-to shop and it was only my second pedicure of the season. I've never had a toe fungus my entire life. It has been extremely difficult treating and I'm so upset bc I can no longer enjoy pedicures since I feel like I cannot trust that the proper sanitary process is being followed. I would hate for anyone else to get infected. Please take the time to ensure your nail tech is practiced sanitation! read more
