Ok, so my normal eyebrow lady, whom ive been going to for 5+ years closed so I decided to try this place since some of my friends come here & its the next closest place to where I live. Ive never had my eyebrows done so fast, she legit spent under a minute on my eyebrows and I was the only person there. My eyebrows look as if I couldve done them myself. You're in, out and fabulous in a flash!!! I used to go to Nordstrom in Oakbrook and on Michigan ave. I quit going after one trip to Dipti. I won't go anywhere else. It's like the Billy Goat tavern of waxing. If you've ever been to the goat, you know it's a no frills place but well worth the trip. It's endured for a reason. Same can be said of Dipt's salon. I'll take a fast, brillant waxing and brow job at a less posh place, over a mediocre painful one at a spa ANY DAY! AND you don't have to pay for parking. My good friend recommended Dipti's years ago to me. I am so grateful she led me to this miracle worker! She always knows how to shape my eyebrows perfectly. What I like most is that she waxes the bottom of my eyebrows and threads the top. She also waxes my nose and upper lip. All for a great price! About 4 years ago, I began to get Brazilian waxes from her. Super quick and easy! I appreciate that Dipti carries a conversation with you throughout the process to distract you from the split second pain. FYI she's super quick with bikini waxes because she uses large stripes instead of lots of little ones, which I prefer. Let me tell you, it was a little intimidating seeing what looked like an 8 x 11 (exaggeration) sheet of paper after she applied the wax! She's a pro and knows what she's doing. Every time I come here, there's a line, no matter what time of day. I had to wait a bit even though I stopped by for an eyebrow threading on a Tues. afternoon at 2 pm. That's pretty impressive. Dipti is quick, and she charges only $7, but I don't feel very welcome here, as she doesn't greet you or say anything to you. Dipti is not as incredible as everybody says she is. Nice, yes. The best eyebrow threader in the world? Hardly. Is it really this difficult to find the perfect eyebrow threader in Chicago? In a city with a population of close to 3 million, shopping galore, food to die for, museums up the whazoo, I'd expect to have found the equivalent of Bebe. But no. I mean, am I reaching for the stars here? The place was packed. It is the complete antonym of glamour salon. The salon looks like a beat up hardware store from the outside and is no more enticing from the inside. Quite frankly, I wouldn't care so much about the decor if my eyebrows looked phenomenal. But they don't so I have to spill the entire story. It was so crowded you each have to pick a bright fluorescent laminated number and wait your turn. While you're waiting you'll have the pleasure of watching the latest on Bollywood and oh, watching everyone else get waxed and threaded. I don't mind getting threaded in front of an audience, but if you're private, definitely shop elsewhere. They sit you down for the whole world to see which, as I've experienced, is not that uncommon around these parts. I am just so used to the intimate and comfortable environment with Bebe that this was a bit abnormal to me. But hey, she was quick! And she got the job done. But they don't look awesome. If you're just looking to get the strays and shape them up a bit, this place could be just what you're looking for. Although I'm confident you can find someone else without a long line that will do an equally satisfactory job. She was nice as well but talked on the phone the entire time she did my brows. And this was like SUPER loud talking right in my face while she was threading. It already hurts having your eyebrows ripped out but to have somebody essentially screaming in your ear does nothing to help your current state of pain. I was in college when a girl friend of mine told me about her waxer/threader Dipti. She swore she wouldn't trust anyone else but DIpti removing any hair from her body. After moving back to Chicago after graduating college, I decided to go try Dipti. I have nothing really to add besides what everyone has said. Dipti is fantastic at what she does. She is a take charge kind of woman who knows what she is doing. I don't know if she even asked me what I wanted before she started to thread my brows the first time. But she gave me exactly what I would have asked for. Just removed the strays and let my natural shape shine through. And it's only $7.00 and worth the 20 minute drive in from the city. I've been coming to Dipti for about seven years now. I wouldn't trust anyone else. So for people who haven't been here, here is the vital info you need: **Dipti is open Monday-Saturday. I believe she opens at 11am and closes at 6pm. **You walk through the door and you take a number and you sit down **A few minutes after Dipti or one of her girls notices you, they will ask you what you are in there for. Threading or waxing? If you are in for threading, you wait your turn. But don't worry, it won't be that long--- Dipti works her magic within a few minutes of you sitting down in her chair. If you want waxing, they send you to a room and a waxer will come to your room. The girls who also dothe waxing are awesome as well. They are fast, friendly and I love them just as much I love Dipti. **Dipti is cash only. Her regular customers just put the cash in the top drawer. So I wrote a review for this place about a year ago. Given that, upon my recent visit, I promised Dipti another review? Figured I'd post a new one rather than revising the existing copy, in case it helps with keyword rankings or the whatnot. I'm nice like that. What's not nice? Is finally determining that while your wookie is likely not a deterrent to bringing the boys to the yard? You haven't attended to your BFF in several weeks. And then a date falls out of the sky. And you've been just busy enough to avoid the maintenance for your furry friend, but not oblivious to the fact that your gentle pruning and mom panties are not going to cut it. Someone needs to wax it. And you have no time to go anywhere but the place on your way home, where everyone knows your name. Pain thresholds, same difference. I drive by this salon every day. Considering their foot traffic, at least during my evening peekaboos, is almost nonexistent? I assumed the place would be cleaner than the last time I visited. Like the staff cannot befriend Lysol whilst twiddling and watching Desperate Housewives of Public Access Indian Television? Evidently not, as my immediate impression upon entering the salon was that it was a bit grimier than my last visit. Not in a "I'll contract something" way, in a seedy Ke$ha "Don't use their bathroom, they R who they R" way. But alas, my belligerent requests for the 7-11 cashier to allow me to use their facilities (yeah, Dipti's *still* doesn't accept credit cards, so either bring cash or deal with the local ATM fees) fell flat, hence me walking to the back of the salon. Almost wish I had an expedition hat with the little light, not bright enough to see aged gunk, but providing enough light to figure out the scent of Glade aerosol spray they were using, Crackleberry, Purple Rain/Haze, no idea. But those bottles were everywhere, saw at least five. Uhm hi? That's not covering it up. Wandering back from the dark side, I entered the usual room with the usual cracked mini-blinds and usual containers of cootie-laced powder. Learning my lesson from before, I enjoyed a glass of wine before my service. Who am I kidding, I had a mix of Manischewitz and Franzia from a place which would usually laugh at my sort asking for old vine Zinfandel...but they saw the look of terror in my eyes. They knew the scalping was coming, not Yoda but Wookie. They obliged. I gulped two glasses and wandered down the street. After sitting on the chair, I begin poking through her implements of torture before she arrives. Tested the temperature of the wax. Whacked the cootie powder to at least pretend fresh product would grace my lady bits. Saw those enormous muslin strips. Repeatedly chanted FML upon realizing cheap vino didn't do the trick, as the Marquis de Sade was about to make an appearance. In she walks. Pleasantries are exchanged. I ask if she remembers me. But of course. I apologize for it seeing her in so long, and offer a warning that I hadn't been waxed in a while. She looks at my nether region and makes an understanding yet subtly condescending huff. She asks if I want the stomach done as well. No. Please give the the Trump special, bare at the bottom but with a few straggling hairs flopping around. I realized too late that she was attempting low-level psych conditioning to prepare me for the tri-pass. Yeah, her tactics don't change. Two tufts or fields of gold, three wax applications and you're done. The first part basically obliterated any mild intoxication I may have been enjoying. Remembering my charm school training, I went limp. In the face of sheer adversity, go limp, go home, or fight like a girl. Half of a scalped Tribble...those guys can go ape really quickly. This was when I realized she was a double dipper. The second part of the scalping basically didn't resonate, as I was then cringing at whatever rock-and-roll-hootchie-koo had found the wax before I did. I know I'm Summer's Eve, Strawberry Fields, 'Scuse Me, thank you for not kissing the sky. I'm good. But given that I have seen what I cannot ignore? I will not return. Then the third part. Don't you love when you're losing several layers of hair and skin, and then the process is aborted because even Elizabeth Bathory realizes that to pull that entire swath of cloth off in one piece will remove several things she cannot claim on a tax return? Yeah, I don't. Because then there's the pause. The re-rip. The pause. The bearing down. Seriously, am I a sumo? The grunt. The so-called apologetic look. The attempted tri-rip. Then the removal. "Ooh...you're so good. You are good." Because I didn't roundhouse you? Thanks, 50 Shades of Fur. Complimenting me on my ability to sustain ungodly amounts of pain speaks more to my bartender and silent chants of personally-reworked 80s songs than your waxing ability. I've been going to Dipti's for nine years now. I can't believe it's been that long! I even love her and her girls so much that I've made special trips from St. Louis to Chicago just for her threading and waxing. Dipti has spoiled me so much that a) I avoid those threading booths at the malls like the plague and b) if it was an emergency and I couldn't get to Dipti's, I still would never consider anyone BUT an Indian auntie to do my brows. $7 for eyebrow threading. $10 for eyebrow threading and lip wax. $10 for armpit waxing $15? for bikini waxing $35 for Brazilian waxing $15 for a mini facial to get out those pesky blackheads over your nose I usually get my eyebrows threaded and my lip and armpits waxed. Out the door for $20 + $4 tip. How crazy is that?? Where else can you do that? There are some other Indian salons on Devon that still will do the eyebrows for $5, but Dipti does such an amazing job that I have not even considered looking at other options. It's a bit disconcerting at first because you walk in and if it's not busy, they'll direct you to where they want you (wax first? thread first? I'm still always confused, but that's nothing new.). If it's busy, you take a number from the wall, but if you want waxing and threading done, let one of the girls know because they usually like to get the waxing done before you get threaded. There's some rhythm to all of it, but I'm just oblivious. I've never had any reaction to the threading nor have I ever had any pain or scratches with it. Sometimes, when you get threaded, they want you to hold down your eyelid, but it all depends here. Sometimes Dipti will ask you to hold it down. Sometimes she uses some wax. Sometimes she trims your eyebrows. Sometimes she has the phone to her ear talking away while she's doing it. Sometimes she'll even pause while she takes a look at whatever the Bollywood station is doing at that moment. Just roll with it. Those brows will be worth it. I've seen patrons ask her to fix a stray or two afterwards, which she always does without hesitation. I never had defined arches until Dipti. The waxing rooms are not the cleanest, but if you're worried, bring a towel. As long as they don't double dip or reuse someone else's muslin strip, I'm okay with it. The armpit wax hurt the very first time, but It's nothing to me now. I haven't braved her doing the Brazilian yet because a) I love Aveda's cooling gel so I won't let anyone but an Aveda spa do my Brazilians and b) a Brazilian in 10 minutes kinda scares me because that's about how long it takes to get my armpits done! There is almost always a wait on the weekends so go during the weekdays if you can. They're open Mondays through Saturdays, 11AM - 630 PM, closed Sundays. She's a very sweet lady and FAST AS LIGHTENING and YOU ARE LEFT COMPLETELY BARE! She is very thorough, far better than Nordstrom. The second best part is it's $35 CASH (Don't forget! CASH ONLY!!! Pros: - FAST. Less than 5 minutes to get my eyebrows threaded. And when I was there on a Monday afternoon, there was no wait. - CHEAP. Only $7 + tip for an eyebrow threading. - QUALITY. Well, the quality might have only been ok. I have only gotten my eyebrows threaded once before, but I don't remember there being a few leftover stray hairs in the middle. It's not a super huge deal - overall my eyebrows looked amazing in the end. CONS: - The woman was on her cell phone when I walked in, and she stayed on her phone even with the next customer. Judging from the reviews, it seems that her phone is just another appendage of her body. I've been going here for years now. Each time I come, whether it's at 11am when it opens or in the middle of a random day -- there is always a line. Though Dipti is fast as hell when it comes to threading your eyebrows -- she is a GOD at it. She'll give you an arch if you don't have one, clean you up and make you feel like a new woman! Her price went up from $5 to $7 this year -- but no matter, I will pay her whatever she wants. Only she can touch my eyebrows. I've gone to other places and have paid for it by looking like an idiot. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE DIPTI!!! She is the only I trust doing my eyebrows! I've been going to her for 8 or 9 years now. I used to live in the Southside and going to see her was a trek and the wait time is crazy, especially on the weekends, but it was always well worth it. I've tried to find someone else to do my eyebrows closer to where I lived, but it was an epic fail. So, I made the trip every 3 weeks to see her. Thank goodness, I live about 10-15 mins. away from her now. There's a long wait for her almost all of the time, except during the week in the middle of the day. She does tend to rush when she's busy, but I always check my brows before I leave to make sure it's clean...and I tell her if there are any small hairs she didn't get. I've gone to salons all over the city for eyebrows and no one can seem to get the same shape---great arch and she trims them perfectly. This is not a glamorous spa experience. But is hair removal really all that glamorous? If you go on a Saturday mid-afternoon or a Friday evening after work, you'll be waiting. Eyebrows are $7, if you want your lip waxed as well it's $10. You can get a bikini wax done for $15 and a full Brazilian for $35. Dipti also offers a mini-facial that removes blackheads and blemishes for $15. Many years ago I went to an upscale spa to get my eyebrows waxed and the woman who did my eyebrows recommended I go to Dipti's. I don't know why, but the woman said that's where she goes. I went the following month and was pleased by the results. Dipti always does a beautiful job shaping my eyebrows. Super inexpensive. There is zero decor. Nothing fancy, but if you want perfect eyebrows go to Dipti. She is also very sweet. Don't go on Saturday. The line is long. i feel like a dirty, dirty cheater. i've been going to the same place for threading for over eight years and something inside me chose to cave in to friends (and yelp reviews) and give dipti's a go. i happened to go on a random wednesday around 4pm, and it was a desert. in and out in - no joke - seven minutes. wham, bam, thank you ma'am. not only was she mindboggling fast, but you'd expect some errors with that kind of rushed nature, and yet..there weren't any. the only thing that really turned me off (and definitely warranted the removal of a star) was the fact that the phone rang as she was in the middle of threading my left eyebrow. this is normal in any successful threading salon, and by no means do i mind when the phone is answered. however, she chatted away as quickly as she threaded, and this led to some rogue spit flying onto my face. not a great feeling. $10 gets you thick, luscious eyebrows and a clean and smooth upper lip. that's $2 more than the place i used to go to, but the quality is superb. i hate to say it, but i think i've found my new threading home. make sure you bring cash because that's all they accept! read more

Based on the great things I heard about Dipti's amazing talent for eyebrow threading, I headed on over there today. I was with my friend who was a little skeptical about the greatness of eyebrow threading, "what makes it so much better than waxing?" she wanted to know. I digress...... It's a small no-frills kind of place, it's just two salon chairs and a row of chairs around the perimeter where people are waiting their turn for Dipti, who keeps going back and forth between each passing customer in the two seats. I only waited 5 minutes, and once I was in the chair it took maybe 2 or 3 minutes, and she was done. When I looked up, my friend's jaw dropped and said my eyebrows have never looked better, and in such a short amount of time! The only people I've ever seen upset are those that have tried to pluck themselves in between going to Dipti. She can't help if someone's eyebrows are misshaped when they walk through the door. I went to Dipti's many years ago when she was futher West on Touhy and she charged only $5. I stopped going there because it seemed that everyone caught on to her and the wait usually got ugly. Then I realized that she hurried through the threading and I ended up with some strays. I was in DESPERATE need today and Juli on Western & Lunt is closed on Mondays. Since there was not a crowd at Dipti's I said "what the heck" She finished up on one girl and moved to the next and the girl on the floor cutting muslin (sp) strips directed me to the chair. I know threading isn't fun but she really made the experience much worse. She was very rough and so was her thread! She's very impersonal (except to the woman who walked in while she was doing me) she finished up with me, gave me a tissue and moved over to the next girl. I guess I shoudn't expect much for what she charges. The last time I was there was probably 5 years ago. I don't plan on going back anytime soon and I wouldn't recommend her either. read more

definately returning!! i have been to soooo many different places to get an eyebrow and face wax. I've gone as far as paying 80$ for getting my eyebrows done and they did not look pretty.... I went into Dipti's a little hesistant and skeptical after reading all these yelp reviews. Dipti is AMAZING i only trust her with my eyebrows! I do not get my eyebrows done anywhere else! and as for my face, it was done so fast that I actually did not feel a thing! Which is amazing! I was terrified! She does things so fast, your body does not have time to process and keep up with it! I've actually done a LOT of research into this and let me just say, when someone can do that, they are hands down a pro! It's very similar when you go to the doctor and you get a shot from two different doctors. One's you dont feel because it is done quickly and the other is long or you ask them to slow down and then it starts to hurt! all in all: fast cheap and SOOOOOOOOO worth it! Just got my eyebrows done. Didn't hurt but she barely took a minute. She didn't look at the eyebrow shapes and it's obvious. I now have two completely different eyebrow shapes. I've never ever had them come out so differently. They don't give you a salve to put on your eyebrows after nor do they brush off the hair off your face. (Which was a lot considering she took over half my eyebrows off). Only come here if you have eyebrows w a few stray hairs and you want to pay $7 for them. Many other places on Devon do it for $5. Update: despite my Initial freak out. I ended up liking my newer thinner eyebrows. So I'm updating this review. It would be nicer if they were just a little slower and caring to their customers. read more

So I have traveled all over Chicago. i have gone to the modest salons in Bridgeview. I have visited Sonia in UIC/Taylor. I have had them waxed at varying nail salons and expensive behind upscale salons, but no one and I mean no one touches Dipti. Because I got out of an appointment early, I decided to take trip up north to get my overgrown brows into shape. I had an unfortunate waxing incident ( I looked like Tammy Faye!). I missed Dipti. She is unsentimental. The place is Spartan. I left there feeling like I could be covered from head to foot and stop a man in his tracks with my eyes. I really like this place for eyebrows, and I'm particularly a fan of their mini facial. I love *love* ayurvedic homemade Indian beauty masks, and theirs in no exception. It doesn't have turmeric, which a lot of Indian masks do, which I think is a good thing since turmeric can make you look a little yellow. I've finished their $15 mini facials with better looking skin than I get from my $100+ dermalogica facials at nicer salons. That's really saying something. Problem 1: Dipti is a sweetheart, but she's, um, a bit LOUD. As in, you might be standing six feet away from her and be startled by her volume. And so it's particularly distressing when she's leaning over you, threading your eyebrows, and she's talking to her friends across the room. I admit that I've winced and cowered many times from her because of this, and this made for an eyebrow threading that was needlessly more stressful than it had to be. Problem 2: This place isn't glamorous, which is fine. But it's isn't clean, either, which I don't understand. the ladies here seem to have a lot of down time between clients, and a little work could really make this place more welcoming. I don't need nice things, but I see absolutely no reason to keep the place so messy. My experience here would really be improved ten fold if it were cleaner. I wish she was closer but it's worth the travel. I've gone to other places closer to my home but they all turned out horribly or took double the time and pain. Dipti is quick, accurate, and makes my eyebrows look great. She keeps the shape of my brows and will be honest with what she thinks looks best. If you've never had your brows threaded, go to Dipti and you'll know the real thing. It's fairly painless and she'll walk you through it.
