I've come here twice on my lunch break and both experiences have been absolutely wonderful. Each staff member I dealt with were friendly, helpful and efficient at their jobs. I tried their viet bomb latte the first time and it was PHENOMENAL. The 2nd time, I ordered one of their popular milk tea products. I can't remember the name of it, but it contains brown sugar. SO GOOD!!! I'm not a huge boba person, but that drink was delicious. During my last visit, I signed up for their rewards program as I can already tell I will be replacing my lunch starbucks/minuti with one of their beverages when I splurge. The first time I came here I got so excited, that my little finger, and other parts, swelled. "Grew Ice & Pinkies." I'm not gonna tell you how many times I've been aroused by these desserts, but it's more than a "Few Ice & Wink Winks." It's so good that it gets my girl very very excited in her cute designer underwear. "Goo Ice & Spanx." They are the absolute gold standard for this form of dessert. They also both have late opening hours and extremely friendly employees. There's always a long line, which makes me expose myself out of boredom, and end up at the police station. "Queue Ice & Precincts." The long lines are probably because the employees talk too much. The servers are always like "I'm from China HBU?" "I'm 23 HBU?" "I'm a student at Rice HBU?" Then they give me little souvenirs from their homelands. I'm considering renaming it "HBU Ice & Trinkets." They have an eclectic extensive menu which features lots of crazy drinks, but I highly recommend staying away from those drinks, because they are really nowhere near as good as some of the bubble tea places around here (Cha Boba in League City being the best, and Tapioca Place, Sharetea, and so many others, being good too), whereas the incredible snow ice shaved ice desserts are both enormous and great value for money. Not to mention absolutely delicious. Every flavor I've had has been great, especially the lychee and the incredibly wonderful salted caramel flavour. The Mango is also great with all the mango toppings. Anyway so one time I ordered here and while waiting, Travolta and Nic Cage came sliding into the room, in slow motion, shooting various semi-automatic weapons at each other, but failing to hit each other (or anything). They must have been firing blanks (your boyfriend knows all about that, lucky for you, your Daddy didn't). So anyway, for that night only, it was "John Woo Ice & Blanks." Make sure you make sure you try Mochi as a topping and some salted caramel drizzle. The sizes are really enormous so watch out. Speaking of enormous, I have to go, I have a play date. I also adore the Flan topping. And any of the puddings. Puddings work much better as shaved ice toppings, rather than bubble tea sinkers. I gained 10 lbs since coming here regularly. I rue the day I ever discovered it. My GF doesn't even fit into her VS Pink outfits anymore. I might rename it "Rue Ice & Pinks." I'll let the adult star finish this review, since for once she doesn't have her mouth full. (Of Nu Ice, there was no other implication there get your mind out of the Uptown gutter). "Nu Ice is so good! I love the lychee ice with lychee drizzle and mochi topping! The small portion gives you a generous serving of shaved ice. I can't speak to the drinks. The shaved ice is amazing!" The first time I visited Nu Ice was a after a UYE event and I was like #wow and ended up becoming a believer. This time around, was another remarkable experience and their service standards/quality have remained consistent. I don't know if it's because I live in an Asian enclave or what. There are dozens of boba places within a couple blocks in my small suburban town on the outskirts of Los Angeles County. We came to Houston to visit NASA and decided to stop by Nu Ice. To be honest, I don't even know what I ordered, only that a friend and I each picked a selection from the Premium category. The bartender recommended the base sugar level, saying that it wouldn't be too sweet -- but that's exactly what it was. I couldn't taste anything besides the sugar. The tea itself was barely recognizable. I only remembered one sip near the bottom perhaps due to the cream being not entirely mixed that I tasted anything resembling tea. The boba was good, but not exceptional. It's not firm enough, a bit on the soft side, though to give it credit there were no dry or hard patches. Unfortunately, this is the only boba place I've tried in Texas, so I have no point of reference there. But in the overall scheme of things, I felt like this was... meh. There was only one guy behind the counter taking the orders and making everything, so there was a slight wait. He told me I had to present it when he was ringing me up so it was too late. I asked him why the offer was for a free topping when the toppings were already free. Came here on a Sunday night to get some snow ice. The order process was fairly easy and the guy there made it pretty quickly. It was about $7 for mine with the added toppings. The staff is really nice and they have games on hand if you're board (like janga, uno, etc.). The shaved ice is seriously some of the best I've had. The mountain is perfect to share between two people and two toppings is enough (you get an extra free one if you checkin! So make sure to do that). My recommendations are for the lychee, almond, or vanilla but they are all quite delicious. The toppings that I think are the best are the poppers and the lychee jelly. You can't beat those! Come by if you are hot and sweaty from that nasty Houston weather and need some downtime to chill. read more

I got the vanilla ice based on some reviews on here and I wasn't a fan at all. They are super skimpy with their condensed milk which Is the only reason I would spend over $7 for ice. The flavors for me were just not enjoyable. For one, the taste of the vanilla ice was very faint..almost like slightly sweet plain milk, the Nutella tasted like normal chocolate syrup but ws bitter, the unripe strawberries were sour, and the condensed milk tht cld hv helped it taste better was barely drizzled. I've had great shaved ice before. I don't like the to go portion either. As much as I try to not rate small businesses below 3 stars, I just didn't enjoy what I had. read more

Ok. Let's go with the flow. I was here last night after following my Yelper friends at a nearby UYE (unofficial Yelp event). Cherry always recommends Nu Ice after dinner, whether it's in Chinatown or near Galleria. I was just happy to redeem my check-in offer. I remember I came here a few years ago to find a place for meet up. I always like sister stores being away from Chinatown, skipping the Bellaire congestion and parking difficulties. But it was so crowded for a planned UYE. However, I don't mind coming for an after-hour event, such as last night. That way, I get to control the time and space. Oh, my other love is the outdoor seating. I felt like it was a little too much hype on the snowflake style ice in Chinatown. But Nu Ice sets the standard. I believe this was my first time trying. Reading my friend's Yelp review I had to go with the Carmel Sea Salt (hill size- that's small but still rather large $5). I had almonds and oh so yummy honey boba, topped it off with caramel. Heaven I tell you heaven! They have several flavors of shaved ice to choose from, all are listed on the board when you walk in and there is also a form to fill out where you check off exactly what you want. So unique and so cool to watch the machine do its thing! It shaves off a frozen chunk of what is basically a sweet milky block. We also had a vanilla bean milk tea which was sweet and perfect with a hint of cappuccino. Loved the tapioca. And a honey green tea with tapioca which my husband enjoyed. So this was something different. Seems like they overly freeze ice cream in round blocks, stick it in a machine which spits out layers of the ice cream like a deli meat slicer. You get a huge mound of ice cream that stays pretty frozen in the middle. I can't saw that the ice cream flavor is anything special though. I think it was only good with the flavored syrup and toppings they put on top. The good thing is the little bit of topping that are on the mound of ice cream make it pretty darn good. I can't say this is drop dead amazing or anything, but definitely different and worth a try if you want something cool to try in the usual 100 degree Houston heat. What I DO NOT suggest is going on a Friday around 8. Parking was a complete disaster and you can only imagine the people who are driving around. Doesn't seem like half of them have a drivers license or care that they are about to hit your car. Definitely worth a try but I don't know if I'll be back. Came here with some friends last week. This was my first time at this location--I had been to the Chinatown one several times in the past. I got the mountain (comes with 2 toppings and 1 drizzle). I checked melon, which didn't have a * indicated an additional charge like some other flavors, but I was charged an extra $0.75. Not a big deal--still good value, in my opinion. I got boba and mochi as my sides, which were very filling, and they gave me plenty! I also tried the mango drizzle for the first time (I usually get condensed milk) and was pleasantly surprised. I felt that it went especially well with the melon ice. My friends got hill sizes, and one was significantly smaller than the other, but they still enjoyed their shaved ice as well. We did have to wait a while for our orders because there was only one employee working and a huge crowd came in, but had a great experience here nonetheless. read more
