DO NOT ORDER The Beef Noodle Soup! It's very salty and high blood pressure is no joke. I couldn't even bare to finish the dish and wasted a fortune in Chinatown standards. The Pork Ramen is decent though, their most popular dish, nice sizable portion, add siracha! The Green Tea Snowflake Ice Thing with mochi balls and strawberries. The mochi balls were very sweet and the strawberries were doused in syrup. I'm not really sure why anyone would add strawberry syrup to strawberries, beats me. I love their shaved ice dessert BUT their drinks are wayyyy too sweet. I tried their milk tea and strawberry smoothie, it was super sweet, my friend and I trashed the whole drink when we walk out of the door. Pass by this place multiple times. Looks pretty good. Saw on the window half and half drink reminds me half & half in Los Angeles with superb Boba. Order it and it feel like ice sugar water caramel , pudding throw into it without any thought. Too sweet and was not mixed correctly to get the flavor spread evenly. I understand the pudding and boba stays on the bottom. The boba was terrible. Not chewy and it is hard in the center. Proper texture of Boba should be soft on the outside and chewy on the center with a bit of sweetness to it with luke warm temp. Seems like everything was put together in a hurry. I see two young girls working madly behind the counter and they are very nice. Maybe should have tried the flavored shaved ice. Not a good boba place. read more

Had received a reply from this establishment recently but on facebook rather than here. I was given a lengthy reply of about 4 paragraphs lecturing me about a seating system common in their line of commerce. They had compared it to starbucks and chipotle(LMAO). Problem is, they did not even understand what my review was about and were very defensive. They even went to imply that I wanted them to kick out other customers from their seats when in fact and was clearly explained in my first comment that the problem was other customers taking seats before actually ordering. I believe as a business, you should especially look after your customers who ACTUALLY PAID FIRST and try to provide them with ammenities intended for you PAYING CUSTOMERS. It only makes sense to have the customer who paid for services sit first, ahead of those that did not. read more

This is my favorite place to get dessert in Chinatown! If it's your first time here then you should definitely try their Nu ice. It can get packed and there will be a line at night, but try your best to stalk a leaving party and grab their seat/table right when they leave. For their Nu ice, you just grab a little clipboard at the cashier and check off how you want to customize your shaved ice. Their drinks are pretty awesome, too. If you like to stick to the basics, I suggest getting the green milk tea with honey boba. It's really good and creamy, I love that it's not too sweet like some other places make it. The green tea smoothie is also a favorite of mine. As for the food, you're probably better off at other nearby cafes. The food is alright. Awesome fluff ice. Must try it yourself to experience the best tasting ice. Nothing artificial about these place. Coming from L.A , the fluff ice usually tasted powdery at other ice shop. Here ,you can actually taste the fruits in their ice. I recommend the lychee and rum.. I also recommend their green tea, a must try. It's terrible here. I thought the no tipping thing was great but I guess not. It just makes the employees catty. I tried to order the ramen but was told they were out. I don't really understand how you can advertise something on your store window and then not stock enough ingredients to make sure everything is in stock and ready to be ordered. Just as I took a look at the menu to order something else, the cashier skipped over me and started serving someone else. Really now? I didn't even take that long, 30 seconds at most. I decided not to order hot food and order the famed snowflake ice that the reviewers here were raving about. My friend and I decided to go with coffee but they gave us green tea instead. We weren't that picky but maybe they should turn down the Michael Jackson a bit so that our orders can come out correct. It tasted bland. I couldn't taste any green tea flavors. I love this place! its always been a favorite Houston Gem of mine, I use to work down the street from Chinatown, so I don't go as often as I use to, but after last nights visit ill def go more often. I tried the "Nu Nu Pudding Tea"??? I think that was the name. it LITERALLY tasted like soft caramel flavored snowflakes, with Egg pudding, caramel drizzle, and Honey Flavored Tapioca. Best Boba tea drink ive ever had (other than Thai Tea from Pho Bamboo in Katy Tx). Anyways it was delicious and only $3.50-4. Only reason I cannot give a 5 is because I went at 10 pm.. it was a small crowd, nobody in line before me... I ordered 2 drinks and after I ordered the lady making the desserts began working on peoples orders who ordered after me (yes I was watching) which resulted in a 10 min wait. That's not bad at all, and I didn't mind waiting. There were only 2 people working at the time, so they were doing the best that they could, which I applaud. definitely will start coming back on a monthly basis. read more

Ah I have mixed feelings about this place. I was so excited to try it because everyone tells me their ice is just much much better than juice box. We got to watch them place the block of ice into their machine and see it being layered into these thin flaky squares. That was pretty cool!!! We got the green tea ice with mango and strawberry. The texture of the ice was VERY interesting. It was fluffy, almost like I am literally eating snowflakes! It would've been better if the green tea flavor was more intense, I felt that it tasted a bit watery. They were also very stingy with the amount of fruit that they gave us. I feel like I had more fruit in the fruit green tea glass I got at juice box, which is pretty sad. However, I am still very intrigued with the variety of ice flavors this place has so I am willing to give it another chance and try a different one next time (and perhaps add condensed milk as well). if there's anything that can beat juice box next door, it's the strawberry snowflake ice here. :] it's ice+condensed milk shaved into layers and layers of paper-thin ribbons. they have a bunch of other flavors/fruits you can get it with too. it's definitely unique and a change if you're not feeling like the usual shaved ice or boba for dessert. read more

I've been to Nu Cafe a couple of times and I've always had a pretty decent experience. The shaved ice and drinks are well made. However, I've most recently encountered a terrible experience with one employee. I usually don't have issues with employees there as most are very positive and very willing to cooperate with customers. I believe her name was Catherine because that's how the other employees referred to her. I ordered my drink: Thai Tea with boba and paid with my debit card. My bank always sends me notifications after my card has been charged and I patiently waited for my drink. After about 10 mins, I see that all the customers after me had already received their drink. So I ask her for an update on my drink and she said that she didn't receive anything. Baffled, I pull up my bank statement to ensure that Nu Cafe had charged me for my order. I show it to her, and she continues to give me an attitude, telling me that she never got my order down. It was quite funny because she was the one that was working the register. After about a couple of minutes of her refusing to make my drink, another employee apologized to me and made my order. I honestly would've given Nu a better rating if I hadn't run into this particular employee. read more

Me and my fiancé came here after having dinner at a Malaysian restaurant in the same Shopping strip. I ordered the green tea flavored ice. I topped it with condensed milk, strawberries, and red bean. It was subtle, light, and had a great green tea flavor. Not too sweet so perfect for after dinner. He had the vanilla and topped it with honey boba and condensed milk. His opinion was it was flavorful, gummy, and sweet. Although it was past 11pm, the place was packed. The cashier seemed frustrated but the guy serving the ice was very nice. The place has a vibrant atmosphere which I liked and I would definitely recommend to give it a try at least once! It's kind of like an Asian froyo spot. read more
