We just completed a solar and battery installation. We talked to a few providers before settling on NRG, They were efficient to deal with, gave good explanations and made getting the project started low stress. They explained every step of the process, what was coming next, and were responsive when we had questions about where things were. I would say the overall installation went very smoothly. They came out and did a very thorough survey ahead of time and worked out where everything would get installed. We had a moderately complicated battery location but they handled it smoothly. No problems with permitting and the actual installation was mostly done day one. We had as I mentioned a complicated battery location that required running a longer connector and they finished that off mostly on the second day. At that point is was running - I only noticed because our power usage from PGE dropped to zero even though we hadn't technically finished inspection. We are done with inspection now - no hiccups and the system has been running as advertised. I would happily do another project with NRG or recommend. The installation team was professional and easy to work with. They apologized for it taking more than a day mainly due to our roof - you can see from pictures that they had to be extra careful. I was still impressed how fast they got the panels on the roof. Wish I had done this years ago.. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities. This is the single worst contractor/company I've ever had the displeasure of working with. My story is below and I encourage everyone to not trust a lick of what they promise. If you still decide to go with them then make sure any promises are in your contract. You can also submit complains on the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) for contractor licensing and workmanship, and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) if its already too late and you're already having problems with them. I started the solar installation process last June and signed my contract in July. My biggest concern from the very beginning was getting the system installed before year-end so I could qualify for the solar tax credit before it expired. During the sales process, I brought this up multiple times and was repeatedly assured there was "plenty of time" and that I had nothing to worry about. Once I signed the contract, communication essentially disappeared. It took months just to get permits approved. At first I tried to be understanding, but by October, after permits were finally issued, my installation manager, Alberto, became almost impossible to get ahold of. Every other week I had to chase someone down just to ask for updates, and every time I was told the same thing: "We still have enough time." Then in December I got the email I had been expecting for weeks -- they were not going to complete the installation before the deadline. Naturally, I wanted to cancel the contract at that point. Their response was that they would keep the money I had already paid for permitting if I canceled. After I posted a review about my experience, Yariv, their Operations Manager, contacted me the very next day saying the CEO was immensely sorry and asking if I would remove the review in exchange for helping resolve the situation. I should have trusted my gut and walked away. Instead, they re-engaged the sales team and convinced me they were giving me a special deal by restructuring everything into a lease-to-own agreement that would supposedly still allow me to receive the equivalent 30% savings. I later learned this is something many solar companies already offer because leased systems still qualify for those incentives. They also gave me a battery with half the capacity because they claimed it worked with the deal. I should have looked into this more and not agreed because it made no sense for my needs with 2 EVs at home which we commute with. Regardless, against my better judgement I gave them another chance because I was promised my project would now be treated as a priority after such a long delay. That turned out to be completely false. Today is 5/14, and my system was only finished on 5/8. The workmanship was terrible. They initially left an unpatched hole in my wall, and the exterior caulking literally looks like it was done by a child. They did come back to fix the wall but I as an amateur could have done a better job. However, the worst issue is that the gateway they installed does not even work, so I currently have no idea whether the system is operational at all. I've reached out repeatedly to Yariv, Bill Russell, and Alberto Polanco and have received no help. They collected the final payment on 5/8 while claiming the project was complete and that the activation team would contact me shortly afterward. That never happened. Once they got the final invoice paid, communication stopped yet again. For anyone still reading: please do yourself a favor and do not choose this company. That salesman is lying through his teeth. You will hear nothing after you sign. Definitely nothing after you pay the first invoice. I work with contractors regularly, and the lack of organization, accountability, and professionalism here is honestly shocking. Maybe this company was good years ago, but that is clearly no longer the case. They are taking on far more projects than they can handle and failing to deliver on what they promise. The process feels designed so that each department only cares until their invoice is paid: Permitting Installation Activation. The moment you pay, that team disappears and you are passed to the next group with no ownership or follow-through. The project manager is supposedly there to coordinate everything, but in my experience neither Bill nor Yariv provided meaningful help, and I would not expect your experience to be any different. read more

This was the worst experience i have had working with a contractor as a homeowner. There were problems from the start, and yet I stuck with NRG because i wanted to get finished in time for the expiring federal tax credit. This was a big mistake. Installation team: After the initial work, they left the house having disconnected wiring to lighting for a stairway in my home. Even though this was a safety hazard, they took more than a week to even return to take a look at it. They failed fire inspection FIVE TIMES. They were a constant source of frustration and required coming to my house at least four times as often as would have been necessary, due entirely to incompetence. Installation Coordinator: I worked with two. The first did absolutely nothing, for months, then quit. This cost me thousands of dollars in missing the deadline for the federal tax credit. The second, while he attempted to do his job, was totally ineffective at getting the installation team move faster, to fix their mistakes, or to do things correctly the first time. I previously had a positive experience with NRG Clean Power in 2024 when they successfully installed solar panels at my home in Stockton, CA. That is why I returned to them in 2025 to expand the system by doubling the panels and batteries to reduce PG&E costs and work toward living off-grid. The sales, accounting, and planning departments handled their roles promptly and professionally. The project proceeded smoothly until it was assigned to the project coordination team on December 1, 2025 (first email from Jared Smith), after which progress stopped entirely. The system remains non-operational more than 30 days past the contracted completion date of January 31, 2026. I have paid 80% ($42,481.34) of the $53,601.68 contract, but NRG has not completed the installation, submitted for final inspection (City of Stockton Permit: SA20251120-150-1113-1784-A), or applied for PG&E Permission to Operate (PTO). Key issues include: No code-required heat detector was ever shipped or provided (confirmed by subcontractor on February 18, 2026; technician could not install it). Mounting rails and construction debris have remained abandoned on my property since my initial complaint on January 27, 2026 (after installers left unfinished on January 24), creating a trip hazard and potential liability. On February 18, 2026, a subcontractor performed minor work (electrical box, stickers, some part collection after my in-person complaint) and took photos for HDM Renewable Finance (PPA financier), but was not authorized or equipped to finish the install or remove rails. No response to my outreach attempts on February 26 and March 5, 2026 -- total communication blackout for over 19 days. PG&E Status: PG&E confirmed on March 9, 2026 (Project #132 529 249) that NRG submitted the interconnection application in December 2025, but it remains pending solely due to lack of final building permit approval from the City of Stockton. The City permit is still issued/open with no final inspection requested. I am incurring ongoing PG&E costs due to the delay and non-production. I am withholding the final $10,620.34 until completion. I have filed formal complaints: CSLB solar complaint for abandonment under B&P §7107 CSLB #NA2025014567 BBB complaint submitted March 9, 2026. I request NRG: Remove all abandoned materials (rails/debris). Supply and install the required heat detector. Commission/turn on the system and submit for inspection/PTO. Overall you get a deal on the system per kw and they eventually will get it done to standard and to your satisfaction but it will be to your advantage to know what you're doing, read lots about other peoples experiences to know about pitfalls and just know more about all the details so that things don't get missed or cause delays. Generally speaking they have experience and respond eventually but you will need to be more involved than on a typical project. I started the process in February before the announcements that the tax cuts would expire. I will grant that they had a particularly challenging year last year with the expiration of the tax cuts and the rush to install. At the same time I think that there were still unnecessary frustrations. Started permitting April 10th did not receive the permit until Oct 2nd. All along the way I was prompting the permitting team and my city's permitting office asking what is going on. I agree my city is especially difficult but also the permitting team could have been more proactive and detail oriented. Installation phase started end of October was scheduled for November and not completed until December 31st. Additional fixes were done until permitting finally passed in mid February. Permit to operate is pending. It was a long road, there were mitigating circumstances which is why I have revised the review but I think all prospective customers should know that they may need to be more on top of things than usual. And I hope that their processes improve such that things are smoother for them when there is not as much demand/time crunch. read more

I'm writing this update to say that NRG really turned things around, which feels bittersweet, because now I can see how great this company can be when everything works as it should. After my initial review, NRG really stepped up. Nicole was assigned to my project, and she went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. My solar panels are now fully operational, their response time has been excellent, and they even compensated me for some of the downtime I experienced. They explained that many of the earlier issues stemmed from challenges with the local utility (I'm in San Antonio, TX). If that's the case, I hope my experience was an isolated one. I can't say for sure how much of the blame lies with NRG versus the utility, but given how responsive and professional they've been recently, I'm comfortable extending them the benefit of the doubt (which says a lot, considering how frustrated I was before). It's hard to know which version of NRG represents the "real" experience, but I can say they made every effort to make things right. They stayed with the project until it was done. Given how many solar companies have gone out of business in recent years, leaving customers mid-install with no recourse and no way to get their funds back, I take NRG's follow-through at the end as a strong sign of their long-term commitment to staying around. read more

Alright, so this is probably the worst company I have ever worked with. I had my inverter on my current system go out. I figured, I need to expand the system anyway, I guess its time to get another system. This is in February. I finalized with them at the end of march. Sales person quoted me 650 for the inverter. Alright, no worries. I get an email in june saying that they would start the system in July. I got confused on the acceptance of the parts and labor as they were two separate items. No worries. A week out. They come out they start install, I have one side of the house that has an entrance to an inlaw, I wanted it on the opposite side or whatever could be fit inside the garage. They were totally cool with it. Great. They forgot to put on the inverter, but alright. Then they had the inspection, they failed, they came back out and did some more work but this is now in august. I ask them about my inverter too, they say they have nothing about that in their notes. Okay, so I contact my sales person and tell them I want the inverter. He asked why it took me so long to get into contact with him. Okay, not the most professional thing, They have the inspector come out again, they fail again. Another couple of weeks, I have called once and no response. Then, they tell me they have to re-permit. Getting frustrating now. I started this process in march and it is the beginning of september. Now they are ignoring my emails, call again, no response. Then, they just show up without me being available. So, I call in sick to work. They do some work, and then they leave. Okay, they come the next day unannounced. I have to let them do the work while I am at work this time but hey, at least they are doing something. They do this same thing again the next week and I take another day from work. I ask each time about the inverter, they say they don't have any notes about it. HOW!? Literally every single interaction I have had I have asked for this! They then send an email saying that they are waiting for PGE. A couple weeks later I get a lien notice from them. I email them and they say, thats not us, you can ignore that. Its got the letter head, the name of the person from accounting I had contacted and his signature, with return service to the address they have for billing, but yeah, I guess its not them. Then, nothing. I get a thing about PGE needing a change. And now it is december 18 as I write this, no response, no movement, nothing. I have gotten another electrician to replace the inverter, but at this point, this process that STARTED IN MARCH may not be eligible for the tax credit because of this. I am out 3000 on my true up to date(two electric cars) because they just jerked me around with the inverter. The warranty was better than most the other companies, but they were mid of the pack for quotes I got. The last company I had install my system was done in 3 weeks. From date of signing, to fully operational 5 weeks. Sadly, they went out of business. So, I was aiming for a company that looked like they would be around and I chose the one that I THOUGHT had the best reviews. But I don't know if they pad the reviews or what, but my experience is the worst I have had with a contractor in the last 15 years. Tl;dr We signed in march, they delayed, then went quite and failed inspection twice. Had to repermit, couldn't get the interlink with PGE. And is now completely silent and won't respond to me as of todays date 12/18. I am risking not getting the tax credit with how slow they are moving on this. read more

Contract signed June of 2025. It's now March of 2026. I have no approved city inspection (failed in December), no heat detectors installed, no EV charger installed that was included in our contract (we have two EV's and no charger), no PTO from our utility which means no net metering, I was told 2-4 months when I signed. It's now 9 months and counting. I'm generating energy but can't export so excess energy goes nowhere the economics of the system are thrown out the window. I've dealt with half a dozen employees during the process which means no one is answerable. They sub the work out to the cheapest bids - do yourself a favor and contract with reputable installers and electricians directly. Or just contact Tesla. I should add that the constant delays likely cost me $16K in tax credits which expired at year-end. read more

I had a solar system installed by NRG on my house almost exactly 4 years ago. There were some ups and downs with the installation (it was during COVID) but overall I have been happy with the system. 2 weeks ago my system suddenly stopped producing energy. I wasn't even sure if NRG was still in business (so much upheaval in the solar industry), but it turns out they are. I filled out a service ticket on the website and received a phone call from NRG representative Shelley that very day. She informed me that sadly my inverter was going to need to be replaced. The great news was that SolarEdge inverter was still under warranty and they would send a replacement. Shelley arranged an electrician to replace the dead inverter and roughly 2 weeks later, I'm back producing electricity. I'm so happy that I originally went with NRG for my solar installation. read more

12/27/23 Update: The consumption data reported by the Enphase system didn't show all of the energy usage in my house, so I called NRG and worked with Eduardo, who looked at my data and sent Joel out to figure out what was going on. Joel looked at the breaker boxes and found a better place to install consumption meters; now the data matches PG&E's billing data very closely (within 1%). I'm very happy with the support from Eduardo and Joel, and still thrilled with the performance of the system. read more

She did it again!!! Surpassed expectations! Shelley Immken is the queen of Get It Done! One of my panels wasn't working. I can monitor my panels through the app. Which if anyone is looking to get solar...this really is a must. Anyway, I sent Shelley an email, she responded promptly, contacted Enphase, determined the inverter went out and ordered a replacement. This was all within 24 hrs. Within one week it was replaced. From the initial email to the guys coming and replacing it one week. Shelley sent the same guys who were here last time. They remembered my house. They got straight to work, did their thing and were done. Let me know they were all wrapped up n left. It is so refreshing to have good customer service. I cannot give enough praise for how on top of everything Shelley is. I wish everything was this easy! It is so reassuring to know that NRG stands behind their products, work and warranties. They were timely in their responses, the work was done on time, with all permits, and it works and looks great. We had our solar system installed by Matthew Lamel and his installation team. The entire process was smooth and organized very well. Matt would send an email to let us know what was going to happen. He explained the process very well. I had downloaded the NRG Clean Power app that showed us the progress that was being made. Every stage, we had a new manager and guided us through the process. Matt also let me know when documents would be sent to us by mail and would be prepared and we kept a lookout for these documents. Matt sent us an email to inform us when the installation team was going to arrive and when the material was going to arrive. This gave us time to prepare. Everything took place on schedule. The installation team were professional, courteous, and very well informed. Even the inspection by the City went very smoothly and the inspector was very pleased. Update #2. So since my first review (1 star) I was contacted fairly quickly by NRG to try to resolve my issues. They changed my point of contact to Nicole who I can say has stellar communication and at least sounded empathetic to all the problems we had throughout our installation and thereafter. I sent her my email threads with all prior parties and they acknowledged that the quality of service we received was not up to par and ensured they were going to fix it. They sent an NRG technician out to our house to make repairs (since half our array was not functioning) and to clean up loose wires that were haphazardly installed previously. The new technician was very professional and competent and resolved all our issues. I can say I was again discouraged to hear some of the fixes he made (like connecting our array) were issues that happened during initial installation that could have easily been avoided if it was done correctly initially. The end result was that our system is now up and running and everything eventually ended in a satisfactory manner. It was just unfortunate that it had to take such a longer, more complicated route to get here. A few things to note: 1. During our early process, we actually referred NRG to a friend who did end up going with NRG and they had their solar installed with no issues (and completed well before us). So it goes to show how important it is for NRG to make sure their sub-contractors do a good job RIGHT the FIRST TIME. 2. I am disheartened that our issues did not feel like they were really heard and taken seriously until I had to escalate things with a poor Yelp review. 3. Despite that, NRG was able to turn things around by assigning Nicole to us after they became aware of our dissatisfaction. Someone give her a raise. She should be the level of service all their staff strive to. If it weren't for her prompt, honest, and HUMANE communication I don't know if our issues would have been resolved and I'm sure my next route would have been going to the BBB. NRG did provide the best prices of all the solar companies I quoted (like, it was a pretty noticeable price difference). And they did so with great equipment. But they need to clean up their PMs, get everyone on board so costumers don't get the runaround, and make sure their sub-contractors are going to offer the same level of quality they want their company's reputation to be associated with. read more

I had my system installed by NRG clean power about 4 years ago now and the system is still working flawlessly. They beat all the other competitors' price and worked with me with my quote. The whole process was smooth. Recently I had an issue with a slow roof leak and I reached out to NRG for some guidance (I'm not sure where the leak is coming from but I do know that there are panels above where the leak was). There was a slight miscommunication and frustration but big shoutout to Shelly, the manager of customer service for staying behind product and reputation. So much for their "warranty". One of the NRG-installed optimizers went bad at 3 years and they charged me $375 just to come out and inspect, despite the language in the contract saying "Contractor will fix defective equipment under warranty". Earlier this year I had the option of going with NRG to add additional panels to our solar system and decided to go with a different installer and I am so glad that I did. When I called this other company and asked them if they would come and service the optimizer, they told me that they would charge since they didn't install this system, but if they had been the installers they would have done the inspection and service free of charge. There is a reason NRG has so many bad reviews. They didn't keep to their timelines and they didn't keep their promises. I can't recommend them. read more

I didn't know there is a local NRG office. I contacted the central online office. The price, installation and speed are second to none. Before I contacted NRG, I got several quotes from large and independent companies and their quotes cant match NRG in price (one had double the price of NRG), knowledge of solar systems, completion date, warranty and payment schedules. I purchased 20 REC Alpha Pure-R 420 W panels and Powerwall 3 for a bit over $30k. The installation was done in one day. The whole project was done in 10 weeks from site survey, design, drawing approval by the owner, permit, shipping materials, installation, permit inspection, permission by the utility company. The 3-payment schedule is unthinkably great. I made the second payment after receiving all materials. The solar panels generate so much juice and I started a new project adding one additional Powerwall 3 battery which has built-in inverters. NRG provides an iPhone app with 9 stages. Each stage has a project manager with a large pool of resources. Every person in NRG is more than eager to make customers happy and satisfied. I'm extremely happy and completely satisfied with this solar project. Best of all, I'm almost off the grid and saving hundreds each month. The whole NRG team worked tirelessly for my project. Oren (the owner of NRG Clean Power) reached out to ensure that my project got back on track and that all of my issues were addressed. We went over recent supply chain issues which have greatly impacted product availability, and he was very transparent about pricing for different systems components (panels, inverters, etc), giving me the scoop on anticipated performance and technical details which distinguish the various options. For example - some microinverters are a little bit cheaper, but if they are undersized relative to the actual solar panel, you may see some performance loss through "clipping" on very sunny days. Ultimately, he helped me come up with a system that was the best bang for the buck, and covered all of my solar needs at the lowest possible cost. He even went as far as breaking down his cost structure from equipment costs, permits, and his direct labor costs for installation, helping me understand each and every line item and how they tied back to the big picture. After a couple of conversations with him, I must say that Oren is a stand-up guy and very easy and fun to talk to. A Master Electrician himself, you can tell that he really cares about running a solid business, keeping his customers and employees happy, and making sure everyone leaves with a good taste in their mouth. Be aware. Things went fairly smooth in the beginning but turned sour very quick. They took the job without checking wether they could actually do it. Gave me a quote that seemed good at first but quickly things changed. Strange charges and total silence began to follow. They appear to just contract out the work to more local groups. Had solar panels installed during the summer. Andy was responsive and helped me pick what I wanted after a few changes. For installation: It took them 4-5 trips over a span of several weeks to install everything which was a bit odd since my neighbors were getting their systems (with vivint, etc) installed in 1 day tops. Miranda was the project manager and communication was okay. The solar panel system works great and I havent had any issues with them. Present day: I reached out to Andy for a bird barrier quote and signed a change of order early September. Since then, nothing had happened and I ended up installing the bird barrier on my own (week of 10/21). I then emailed Andy back to cancel the change of order. I discovered a few broken tiles on my roof in the area of where my panels were installed...not where the panels were installed but random ones nearby. My house is new construction so there's no way it passed final inspection like that. Im upset that no one mentioned any of this to me during or after the installation. Im glad I caught this before the heavy rain showed up a few days ago. NRG needs to make this right. read more

I had been dealing with an persistent error on my Enphase app that showed a metering/reporting issue with my Solar Panel system that NRG installed, along with one panel that appeared to be under producing. I was fortunate enough to get Shelley on the line when I called into NRG for support. Shelley was extremely knowledgeable about the issues and the potential causes of them. She did diagnostics remotely, attempted a remote fix, and told me that she would call me back in a couple of days to see if the fix was effective. Nowadays, I have little faith when I am told that I would receive a call back for service or followup, given how busy these support folks are with all of the other calls and issues they have on their plates. However, Shelley called me right back a couple of days later to follow up, like she said she would, and told me that she would have a part sent out to me, because the remote fix wasn't successful. In the same conversation, she also gave me a day in the following week when a technician would come out to install the part. Shelley called and emailed me the expected arrival date and of the time window that the technician would be arriving on the scheduled day. I appreciated this, because it kept me in the loop and allowed me to work my schedule around the installation. Two quick days later, the part arrived and on the day of the installation, a technician named JP arrived during the time window that Shelley gave me. The technician was very friendly and knowledgeable. In the past, there have been disconnects between the technician at my house and the tech support person that I had been working with, but I was very pleased to know that the Shelley and JP had already communicated over the phone and were on the same page about the work that needed to be done. This made me feel very secure and comfortable that the issue would be resolved without further phone calls and in person appointments. Ultimately, I was very very pleased with the help that Shelley and JP gave me. They were friendly, patient with my thousand questions, and followed up as they said they would. Having worked in Tech Support and in Customer Service myself, this is what good service is. Kudos to Shelley and JP! read more

This is the worst company to have install your solar. They ruined my roof which ended up costing me over $30000 and offered me less than a thousand dollars yet they wanted $10000 to remove the solar for the roofers. If you had them put solar on your roof make sure you have it checked prior to 5 years because after that you can't sue or make a complaint against their license. Ran into a problem with my NRG-installed solar system (one panel shattered and another had a faulty optimizer). At first it was difficult to get responses from NRG, replies to emails/phone calls went unheeded or sporadically replied to. I think they've been totally overwhelmed with demand by new customers frantically trying to install systems before net metering ended. It took me going to EnergySage (which I heartily recommend in these situations) and complaining to get NRG's attention. Once I did that it was like an entirely new company. Johnny Conde who had been relatively unresponsive was suddenly taking charge, arranging site visits and deliveries of new equipment, etc. The customer experience was suddenly excellent and closer to what I had first encountered during the install. My final experience with NRG and the contractors they used (who were all excellent) is mixed. I really like that they're a smaller company based here in California, I really liked the NRG people I interacted with and I think a lot of what happened was due to them not being able to deal with demand. Bigger picture though, I do think the next big issue for residential solar will be repairing all these systems and who will do that over time. These systems are fragile and prone to breakdown. I'm also not that happy with Solaredge, who made the inverter and other systems (I've gone through FOUR Solaredge inverters because of manufacturing defects and broken equipment). That's not NRG's fault, but it does bring up the point that once you install your system you will be updating, fixing, and repairing it for 25+ years. I went through the sales process in winter of 2021 and had the system installed in March of 2022. Its a pretty standard solar roof panel install on a composite roof. I'm writing this review after a year of having my solar install completed in order to reflect how well its gone especially related to the result of net energy metering. I can say that after a full year now of solar, I will be getting a small credit from PG&E, so I'm definitely pleased with that result. *Sales Process* In general, this was fairly smooth. The sales person was pretty responsive and knowledgable and was able to answer all my questions. Comparing apples to apples on buying a system, NRG was the cheapest of the bids I had. In doing a little online research about the company, they seemed to have good reviews. This is how I ultimately ended up with NRG. *Install* Overall it went OK. NRG uses sub contractors and the sales person assured me they have long, good relationships with the ones they use. I don't think this is the case. Getting permits and inspections went fairly smoothly, and the physical quality of the install seems fine. Some things I noted during install that I wasn't particularly happy with: - The tech had to make a couple of trips because the initial install finish. It wasn't clear when he was going to come back out. - After his first visit, he just left. After looking at the equipment, I noticed that a piece was just left on top of the inverter. It ended up this was the wireless gateway I needed to monitor my system. The biggest hang up was getting this wireless gateway working. The process to do it is actually fairly simple once you're given the instructions. The tech made it sound like rocket science. I setup the gateway myself. - I had to do a panel upgrade as part of my install. My previous panel was labeled. The installer didn't label my new panel. When I brought this up, they said they would label it when they came back out. It took several weeks after the final appointment, and the tech provided me with a picture of my old panel. - During the install, working with my contact at NRG (who changes multiple times during the process, from sales, to pre-install, to install, to post install, to support, to.... I'm not sure) to get the system up and running was challenging. She was very unresponsive over e-mail and calling was a strange experience. She constantly came across as overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. In one instance when I called, the moment she picked up she began having a completely incoherent discussion about my solar install before even saying "hi". I actually counted 3 minutes of non stop speaking before she paused and I could say... Hi. *Customer support* Once everything was up and running, things went smoothly for a while. However, I started having some issues where the system would stop producing electricity. When I first noticed this, my system wasn't producing for about 2 weeks. Which brings me to... - NRG does no active monitoring of your system. If it stops working, its entirely on you to know it. There is a was to get notified from the inverter company via e-mail if the system has a problem (SolarEdge in my case), but they don't enroll you in it. So unless you open your solar app every day and look, you have no way to know if your system is working. - Working with customer support is difficult. I've been through a few people now, and the most recent person has been the most helpful, but still not quite good. As many others have reported, responsiveness and follow up are almost non existent. Everything requires an action by me, and usually multiple attempts. - For my latest issue, the customer support contact I have has mentioned that my inverter might need to be replaced under warranty, and mentioned they could have someone out by the following week. After responding to that e-mail, I've heard nothing back. The system magically repaired itself (again) after several days being offline. Yesterday, it went offline again. I e-mailed my support contact. No response. I've called today, voicemail. I've attached a screenshot of my system as it currently stands. Over the last 2 weeks, I've had 4 days of uptime. *Final Thoughts* I somewhat expected that going with the cheapest vendor (that doesn't make electric cars) would probably require a little more effort on my part to get things to a good point. I get that if I wanted a seamless experience, I probably needed to pay more. Since I view this as an investment, I was willing to put in some vendor management. I didn't think, however, that I would be sitting here a year later with a non functional solar system. In retrospect, NRG has no incentive to have any customer service to me. I made my last payment to them a long time ago. This is how it comes across at least. If I can't get my issues resolved soon, I'll likely reach out to another company to see about fixing my current install. read more
