Nova is located directly across from the hotel I stayed at and it was a point of mine to make it prior to departing NOLA and I'd say the point was worthwhile. They were out of a lot of things, including the specialty latte, but the staff was still extremely kind, and even direct me to some local places in case I decided to go somewhere else. That said a lot about them to me, so I decided to go ahead and stay and get a drink. I tried to bourbon maple syrup that they make in house, the flavor of the alcohol definitely added to depth the flavor to the coffee that I hadn't had before. Also, it's nice to have maple in this form and have it standalone outside of a stack of pancake pancakes. The shop was not empty, but there were people trickling in repeatedly, and about one to two doing work inside. There were two people working behind the counter, and they had a great rhythm the wait was not long. Nova Espresso easily claims a top spot on my list of New Orleans coffee shops. This was our first visit, and the quality completely blew us away--especially their house-made syrups! I went with the Bourbon Maple Latte, and my wife tried the Local Buzz. Both drinks were phenomenal. Bri, our barista, was absolutely fantastic and crafted everything with serious care and skill. The shop's atmosphere is exactly what you want: small, highly aesthetic, and perfectly quiet. I stopped by chance on my way to a convention. The shop was so cute and most importantly, open early in the morning when I needed the coffee. They have baked goods and packaged snacks like protein and granola bars on display for purchase. The coffee counter is small. When I went, only one barista was on the bar and also working the register, so I opted for the cold brew which I saw already batched for the day. I appreciated that the small cold brew came in a decent sized up. The flavor was very clean and smooth, just a hint of sour and fruitiness but mostly herby. But man, it may have been one of the worst mochas I have ever had. Maybe it's because they use homemade syrups or something. I absolutely loved their fall menu - they had some super creative fall drinks that were incredible and way more inventive and tasty than your average spot. I also got several pastries and loved the boudin boy and the coconut pastry! So tasty! Went this weekend and they were sadly out of matcha which happens- but it led me to try a lavender latte instead of the pond water w matcha and omg this was one of the best lavender lattes I've had and I drink a lot. What a happy accident! I was devastated when I spilled one of the four drinks I got and it was the other lavender one but I will definitely be back for more !
