The only bad thing about this lovely business is that it looks CLOSED. Nova has great sushi! They are a little on the pricey side, but that comes with being a sushi bar. If you're paying for cheap sushi, you better prepare for a rough night. I haven't had any entrees from there, but I can only assume the best! read more

Hands down the BEST sushi in not only Edgewater, but in the whole Annapolis area as well. We've been here probably 10+ times in the last few months and they have hit the mark each time. I like to try different entrees and each one has been really really good. They offer something different than all of the other "chinese" restaurants in the area. Sorely disappointed this time. We (party of 4) walked in to an empty restaurant on Sunday around 5 PM. We ordered the Nova salad, house salad, miso soup, sashimi plate, and sushi plate. Returned the Nova salad because seaweed is no longer an ingredient despite it still being listed on the menu. The house salads came drowned in the overly sweet salad dressing. I had forgotten to ask for the dressing on the side. The miso soup seemed thin and watery with no small bits of tofu this time. Their sushi is not known for their generosity of rice so we asked for more and got just a tad bit more. Hardly noticeable. I ordered a bowl of rice which had to be shared. Not sure their reasoning for tiny portion of rice. The sushi plate almost made it to the table when they realized it was not a sushi plate according to the menu so the sushi chef had to start all over. Presented nicely when they brought it back. Remembered to take a picture but only after we started eating. That got another star added to the review. Debating whether to return. read more

Let me first start by saying that until now, my favorite sushi/Asian fusion place was in VA and I've missed it desperately since moving to The Annapolis area. We haven't been able to find a place that even comes close to it...until now. When we pulled into the parking lot it looked like the stereotypical tiny hole in the wall you see in shopping centers. But when we walked in I wasn't expecting what we saw. Although it is pretty small with just a handful of tables it was VERY nice inside! It looked brand new. It was also incredibly clean...as was the bathroom...something that is more important to me than anyone will ever know.. We were greeted right away and were told to sit wherever we wanted. They took our drink order and brought us menus right away. There were plenty of menu options as well. When we placed our order I couldn't make up my mind between the fried rice and the sesame chicken. So my always sweet husband, who wanted spicy Generals chicken, ordered the sesame chicken so I could have that AND the fried rice. When the food came out...relatively quick, the very sweet waitress knew he wanted spicy so she brought him a bowl of the generals chicken sauce so he could dip some rice and chicken if he so desired. She didn't have to do that and she wasn't asked too. She did it because she listened to us and was a great waitress. She was also Johnny on the Spot with keeping our drinks filled. The food was absolutely amazing. Full of flavor and very fresh! All sorts of huge fresh chopped veggies and big chunks of white meat chicken. The fried rice was absolutely scrumptious but for me the best part was the sushi. I couldn't believe how fresh it was. The price was perfectly matched to the atmosphere, service, and quality of the food. When we walked out I looked at my husband and said I wasn't expecting it to be that good. His exact words were "I was VERY pleasantly surprised...we have found our new spot". I would recommend this to anyone and I know I'll be going back very soon! read more

This is by far the best sushi in Annapolis. This place gets looked over a lot, due to the popularity of some downtown sushi restaurants. I have tried all of them- and none of them compare to Nova. Their sushi is fresh and their hot dishes are always flavorful. You must try the live scallop- it's a rare dish to find and is packed with flavor. read more

This is the best sushi in the Annapolis area. Joss os the place to go if you are, or want to be, in down town Annapolis, but if you are heading out in your car there is no reason to go into town. My one issue with the place is that the service can get slow when they are busy. The speacialty rolls are awesome. Hands down, best sushi in the area. I've lived in Edgewater my whole life and this is exactly what we've been waiting for. Dragon House's sushi is normally too dry and comes with below average ginger. Fuji's sushi rolls are typically smaller, except for the price. My family has ordered sushi to go 4 times from Nova since they opened. Every time has been delicious. Food is reasonably price and I highly recommend you give it a shot. read more

I finally went to this restaurant after seeing the (mostly) glowing reviews about it here on Yelp. I really love good Japanese food, so I was curious to try it out. The positives far outweigh any negatives. I was impressed by the lovely décor and general atmosphere; this is a very attractive place. The service was excellent, although I will say I went there at a time when they were not very busy. For the most part the food was very good, although I have had better Japanese food elsewhere, but not much better. The avocado salad was excellent and the sushi and sashimi platter was as well. The miso soup was a disappointment though being rather thin and lacking flavor. I liked that they had pleasant atmospheric music, quite soothing and appropriate. Ok i am going to give them 5 stars because they deserve it. The food is 6 stars so it makes up for the 3 star service. The owners are fantastic and when they are helping you it is 7 star service, however some of the other employees are just sub par for the level of food you are getting. Ah.may.zing. Im not particularly a fan of 'traditional' sushi so I have been super pleased with this place many times. So many good things to order! A few of my favorites are: The Tuna Dumpling, an appetizer of raw tuna stuffed with deliciousness of crab meat....comes out looking like a tomato. The Samba cracker, also wonderful. A few of my favorite rolls are the Ichiban roll, Lava roll, and pretty much everything. They put a little twist on what they serve up and its all tasty :) read more

This was the second time we've eaten here. I ordered the salmon lovers dish. The quality of the fish has increased but there was one piece of sashimi that had some skin still attached. It covered about half of the slice. Very unusual and almost a no-no in my book. The miso soup was in a generous sized bowl but the tofu was scarce and diced super small. Pieces of wakame was nice to see and have in it. The quality of sushi rice is good but for some reason they were a bit skimpy with it. Each sushi piece had no more than a Tbsp of rice. If I were eating at an all you can eat, the amount of rice was perfect. I liked the presentation with the edible daikon and shiso leaf. The fried calamari was interesting. It was fried in a heavy batter and almost over cooked. It was served with a sweet sauce with a hoisin base. For an Asian fusion, I would have expected a Salt pepper fried calamari with a lighter batter or perhaps a fried calamari with diced bell peppers, garlic and onion. Based on quality of food, taste, presentation, serving size, ambiance, service location and wait time for a party of nine, I give it 4 stars. read more

I am a fan of Joss Cafe but its a little ways from my house. I looked this place up on yelp an notice its high ratings, even if it was only reviewed by 16 people compared to over 100 at Joss. I did not eat the regular entrée here, instead I came for the sushi. It was a pleasant surprise. Also the Mochi red bean dessert was sweet and excellent. I would give it 5 stars but I haven't tried the entrées yet. Maybe next time I visit I will update my rating. read more

I like Nova and I've been there several times. I find the restaurant to be clean, efficient and functional. There's not much atmosphere but the sushi is good. I've always stayed with sushi except for one time when I ordered a vegetarian Chinese dish which wasn't so good, not bad, but just not good. I'll only comment on the sushi and that I would say is above average. I would recommend the unagi which is very good. The service is okay, bathrooms are clean and overall not a bad place for casual lunch or dinner. I will definitely be coming back again for sushi. read more

So so japanese; the menu has an asian mix that is reminiscent of other establishments that aren't Japanese owned/operated. That is, some dishes are smattered about the menu that are not Japanese. The fare is reasonable and pretty tasty but not special, and certainly not DC or NY caliber sushi. Great sushi in Annapolis remains elusive, but this is okay for the price. The decor is nice and service is quite good, but don't try to impress a more cosmopolitan crowd with this local sushi spot. Around the corner is exceptional Vietnamese at Saigon Palace, so we tend to favor that for asian cuisine. read more

She is picky when it comes to sushi, like most people who have lived around big water their whole life.....if it's good for her I promise it's worth trying, she is very selective for sushi and this is one of two spots she will eat it from in Annapolis. This restaurant is a hidden treasure that I discovered 7 years ago and I go weekly for one simple reason. The food is fresh - even down to the rice! They have a whole process for preparing it to make sure it's fresh every day. Went to Nova for a late lunch with a friend today. It was empty, we were the only two in the restaurant other than the staff. This was probably because the restaurant is pretty new and it was between lunch and dinner time. My first impression upon seeing the inside: nicely decorated, well kept. Our waitress seated us at a booth, and gave us nice, clean menus. Clean menus are always a plus for me, as I cannot stand it when menus are sticky or have bits of food stuck on them. The tables were also clean, and if you're looking for those disposable wooden chopsticks, you won't find them here. Pretty metal chopsticks in a clean paper sleeve are sitting on your napkin. Forks are available upon request. As for the food, I ordered the chicken yaki udon. I've yet to find a sushi that I like (I'm afraid to try different kinds in case I don't like them) so I usually go with a kitchen entree. I've gotten yaki udon from what used to be Ego Sushi on Main Street in Annapolis, which was kind of horrible. The yaki udon here was a pleasant surprise. Nice chewy noodles with red bell pepper strips, snow pea pods and what I believe were zucchini strips. If you like bell peppers, you'll probably be happy with this since the sauce takes some flavor from those. The chicken was cooked in a way that made it very tender, though the chicken itself was a bit bland. There are other yaki udons you can get such as steak, shrimp and vegetable. My friend got the chicken teriyaki platter, a very safe staple in lots of Japanese cuisine establishments. It didn't disappoint! I had two pieces and it was delicious. The chicken came on a bed of vegetables, with a bowl of white rice on the side (you can even get brown rice). We also had some pan fried gyoza for an appetizer. These tasted pretty good, and had a filling of pork and chicken. Our food came out promptly, and the waitress was pretty attentive to our needs. If you're interested in sushi, go to Nova and try it out! Even if you don't like sushi, there's a few nice kitchen entrees to choose from. They even have some desserts! read more

I frequent this place quite often, and I have to say - it's amazing. When you first consider going to Nova, you may be slightly turned off because they are located in a strip mall next to K-Mart (as previous reviews mention), but don't let their location fool you. I've only had their sushi here, and it's always very fresh. They have a good variety included in their menu and overall the staff and Sushi Chef's are very flexible. If there is something that you want, they are willing to try and 'create' the sushi roll that you want. Each time that they've created something that I was looking for - it tasted fantastic. They offer take out (which is also very quick and seamless). Their dining area used to be relatively quiet - however now days - if you walk inside on a Friday night - the place is packed. To top it off, they cater to the military community and offer a military discount (ID needs to be presented) My husband has dined off their menu and raves about their General Tso's chicken.
