Solid sushi. My son and I ordered seven rolls, and the only ones that we didn't like were the fried ones. All of the standard sushi was good. My only issue (why I took off a star) was the nickel-and-dime feeling I get with the orders. If I want anything extra items (sauce) it's .50cents to a dollar extra. read more

Too tight of a space. I was disappointed when I found out they didn't do the hibachi in front of you. The food was good, pretty standard. I didn't get a photo but the shrimp tempura app is two shrimp & the rest is tempura veggies. My mother & I enjoyed our miso soup but her friend said the mushroom soup was a bit bland. Came 30 minutes before closing for a takeout order and they were quick with getting our order out. The service was incredible as he even offered to bring it out to our car! Although the restaurant is not a super fancy or trendy sushi place the quality of their sashimi is superb. Each piece was clean, very fresh, and did not have a single trace of a fishy smell. In addition, their fried ice cream is actually coated with a batter and fried - it's not just mashed cornflakes on a scoop of ice cream! As if that alone wasn't rare enough, you get a choice between three flavors (vanilla, green tea, and red bean). The asparagus roll and pickle roll didn't seem fresh and tasted flat and the miso soup was woefully lacking authenticity. I might give it another chance or just opt for the far superior sushi restaurant down the road in Prince Frederick. P.S. First and last time we go here. Initial impression was good! Ambiance was nice. Chef who seated us was on the phone as we walked in and couldn't be bothered to talk to us. I thought it was some of the most average sushi to below average sushi I've had. I've had better sushi from a grocery store. For some reason, they wrap some of their rolls in this weird strawberry flavored wrap vice seaweed paper. Very weird flavor and should be stated in the description of the roll. We each ordered hand rolls and there was 1 piece of fish in it. The "spicy" scallop was zero spicy. The apps were the best part of the meal other than the Sapporo beer. Wife's tuna hand roll had 1 measly piece of lukewarm fish. Staff seemed annoyed we were there. I can understand now why we were the only ones in the restaurant. You'd figure after spending $175 for 4 people you'd be satisfied: Nope, went to McDonald's afterwards for fries. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with how good our food has been here. We ordered hibachi shrimp and steak, a spicy tuna roll and salmon and white tuna sashimi. Both the sushi and sashimi was very fresh. The hibachi had amazing flavor. The fried rice needs a little more flavor and salt but there was enough sauce from the meat to flavor it up. We couldn't get yum yum sauce on the West Coast so having that back was a huge plus. I highly recommend trying out. The decor is modern and the restaurant is very clean. The employees and manager are all nice. Prices are reasonable. I also like that the lunch special is offered on Saturday's too and not just Monday-Friday. read more

I was especially disappointed by the sweetheart roll since it looked so nice. The spicy salmon was ok but I've had better. I don't usually like shrimp tempura but I think it was the best tasing sushi from the bunch. I would give it another try (given another discount) but my expectations are lowered dramatically. Simply the best sushi I've had in MD. And some of the best I've had anywhere. I've spent a lot of time in Japan, Los Angeles, the pacific islands etc and when I say this is good quality fish, I have a lot to compare it to. We had the fresh bluefin tuna that was unbelievable! So, I haven't eaten the food yet. But 70% of my experience at a restaurant has to do with detail and customer service. The lady at the front, Xiao, was so kind. She wasn't too knowledgeable about the beverage selection (they don't have many adult beverage options, I ended up getting hot sake). While I waited for my to go order the gentleman on his lap top delivered my beverage then proceeded to wipe the table down after me as I was being served. I can't express enough how wonderful this experience was. Hopefully the food will follow suit! I will update after I get home. Btw I got rolls, hibachi, and ramen! Beef teriyaki was kind of bland, I had to add soy sauce to it to get a bit more flavor. The sushi tasted fine. However, I ordered 3 pieces of shrimp sushi a la carte and I received 3 pieces of shrimp with no sushi rice underneath. I'm not sure if that is normal for Fujiyama, but anywhere else I've ordered that included rice underneath, nigiri style. Overall it was alright, but I don't know if I would order again. read more

Ambience: no rating yet as we have only ordered carry out a few times. Service: friendly and expedient. Foods: the past 6 months, we had ordered their menu items: sushi: (average, not bad, not great. The rice held together and didn't fall off when we picked it up with chopsticks - that's the standard test in knowing whether your sushi chef is good or not, that's just the starting point! Just my opinion-anyone can beg the differ and I won't be too upset. Lol). Ramen noodle soup: broth is clear, noodles are good, good amount of seafood. But, somehow I don't feel like I'm tasting the RAMEN noodle soup as it should be, it's more like a decent bowl of noodle soup. I can't really explain as I'm not a writer. If one has enough ramen noodle soups in their lifetime, one will definitely know the difference. Hibachi Dinner: we had a few different orders: chicken, beef/steak, shrimp; good. Great seasoning. The only thing I would prefer is less sauces as sometimes I feel like the sauces are drowning my dinner. But maybe other folks like their foods swimming in sauces. It's all relative. Appetizers: shumai (a little rubbery), edamame (when the edamame comes out not as green as it should be, you know it's not as fresh), aged tofu (good, light and airy), dumplings (too much dough, not enough meats filling), miso soup (bland) and side salad (great ginger dressing). I know they are not as descriptive but all I can tell you is that they are edible. Will we come back? Yes, because it's the only decent place in Dunkirk to eat - for now. And it's the only place we can order edible foods after 8pm (Wawa doesn't count as a restaurant!). Hopefully, it won't sizzle out like Thai Mama. Ouch! Sorry Thai Mama.
