Just avoid this place. It's gone steadily down hill since Dr. Brown sold the practice. The doctors are satisfactory but they got rid of all qualified and decent support staff and replaced them with subpar people. They will insist that you enroll in an app for appointment reminders and requests and then claim ignorance when the app doesn't work. Their prices are also sky high. It's really a shame. They were my vet for 20 years but they are really just awful at this point. read more

Nova Cat Clinic - Veterinarians Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I really appreciate cat-only clinics -- the staff are always so attuned to feline needs and provide wonderful care. I've been taking my cat to NOVA Cat Clinic for three years and highly recommend it to other cat parents. The vets and techs are sensitive to my cat's preferences, gentle during exams, and take time to explain everything clearly. When my cat shows signs of stress, they never push; instead, they suggest coming back another day for bloodwork if needed, which makes visits much more comfortable for all of us. The clinic itself is calm, clean, and clearly designed with cats' comfort in mind. I'm so grateful to have such a compassionate and knowledgeable team caring for my cat. read more

I had been coming to Nova Cat Clinic since I have been in DC for the past 6 years. The staff and doctors that saw my Destiny were nothing short of amazing. They were always really good about listening to any potential concerns and making sure I adhered to Destiny's follow up appointments. Unfortunately, Destiny transitioned 2 weeks ago--I received a personal email from her doctor as well as a handwritten card signed by the staff giving their sympathies during this time. That is a genuine and personal touch that is appreciated more than you know. For anyone who is looking for a veterinary office that specifically takes care of kitties, I HIGHLY recommend! read more

We have taken our girl Kila here for several years now and the doctors and staff have been great. Always take the time to listen to concerns and really hear what I'm saying. I've gone to vets that have ignored my concerns before and I've never felt that here. Haven't had issues scheduling appointments, usually they're able to take us within a few days for non-urgent checkups. Procedures can be expensive as with any vet office but we're often charged less than what was originally quoted. Kila has been through two dentals here and has been treated like a princess both times. And the best part - a very calm waiting room with no dogs barking! We're very grateful! read more

It makes me sad to leave this review because I took my cats here for 13 years and always loved the care they received. But in the past few years I have had nothing but problems with how the office is run. They are still clinging to "curbside service" where you have to call from the parking lot and wait there instead of the waiting room. They only stopped requiring masks in 2024. But I overlooked these things because of excellent vet care. This year was the last straw, though. I showed up, with 2 cats, for an appointment I made over the phone and was told the appointment had been canceled. They insisted I must have done this by accident, in the app, and I thought, well, I don't think so but I can't rule out the possibility. So I made a new appointment while I was on the phone from my car. In the meantime I decided to try a new vet, so I called a few days later to cancel the appointment. They once again told me that there was no appointment -- that I must have cancelled it! I am now sure that I did not accidentally cancel the first appointment because I know for a fact I did not cancel the second. So glad I did not once again stress my cats out with a car trip for no purpose because someone doesn't know how to save an appointment over the phone! I later found out this practice has been sold to a corporation , so that may explain the terrible customer service. Dr Brown was an excellent vet, but since his retirement I would not go back to NOVA. read more

Amazing clinic and staff. Even though they are booked (every vet clinic in the area is) they really tried to find an appointment for me. Kept me updated with changes that would have possibly affect me. I would absolutely refer them to my friends. read more

I decided to switch from VCA Hospital to NOVA Cat Clinic. And, I'm so glad I made the switch. First appointment was my cat's annual exam visit. Dr. Barron was amazing. She really took care of my dollface, who was nervous beyond belief. Just great care and attention, and provided sound explanations and advice. Second appointment was with Dr. Bazemore. I was super excited when she walked through the door. New Veterinarian at the clinic and just all around nice and helpful. This visit, my darling girl is experiencing vomiting issues. Dr. Bazemore took the time to explain the xrays, made a few recommendations to adjust her eating and food brands, and add a little more fiber to the diet. I've had 2 great experiences at this clinic. I feel like we found our new Veterinary home. All around great experience and great service. read more

Nova Cat Clinic - Waiting for the doc. - Veterinarians Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Sadly, Nova Cat Clinic (formerly Capital Cat Clinic) has suffered from its success and growth. The formerly small, friendly and caring clinic has become far too busy, communication has gone way down hill, the formerly all friendly staff has become some friendly and some who don't seem to care one way or the other, and service is frequently expensive. If you need an appointment, you'll be waiting a few weeks unless there's a cancelation. If you need to speak with a veterinarian for follow up, you need to leave a voicemail or send an email. Doctors most often reply to emails at the end of their day, which means I would respond with more questions and get a follow up email at the end of the next day. You can see where this is going. For issues that were of concern to me, I would usually request a callback but rarely receive it. Instead, I was stuck in the email game for a few days, when a phone call would have answered all my questions in a few minutes. Clinic staff tend do to reply to (email) inquiries more promptly if they don't require a doctor's input. The fact that nobody answers the phone unless I'm there for an appointment or requesting one is something I find off-putting. Also off-putting is the general interactions I had over the last several years with clinic staff. It used to be they were all friendly and caring. More recently, it's a mixed bag. Some are pleasant, and some give off the distinct vibe of not caring. No nicer way to say it, really, they just don't seem to give a crap. And finally there's the cost. I found in the past few years that I would rarely leave spending less than $400. I'm sure part of this was due to having a senior cat who needed blood tests. In summary, it once was the only place I'd take my cats. Now, it's just another mediocre clinic, and above all, I've lost confidence and trust in them. I don't feel that my cats will be well cared for there. After the passing of my last cat, and as I plan to adopt new ones, I will be going elsewhere in search of a good experience and quality care for me and my cats. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone because I do not trust that you would have a good experience or quality care. read more

I can no longer recommend this vet after their change in management. I was apprehensive about returning here after learning that almost all of their experienced doctors (including the one we had been seeing for years) had left, but I decided to give them a chance since my diabetic cat was due for a check-up. However, it was clear in the conversation with the new doctor that I had more knowledge about feline diabetes than she did. She seemed really confused about why I had brought my cat in and kept asking what my concerns were. Then she finally asked if I wanted them to check my cat's glucosamine (her long-term blood sugar; the term is fructosamine, which she clearly didn't know) to which I said yes. What did she think, that I was bringing my diabetic cat in so she could pet her? When it came time to pay, one of the staff members went over my bill with me and there were multiple charges that made no sense, the most egregious of which being that they wanted to charge me for checking her blood sugar to see if they needed to run her long-term blood sugar! She is a diabetic cat and checking her fructosamine is the whole point of her check ups! I refused to pay that fee although I did pay for an ultrasound that was used to check her urine; I still don't understand that charge (to the best of my understanding, it was needed because the technician was incompetent?), but I was tired of arguing and just wanted to get my cat and leave at that point. NOVA Cat Clinic is really expensive and they have recently raised their prices. They also try to force you to use their online pharmacy if you need prescriptions, which is way more expensive than competitors due to shipping fees alone. I was okay with returning when I felt that my cat was receiving excellent care, but this was the worst vet experience I have ever had in my 13 years of owning cats, and that includes an emergency vet experience where I was told to put my cat down -- at least they gave her proper care before telling me that! read more

Nova Cat Clinic - Cali my calico cat - Veterinarians Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

This clinic keeps popping back up when I look for pet care so I'm finally reviewing based on my one visit with them a couple of years ago as a reminder for myself. The reviews were really promising and the idea of a clinic that specializes with cats was really appealing given how much focus seems to be on dogs at a lot of places. However, I was greatly disappointed. The check-in was friendly but the cat handling was really concerning. What happened here while my one cat was being diagnosed was frankly a bit horrifying and I'm one of the less emotional fur parents. I've been to a couple of clinics before but this is the first one where my cat escalated to hissing and caterwauling and I really can't help but feel it was the way I saw them handle her. Typically, my cat is the friendliest thing ever and acts more like a dog so this was all new to me in the 5+ years that I've had her and I had never seen this even when she's gotten shots for vaccinations. They finally wrapped her up in a towel and immediately proceeded to try to draw a urine sample. She was fighting them and screaming as she got poked a few times. They must have saw my face because they excused themselves with her to another room where I heard her screaming really loudly then I heard a burst of laughter. When they brought her back, she smelled like urine and they shared that she was so angry that she just peed all over the table in the other room. I didn't really find this funny though they did try to wipe her off a bit. Needless to say, I was upset and went with another vet clinic. read more

We switched from Clarendon Animal Care to this place and never looked back. Very attentive and looks at your kitty's entire history to curate a treatment plan, versus diagnosing as the symptoms arise. Our cat was on countless medications when we brought him to Dr Brown and he basically said, wait a second, let's start from scratch and reassess. Turns out all the medications (steroids) were making our 15 year-old seem like he was diabetic but in reality he did not need the insulin injections he was receiving. We restarted his treatment plan from zero (new medications) and he's never been healthier. Thank you Dr. Brown! Sometimes when you're spiraling with various treatment plans, it's helpful to have an unbiased professional reassess and reset your options. read more

Five stars for the veterinarians, zero for the staff. The staff have hampered access to care on several occasions, the most recent of which is detailed below. My two cats see Dr. Bazemore, who is great with them. They are due for a visit in October, so I was surprised when I got a notification from Chewy that the cat food was shipped for only one cat because the other prescription was cancelled. The reason: she needed to be seen by the vet. I called the Nova cat clinic to find out what was going on. I was told that yes, Chewy contacted them and they denied the prescription, and because Dr.Bazemore was not in they would put a note in her box asking about the food. I was not given any time frame for when she would return. The prescription food for this cat prevents the formation of crystals in the urine that will create a blockage, so the cat will die from a ruptured bladder if she eats other food. I asked if I could speak with someone else. The response was "no, have a nice day" click Dr. Bazemore called that afternoon when I was in a meeting and explained via voicemail that the other cat's prescription was good through next April. It was clear she wasn't sure why I had called. The staff member had left her a note, but she asked about the wrong cat. I called again and got the same woman who again told me she would put a note in Dr. Bazemore's box. Not trusting her to select the correct cat, I sent both an email and a note on the web form asking for help with the prescription. The next morning, after hearing nothing from NCC, I began calling other vet offices to ask if I could buy the food from them if I brought them my cat's records. A little before noon that second day I heard from the office manager, William, who was not trying to reach me, but was returning a call my husband had made the previous morning. He got my information about what had happened then called back to explain to me that the prescription was through my previous vet, and it was they who declined it. All I had to do was order the food, put in the cat's name and Nova Cat Clinic, and the food would be sent. During the call he interrupted me when I was speaking, and, despite initially assuring me we would discuss the problems I had with the other staff member, he ended the conversation abruptly without doing so. I felt certain I had ordered this cat's food under NCC in the past, so instead of going online, I called Chewy to make sure the order was input correctly. During that conversation I was told they do, in fact, have outstanding prescription requests with Nova Cat Clinic for this cat, and the food could have been sent with this order had any of them been approved. I left another message at NCC for a call back so I could ask for a paper prescription to upload myself. That call was not returned. Friday night, the end of day three, I received a notice from Chewy that the food had been shipped. It is difficult to post a negative review of people who have control over vital prescriptions because of a genuine concern of retaliation that will lead to the harm of my pets. I recognize, however, that this worry is symptomatic of the larger problem I find myself facing. I feel that my cats have received very good care from the veterinarians at Nova Cat Clinic, but I have no confidence in either the ability or the integrity of the office staff. What a stressful, exhausting mess. read more

I'm giving NOVA Cat Clinic a two star review because they were recently careless in treating my cat, which almost resulted in a major crisis and potentially irrevocable harm to her health. I will stop short of accusing them fully of malpractice, and I will not be taking legal action, but I probably have a case. I brought my cat to the vet in the morning the other day and left her to be seen (I had to work). Dr. Bazemore saw her, called me and communicated that she likely had an infection and needed to put her on antibiotics. When I picked her up from the vet, I was not given any medication, so I assumed that they had given her the antibiotics intravenously. A day later, my cats eye blew up - it was bloody and cloudy and she was clearly declining in health. I brought her back into NOVA Cat Clinic and Dr. Bazemore asked me how I was doing with giving her the medication. "What medication?," I asked. That's right... for 30 hours, my cat continued to decline because they failed to give me the requisite medication to make her better. They almost thought about charging me for the second trip, but I was fairly belligerent in my refusal to do so. Needless to say, I will not be returning. One other comment - my cat (same trip) had peed all over herself in the waiting room (probably nerves) and no one took her to clean her off (they only took the carrier), so after waiting 10 minutes, I cleaned her off myself. I feel like attention to detail could be improved on all fronts. The bright spot in the practice is Dr. Brown - the owner - who truly cares about his patients. Every time I have seen Dr. Brown he has been patient, kind, thorough and thoughtful. I only wish that the rest of his staff cared as much as he does. read more

Best vet in town hands down for cats. Took my cats to Clarendon Animal Care and they did not do a good job compared to here. Nova Cat Clinic is a true treasured gem in Arlington. The folks at NOVA Cat Clinic made me and my new addition HBH feel like family, even though I had to sit in the parking lot after a socially-distanced hand-off at the front door. They briefed me at every step of the way by phone on how my new cat's exam was going. When my vet, Dr. Shannon Heath, had to break some bad health news to me, she was patient with my sudden panic and endless questions, that I kept peppering her with in the days following our visit. The whole team was! Also, they are technically savvy -- the online pharmacy they use, Covetrus, and the PetDesk app they use for scheduling etc. makes getting medicines delivered to your door, and making your next appointment, a breeze. Thanks, TEAM NOVA! read more

This place has horrible customer service !!! The manager "DrBrown" and another staff member by the name Jonathan were the ones who answered the phone both times. I was looking for a place to board my cat for a 10 day trip I'll be taking later in the summer. My cat has a heart condition and trips in the car really stress him out. I was told that he would need a pre-boarding check-up despite having just taken him to his regular vet. I called 3 times during the week leading up to his appointment and requested that a manager call me back to see if we could avoid this unnecessary appointment. No one ever called me back so I stressed my poor guy out in the car to meet this requirement. I explained his medical condition and offered to send his medical records in advance. The front desk staff was unprofessional all around. The vet looks at my cat and reviews his record and then tells me they CANNOT BOARD MY CAT DUE TO HIS HEALTH CONDITIONS, after I explained his conditions over the phone and again, offered to send his records prior to the appointment. As a clinic that claims they care for cats, they were incredibly uncaring and unsympathetic to health concerns for an aging cat. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone who cares about the health and safety of their cat. read more

Dr. Barron and the others at NOVA are incredibly kind and thorough in their care. Our two 15 year old cats are far more comfortable in their extremely feline friendly--and dog-free--office than they have ever been at previous veterinary practices. They are very knowledgeable and explain everything clearly and honestly, without ever seeming pushy or focused on selling overly expensive and largely unnecessary extra services. Standard services are certainly not cheap, but they're within range of similar places here. And the quality of care is above and beyond. read more

Still the best. They are very patient with my obnoxious diabetic cat! Their vets and techs are caring, thorough, and pleasant. Where to start. I have a cat with chromic upper respritory issues. After one vet was unhelpful, I decided to take him here. Initially I thought they were more helpful and I was going to get to the bottom of my cats issues. Here is what I encountered while taking my cat here: Estimates for procedures that were HUNDREDS of dollars off because the vet "forgot to include X or Y" and then them expecting me to have that extra money to pay (not to mention I kept having to call them and ask for the estimate). A vet that did not seem concerned with my cats health and was unwilling to return calls. He had had a procedure and they said "next step is a specialist if he gets sick again." I called in to the get the specialists info because my cat was sick, waiting a few days, heard nothing, made an appointment, and then had to pay for a visit to get the info. To top if off, my cat CLEARLY had an infection and all they sent me home with was 3 doses of pain meds when they knew I had a three week wait to get in to a specialist. They said "he will be fine." My cats condition worsened, I called them to see if there was anything they could or to see if they thought I should bring Ollie in. Once again Dr. Torres never responded, called twice trying to get help. Requested reccords be sent to specialist (who was part of an ER) 5 days later they had not been sent, and when I took my cat to the ER (same place the specialist is) this week because I could not get a response from the clinic, they still did not have the records. This place is inefficently ran, I don't trust Dr. Torres with an estimate let alone my cat. And the front office is slow or just completely unhelpful. It was nice they are one of the only places around with immediate appointments, but I think that is because they just suck. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAT HERE, you will waste so much time and money. read more

I have been very happy with the care they provide to my cat. She can be very difficult and they manage to get the job done. It takes two vet tech's to clip her nails but they get it done. I came here with my purebred Maine Coon because this is supposed to be the place for cats. But I was treated so badly over my disability that we won't be able to continue here. I have an autoimmune condition and need my cat to be kept fragrance and chemical free. I discussed this with the clinic, we decided on strategies and scheduled his neutering and dental cleaning. He came home to me completely drenched in women's perfume. So I call them in high distress since I'm having an anaphylactic reaction and he's running all over the house, transferring fragrance everywhere. "What happened to him in your care? What do I do now since I can't give him a bath, post surgery?" The office manager immediately went into alpha B mode and nastily said. "If you are going to react each time, maybe you shouldn't bring him here for procedures." Message received. After dropping over 1k at this clinic, I was shocked at how easily and completely I was dismissed over my disability. People with disabilities and their cats need access to services. Lastly, the assistants at this cat only clinic do not know how to take blood from a cat. They stuck our cat so many times, he was screaming by the end. It was awful for everyone and completely unacceptable. See ya. read more

Extremely happy I decided to make the drive to take my sweet fur baby to Nova Cat. The staff was amazing to say the least. From beginning to end my baby and I felt comfortable. He's not happy when going to the vet but seemed to feel and know that the Nova crew was his people. I couldn't believe how he responded. The front ladies was so very helpful with the issue I had (scheduling conflicts) I didn't mind having to wait to get in. I felt they really tried. I went in knowing that all vet hospitals are dealing with their own difficulties, but never felt like they didn't give things their absolute all. I've had 2 visits with them and both times was the same experience or not better. Reading the so called bad reviews they have, I can't help to think it's that person that gave them a hard time. Seeing other clients in hospital responding to them was the same energy as me. This place is amazing! 10/10 recommend! read more

Update: I'm pretty disappointed that after spending over $700 (yes - $700) on a teeth cleaning and ONE extraction, they had the nerve to not honor the Yelp free catnip toy upon checkin. Also, the two desk staff were incredibly rude to me. After spending a plane ticket to San Fran on their services, you'd think they would be nice and honor their coupon for something so small. Also, they did not go over how to administer my cat's pain meds. I was spending the extra buck to go there all the way from DC (and overpay) bc these people were NICE - but apparently the quality of their staff has suffered. One star because their morning reception was very friendly. One star for the nice voicemail the doctor left for me. The rest was completely blown by the rudeness of tonight's staff. read more

Nova Cat Clinic has been outstanding in their care of our two recently adopted kittens (who did not begin life in the best of health). First of all, Nova Cat answers the phone! This review, though, is about the kittens' recent spay experience. The clearance exam was thorough and reassuring, the spay sutures were all internal and self-dissolving (nothing to chew on), and the post surgical medication was perfect: the kittens were calm and rested easily without wooziness, e-cones or other unpleasant restraints. Dr. Torres, the surgeon, got back to answer all my non-urgent email questions by the end of the day. I'm completely pleased for the kittens and myself with this experience. The staff at the clinic facilitates all of this, and I appreciate them! read more

I can't figure this place out. I go here because they only work with cats, so I imagine that's some kind of plus. But every time I pick my cat up from here, there's something wrong. Last time he had a dental cleaning, I picked him up and one of his nipples was sliced. Now I've never shaved a cat so maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems to me the nipples on a male cat are in or near the same place on every cat. How can the technician slice one like that? No one said anything to me so I noticed the blood on my own when I got home. At my first visit here a tech held my cat and ask me if he was chipped. I said no. Then she told me that she was going to take him in back and scan him for a chip anyway. She made it clear she was looking for stolen cats, which made me feel like she was accusing me of being a thief, because she had just asked me if he was chipped and I told her that he was not. It was pretty uncomfortable. If they're going to scan for a chip, just do it - she wasn't asking my permission -- she was telling me that this was how it was going to be. As I said, her approach to this issue made me feel as if I had done something wrong, when all I did was adopt a kitten from Petco in NYC. But more importantly: Today I picked my cat up from being neutered. They sent me home with three blister packs of pain killers/anti-inflammatory and instructions to put one in his food when I got him home. On arriving home, I open one blister pack and it is empty. I open a second and that one is also empty. The third one had a pill in it. On reflection, my guess is that the blister packs came in a sheet, with several empty to make it an even square or something. The empty blister packs were not open but they also were not labelled as the full blister pack was - in fact the back of the empty ones were unmarked, while the full one has the drug's name and dosage and 'for oral use in cats only'. I now see that the empty blister packs are also a different size than the full ones. See photo here: http://i.imgur.com/AIHFz8R.jpg. Why the people there aren't trained to know this already is beyond me. In fact the assistant at the front desk wondered out loud why the packet seemed so empty, but assumed the pill had been crushed. What if I had come home with NO meds? A true pain in the neck. I feel that sending me home with empty blister packets is indicative of a bigger problem at this place. Perhaps, as with many doctors, the doctors 'in charge' here are not aware of what goes on in their front office. My cat wants to lick the incision site. On the web I've read that if the cat wants to lick there a lot after this procedure, a cone might be in order. However, the instructions they gave me say zero about this. But when I called they said if he licks it a lot I may want to get a cone. Good to know, wish it were on the instructions. Edit, I was told by Dr. Brown that they use some kind of glue on the incisions, but I was later told by Dr. Wootton that they don't use anything on the incisions, which is what it looks like. ??? Maybe I simply misunderstood Dr. Brown. Speaking of the instructions, or post-surgical sheet, or whatever it's called: They should think about giving this instruction sheet out in advance, as it also says not to use regular litter to avoid infection. Well, I just happen to have a bunch of shredded paper at home by chance because I was shredding old documents yesterday. But otherwise this came as quite the surprise to me, and in my opinion it would be better to tell cat owners in advance this kind of thing, and about the cone, so we can be prepared when we pick our cats up. And also, when I got home I was getting my boy out of the car, and I noticed that the front of the soft carrier was unzipped almost all of the way. The top was closed but the front was almost open! They carried him down their stairs like that! What if he had fallen out of there? There's a serious lack of attention to detail going on here. On the plus side, Dr. Barron has offered to drop the missing meds off as she lives in Washington, as I do. As I said, perhaps the doctors are not involved very much with how the 'front' of the office is run. I'm quite perturbed about both of these experiences, but hey, maybe I'm overreacting. Considering the pricey costs of bringing my cat here, I expected better-trained staff. I'll add that they've has some curious problems with their email and web site as well, allowing in viruses and other problems (lost contacts, I believe). Someone isn't paying attention over there. I'll likely continue to visit because the vets are cat experts, but something is wrong there and I hope they fix i read more

The veterinarians at NOVA Cat Clinic were kind and easy to talk to, however, I lost trust in them after utterly failing to diagnose a serious problem, providing treatment that significantly worsened my cat's condition, and being unable to help during emergencies (even when their treatment was the cause). read more

Dr. Barron has cared for our geriatric cats for years, the oldest = 19, getting weekly treatment and regular acupuncture for a variety of conditions. He jumps around like a teenager, without the care he's gotten i doubt he'd still be so spry. Not inexpensive, to be sure. We've had only positive experience. read more

I've seen most of the vets and the techs at Nova Cat. Everyone is so nice and friendly, and so patient with my endless questions and odd concerns. I love that they take details notes and always follow up on the previous visit's concerns. I've seen on Yelp that some people think they are expensive, but the level of care is an excellent value in my opinion. read more
