I absolutely positively have to give 5 stars to Dr. Brooks. I have a 10 year old German Shepherd,…read moreKami. Her and I have lived in 4 different states together so you can imagine she's had a ton of vets. Dr. Brooks is by far the best doctor her or my other baby Jindo have ever been seen by. She always walked me through all the options in a way that respected my budget but made me understand pros and cons of each way forward of care. I never felt pressured by her and always knew Kami was getting the absolute best care ever. I've recommended her to all of my friends and honestly leaving her was a top 3 con to moving out of state. I honestly cannot recommend her enough. Kami and Kimmers love love love Dr. Brooks!!! Also the front desk staff is so sweet and nice. Kami is on a prescription food so we had to get it from them so I saw a lot of them. The place really felt like family!

Beware of Dr. Sampliner. She unnecessarily stokes fears and quotes ridiculous prices. My cat had an…read moreemergency over the weekend so we went to an emergency vet. We received a urinary tract infection diagnosis and were issued meds. When I took him into our vet, Caring Hands South Arlington, Dr Sampliner checked him out. Before we left, Dr. Sampliner asked if she could take a sonogram - for free. I said okay, and then she came back said she may have seen "something" and my cat COULD die - amid quoting high prices for further (unnecessary) treatment. She did something similar with my dog's teeth cleaning - stoked fear and quoted a ridiculous price range. I switched doctors. It's crossed my mind that maybe she's a "rainmaker" for the hospital. The other vets (Dr Maxey) are outstanding.

Do not know if policy still in effect. My dog is very sick, 10 yrs old, because a different hospital nuked it at 15 weeks, with 2 shots same day, including the rabies, that clearly could have Waited, and 15 weeks being given shot is fking criminal . Brought dog to Shirlington since it was very sick, and meds and shots given to cure it. Then went to another hospital and more of same. Dog became fearful of hospitals as result, shaking each time. Other hospitals remedy for this is shots to calm it down in addition to 2-3 shots , that in vets view past due, and this was prior to a surgery. to me shots, not priority now, surgery is. Just read , article where "senior dog was abused and neglected for 10 yrs and now rescued" . eg dog survived abuse, lack of food, and clearly survived without the REQUISITE SHOTS, THAT ONE CLOWN VET IN MCLEAN CLAIMS, "WITHOUT SHOTS, DOGS DIE IN STREETS". REALLY? IN SUMMARY, MOST OF THIS RELATES TO ANIMAL HOSPITALS IN GENERAL. EG PROFIT OVER WELLBEING OF ANIMALS.

Solid 3.5 stars but I'll round up. Here's why:…read more The phone team is extremely great at scheduling you an appointment for your four legged friend. Additionally, they're great about fulfilling medication and pet food if you're using a third party like Chewy. However, the wait times can be pretty rough. For example a miscommunication happened during my visit today. I asked someone if I can be seen and he said he's waiting for the doctor charts. 45 minutes pass and I hear one of the techs ask if my dog has walked in. I had to announce my arrival, a little irked that no one noticed me and my dog pacing around at all during that time. However once I was checked in, my dog was in and out in a minute for his vaccines. The doctor we see here is usually great, compassionate, and willing to answer any questions. Other than the hiccup today, I still will continue to come here. I'd say it's much better service than the other vet locations I've visited in the area. PS they have complimentary charging stations which I needed when my phone was at 1% as well as complimentary WiFi.

Do not take your pets here. They sell a care package plan that is supposed to include unlimited…read moreoffice visits and emergency visits throughout the year. I pay for this plan, and when I actually had an emergency with my dog, I was told I could not bring him in because their emergency doctors were unavailable and apparently all on vacation at the same time. They would not even accommodate me with an emergency appointment. So what exactly am I paying for? On top of that, almost every time I bring my dog in, my bill ends up being $500 or more. In my experience, they consistently oversell medications, tests, and additional services that do not always seem necessary. There is constant pressure to add more testing or medications, and the additional charges add up very quickly. I purchased this plan specifically for the peace of mind of knowing my dog could be seen when he needed care, especially in an emergency. Being turned away when I actually have an emergency completely defeats the purpose of paying for this plan. After repeatedly spending hundreds of dollars on top of the membership and now being unable to get my dog seen during an emergency, I have completely lost confidence in this practice. Save yourself the headache and the money. I would not recommend this practice or their care plan based on my experience.

Del Ray Animal Hospital - The staff is striking a pose at our Open House

My Merlin Cat collapsed and began seizing in the morning of Jan 6, so I immediately grabbed him and drove to Del Ray Hospital (much closer than my usual cat clinic in Kingstowne). Their current policy is to call ahead so they can let you in during an appointment, but when I knocked frantically at their door, with Merlin Cat in my arms wrapped in a thick towel to keep him warm. One of the staff quickly opened the door and ushered me in, asking what I needed and what had happened. I don't even remember exactly what I said, but they immediately took him to the back while another person took me to an exam room. Unfortunately, Merlin Cat was gone and I just lost it completely. One of the staff (and I am so sorry I can't remember any of their names), stayed with me while I cried, and another person brought Merlin in the room so I could say my goodbyes. They told me to take my time and let them know when I'm ready. I was there for nearly an hour, and they just periodically checked in, spoke about logistics when I was calm, but mostly gave their sympathy while my bf and I cried over our boy. He was only 7, and I'd expected to have 10+ more years with him. They took very good care of Merlin, even though this was our first time with them. They treated a grieving owner with kindness. When I picked up Merlin's ashes and pawprint, the lady who handed them to me just held my hand and expressed her sympathy again. Then I got a lovely sympathy card from the staff. I haven't read it yet, I'm not ready, but I appreciate gesture so much. So for being so kind and so empathetic and for their sincere sympathy, thank you. I don't want Merlin forgotten so...check out his silly face.

We have been long time patients, but the care has declined over the years. For routine vaccines…read moreand check ups it was acceptable, though we noticed we never saw the same vet twice. As our dog grew older, we have recently caught major gaps in the care for seniors. A new chronic condition was caught later than it should have been and not managed appropriately. Common side effects were not checked for, despite being in her records. Routine tests for this condition were not checked and even after I followed up, neither vet I spoke with suggested doing those tests. This was caught after a trip to the emergency vet, and when I e-mailed explaining that my dog had been in the emergency vet and asking if she had had certain tests at either of her appointments in the last six months. I got a one-sentence follow up saying that they didn't do those tests. No check in, no inquiry about how my dog was doing, no offer for follow up care. We have switched and can no longer recommend them for anything other than one-off issues or vaccines. The young, rotating vets do not seem set up for success here.
