Responding to the business owner's response: 1. I primarily…read moreasked for an annual checkup as my dog has diarrhea every couple of months and that's normal for him. Despite that info, your team made a strong case about selling prescription treatment and you admitted to me verbally that your technicians didn't communicate that and weren't well trained. 2. When the technician lady I spoke with yesterday kept on cutting me off and saying that I was the one who rejected the heartworm test because your hospital "always" does things right, yes I got frustrated. I told her I was going to hang up and that I would find another hospital because I didn't want to continue being talked over and gaslighted. In my perspective, a proper response from your team would have been "I am surprised to hear that wasn't relayed to you. There must have been a mistake." And not "Our hospital always asks the owner so it must have been you who rejected it" esp when she couldn't find any records 3. Lastly it is my bad for assuming that the technician was the doc's wife. I am truly sorry for that. Being Korean myself and supporting a lot of Korean establishments in NOVA, I see a lot of husband-wife businesses. That lady's demeanor said she didn't care about losing my business at all so I assumed she was related to the owner. I am sorry as it was a cultural misguided assumption. Since you say that you are hoping to improve, my sincere feedback for your hospital is below: 1.) Please take some time to improve on empathy and customer service. Take a moment to listen to the customer. Please refrain from being defensive, cutting people off, arguing back, etc. I have never in my 20+ years in NOVA have come across an establishment where I felt the communication was this difficult. 2.) Kindly take the time to talk with patients & train your technicians on products they are selling, on customer service, on promoting clear/transparent processes. Yes you treat animals. But you are the main communicators with those pets' owners. Does a doctor at the hospital only checks up on the patients and prescribes treatment? No - they talk with family members, clearly explaining and assuring of what they are going to do and train their nurses to best assist with the treatment. That is part of the job and is a huge part of patient care. I have a right to my experiences and to share my perspective as do you. Please don't accuse my experience as being slanderous and unfactual. Obviously there was a lot of miscommunication but maybe that in itself can be a starting place for you to reflect on how to best mitigate those problems in the future. I wish you and your business best of luck. ---- It's not worth the stress, people. Please don't be swayed by the prices & look elsewhere. Three main reasons why I'm taking my dog elsewhere - Unclear Practice/Process, Poor Communication, Aggressive Attitude toward customers. A couple of weeks ago, I brought my dog in for an annual checkup. He was having diarrhea but I wasn't too worried as it happens occasionally, but since my dog's annual checkup was due in a month or so, I thought why not bring him in early just to check? I relayed this as I checked my dog in. Then a headache ensued with their technicians trying to sell my husband this comprehensive treatment plan to my dog. I was so confused - how could there be a treatment plan when the results of the bloodwork wasn't even out? When I went to pick up my dog, I told the doc - I get all the other shots you're giving my dog, but "what's the difference between getting my dog prescription food vs. feeding him a bland diet for his diarrhea?" And the doc said, "you don't have to cook." ...I was baffled. There was a miscommunication, a large part of it was due to undertrained technicians which the doc admitted to, and yet he had a standoff with me for 30 minutes. Whatever, I just wanted to take my dog home. THEN, a couple weeks later today, I was ordering heartworm medicine through Chewy and they declined it. I call the hospital and this Korean lady whom I assumed to be his wife based on how she was asserting herself, tells me that my dog didn't get his annual heartworm test. I asked her why then didn't they tell me when I went in for a checkup and then she aggressively argued that she's sure that someone must have told me. She looked in my records, but there was no record of me saying I declined the heartworm test, because I didn't. Yelp-fam, I told you the facts. You decide if the headache is worth it. Prices are great. But if you're anything like me and want the absolute best care for my dog and be treated in a professional/kind way, then pay a bit extra to get care elsewhere. Walk away. Also, DM me your favorite vets in NOVA. Looking for a new one for my fur-best friend.

Today, it is hard to find competent and caring people who take pride in their work. I could not have expected more form a vet. Dr. Wes Parquette, called me prior to ultrasound to discuss symptoms ( I missed call due to some phone issue which also did not show vm until 2 hours later) Needless to say, Dr. Parquette called back 2 hours later, discussed issues on phone, and then proceeded with ultrasound. After that, he thoroughly, discussed Dexter's medical issues and gave us options. My wife is a non practicing medical doctor, trained overseas, English is not her native language and I am hard of hearing, even with hearing aids on, which distort voices. FORTUNATE THAT DR. PARQUETTE'S VOICE DELIVERY ENABLED ME AND MY WIFE TO UNDERSTOOD 98% OF WHAT HE WAS SAYING. IT WAS A CRITICAL SITUATION FOR MY BEST FRIEND DEXTER AND IT WAS PARAMOUNT THAT WE UNDERSTOOD DR PARQUETTE WHICH WE DID. REITERATING, COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR MORE FROM A DOCTOR, WHO WAS SUPERB OVERALL. The front desk staff was exceptional as well. A question from a non vet like myself. Why do some vets give multiple shots on same day eg at 15 weeks which caused a month of sickness and multiple vet visits, and most likely created long term problems, or prior to surgery to remove a cyst in ear where a vet in Springfield , Va. who gave at least 2 shots a week before the surgery, (I subsequently because of that cancelled surgery and went to different vet) . Given dog's negative reaction to hospitals due to his bad experiences at such, is it not better to simply do cost benefit analysis, given dog's visible shaking and attempts to go out under the door and get him out of hospital asap rather than "do the obligatory" shots which may not help , and clearly not a current priority. Or was it a case of get the $$ now , rather than risking not coming back for the shots after the surgery. And digressing a big again, today, I read, a second NFL player sentenced for dog fighting of over 15 years, ignoring his earlier conviction and failed state not imprisoning him, the first time, and his esq adding insult to injury claiming his $30,000 fine would deprive him of his medical needs, and his "conviction and loss of dogs , is enough punishment" paraphrasing, eg 190 dogs taken from him, all used for fighting and judge does not admonish the paid ''' p...e" esq claiming that the loss of dogs (taking away dogs for their safety) is tantamount to punishment. IF THEY SYSTEM IS NOT TOTALLY BROKEN DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS.

I called my regular vet (CAC) from the car to see if they had any appointments- they didn't- but the nice woman on the phone fear mongered me into going the emergency route and was sweet enough to text me the info for this location. I thought to myself "what a lovely kind human!" LOL of course as soon as I walked in I realized why she was so insistent and why she'd go out of her way to text me the location info. Because this clinic is owned by CAC. Nothing inherently wrong w the service received, although the Doc definitely copped an attitude when I alluded to the wait time when mentioning how stressed my dog was. I was 35 min early for my "appointment" (because it didn't make sense to go home for 10 mins). Was hoping we might get in early but as the appointment time approached I thought to myself "ok well maybe they stick to appointment times." lol. No. We were seen over an hour later. The catch? There was literally NO ONE else in the whole clinic the entire 1.5+ hrs we were waiting. Except the patient that came in after my appointment time and got to jump the line. Why offer appointments? Our two pets are very different in a vet's office - while one is a cool cucumber, the other suffers from severe anxiety. CAC spends a lot of time getting to know each individual pet to provide the best possible care. They have found ways to successfully treat both of our pets with individualized approaches. We have seen a few of their vets, but Dr. Smith has been a stand out for us. She first saw our cat and we thought she was so fantastic that we switched our dog to her care, as well. We'd be devastated if she ever left the practice! CAC consistently spends the most time in the exam room out of any veterinarian we've seen in the past. CAC's techs and assistants are thoughtful and patient with each individual animal. Our dog is not easy at all to interact with but Dr. Smith has never expressed frustration, instead seeking to find ways to ensure that we can treat her without causing her any undue stress. There have been many vet offices where quality has gone downhill in recent years but CAC's staff and practices continue to give me a lot of confidence. They are also so easy to get a hold of via phone and communicate well via email to answer any outstanding or random questions. Knowing that there's a friendly, competent, and professional staff on the other end of the phone gives me a lot of confidence that we are doing the best thing for our pets and making sure that we don't have to bring our anxious dog in for every small concern we might have. They are a pricey practice - the costs here are sometimes tough to swallow - but we find that their vets are judicious in their recommendation for testing and diagnostics. They generally provide all the options up front and Dr. Smith has never pushed us into expensive or extreme options, always being willing to start with the most sensible and least invasive approach. We really appreciate the excellent care they've provided to our pets and we hope that we will be able to keep both of them within the care of CAC for years to come.

She said that if she couldn't figure out what was wrong with Cinnamon with the first test then she would move onto others. There was no need to over charge our family unnecessarily. She also explained everything thoroughly and was extremely patient with us. Unfortunately Cinnamon was an elder dog, 17, and was undergoing kidney failure.
