Nickens was so much more personal than any other veterinary office could provide, but for a similar price point!

From the moment I walked into Heavenly Paws Cremations, Donnia made an emotional time so much more bearable. She welcomed me with warmth and compassion, sitting me down to explain all my options with patience and care. They have a beautiful selection of urns displayed in a separate room, allowing me to choose something special. The entire process was handled with professionalism, promptness, and clear communication, which I truly appreciated during such a tough moment. I was even able to get a footprint, a handprint, and some feathers, which meant so much to me and my daughter as a way to remember our sweet bird. When I received the remains, they were placed in a lovely velvet bag, showing the attention to detail and respect they have for both pets and their owners. I cannot recommend Heavenly Paws Cremations enough for anyone going through the loss of a pet. They made the process seamless and dignified, and their quality products and compassionate service made all the difference. Thank you, Donnia, for your kindness--you truly helped make a heartbreaking experience a little easier.

I chose a small necklace with a vial, heart and wing attached as an urn keepsake. When I picked him up 2 days later I found a claw print in the bag with him! I highly recommend Heavenly Paws Cremation. I felt confident leaving Poncho with them. Laura and the rest of the staff were wonderful to us!! I am so happy he is home, we will be sprinkling the rest of his ashes at my grandparents graveside who were his first owners.

Yes, we love our dog. Now, let's get a few things straight. First, we have had great care at Waldorf Emergency Care over the last 7-8 years. This has included multiple visits with our dog and our cats during that time. Dr. Fox has a lifetime of experience caring for all types of animals and is still committed to his clinic and patients. I have had the same experience with the other vets on duty, and also with the vet techs. Second, yes, there is actually a cost to pet care. Imagine that. Notice that each of the poor ratings were people complaining about the cost. It is an EMERGENCY CLINIC! Ever seen the cost of an ER visit at your local hospital? Jesus. If you can't afford the cost of care, either get pet insurance or a CareCredit card, or do NOT get a pet at all. Third, having observed many, many people in that waiting room over these years, I am astounded at the incredible impatience and outright sense of entitlement of so many pet owners. The pets are evaluated based on their conditions and rank ordered for care...no difference than in a hospital ER. Bottomline is that the poor reviews are not at all my experience. Read through them and see if $$$ is actually the core reason. That's what I got out of them.

A friend informed me about this place after my fur baby transitioned. I was planning on taking her…read moreto Falls Road Animal Hospital where she was being treated, to be sent off for cremation. However, my friend suggested I take my fur baby to this place instead, because she was going there to pick up one of her pets' cremated remains. Since she wasn't sure on how to get to Falls Road Animal Hospital, I decided to ride with her to this place. After we arrived I was told that the total for my 9 lb dog would be a total of $283.00 (?!) which came with a very small wooden cheap urn - no memorial plaque included. The person that was assisting me was named David. After he took my fur baby's body from her carrier, and placed her on a table in a back room, I went to say my goodbyes to my precious fur baby. When I saw her on the table I noticed that there was some body fluid that was aligned with her nose inches away from her body. Which meant that he didn't take care with taking her out of her carrier to put her onto this table. When I left from the room, after saying my goodbyes and I love yous' to my fur baby, I noticed he had placed her carrier by the front door. I'm not sure if this is protocol or he just wanted me to hurry and leave after I paid $283.00 ??? I asked that some of her ashes be put into a different bag for her original human, before I adopted her. He told me that she would be ready for pick up in a few days, which should have included one of her favorite little teddy bears that was to be cremated with her. The same friend brought me back to this place to pick up my precious fur baby's ashes. The second guy that answered the door immediately looked at me, looked at my friend, whom happened to be white; and said , "She's first." He assumed that we weren't together; because I came into the door first. I don't know if it was racial bias; but it sure felt that way. After this disturbing event; all three of us went into a back office. He had my fur baby's ashes on the desk. When he handed her urn to me it there was no weight to it ?! Then he showed me her ashes that were inside a plastic bag; (if these were even my dog's ashes ???). I noticed that it was a very little amount for a 9 lb dog, which was very suspicious. Because of this odd amount, I researched the amount of my 9 lb. fur baby's ashes that I should've received. Her ashes should've equated to three to five pounds of cremated ashes ! And when I realized that it was way too little for my fur baby's ashes for her original human, in her bag. I asked if he could put a little bit more into her bag. When he did this he did not take proper care he opened up my bag of my precious baby's ashes and carelessly began to pour some into the other bag ! While he was doing this careless act, he spilled some of my baby's ashes onto the desk- ( again...if this was even my fur baby's ashes) and just non-chalantly swept my fur baby's ashes on to the floor !! In that moment, I regretted taking my friend's advice and to take my baby to this place ! Considering the way me and my precious fur was treated I really regret taking her to this place ! I regret not taking my precious fur baby to Falls Road Animal Hospital to be sent off for cremation. Because it was more affordable and she and I would have been treated more respectfully. And Falls Road gives you options of what type of urn you want for your fur baby; not some cheap box ! I must say, I do believe that my race played a part in the way me and my precious fur baby was treated ! I would never suggest anyone, especially POC, use this place if you truly love your fur baby. And if you want to be treated humanely during your grief of the loss of your precious fur baby !!

Since our dog's primary clinic had already closed for the day, we urgently needed emergency care. We started calling around but had difficulty finding a veterinarian in Alexandria who could see us right away--until we reached the Veterinary Emergency Group at 4525 Duke Street. From the moment they answered the phone, the experience was exceptional. The staff member who took our call immediately reassured us that Tammy could be treated and calmly instructed us to bring her in right away. That reassurance alone meant a great deal during what was a very stressful moment. When we arrived, Dr. Rohan Shah saw Tammy immediately and began treating her without delay. His professionalism, calm demeanor, and clear expertise were incredibly reassuring. He and the entire staff treated Tammy with urgency, compassion, and genuine care, while also taking the time to explain what was happening and what they were doing to help her. Thanks to their quick action and outstanding care, Tammy was in the best possible hands during a frightening situation. The level of professionalism, kindness, and efficiency we experienced was truly remarkable. I cannot recommend the Veterinary Emergency Group highly enough. If your pet ever needs urgent care, this is absolutely the place you want to go. Frank K.

So would we come back to VEG ER, an emergency veterinary clinic? Yes, an emphatic yes as a matter of fact. The staff, including the two doctors who examined and treated Pablo were professional, calm, reassuring and compassionate. The only exception was the one assistant who got ruffled when she tried to take Pablo's temperature rectally and he didn't like it and took a light swat at her. The assistant got pissed and dramatically tossed the thermometer back into a drawer. They gave Pablo a sedative, a pain shot, and an antibiotic. The sedative doesn't make the pet unconscious but limp like a rag doll. What I didn't know vets do is after the treatment, is to give pets a "de-sedative" to roust them. Pablito is recovering quickly and will be fine. The clinic also tries to put pet owners at ease, proving comfortable chairs, courtesy snacks and coffee. The clinic is one big room, what VEG ER calls an open concept. It was busy when we there, but we were still checked in and seen quickly. The clinic is modern with an admittance form that you can fill out and send in before you even get there. Their invoices and doctors notes are also available instantly and electronically.
