    This place is/was a GODSEND for me and my fur baby. She was attacked by a pitbull the morning of April 5, 2024. I was treated SO DELICATE, professional, and with care. Li Li was given EXCELLENT care as I didn't have an option to research where she could get the best care for her. Dr. Fox and his vetinary team---MAGNIFICENT! Li Li had a lengthy surgery and a 5 day stay. PRICEY, but I had to pull my funds together. This pet hospital also helped me in terms of options for financial assistance. The process was smooth, easy, and no whole lotta, whole lotta...it's such a sensitive time. I wish there was MORE I could do or say about this pet hospital and the care LiLi (we) received. I was able to call and check on her every night before bed and each morning about the time she and I would be out walking in the morning. I was always told, "No call from us is good news." But they were very patient with me, answered my questions, and would tell me about my baby, and I knew they weren't fibbing because it was her mode of operating. Dr. Fox and his team were informative and put me at ease with what Li Li and I are facing. Dr. Fox stated, "I want to give you back your dog, not just adog." HE DELIVERED! I'll spare the details of what went down, but the pitbull was not spared her life since she attacked LiLi and a neighbor and her dog that same morning while visiting my parents. The dog owner has since been contacted and is remorseful and is reimbursing my vet bills, as he did for the neighbor as well. Li Li is doing GREAT!!!! See her pics. We continued with our move to California, and we're living our best lives. Oh, Li Li is 14 (human) years young and healthy, a ball of energy, and WELL LOVED!     After bringing my sweet little dog back and forth to the hospital, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him to sleep. It was a difficult thing to do, but the understanding and support I received was overwhelming. They walked that fine balance between giving my Simon the care he needed and allowing me to come to the conclusion that more money wasn't going to change his outcome. The kindness from everyone, front desk, techs and the vet were awesome. I hope I never need their services again, but the fact that they are right in my own backyard gives my much comfort

    I took my Olde English Bulldogge, Boss, to Waldorf Emergency Care just after midnight on 9/21/2021 after he began having multiple seizures earlier in the evening. He had never been sick before this. When I called to tell them I was on my way, instead of being greeted with the utmost concern and empathy for my dog I was informed of a list of associated costs and asked if the fees were ok with me. Money was not an issue and I continued to Waldorf Emergency Care. They took Boss in and while waiting in my vehicle I received a call from the veterinarian attending Boss. Although I was told that I could call at anytime for an update, I never received another personalized call from Waldorf Emergency Care. He remained their for 2 days and I was able to pick him up along with several medications on the morning of 9/22/2021. He appeared fine and we went home. Meds were administered at the provided times and all was ok until the afternoon of 9/23/2021 when Boss suddenly had several facial seizures. I immediately called Waldorf Emergency Care and told her what happened and explained they were happening every few minutes and he was foaming at the mouth. She informed me to read over my paperwork provided when they released Boss and told me to document the date and times of the seizures and to contact my regular vet for any issues. Once again there was no concern for Boss. I called back and asked to speak to the vet and was told that the vet who saw Boss wouldn't be in until 6:30PM and I was more than welcome to call back. Being that it was only 4:30PM, I got Boss and rushed him to Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty in Bowie, MD. When I called, their first concern was the well-being of Boss and not how large my wallet was. The drive was much farther than it would have taken me to get to Waldorf and he was not in great shape when we arrived. They cared for him to the best of their ability until Boss passed on Friday evening, 9/24/2021 at 8:10PM. I called Waldorf Emergency Care on the afternoon of 9/27/2021 and asked to speak with the office manager. They asked what it was in reference to and I advised I had a complaint. They said she was busy but took my name and number and promised she would call back...As of 10/1/2021 I have yet to receive that call.

We started calling around but had difficulty finding a veterinarian in Alexandria who could see us right away--until we reached the Veterinary Emergency Group at 4525 Duke Street. From the moment they answered the phone, the experience was exceptional. The staff member who took our call immediately reassured us that Tammy could be treated and calmly instructed us to bring her in right away. That reassurance alone meant a great deal during what was a very stressful moment. When we arrived, Dr. Rohan Shah saw Tammy immediately and began treating her without delay. His professionalism, calm demeanor, and clear expertise were incredibly reassuring. He and the entire staff treated Tammy with urgency, compassion, and genuine care, while also taking the time to explain what was happening and what they were doing to help her. Thanks to their quick action and outstanding care, Tammy was in the best possible hands during a frightening situation. The level of professionalism, kindness, and efficiency we experienced was truly remarkable. I cannot recommend the Veterinary Emergency Group highly enough. Upon arrival, the staff greeted us at the door and escorted us back to a comfy room with a couch so we could sit comfortably with our fur baby. Since this was our first time going through the procedure, the entire process was explained in detail. They also gave us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. Finally, we received a beautiful card in the mail signed by the staff which was so thoughtful and meant a lot to our family. Our hearts are still heavy but the staff at VEG ER made the process bearable. We are so thankful for their big hearts.

I regret not taking him to any other emergency animal hospital for his end of life purposes. I called the Georgetown location initially as I was in a state of panic (he was ten plus years old, I adopted him in December 2025 knowing he had a heart murmur and was also deaf. He was brought to DC by who saved him from a kill shelter and he was very loved) as he had simply collapsed on the dining room floor and passed away immediately - traumatizing to say the least. The woman who answered my call at the Georgetown location was helpful and she gave me the phone number to the closer location to me - H Street. Once we arrived, I called the phone number to let them know we were there as we needed assistance getting him inside (they were aware of this and instructed me to call upon arrival). I was outside of the door watching my phone call go unanswered as my mother, a retired vet tech, and brother-in-law waited at the car with my deceased boy. After a dozen rings, my call was answered and they informed me they would get a stretcher and meet us outside. They were prompt in getting him from the car without any further communication. I followed them into the building and they took him into a room and immediately left. I sat there with his body wrapped in a blanket on the table/stretcher until another person came in. I was handed a clipboard and told to fill out the paperwork and once complete, to ring the bell and they would come back in. There was NO introduction. No asking of his name or what had happened. No care whatsoever about who he was or how he passed. I, devastated and distraught, offered a bit of his story up and it was dismissed rather quickly. The paperwork was taken and I was told to go up front and pay. My dog was left there in a blanket on the table like a heap of garbage. Nobody, not one person, introduced themselves to us. Not a single person took the time to show any sympathy or interest in us or my dog. They never uncovered him to take a look, they never touched him, nothing. Not a single person took the time to explain anything or offer any kind of condolences. It was the most ingenuine, harsh, impersonal and downright disturbing experience I have ever been a part of. The hospital had doctors on the floor and no other animals were in sight. I am not saying that there weren't any present or that there weren't vets and/or vet techs tending to other patients - but I am saying that there was absolutely no reason whatsoever that my dog and I received little to no attention or interest. The entire thing from the moment we walked in to the minute we left was no more than 10 or so minutes. It was disgusting. Furthermore, in ALL of the times I have had to take my past dogs in for their end of life moments to various other emergency vets, I have always received, at the very least, an email or automated text offering condolences on the passing of my animals. All were always followed by a card or note of some sort. I chose the communal cremation, as I always have, and am extremely disappointed in the lack of follow up after trusting VEG with my boy at the end of his life - which was not much to expect given the horrible and disturbing experience I had when choosing VEG for my dogs end of life cremation and carry. This is not the place to go if you want someone to care. It was nothing more than a monetary gain for them and it was truly disheartening and extremely upsetting in every way. I will never recommend VEG to anyone - not for primary care nor end of life services and I can certainly guarantee that I will be in touch about my experience with the right people and organizations in an effort to prevent anyone else from having to say goodbye to their beloved pets the way I had to at VEG. I am unwell over the entire experience and I will be very vocal about it to the right people. I discourage anyone from choosing VEG.

I called this practice and they immediately connected me with a vet to talk through her symptoms. They suggested I bring her in just to be safe. When I arrived, I was checked in right away and even offered a drink or snack. A doctor quickly came out to make sure nothing was urgent, and after about a 20-30 minute wait we did a full exam. The team was so patient and kind--consulting with each other, keeping me with my dog the whole time, and making sure she was comfortable throughout. Thankfully it ended up being full anal glands and some irritation. They took care of it and gave me guidance on meds (which I already had on hand). Checkout was the biggest surprise: only $205, which feels incredibly reasonable for Northern Virginia. The clinic was clean, organized, and calm, and it was obvious the pets there were genuinely cared for (even the ones in cones having a rough day). For a stressful night, this place made it a really good experience.

The staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty were amazing from the moment we walked in. They were extremely thorough while showing such care and concern for Duke. They explained what was happening, were transparent about the cost, and gave an honest assessment of the prognosis for our baby. Dr. S explained our options and gave us time to process everything. She answered all our questions and reassured us that there was no right or wrong way to go. Ultimately, we made the heartbreaking decision to let Duke go and she supported it, agreeing it was the kindest choice given his age, prognosis, and his current state. When I asked her what she would do for her own fur baby given the circumstances, Dr. S was transparent and told us she would do the same. That gave us a small bit of comfort that we weren't rushing into it prematurely. Dr. S gave us referrals to a few vets who could come to our home to help us with Duke's final care. We chose Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, who were equally wonderful during such a horrible time. We appreciate all of the staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty, from the folks at the front desk to the nurses and doctors. There were small things that I appreciated... when they brought our baby to us, they put down a plush blanket so he could be comfortable and not laying directly on the floor. Also, right before we left, one of the nurses even came in to say goodbye to Duke and tell him he was a sweet boy. She loved on him and that small gesture will always stick with me. I thank everyone for showing such love and support during one of the most difficult times in my family's life. I would absolutely recommend Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty to anyone needing care for their fur baby.

We made an appointment, and before we arrived (same day) they had retrieved her records from our previous vet. The urgent care vet had read through the last few years of her history, we barely had to explain anything. EMMAvet has lots of testing facilities on site so we didn't have to wait too long for results. They gave us multiple treatment options, but they were honest about our cat's condition. Soon after, we determined it was time to euthanize our kitty. They have a special room for this, with comfortable chairs, Kleenex, and options for pet cremation containers if you want to get their ashes back. I really appreciated that they went through all the options and fees at the beginning. We paid before we had to go through the emotional euthanasia process, so we had alone time with our kitty in the last moments, and when she was gone, we could just leave. We experienced so much kindness and compassion from all the staff. It's also very clean and attractive. I only wish we'd found them sooner.

    It's been about a month since our experience with Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Hospital, and…read moreI've been wanting to share this. Our anxious 9-year-old dog, Bubba, had been sick for about a day and a half--vomiting, not eating, and not drinking water. At one point, he seemed to be improving, but around 5 a.m. on Easter morning, he was panting and pacing. We knew we had to take him to the ER. We were especially anxious because of our past traumatic vet visits, but we called ahead and were told they were still working through overnight patients and to bring him in so they could monitor him. Despite how weak he was--we had been carrying him up and down three flights of stairs--he insisted on walking into the ER himself. They took him to triage right away, and after a few hours (less than we expected), we were brought back to a room. Dr. Fleury came in, asked thoughtful questions, and recommended additional testing. We shared our past experiences and anxiety, and she was incredibly empathetic and reassuring. She made it clear that she wanted this experience to be different from the negative ones we had before--and she truly followed through on that. She suggested we go home while tests were being run. A couple of hours later, she called with an update: while most results looked normal, they found fluid in his abdomen and a mass near his trachea. She explained that an ultrasound could provide more clarity, but it wouldn't be available until the next day. We could either bring him home or admit him overnight. Although we had never left him before, we chose to admit him so he could be monitored and asked if we could see him again first. She immediately said yes. When we returned, the hospital was much busier, but we were brought fairly quickly to a quiet, private room that seemed away from the noise of other dogs. Dr. Fleury reviewed the X-rays with us, and it was clear things were serious. When she brought Bubba in, we could see he had declined--his belly was distended, his eyes were glazed, and he seemed uncomfortable and restless. Dr. Fleury stayed with us, explaining that even after consulting with colleagues, they couldn't determine the exact cause without more testing. She also understood our concern about leaving him overnight, especially if his condition worsened. We were both overwhelmed, and she handled the situation with incredible compassion. After spending time with Bubba, we came to the heartbreaking realization that he was suffering, and the dog we knew wasn't really there anymore. It was the hardest decision we've ever had to make, but we knew it was time. We spoke with Dr. Fleury again and asked her to be honest about his chances. She explained that while more testing was possible, there were no guarantees, and he could continue to decline. Through tears, we told her we didn't want him to suffer any longer. She gently agreed it was likely the best decision and supported us fully. From there, everything was handled with such care. The staff gave us time, space, blankets, and quiet guidance through the process. When the time came, Dr. Fleury and a vet tech sat with us on the floor. My wife held Bubba, and we were both there with him in his final moments. It was peaceful, and we were able to say goodbye with dignity and love. Afterward, we were given as much time as we needed and were able to leave quietly through a side door. Later, we received a handwritten condolence card from Dr. Fleury, which meant so much to us. Losing Bubba was devastating, but the compassion, patience, and humanity shown by Dr. Fleury and the entire team made an unbearable experience feel as gentle as it possibly could have been. She set out to ensure this would not be another traumatic vet experience for us--and despite the heartbreaking outcome, she did exactly that. Our experience was nothing short of exceptional. We are deeply grateful we ended up here. While we hope we don't need emergency care again anytime soon, we know exactly where we would go and who we would trust.

She did tell us it was a busy night (when we got there--it was overwhelming to see the various cases they were dealing with), and said even if we don't decide to wait at their facility we should take her to be seen. We decided to visit this emergency clinic anyway, and I'm very glad they handled her with so much caution and care. The vet assistant who triaged us came back multiple times with updates after our puppy was taken back (~1hr) and thanked us for our patience. It's important to note that while we were waiting with (and for) our puppy, multiple dogs came in on stretchers. Dr. McCullen was incredibly thorough and reassuring, while also being practical and rational.. we appreciated the extra step in providing an estimate for our services to that point. Albeit our case was not as severe or life-threatening as the others we saw, we still feel like we made the right decision coming in that night and I'm thankful our puppy was in the care of the right members of staff. I know they did their best with what they were dealt with and I'm very appreciative for their kindness and compassion. Our puppy is doing just great now.

    You want to spend thousands of dollars and have your dog die in the end? This is the place for you…read more You will bring your 19 month old puppy to the internal medicine department with chronic diarrhea and vomiting because her normal vet referred her to a specialist. The specialist will say "Change her diet" even though you will have told him that you've already done that multiple times. You'll follow his instructions and see no changes in your dog. She begins to lose weight even though she is eating. You will go back, your dog will still have diarrhea and vomiting, and he'll suggest doing an ultrasound. You get the ultrasound done, and he'll say he's found "abnormalities" and then suggest "changing her diet" instead of trying to treat the abnormalities, and if we really want to find out wrong, she'll need an endoscopy procedure. So, you'll change her diet again, see no changes other than increasingly concerning weight loss, and spend multiple thousands of dollars for the specialist to perform the procedure. Your dog will be under anesthesia for several hours while he obtains 20-30 biopsy samples. The results come back a week later and the specialist will point out further abnormalities and stomach ulcers, and suggest you "change her diet" instead of treating the problems. Three months will go by and your once vibrant, healthy 50 pound dog will now be a walking skeleton, losing roughly 20-25 lbs. You've done everything in your power to save her life. She will stop eating and drinking water altogether for 4 straight days and become unresponsive at times, spending her days laying helplessly on a bed, with no energy do move at all. Her body temperature will noticeably drop, even though the room is at 75* and she's under a blanket. She will struggle to climb stairs or hop down from the couch, when she does decide to move. You see her suffering and on CHRISTMAS MORNING you will make the painful decision to end that suffering. You will bring her to MedVet, where she has already been seen for 3 months, including an ER visit, where they suggested hospitalization and an estimate for services which she has already recently had done, instead of an IV or any real treatment, and the vet tech will come in with a cone, because she is scared a dog with no energy will bite her. That vet tech will then, with all the compassion and empathy in the world, pull your dog by her neck, trying to drag her to the back, so, apparently, the doctor can look at her. 10-15 minutes will go by and nothing will be discussed with you as to what's going on. Then, the American Hero, who was an Army vet will come into the room and tell you you have have beautiful Belgian Malinois and say that she used to treat them while she was in the Army, and even though yours is severely emaciated, and has IBD, she will not euthanize her. If we want, however, we can surrender her. No one will ask why you are there with your beloved family member on Christmas morning, trying to end her suffering. They will just assume you are a piece of garbage who does not want to take care of a sick dog. You will leave and endure watching your dog suffer another two days before her normal vet clinic reopens. So, after nearly $7000 of credit card debt from procedures performed by the specialist, and visits to the ER and clinic, and prescription medications with very little instructions, in order to try and save my dog's life, all I have to show from it is a lifetime of pain, many years of payments, and a little cedar box that contains the ashes of my beloved dog.
