Incredibly warm, welcoming and friendly staff, ample parking, clean facility and stellar customer service! As a new puppy mom, I want nothing but the best care and treatment for my Shorkie, Bella Joy. The Spay Spot was highly recommended by a dear, trusted friend and I could not have been happier with our experience and the services we received! From the appointment scheduling with Charity, to being greeted upon arrival by Holly [on our day of surgery], and checking in with Nya at the front desk, I was completely impressed and put at ease. Bella was extremely nervous but Holly immediately came to her rescue, even assisting with cleaning the "nervous mess" Bella made in her travel carrier on the ride from VA to MD! That's service above and beyond! Trusting strangers with your baby is always scary but I felt100% comfortable leaving Bella with the Spay Spot staff. I was provided a clear list of discharge instructions to review prior to the procedure, as well as an opportunity to ask any additional questions upon taking Bella home. All concerns were addressed BEFORE I was asked for payment, which I truly appreciated. The staff actually focused on providing personal attention and care for us rather than rushing to secure my payment! Dropped Bella off a little after 8 a.m. and picked her up at noon. (Perfect amount of time to grab a decent breakfast nearby!) You can actually SEE the loving care that was placed into Bella's spay procedure. (Belly images below). Post-spay drowsiness and no appetite but the morning after, Bella was back to eating, drinking and took her meds like a champ! Within 90 minutes, she'd returned to being our spunky baby girl, ready to play and nibble on fingers! Very affordable prices, to include take home pain meds and a protective cone. It came time to get my youngest pup spayed, and I am so glad that I chose to have this procedure completed at the Spay Spot! My review is purely based on the one experience with getting a spay, as I'm not sure of the other surgical services offered here. My dog is a golden retriever who is prone to anxiety, and she is my baby, so I really wanted to feel comfortable and ensure that she received the best care. I immediately felt at ease here. The surgery was quick, well done, and cost-effective! I highly recommend to all in the DMV for those looking for a spay location. Pros: Spay Surgery Cost: The cost of a spay here was very reasonable. I paid a total of $175 for the spay ($125) E-collar, meds and also a rabies shot, which I needed to get to keep my pup up to date. Efficiency: The whole surgery took about 2 hours, and the drop off process was very efficient as well. They will give you a call about 30 minutes before your pet is available for pick up. Surgery results: The surgery was performed very well. My pup quickly healed and did not seem to be in any pain. I feel that they really knew what they were doing, and did an excellent job spaying my pup! Friendliness: Everyone at this clinic was extremely friendly and genuinely helpful, it was truly a fabulous experience. The kind woman who took my pup in to the operation room had such a warm and joyful and comforting pretense, my usually anxious pup happily followed her into the room with no hesitation! Responsiveness: I had a few questions prior to spaying, and was able to get answers within 24 hours by calling the listed phone number, and leaving a message for Sue. I got a call back and clear and helpful advice. Scheduling Ease: It was pretty easy to schedule and reschedule my spay appointment. I was able to book an appointment sooooo much faster than I had been able to in the DC area, where there were waitlists up to 3-4 months. I called and was able to get on the schedule within the next month here-- a huge relief! Other: Location: (For my DC folks) If you don't have a car, this spot can possibly be a bit tough to get to, but I think it is still very worth it for the great experience, convenient scheduling, and relatively budget friendly prices of spay services. I actually ushered to the location from DC-- I will say, getting an uber here is a little bit of a test of patience, but it is possible, and most Ubers are pretty chill with transporting a well behaved pup as long as you bring a blanket to lay down to protect their car, and as long as you give them a bit of a heads up before they pick you up! Adoption services and microchipping: The spay spot also seems to offer adoption and possibly fostering opportunities as well. As I was waiting to drop off my pup, I say many of the pups who had been rescued being transported into the clinic with care and love. The people who work here really seem genuinely great! read more

Took my pups here for spay and neutering. It took a while for someone to return my call to schedule but they did explain that they were short administrative staff at one point. Scheduling was easy and the staff member who scheduled the procedures were pleasant as well. I appreciated the reminder call. Day of the procedure was organized given the amount of people who showed with their pets. The friendly staff that took my pups back were helpful in easing my nerves. They provided clear instructions for pick up and aftercare. They made themselves available for questions even a week or two after the procedures. The pricing was good especially since I have 2 dogs. I went to the Spay Spot location in P.G. Maryland. Mostly everyone there was Professional but except for a Mrs. Nero and a Mr. Fisher. A Security guard had approach me to inquire why I was sitting in a specific place after I was told I could sit there by another Security guard. Which I even had asked to do so and got permission to so. As another note, I was there to get my Son's Cat Spayed on that day and instead got the operation done and also got yelled at for Starters. Brushed off, Later Ignore and Never was afforded the opportunity to file a Formal Complaint about my experience On that day I was there I didn't deserve any of that having had happened to me. read more

ZERO STARS!!! I tried to call several times to make an appointment to get my dog neutered at 9am, 10am, 10:30am, 11am, 1pm, 1:30pm and every hour on the hour until 3 when the closer. NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I didn't know this place existed as a first time adult pet owner of two rabbits. I made the appointments on two different days to get them both neutered and spayed in the same week. I dropped them off at 7:30 and one was done by 10:00am and another by 12pm. The bunnies came home with clipped nails and ready to play a day later. Awesome service, friendly environment. read more

Outstanding place! Took my cat there because my normal veterinarian couldn't fit her in asap for a surgery to remove a lump we found on her. The Spay Spot was able to get her in immediately. I took my 5 month old rescue kitten there to be neutered. SpaySpot took great care of my baby. He was nervous, but recovered very easily. The price was far more reasonable than local D.C. spots, so I was happy to make the 30 minute trip to Upper Marlboro, MD. He was able to get his vaccinations, as well. Very pleased. read more

This is my second post about this place. This place is a high volume operation and their post op procedures are sorely lacking. They are not experienced with the need of special dog breeds but they will not admit to it. As a result, there can be tragic consequences as we have the experience the death of our beloved companion dog. when my bulldog's airway collapsed post surgery, they did nothing to save his life. Airway issues are common with bulldogs under anesthesia and this is not a death sentence. I have consulted with many vets and they told me that simple procedures are put in place to prevent such things. Even if it did happen, a vet can easily recognize the symptoms and stabilize the animal ( oxygen, tracheotomy etc) until they can get proper care. These are the things and knowledge that this place is lacking, and tragically, my beloved bulldog paid the price for it. The most traumatic thing about our experience is that the vet, Dr. K, who did the procedure, did not recognize the importance of responding immediately when she saw that my baby was struggling post op. She saw that his tongue was blue from lack of oxygen and his breathing was labored and raspy, and she did nothing. When I arrived to pick up my baby, I asked her to administer oxygen and she said we don't have the equipment. She told me to transport him to an ER but it was too late. If she didn't have the equipment, she could have arranged for him to be transported out to an emergency vet, but she didn't. Instead, my baby died slowly and painfully, suffocating to death, and his lungs filling up with fluid due to his labored breathing. He was in that condition post op for more than an hour. When I got him to the ER, he lasted a few more hours before dying. They tried everything to save him but it was too late. It is an incredibly painful way to die. This place needs to change its practice procedures to prevent such things going into the future. For now, I suggest you do not bring your loving companion there for any reason. read more

CREMATED MY DOG UNWILLINGLY!!!!!! this is a serious message to never send your dog to this location EVER! I took my dog here after he was sick. I was aware that my dog was close to death but I feel like what they did was unjust. They didn't even let me know that they had officially put my dog down along with cremating dog with another persons cat. Yes, you're reading this right. They cremated my dog with another cat and asked me if I wanted to keep the ashes. I'm going into further detail about this matter because something must be done. Please be careful where you send your pets guys!! If I could give this no star, I would. read more

The Spay Spot was referred to me by our vet tech at Ft. Belvoir. Our 5-month old lab did great following her spay surgery there! As a nurse, I was overly paranoid & nervous, but the staff there were great and loved on our baby girl the entire morning! Dropped her off at 7:30am & picked her up at noon!! Her incision is beautiful & hardly noticeable & she was back to her wiggly self the next day! $115 out the door & that was with nail clipping, pains meds, & E-collar (which we haven't needed). So grateful for this spay & neuter clinic at the Prince George Co. animal shelter who gives so many animals a chance of a happy, healthy life!!
