We came to VCA Southpaws as an emergency visit and Ted was lucky enough to be seen by Dr. Molero, who rushed him back since we were in a race against the clock before an intestinal blockage. He was given some medicine and threw it up right away, saving us from a very expensive surgery. Needless to say he lost the fight and needed emergency care. I called 4 nearby hospitals and they were booked solid. I called this facility and they promised to be ready to help upon arrival. I drove over an hour to utilize this animal hospital, staff met us at the door as promised, then quickly proceeded to treat him. They showed so much care & compassion! A few days ago, I noticed my pup refusing to walk even during nice weather days. His genitalia was dark red & inflamed. I took the voyage back to the hospital and received the same level of care that I remembered. They have an onsite pharmacy, so we went home with 3 Rx & an e-collar. He's healing slowly but surely. We have pet insurance and a wellness plan elsewhere, but I will pay out of pocket for the top tier service & 24/7 coverage that I receive here.

My dog goes to different practice because he was already on a plan when I adopted him and it made more sense to keep him on that plan, but my cats (& previous dogs) were patients here & we used to board our dogs here too. When they were good, I would constantly tell people to go here but after we had a hellish experience we shared our trauma & literally told people to stay far away from here! And we stayed far away from here! My good times here have been amazing & one of the vets saved my beautiful baby during the same hellish experience with the jerk of a vet who caused us to let go of our baby. But sadly the amazing vet moved and so I swore this place off! I needed a new vet and I really went down the rabbit hole of research and was actually brought right back here and I am so grateful that we found Dr. Candace Flynn! She is simply a dream and the most amazing, compassionate and caring vet I think I have ever met and my kitty is so comfortable with her it's pure love! Dr. Flynn, who deserves FIVE STARS+++, is also wonderful with her advice and guidance. She's very communicative and informative and just well-rounded with a holistic approach, but the amount of time and love she spends with your pet (and you) is priceless!!! They are a 24-hour emergency care, veterinary hospital, fully equipped, and fully staffed round the clock. They also have a separate, waiting room for dogs and cats to help ease the anxiety. They also have two sister hospitals in both Clifton and Arlington, Virginia. Yes, they are a bit pricier but you're inside the beltway & 15 minutes from DC so what do you expect?! Thankfully, there has been more good than bad and I know which vet to steer clear from & I still forewarn people about her! 7/2/27

From the moment we stepped through the door, every single person around us leapt into action to save our girl. I have never experienced an emergency to this severity with a pet and was an absolute mess myself when we brought her in. The team worked to quickly stabilize our cat and were so sensitive and kind with my husband and I as we were grappling with extreme anxiety and anticipatory grief. Dr. Watson was the veterinarian we dealt with in those first critical hours, and she somehow struck the perfect balance between professional and warm. She sat with us while we talked through the possibilities of what was happening, the plan for diagnostics, and the decisions we should be prepared to make. It felt like being taken care of by the most knowledgeable friend you've ever met. Once we determined our cat was going to make it and be hospitalized over night, we literally felt so comfortable leaving our girl in the care of the wonderful staff. They told us multiple times that we could call at any time for an update, and we took them up on this offer when I woke up in a panic around 4am. Dr. Beckford immediately got on the phone with me, providing me with a lengthy update and allowing me to ask as many questions as I needed to feel comfortable knowing our cat was doing well. The next day when we returned to pick up our cat, Dr. Shah took so much time talking through the details of her condition and what we would do to treat her at home in the future. Instead of just doing the bare minimum, it felt like he was caring for us and for our cat like she was his own. Even on our way out the door, every vet, tech, and staff member kept reminding us that we could call or message them at any point if we had further questions or concerns. They truly mean this - even after your pet has gone home, they will gladly help reassure you or answer questions if your pet's condition changes. Since this is an open concept ER, we watched this group of vets and techs interact with a variety of pet parents for 6+ hours and at every step, you could tell that they were performing above and beyond the call of duty to do the best thing for every one of the animals that came through their doors. We were on the receiving end of that empathy, thoughtfulness, and expertise at every single turn and I would highly encourage every dog or cat owner to keep this clinic in mind for any future emergency that you might have in the future.

I won't go anywhere else in the area and they do have other locations, which is great. Highly recommend - especially when you are in an emergency and you want excellent care fur your fur baby. While I hope to not have to go back anymore, it's very comforting to know they are there.

ALWAYS GET A 2ND OR 3RD OPINION before getting treatment at this location…read more I waited months to write this ro make sure my opinion isnt bases only on emotions but what happened. 1. I had my cat of almost 15 years euthanized based on the veterinarian opinion. Before hand they give you all the time you need alone with your pet. Needless to say I was in a room crying. After crying in the room. As I walked out of the room. A female doctor was imitating a fake ugly cry while the 2 other female doctors were laughing. I was literally just in the room crying. When the procedure is done they stop talking to you. I stood there for 15 minutes. They literally forgot to get rhe paw prints and fur. I had to remind them The lady at the front desk was very nice. They better not ever fire her cause her friendly demeanor is helping their business. The female doctors are catty like teen from mean girls. 2. They judged me based on my appearance. I felt bad about myself. Like I made them uncomfortable. I believe it was my hairstyle that was a distraction because the doctor couldnt hold eye contact without looking at my hair. 3. I felt judged because of my financial situation. I obviously dont expect and didnt ask anyone to work for free. I went there out of desperation for suggestions and to buy pain medicine and ointment to clean my cat eyes. 4. I did not like the way they made my cat scream. If she had done that before I wouldnt think anything of it. However she has NEVER screamed like that which is why I believe it was intentional. I regret taking her there in her last moments. I still remember that scream. I just pray she was fully transitioned and that I made the right decision for her. Please dont wait to get insurance. Get a 2nd opinion because ive met other pet owners who vets worked with them far as payment or showing them how to do certain things at home to care for their pet and cut cost. If I ever have a pet I would never step foot in that facility again.

However, when she went to check out, the front desk informed her the total was $297. At first, we were told the difference was due to the $92 office visit fee, which had never been disclosed or discussed with my wife before treatment. Later, the front desk called my wife back and changed the explanation, stating that the additional cost was actually due to the medication instead. The conflicting explanations made the billing process confusing and left us feeling misled. Transparent and consistent communication about pricing is important, and clients should be given an accurate estimate and a clear explanation of all charges before services are performed whenever possible.
