We've had Jeff do three projects on our 1910 house, the last one was a major remodel and addition. Jeff's experience in older homes really shows, he gave good advice and ideas, and even found us a place to live nearby when we moved out for the project. We enjoy the results every day and appreciate how well the new blends with the old. Subcontractors were efficient and did good work, and Jeff's crew is experienced and has been with him a long time. We're very grateful to Jeff and his team for converting our 1960s pool cabaña into a beautiful pool/guest house (ADU). Nott did all of the design, secured the necessary city permits, and managed every detail of the construction process. We appreciated the fact that Jeff (and, for many years, his father) has been part of the local South Pasadena community, and he understands the city's requirements inside and out, which is no easy task. Jeff is trustworthy--a family man who keeps his word--and a pleasure to deal with. We were pretty meticulous about certain design elements, and Jeff and his team were very responsive and patient in terms of making any required modifications to get things just right. Also, his background in carpentry was a real attribute in terms of the beautifully customized woodwork for the ceilings, floors, and cabinetry. Kudos to Alex Weber, who was integral to the day-to-day management of the project, including the sequencing of subs and helping us with the design elements and decisions regarding appliances, paint, etc. In fact, the entire Nott team was very professional and courteous throughout, despite the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic posed enormous challenges, including repeated work stoppages, protracted delays on the part of key suppliers, higher material costs, etc. Would we have chosen to undertake a major project during the pandemic? Of course not--it took much longer and was much more expensive than we had anticipated, but we chalk that up to unlucky timing, yet Jeff kept in constant communication throughout. In the end, we couldn't be more delighted by the end result--we are thoroughly enjoying our pool/guest house. read more

It has been around 3 years since our remodel w/ Tom and Jeff. We actually used them both separately before they became packaged together as a design/build team. We did an entire 2nd story (and no, don't try to live in the remodel no matter what anyone says). When we started the planning process, I went to the City of South Pas to review my house's prior permits; while there I asked the permit guy- so.... who are the most popular architects in town? Whose work reliably passes the city's review board? I got the short list from the guy and interviewed every single one, including a few who actually sit on the board. Tom was able to design within our budget (at the time we hadn't committed to any contractor, and he had his son Jeff come look over our plans so we could have a remodel that would work within our budget). After hearing horror stories from friends/neighbors, we went to the review meeting ready to plead our case, and literally, they smiled at Tom, listened to his summary, nodded, and we were done. That was totally worth paying for We vetted several contractors for the actual build, we chose Jeff because of the timeliness of his estimate, the actual estimate (we liked that the payments were broken down and attached to completion of specific items), and his willingness to hold our hands as new remodelers (we asked a lot of questions throughout the process, and he always answered my lengthy emails quite thoroughly). The 2 questions everyone wants to know- yes, we stayed on budget, and no, the 6 month estimated remodel actually took 9 months. However, based on our friends' experiences, a 3 month delay for something a finished product I'm completely happy was totally fine. During the remodel- Jeff's crew were all super nice. My son was 3years old at the time, in his Bob the Builder phase, and the crew were so nice about showing him things, and letting him hammer away... He had a blast. (He still remembers Pablo!) Unexpected things came up- as they usually do in an almost 100yr old house- and... Jeff stuck to the contract. No markups. He stuck with every single agreement we ever made, no last minute upcharges. Whether it was something big like 100-yr old electrical wiring not being up to code, or us being unable to decide on the right shade of gray paint, Jeff stuck with the costs he promised us. Jeff knows the craftsman look perfectly, so I trusted him on many things that turned out great. There were other things where I had a very specific vision of what I wanted, and I detailed those out very clearly to him. He was able to execute everything that I specifically wanted. As we were finishing up, he hired his designer Clara, who was wonderful to work with and would have been nice if we had been unsure of design ideas. We did choose certain vendors ourselves- tile, fixtures, lights, etc to keep down costs, and Jeff was willing to work with us on that. Now that the remodel has been over for a few years, I can say, Jeff was right when he told us- with a good remodel you only cry once... Once we moved in, there were no unattended details, everything was complete. Since then, everything has remained in excellent condition. Whenever I've had a house-related question, I feel comfortable asking Jeff, and he always answers. The remodeling process is inherently expensive and exhausting. We love our house and we appreciate the excellent quality work Jeff completed. read more

We had Jeff do some work on our garage that required re-centering our roof. We received 3 estimates and Jeff was by far the most reasonably priced. I really appreciated that Jeff took care of everything from beginning to end. He took care of getting the city permits and worked with our prior architect which saved us time and money. What was really impressive was that Jeff was always at our house when he said he would be and he explained everything in a concise and professional manner. The work was completed in the promised timeframe and jeff's team was professional, pleasant and kept the property clean. I couldn't have been happier and was thoroughly impressed with how smoothly the project went. My wife and I used Jeff Nott on our remodel w/ additions. I must say that Jeff was always available, on site everyday and had a great crew. His suggestions on some if the little details were excellent and we valued his input on which direction to go on some of the finish work. Another thing about the job we liked was that every subcontractor showed up on time and did what they were supposed to do when they were supposed to do it. We used Nott & Associates (Jeff Nott) for some extensive upgrading/updating of our home. Prior to moving into our house, there were a number of items that needed critical attention (i.e., electrical, plumbing, painting, sprinklers, miscellaneous repairs, et al.) Jeff quickly and professionally addressed them all. Jeff and his guys were extremely responsive and attentive to detail, and kept me informed about the progress the entire time. We were moving in by a date certain and Jeff was considerate of the date we wanted to move in and finished well ahead of schedule. I have recommended Jeff to everyone I can, given the quality and great work he did on our house. And the great thing about Jeff is that with the completion of the work, the relationship does not end there. Even after the work was completed, Jeff has been a great resource for referrals and advice on home repairs and upgrades. My family and I have used Jeff Nott and his team for a few projects between two houses in South Pasadena, one very large complete remodel and a couple smaller ones (bathroom remodel and several indoor touch-ups). We have been very pleased with the results of their work. The team members have been with him for many years, and are trustworthy craftsmen and artisans. They will certainly not provide the lowest bid, but the workmanship is impeccable and the price was fair. Jeff was always available by phone or email, and checked in regularly on all the projects. The complete remodel presented a number of unique and difficult logistical issues, and Jeff was patient and helpful throughout the process. The designs were beautiful and carefully considered, and the work took a reasonable amount of time given the special circumstances. Permits were shockingly quick and painless (especially givean the city's notoriously slow and obtrusive board). We would definitely use his team again for any significant future work. read more

My family recently used Jeff Nott of Nott Construction for a full kitchen and bathroom remodel. It was a nightmare experience and I would NOT recommend his services to anyone. He took $75,000 up front and then delayed work for months. Once construction finally began, the pace was painstakingly slow. In addition, he failed to put the money given to him toward our project. His employees and subcontractors were not being paid and we ended up having to pay them directly out of our pockets because he couldn't come up with the money we had given him. He had little to no supervision of the project and consequently many expensive mistakes were made. Jeff estimated 3 months to complete the job and it ended up taking 10 months. My family was without a kitchen for 7 of those months. We could and should have sued for felony theft (we finally consulted a lawyer half-way through the job and we have plenty of evidence for this) but did not do so in order to have the project finished. I do not know how he is still in business and will do my best to warn everyone of his illegal and unethical business practices so that no one else is taken advantage of. read more

Jeff has helped since the purchase of a total fixer upper. Retaining wall, support buildings, windows. doors, and floors which were of by 8 inches. More recently we needed a ceiling that had collapsed in a support building. The work was done expertly with cleanup as good as new. Highly recommend him and his crew. read more

Jeff Nott of Nott Construction provided us with a "front loaded" contract ($175,000) for a kitchen/bath remodel to take 3 months. After 3 weeks he was due (per contract) $75,000. After this his work slowed down and stopped. We found he was not paying his subcontractors and suppliers nor the "employees" he did not claim on his Contractors License. During this time we had NO kitchen! This project took 10 months to complete. We were without a kitchen for 7 months. Jeff Nott was untruthful with us as to why our project stopped. We consulted an attorney (we could and should have sued for felony theft) but agreed to pay the subs and suppliers directly to get the job done. We found Jeff Nott lacking in supervision and oversight of our job. He also showed no planning or attention to detail. Many things were delayed because of this. His subs were very rushed and payed little attention to detail also. We had a limestone slab installed with NO ONE from Nott Construction present. It was installed incorrectly and had to be torn out and redone. It took 3 MONTHS (slab was available) to redo because of "who was going to pay for it". We paid for the original limestone slab and Jeff wanted the tile person to pay for the redo. Jeff finally paid 3 months later and the bath was finished. Our job always seemed to suffer the consequences for his actions. His lack of professionalism, planning and honesty was evident throughout. I would like to praise the Project Designer Clara Sanchez. We found her to be a very qualified and talented professional and a HUGE asset to the company. read more

Jeff did a beautiful job on a full-gut remodel of our guest house. He took it down to the studs and put it all back together with a much better layout and function. Jeff was very helpful in making small updates to the plans as we went to make things work slightly better -- for example, once we took it to the studs Jeff was able to see that we could add substantial seismic reinforcement if we moved a closet over by about a foot. We made the change and he was able to reinforce an interior wall that had not previously been updated. He a long history in the greater South Pasadena / SGV area and knows the story of many homes and blocks by designer and builder. He was respectful of the traditional style of the guest house and preserved its charm, but delivered a vastly more functional house. He was able to upgrade a lot of systems seamlessly as well (such as managing to add central air to a 1901 structure without compromising its integrity). read more

Tom and Jeff both worked together on our remodel several years ago and did a great job. Tom's designs utilized the space well and opened up our home, creating an excellent floor plan by opening up walls and completely redesigning and relocating the kitchen. Jeff's crew is fabulous! Hard-working, trustworthy guys who were always willing to do whatever I asked. We had an issue with our roof leaking that was caused by the plumber Jeff had hired to install our tankless water heater. Jeff stood by the work and reimbursed us the cost of repairing the roof, even though it had been 5 years since the work was done. The quality of Jeff's work is excellent. read more

The main support beams (8 x 14) under my house on pillars was rotting. Nott supported the house on jacks took out the rotten beams, put in new beams and there was essentially no cracking of drywall. He did a great job on schedule at his agreed price. The price wasn't cheap but it was fair. He also replaced my balconies with durable "Trex". I think he is a superb major contractor: honest, fair and capable. read more

At our first meeting Jeff (Nott) volunteered that a homeowner's relationship with his/her contractor is a partnership similar to a marital partnership. That is exactly how Jeff ran things during the seven months that we spent adding on to and remodeling the back of our 1899 Victorian--its kitchen, laundry room, butler's pantry, and new brick deck. All aspects of our job were handled knowledgeably and with frequent communication, and the work was performed by competent employees (and subcontractors) whose upbeat personalities and creative skills added to an overall pleasant construction experience. Given the age of our home, my desire to incorporate period touches (such as a "salvage", beveled and leaded glass door and sidelights), and our preference for 4" LED can lights, in- and under-cabinet direct wire LED bars, and a Solatube, there were many challenges. These were handled with a give and take that ensured that the final product was one all will enjoy. We considered seven different contractors and spent many years planning this job. Now that it is finished and the final photos developed, we can say that we HIGHLY recommend Nott Construction for any job in the area that his construction company services. read more

Jeff and his crew gave us exactly what we were aiming for: a great looking, perfectly functioning bathroom, utility room, and kitchen remodel that stayed within our budget - not an easy job on a 85 year old house that still had original plumbing and wiring. His crew showed up on time every day, did conscientious and careful work on everything they touched, and were respectful of our schedules and household needs as they worked. His subs are outstanding craftspeople; especially his cabinet maker and hardwood floor sub. The floor is beautiful and holding up very well. The new cabinets in the kitchen are a work of art; gorgeous to look at and a joy to use.
