Chris and his team did an outstanding job on a gut renovation of our 1957 kitchen. I'm a furniture designer and came to him with the design, including a floor plan, elevations, and renderings. I had already ordered custom cabinets that had a several month lead time and I found Chris through Bobby at Pristine Windows, who I had previously worked with. Scope included full demo to studs, all new electrical and plumbing, frame/install new larger windows and skylight, insulation, drywall, paint interior/exterior, stucco exterior, install custom RTA cabinets, refinish solid oak flooring, install baseboards throughout rest of home, and appliance installation. All work permitted. Quality of work - I'm a very particular client and there were many things I wanted done in a specific way. The new skylight had to intersect with existing 4x6 rafters we wanted to keep visibly penetrating the light shaft. The height of the new windows was maximized to fit between the counters and increased header, the tile had to align with the range hood and be flush with the drywall, the custom cabinetry was ordered precisely so all the dims in the room had to be accurate, the caulking around the cabinet was painted to match the cabinets (very tiny brushes). Lots of stuff like that which require a little more finesse, planning, and coordination between trades. When there were issues, such as the plaster being slightly curved around the skylight, somebody came the next day to address it. Issues - We had our roof redone at the same time by a roofing contractor we had previously worked with and while Chris would prefer to have his guys and subs doing all the work for seamless quality and warranty purposes, he was flexible and worked well with the other contractor on an issue with the interface of the new skylight curb and new roof. Communication - Chris set up a Whatsapp group to keep all communication and documents in one place. He would typically give a heads up on who is coming the next day or we'd reach out and he'd respond quickly. Money - Very fairly priced and more transparent than other contractors. Chris is running the entire operation--there isn't a front desk admin handling communication and billing and there isn't a big boss who you'll never meet. I prefer this as you're not paying that admins salary or for the boss's AMG. We loved that his contract had line items for many things. This allowed us to keep the project close to our budget. He was pretty good about giving us a heads up on potential changer orders and that accounted for a very small percent of the overall fee. There were even instances where money was taken off (e.g. the contract included his guys painting baseboard, but I ended up applying an oil finish myself). Timeline - We broke ground on October 7 and wrapped up December 19. Just under 11 weeks. One of the big drivers of timing was the 3+ weeks waiting for stone counters to be cut. I was using my own stone fabricator for that part of the job and they're a busy shop that usually takes about 2 weeks. However, there was an issue with one of the slabs I chose, so swapping slabs added some time. If we were using an engineered slab, it would have easily shaved off 2+ weeks. Problem Solving Attitude - Very positive. Chris is the type who knows his team can figure out a way to accomplish the task. A lot of contractors seem to present clients with a string of obstacles about why certain things can't be done. I found Chris and his guys amenable to the more custom aspects of the design especially related to the skylight, under cabinet lighting, sending power to the peninsula, and installing tricky pieces like the Hafele Magic Corner. We're super happy with the results and will be calling Chris the next time we're ready for a remodel! read more

During the height of pandemic, with everyone selling, buying, and remodeling their homes, we were lucky enough to find Chris who responded to our inquiry. We wanted to combine the dining room and kitchen to make one large kitchen space with a full-size waterfall island. We would also be redoing the entire first floor flooring. Chris personally took us to look at counter-tops in Orange County as well as in LA to look at cabinets. Extraordinary service! We felt well taken care of by Chris and that he genuinely wanted to make our kitchen exactly how we wanted. We would float ideas we had and he found a way to make it work. In contrast, during our search for a contractor before finding Chris, they would tell us what we should do rather than listen to what we wanted. Once everything had been settled, Chris and his team went to work on our kitchen. They tore down the wall, installed electrical, ensured the house was structurally sound. The workmanship was impeccable! His guys were all very professional and asked for our input every step of the way. It didn't feel like any shortcuts were taken because they didn't want to do somethign difficult. The project took longer than anticipated due to the shortage of materials during the crazy pandemic remodeling rush. Total construction took about 8 weeks but it was totally worth it. We hired Chris and his company to remodel our kitchen. He was recommended by our plumber who we have known and trusted for many years. Our kitchen was a hundred year old ugly mess and we didn't want to move into our new house with such a bad, falling apart kitchen! Chris gave us a reasonable estimate for what all the work would cost and tried very hard to stay within that price. Saw the positive reviews so we contacted this company through yelp. Got an immediate response from Chris. Talked on the phone and sent him the plans. Chris said he would get back to us within a week with a an estimate. Didn't hear back so we called him. He said he has been busy with a pretty huge project and that he will get back to us the week after. We called again. Same go around. Third time we called, he sounded annoyed. Chris, if you're busy, it's 100% fine to say you can't take on any more projects. Most customers like us will understand if you told us that. Telling us a few times that you're busy and will get back to us but end up ghosting us isnt a good way to do business. read more

Chris remodeled three bathrooms for us in the last three months. One of our bathrooms was a rental unit which flooded and required all new plumbing and the other two were in our residence. Chris is honest, VERY reliable and will be added to your favorites on your IPhone! As with any remodel, things don't always go as planned, Chris always answered my phone calls and handled stressful situations in a timely manner. When you have to put tenants up in a hotel room and remodel a bathroom, it gets expensive. Chris was always conscientious of cost and time. He finished our Tenant's bathroom with completely new underground piping within 2 weeks. Amazing! He was so efficient, we decided to have him do our residence. Chris is a personable, reliable, and trustworthy contractor who helped us renovate a home we purchased recently. Though he is busy, he will always make time to answer questions and come to the property in person to take a look at issues. He pays close attention to details and was able to give us good advice and guidance during the entire planning process. We hired him to do a complete remodel of the kitchen, refinish hardwood floors, paint all of the interior of the house, redo fireplace, and get rid of arches inside the house. We had four bids for a bathroom and bedroom wall addition, and Chris was our choice for contractor. We had a design we presented to him, and basic drawings for the city's approval. He provided a good contract with a good price. Project started in July with a 30-45 day timeline. Chris is professional, licensed and bonded!!! 1. Quality: Although we provided the design and many of the fixtures, Chris provided all of the building materials. My brief assessment was that quality and materials were all in good shape. The framing and basic electrical passed inspections on the first inspectors visit. Some of the workers were very good, but all were a bit messy. The site was quite a mess more often then not, par for the very dusty course of construction. I also would prefer if Chris had a bit more oversight on his employees. Sometimes they had little direction or knowledge of their exact scope (work) at hand, and sometimes they were just spot on experts. I think Chris was pretty busy, and I know he mentioned health/family issues, so this may account for some of this. I did have to give workers direction a few times, so be prepared. In the end, whenever I expressed a concern about finishing work, Chris addressed it and ensured I was satisfied with the final product. It is not all perfect, but it is very good!! 2. Cost: I would say Chris has a very fair estimating process (he is very knowledgeable in this area). He still provides good quality for this price, and again always ensured we were happy. For example he delivered base board for install and when I let him know it was not to my liking he quickly had a different product delivered. The only place quality was a bot short was in matching my design. Although he did bid on my design, one element (the shower door) was likely out of his cost estimate, and harder to come by. So for the sake of time, we simply agreed on a simpler more affordable shower door. Make sure any specialty design ideas are truly hashed out early on, it would have made things easier if he had communicated this earlier (likely another place delays were encountered). 3. Timing: This was probably the biggest pain point, though I understand this is QUITE common in construction. Our final "usable" bathroom was closer to twice the estimate (about 90 days). I am sure Chris could speak to the various reasons, but it was very frustrating at the time. In the end, we finished in about four months and we were so relieved to move in to the master bedroom (with new bath) that we could hardly care about the long, dusty, dirty desert we had endured :). We are happy, despite the long delays, with the new space Chris has provided. Chris definitely cares about his work, lives up to the contract (try to get everything in email or writing as usual for all construction work, I missed a few opportunities here), and wants work to be finished correctly. If he added a clean-up crew, and a stronger schedule (risk assessment and a little better planning) that would also make a big difference. Good luck making your space wonderful. read more
