Small restaurant downtown Hickory with hometown vibes. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The bar had a nice selection. I really enjoyed the blueberry lemon drop! I had the hangover burger with home fries and also tried the open face chicken biscuit and the grits. I enjoyed the food and felt the prices were very reasonable. The outside patio area is very large so although the restaurant is pretty small they are able to seat a lot of ppl.

Had an amazing dinner last night at Notions. We got started off with the Peach Margarita special. It was amazing. Everyone enjoyed their various cocktails. We had the Spinach Artichoke Dip, which was a large portion that the four of us didn't finish. However, it was awesome. I enjoyed the Salmon special. The salmon was encrusted and had a delicious maple sauce. The Brussels are always delicious, and i thought the mashed potatoes were excellent. My wife had a delicious chicken cibbata sandwich with fries, and our friends loved their burgers. Service was good. Love the layout of the restaurant. It's cozy and intimate.

Smothered open face. It's fried chicken under gravy served with eggs and potatoes.

Brunch at this place was absolutely amazing!! The filet mignon with eggs and potatoes was the best! Their gravy is amazing too! I love the sausage gravy, that was my husband's favorite thing here. The Bloody Mary and the breakfast martini were great! I ordered a tequila sunrise and that was even better. Highly recommend that you check this place out anytime you are in the Hickory area. They have a farmer's market in the same shopping center on Saturdays. Definitely check it out!

Notions is an eclectic restaurant and bar in Downtown Hickory. It is located in a plaza that houses a bunch of local restaurants and boutiques, making it an ideal place to grab food in the area. This is not a lot of room in the restaurant as my cousins and I had to sit at the bar on a Wednesday night as the tables were all filled. There is seating outside, but it was too cold for that to happen. Service is fairly quick and good. The restaurant gives a vibe that is a mix between fine dining (mostly due to the prices) and casual (due to the ambiance). I ordered the Cajun Chicken Alfredo and split the Charcuterie Board and Tempura Cauliflower. The Charcuterie Board was aesthetically arranged. It came with a warm, buttery, and salty bagel that we used to eat with the cheeses and cured meats. I thought the bagel was a bit too salty for my liking, but my cousins enjoyed it. I think the star dish of the night for me was the Tempura Cauliflower. I am a big fan of anything fried, especially vegetables, and this was delicious! There was a lot of batter surrounding the cauliflower pieces, but I enjoyed it. This dish also came with three yummy sauces (Chipotle Mayo, blue Cheese, and Thai Chili) which paired well with the Tempura Cauliflower. For my main meal, I got the Cajun Chicken Alfredo. I did not think that this was that great, mostly because I felt like there was a lack of seasoning to really make it a "cajun" pasta and at times, it tasted a bit like macaroni and cheese to me. While I saw that this dish would come with cavatappi, I think it would have been better with fettuccine or linguine as the noodle of choice. I just do not know if macaroni type pasta is suited for an alfredo pasta dish. I would probably give this restaurant a 3.5/5 stars if I could. Overall, I think Notions is worth checking out if you are in Hickory. Lots of people, especially locals, enjoy the restaurant so it really just depends on your taste buds. But if you choose not to check it out, there are also lots of other restaurants in the area that serve similar dishes as Notions!

Cobb salad with blue cheese dressing- just ok. Needed something more for texture and lacked flavor.

We have dined here twice and both meals were very good! A little room for improvement, but definitely worth future visits!! Their outdoor dining is very pleasant on a mild evening. Last night I had the filet with potatoes and brussel sprouts, same thing I had on my previous visit and it is a 10 out of 10! Flavor, portion and cost! Excellent!! My wife had the sliders for her meal and the first time we had them they were very juicy and flavorful, last night they were dried out and ended up as part of our dogs meal for the evening. Also, their fries are just frozen crinkle fries, would have figured something a little more from a nicer restaurant. We shared a cobb salad to start with blue cheese dressing and it was good, but not great. Needed something else for texture and lacked flavor. Our service was good and we thought our server did a great job!! The food runner from The kitchen had the personality of sandpaper... maybe she wasn't having a good evening? But in a customer facing role I think you need to be a little happier and not rude. They forgot my wifes fries and when she mentioned this to the food runner she argued that it hadn't been rung up instead of saying something like let me check on that. Then our server walked up and she kind of argued with him in front of us. That probably should've been a back of restaurant discussion and not arguing with the customer. All that being said! We like it here and WILL return!! We may skip the cobb and sliders, but the filet is excellent!! And good ambience!! To those about to dine, I salute you!!

My ABSOLUTE favorite place to visit in Hickory anytime I can. It's hard to know where to even start with the compliments. The staff goes above & beyond to address all of your wants & needs, after the first time of seeing you there they try their best to put a name to the face & treat customers like family. There is a huge amount of outdoor seating for a beautiful day & big umbrellas incase the weather isn't exactly to your liking. We LOVE bringing our golden to the outdoor seating for bottomless mimosas that are only $20 & served in HUGE wine glasses. The indoor area consists of 2 floors both decorated as cute as a button, very southern hospitality style. The food options are unique & taste incredible. Do not go to, drive by, or go near Hickory NC without stopping at Notions!

Adorable spot in downtown Hickory with great outdoors seating options. My friend and I chose to share spring rolls and a salad. Both were delicious, but the salad was my favorite. The onions and blue cheese truly made it. Would definitely go back to Notions if I am in the Hickory area.

Very nice, trendy restaurant in downtown Hickory with a bar and TVs there. This place is cute. We went for Sunday brunch, and the menu had lots of good selections. We had the avocado toast with a sunny side egg on top. The Açaí yogurt parfait was large and delicious with fruit. The French toast was sweet and four slices of bread. The good sized omelet was delicious. Service was fast. Check out the bar shelves. They're small tables refinished and connected together for a really unusual look which was really neat. The ladies bathroom is darling. Check it out.

Popped in for an early dinner on a Thursday evening. Friendly greeting immediately at the door. The menu is perfect for tapas / shareables style and portions are generous. We ordered the pimento cheese dip appetizer (which was amazing with the fried crisp triangles) - the table favorite. The ahi tuna was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Classic reuben did not disappoint my dad. I ordered the Cobb salad, which was large enough to feed all three of us. Vibe is also nice. Outside seating is plenty and spacious. Inside a smidge more intimate, but still laid back. Cocktail menu was well thought out. Enjoyed the sour cucumber.

I'd like to start off saying that it is almost impossible to find a place that will make an espresso martini in and around this area. I asked for one first thing and the bartender had no issues making one. I was pleasantly surprised. The espresso martini was SPOT ON!! DELICIOUS!! My husband enjoyed his coconut rum and Coke so much, he got two!! My second drink was off of their "winter cocktail" menu. This menu was unique and intriguing. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the drink I got, but I promise most people based on description would pass. DON'T pass!! The drink was served warm with wine, rum, and spices. It taste like an apple cider or a flavorful tea, I could not taste the alcohol, that makes it a true cocktail in my opinion it also makes it dangerous!! hahahaha!! Move over Long Island ice tea!! We both got burgers. Both flame grilled I believe. Cooked perfectly and soooooooooooooo good!! My hubby got the inferno burger. If you love spicy, This one is for you!! It's not for the faint of heart. I chose the American burger. It was everything you want in a classic burger and it's my new fav place for a burger!! I chose a wedge salad for my side. It was large for a side. I only wish they had charred/grilled the wedge just to step it up a notch. Hubby got the pub chips.... tasty and plentifu!! Overall food was delicious. The staff were very nice and attentive. The building is beautiful and their vintage adds, mural, and gargoyles are a delightful and unique touch to the decor. I hope to see more the next time we go. We WILL be back for more!!

Disorganized and Disappointing…read more We had high hopes for Duke's, especially with its upscale vibe and menu, but the reality fell far short. From the moment we sat down, things started going sideways. First red flag? The water left on our table had bugs floating in it. Not a great start. The waitress, while friendly, seemed completely overwhelmed--she forgot our orders multiple times, asked the same questions repeatedly, and left us waiting far too long between check-ins. It took 40 minutes just to get our soups, and the entrees didn't arrive until over an hour after we ordered. The entire experience felt chaotic. At one point, another server brought two dishes and a drink to our table that weren't even ours. Total confusion. Now let's talk about pricing--specifically, a $12 charge to split a 24 oz ribeye. How does that make sense when one person might not even be able to finish it? It felt like a greedy upcharge for no real reason. Menu clarity was another issue. The sides weren't listed clearly, and no one explained that the "loaded potato" option was actually a soup--not an actual potato. The clam chowder? It's a tomato-based red soup, which is definitely not what most people would expect when ordering chowder. A simple explanation from the staff would've gone a long way. The duck was actually fantastic, the crab cakes not so much. Dessert was also oddly handled. They offer a brownie, but ask, "Is that okay?" as if there are other options (there aren't). Then they bring one brownie split four ways--literally bite-sized portions on a single plate for a group of four. It felt more like a sampler than a real dessert. When it came time to pay, we were asked if we were ready for the check, but then they came back later and had to double-check everyone's order just to get the bill right. And instead of bringing the check, you're told to scan a QR code to pay--likely a move to avoid credit card processing fees, though it puts the burden on the customer to complete the transaction. Overall, Duke's tries to present itself as upscale, but the execution just isn't there. Sloppy service, confusing policies, and unnecessary upcharges make it hard to justify a return visit. Definitely not the dining experience we were hoping for.
