Notchtop is a great home style cafe with some damn good grub. I'm surprised I've never been here before and I'm glad to have finally made the stop. The restaurant is located in an unassuming strip mall next to Safeway. Ample parking is definitely a perk for this location. The atmosphere inside is basically what you would expect for a cafe in the Rockies. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu is big with plenty of options for all sorts of picky eaters. The drink menu isn't too impressive though. I had a French vanilla Kahlua latte which was a nice hot drink for a cold day. I ordered the Dragon's Egg Benedict because it sounded like it could be tasty. I was right! The dish had a great spicy chorizo hollandaise that I wanted to bathe in. The breakfast potatoes were perfectly crisp and yummy. I cleaned my plate in minutes and felt satisfied. Me wife also had a delicious benedict dish. Our meal cost around $30. Overall I think I will revisit Notchtop soon to try out another dish... Or I'll just get the benedict again! read more

This is a great little "locals" find in Estes. Vibe of a greasy spoon, menu of a larger restaurant. We were blown away by the number of choices and variety on the menu from types of oatmeal, to pancakes, to French Toast and more! It would easily take 10+ trips to try everything that looked good on the menu. In addition to variety, the service is also excellent. Though we were told there would be a 45 minute wait (11am on Sunday of a holiday weekend), it ended up being more like 15. Our server was friendly, fast and helpful. Everyone we spoke to was kind. The food itself was pretty good. My favorite was the white chocolate pineapple coconut pancake. It was sweet without being overly so and the add ons lent interest to the flavor. Eating the pancake was like taking a brief tropical vacation! Both of the hash scramble dishes were also fresh with high quality ingredients. Both were a touch on the bland side (we wondered if this was because neither of us got eggs) and required a little hot sauce and pepper. This is a amazing place with the most beautiful view of the mountains. They also have amazing food, I got cinnamon roll French toast combo. I was looking forward to eating at this business. We came in at breakfast time the Saturday after thanksgiving. I couldn't resist trying the banana bread French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. The French toast was phenomenal, however, the eggs were cold and the bacon was limp like it was microwaved. I really doubt I'd go back here. How can a restaurant that serves breakfast serve microwave bacon? I really hope they had just ran out because it was a busy weekend! Additionally the waiter brought my bill back without my card and had to search his pockets for it, this was a little concerning to me- you never know what some staff do with your CC in the back room. Have left previous reviews on this but RE: this visit... Asked for a scramble with none of the (included) ham but mushrooms instead. Instead of simply subbing one for the other (meat is usually more expensive than mushrooms) we were charged an extra $1.50 for the mushrooms and still got the scramble with ham on it. After kindly mentioning it to the waitress she checked and came back to confirm "Yeah, I told them (kitchen) no ham". Obviously not the waitresses fault, and a simple mistake, but there was no offer or attempt to make it right. After asking for the up charge to be removed since we paid extra to get the wrong order, she begrudgingly agreed. read more

Friendly service. Great food with large portions. After waiting about 15 mins for a table at 10:30 am on a Saturday morning- we were promptly greeted and offered coffee or something from the bar. Although the thought of a full service bar was enticing I decided on coffee. Jenn and I decided to split a Caramel Walnut Banana Waffle in addition to ordering our own breakfast entrees. Life is short- order dessert first. The Waffle was a normal sized Belgian Waffle served with a generous amount warm, gooey caramel sauce, several fresh banana slices and sprinkled Walnut halves with powdered sugar and a large dollop of real whipped cream in the middle. Perfect to share- but I couldn't imagine trying to eat it all by myself! Jenn's Mexican Omelette came smothered in a spicy but very tasty home made Green Chile sauce and a side of black beans and tortillas. I ordered Bacon and Onion Hash. Huge portion of grilled Hash browns and crispy bacon and sauteed onions topped with two scrambled eggs, two pieces of sourdough bread and a side of creamy Hollandaise Sauce. Both dishes were great. My husband and I had breakfast at Notch Top this week while visiting in Estes Park. He had the American Breakfast - eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast. He managed to make it through half of it before he admitted defeat - there was just too much food! The eggs were perfectly scrambled, the bacon was almost perfect for him (He likes his bacon very crispy - this was just below crispy, but everyone is different!), and the home fries were delicious - perfectly cooked and seasoned nicely. I had the Turkey Bacon Omelet, minus mushrooms and the Hollandaise sauce, with home fries and wheat toast. Amazing! A huge omelet with ample chopped turkey bacon, onion, and spinach with cheese and diced tomatoes on top. As with my husband's plate, the home fries were delicious and well-seasoned, and the toast was flavorful, especially with blackberry jam. A little hot sauce complemented the omelet and home fries, for those who like a little kick. Service was great - the waitress was friendly and checked on us a couple of times during the meal. The patio has an amazing view of the Rockies (as do most of the inside tables), but it was a little too windy outside for us to enjoy. The decor inside is very "mountain-y" with lots of wood accents. It was very clean. While we were very tempted, we passed on the bakery items that were on display in the case immediately inside the door. Huge cinnamon rolls and other baked goods including a couple of massive pies that were a full 3-4" high were definitely a temptation, but we were so stuffed from breakfast that we just couldn't do it! We can definitely recommend Notch Top for breakfast if you are in the area. Go hungry, and make sure you have a little time to digest before hitting the hiking trails!! read more

It was very good and I was able to make it to my soupy hearts desire with hot milk and brown sugar. I was turned off by my yogurt being warm but other then that it was very good. My husband enjoyed his cave man hash as well. They probably need a different hostess. If you're in a primarily English speaking region and you can't pronounce English names identifiably then hosting a restaurant probably isn't your thing.
