Lamb Curry

Not Just Snacks is a great place to bring college mates and first dates. Cheap, tasty, and authentic, you can't go wrong. One of my friends from India recommended this place first and had our big group try pani puri. It is a light chickpea appetizer that is very easy to share. Since then, I've tried a lot of their menu and have many highlights. I love their beef kebab, and the best portions go to the biryani. I am a sucker for spice, so I had to try their vindaloo. I love their lamb, and my girlfriend always grabs the beef. The portions are great, especially for the price, and don't worry! They bring rice out in a to-go container so you have lunch the next day. Their normal curry could be a little spicy, so go for the tikka masala or biryani if you can't handle spice. If you need something to fight the spice, they got you covered too. Their mango lassi is good, but we always get the honey & ginger naan to settle the kick. Whenever we finish up, the owner always stops by and is very nice. There are also beautiful murals inside and outside the restaurant, adding to its charm. A must-try stop for anyone who wants to try or loves Indian food.

Definitely try this place out if you're craving good Indian food! Food came out super fast and tasted really fresh. Perfectly spicy and super flavorful! My favorite thing was the palak chicken, I certainly will be coming back soon just for it. Staff were very friendly too! 10/10 recommend

Second time eating here. Took the family years ago. Plenty of dairy free options. Indoor or outdoor seating. Very inexpensive. Great staff! Indoors is kinda plain. Outdoors has a view of the street. Quiet for a city. We enjoy watching people go by

Paneer Tikka Masala

The food is delicious and a great price for the portion. The pakoras are super filling. The service was also really great.

My original review was 5 stars but I've since had to edit. My family has been coming here for so many years, the entire staff knows us by name. They have some of the best prices on authentic Indian food in the state. The atmosphere is also very homey. Recently, we noticed a sign in the window (see picture) about their opposition to accessible infrastructure. My family and I partially commute by walking and biking, but we instead drive to Hope as it's dangerous there. This sign made us feel very unwelcome and feels like they don't care about us. We'll be going to Rasoi and other places in the area instead.

was nostalgic for southall, london so i came here and was soooo happy i did. got dosa (my obsession at this point), some grilled chicken, and gulab jamun. very cozy and filling, and so affordable (!!!) server was hospitable and kind, we made great convo about his home country and his time in rhode island. great family business to dine in or take out. across the street is "not just spices" with great ingredients you can't find in major rhode island grocers. love the creativity in the names.

Their food is so tasty!!! We got the palak paneer, chicken curry, and baingan bharta. Each came with either rice or naan, and we chose garlic, butter, and normal naan. We also ordered mango lassi. The palak paneer was tasty and creamy. The chicken curry was delicious, with deep and complex flavor. I would definitely order this again. My favorite was the baingan bharta. It has a rich smoky flavor and it's so well spiced. I would highly recommend getting the naan - the garlic naan was my favorite! I think it also cilantro on it and it's amazing. The mango lassi was refreshing, and not too sweet. Hit the spot on a hot day! The lassi was also nice to counter balance the baingan bharta, which is on the spicy side. Service was great and prompt, and everything was affordable. There is indoor and outdoor seating. There is also a store across the street, Not Just Spices, which is fun to check out after.

One of the few places that sell my favorite appetizer/snack, pani puri, in RI. Not only do they have cheap prices, but tons of Indian cuisine for you to choose from. They don't skimp on the portions, too! I mean... LOOK AT THIS FOOD!!! They are definitely "Not Just Snacks", for sure!

The Aloo Tiki (a pan fried potato patty) topped with cilantro sauce and chutney is also delicious. They have great lunch specials where you get a massive plate of food including a main course, rice, naan, salad, soup and a dessert. Tucked away in a plaza on Route 103 in Riverside, Swad has a nice decor and every time I visit there are at least a few tables full. Swad features a Himalayan dumpling called a Momo that is pretty incredible - lovely spices and so much fun to eat. There is a vegetarian Momo in addition to one with lamb. The butter chicken is apparently well loved and I tried it twice - once takeout, and once in the restaurant; my eleven year old told me it is her favorite chicken dish ever, FWIW. I also tried the chicken Madras and a few of the apps. Everything was very well made. Really thrilled that Swad is in Riverside!

Riverside is lucky to have them.

The bar itself is dramatic, a wall of bottles backed by bold red shelves. It all adds up to a room that feels like someone put real thought into every corner. We ordered the Ginger Turmeric Martini, which is made with Citron Vodka on the menu but we swapped in ISCO Gin; a substitution the bartender handled without hesitation. He mentioned he adds a tiny pinch of salt to some cocktails to brighten them up, a small detail, but the kind that tells you they actually think about what they're making. The drinks were served in cut crystal coupe glasses with a small edible flower floating on top, and they tasted as good as they looked. For food, we went with the Chili Cauliflower and the Dal Makhani. The cauliflower came out crispy in all the right ways, each floret holding its texture under a sticky, lightly sweet heat with a bit of tamarind that shines right through; tangy, a little smoky, deeply savory. The Dal Makhani was exceptional. The lentils were cooked with real intention, not reduced to mush but offering just a slight pop, and the overall flavor was rich and complex in a way that made it hard to put the naan down. Speaking of which, the garlic naan (sans cilantro, seeing as my partner has the gene where it tastes like soap) arrives charred and pillowy in equal measure, loaded with bits of fresh garlic. The service matched everything else. We were greeted warmly, and the staff genuinely seemed interested in getting to know us rather than just moving us through. That kind of rapport is rare and, when you find it, you notice. A spot we love to visit whenever we are in the area, and for good reason.

They don't have a parking lot, but they are located on Thayer St so lots of street parking to choose from. Since we went after 6 pm, street parking was free. The inside looks just like how I remembered it. We were seated on their first floor (they do have a second) towards the back so it felt very private. We could catch a glimpse of outside from the windows but most of it was obstructed by a wallpaper which was a shame. I was craving something sweet but hearty so I ordered us some cauliflower 65 as an appetizer. For drinks we just stuck to the water they gave us. The cauliflower 65 was good. It was sweet and a tiny bit spicy. The cauliflower was very soft. But I do wish the cauliflower would have kept more of its crunch from the batter. I couldn't decide on what I wanted as an entree so their special was perfect. I forgot the name of it but it's essentially a plate with rice, 4 different main dishes in small portions, a sauce, and naan bread. What I didn't like was that since the sides came in such small portions, the food cooled down very fast so I felt like I was racing against time. Also, I would have gladly paid an extra $1 to be able to select a topping for my naan. Without anything on it, it tastes too plain and kind of a waste of calories. The tandoori chicken was a bit dry but flavorful. Besides these, everything else was good. The flavors were good, the portion size was good, and customer service was also good.

Maybe there's another lot I didn't see in the back? But the restaurant itself is beautiful. Lots of wooden features that don't necessarily give off "Indian restaurant" but was still nice to look at all the same. There's a decent amount of seating and a large bar where they also keep games. I really liked the music they were playing as well. I constantly found myself dancing along to it. For food I had the chili baby corn for an appetizer, chicken saag, and cheese naan. Also had a Limca to drink which are always wonderful. The baby corn was amazing! The portion was generous and I loved the chili sauce. It was appropriately dressed and fried to perfection. Chicken saag was also excellent. I prefer mine a little creamier but I loved the fresh taste and generous pieces of chicken. The saag itself was properly spiced and came with a generous portion of basmati rice. Finally, the cheese naan was appropriately priced and crispy with a generous portion of cheese. Was it some of the best Indian food I've ever had? Absolutely! It was right up there and I hope to stop by their lunch buffer sometime soon.
