Went for one exam to get contact lenses and was charged for 3 different things without my knowledge or consent.

Firstly, I would encourage everyone to look at the other reviews, including the Kirkland branch. This place has a bad reputation on the Eastside, especially for their billing practices. I had a terrible experience here with their billing department. There is 0 transparency when it comes to what you're being charged for. Did I get an itemized bill at the end of the visit? NO. Did anyone tell me what exact services I was being charged during the visit? NO. The staff member that spoke with me in response to my complaint made me feel like it was MY responsibility to know what THEY were charging me without ever having notified me of my charges to begin with. Her tone was extremely dismissive and her attitude, downright arrogant. And to be completely frank, I probably wouldn't have written this review had she just shown the slightest bit of human compassion to seeing another person being surprised with an unexpected cost. Instead she made it seem like I was in the wrong and quoted Washington law to support their claims. Does Washington law make it illegal for you to inform your customers what you're charging them? If what happened to me is common of their billing practices, my guess is that she has dealt with complains like these enough times that she is numb to your troubles. I came here for my annual exam as I wear contacts and I have vision insurance. I paid my copay and had my exam done. Everything was fine until I saw that they had charged my insurance for extra charges I was not made aware of. I have had eye exams before and it was always just one charge for the exam, including the contact lenses. These extra charges ate into my funds for purchasing actual contacts and glasses. I told them FROM THE START that I had just moved here from out of state and needed to update my contact lens prescriptions. I provided them with my insurance information which they verified and then proceeded to do the exam, never really delineating which service was which throughout the entire process. Should I have kept asking the staff every 5 minutes throughout the entire visit "Is this going to cost me extra?". According to this place, that is what you need to be doing because they reserve the right to bill you whatever they see fit without notifying you in advance. Even a dentist will tell you exactly what you're getting and how much it costs before doing the procedure. Apparently, those standards don't apply here. Patients deserve transparency. If you're not getting it, you have to ask yourself why. Is it because of NEGLIGENCE or GREED? Either way, it's not a good look. 1-800-contacts has an online app that spits out a contact lens prescription for you in a minute for about $5. If you have a stable prescription, I highly suggest you go with that. Additionally, their scheduling isn't the best either. Booked them on zocdoc and had them call me to say that their schedule on it isn't up to date and I had to reschedule. And then when I got there, the preset appointment time was delayed by 30 mins.

Nice waiting room with an informative eye video playing

Then the Billing Department started sending DUNNING texts to me at all hours of the day, night and even on weekends. When I called and asked for the bill, the clerk said, "oh it has not been sent out yet". The last straw was getting a DUNNING text in the middle of dinner last week at 7PM stating I owed $20. None of these HUGE amounts of $100 and of $20 dollars had even been billed and even going by the DUNNING texts were over 16 days old. The Eye Clinic of Bellevue has lost a loyal (VERY PROFITABLE $32K for two droopy eyelids) patient due these OUTRAGEOUS billing tactics! I have let all of my friends, associates and clients to avoid this crazy place that practices sending DUNNING for bills not even sent out. I can only imagine what they do if someone is actually late.

However, it was 11:30 AM and I still had not been seen by the doctor. I had clearly informed the front desk that I needed to leave by 11:30, yet there was no meaningful update or accommodation. If a practice expects patients to strictly honor appointment times and threatens financial penalties for delays or cancellations, there should be the same level of respect for patients' time. Communication about delays and better schedule management would go a long way. I understand that medical offices can run behind occasionally, but a full hour without being seen -- especially after stressing punctuality in reminder messages -- is not acceptable. I hope Overlake EyeCare takes patient time as seriously as it expects patients to take theirs.

Two Weeks Post Op…read more Life-Changing Experience Despite My Fears! Let me start by saying I was extremely terrified about getting LASIK. I have an intense fear of anything near my eyes, and while I understood it was a laser and not a needle, the thought of something going wrong or even going blind (even though I know the risks are minimal) had me so anxious. I have lived with very poor vision my whole life (-8 in one eye and -7 in the other), and I knew that if I didn't act soon, I might not be a candidate for LASIK later. My heavy prescription glasses had been unchanged for years and limited my frame options, so I finally decided to face my fears and go for it. Even that morning, I was still scared out of my mind. I'm so glad I scheduled an early morning appointment because the staff was amazing from the moment I arrived. The doctor was an absolute superstar--he explained every step of the procedure as it was happening, which helped keep me calm and still. They even had someone stand by to offer me a squishy stress ball for my nervous hands! The whole team made me feel supported and reassured. The surgery itself was fast, and I followed all the aftercare instructions to the letter. I went home, took a nap, and diligently used my eye drops (antibiotics, lubricating drops, etc.) every 15 minutes, as directed. For the first four days, I minimized screen time and took it easy. Now, two weeks later, I couldn't be happier with my results. My vision is incredible, and my eyes feel great. I've had minimal dryness (using drops four times a day as recommended) and no infections. Wearing goggles to bed with an airplane neck pillow was a lifesaver for me as a side sleeper during the first week. I also invested in individual-use eye drop vials--they're super convenient, hygienic, and sting-free. A couple of tips: * I used a special heat face mask that didn't put pressure on my eyes but provided heat at night before bed, game-changer for comfort! * I avoided makeup entirely for the first 2 weeks and got a special, eye-safe brand recommended by my main optometrist for when I finally did wear makeup. If I had to nitpick, my biggest complaint was the discomfort from the protective contact lens they place after surgery. It felt like having an eyelash stuck in my eye until it was removed at my follow-up appointment only in the one eye, but the relief was instant once it was out! Also, showering during the first week was a bit tricky since you have to avoid getting water in your eyes. Overall, the experience was life-changing, and I am thrilled with the results. If you're scared, I promise the care and professionalism of this team will help put you at ease. I can't recommend them enough!

The reason that I gave four stars was because I had heard so much about Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE). Over and I heard about not needing readers. So, the first night, I couldn't read my phone, but that's to be expected. But I'm a week in now, and I can't read very well up close, and I still have halos, and blurry vision. I can see very well far away, but I'm getting concerned about the flashes of light I'm seeing in my left eye. The radio personalities who tell you that you'll never need readers, Bob Stelton, Softy Mahler, and Ian Furness, should really be held accountable Everybody tells you it's affordable, but I consider over $15,000 to be quite a lot of money. I had hoped for great results, but I will be in readers the rest of my life. I'm not thrilled about that. Just be aware that great vision is not guaranteed. Also, I should mention that while I agree the procedure is mostly painless, it was pretty uncomfortable for me. There are constant drops, and you see strange patterns and colors, and you're supposed to keep the eye being worked on open, but after a while you can't tell if it's open or closed, and there's pressure around the eye. I didn't want to be too negative, but I'm just saying the things that I wish somebody had told me.
