I'm giving two stars instead of one because the two people behind the counter that I dealt with today were very apologetic and polite with the issues I was having. So I was approved for a prescription of GLP-1 injection. When I spoke to someone at Northwest compounders last week, I was informed they needed payment before they could fill the prescription. OK, no problem. Gave them my debit number and went in today, which is Monday to pick up my prescription. It was ready, and they said it needed to be paid for. I said excuse me? I gave someone over the phone my debit card information as I was told this needed to be paid before it could be filled. They apologized and said, yeah, it looked like they didn't actually process my payment or forgot to hit a button or something. I told them this sounds seriously sketchy to be asked for my debit card number with the intent to pay for a prescription and my financial information not go to where it is intended. I hate the feeling of having to eagle-eye my bank account every day for the next few weeks to make sure they didn't double charge me. Also, I was given absolute zero consult regarding this prescription. I mean, I'm injecting myself with something for the first time in my life. Kind of wish there was a pharmacy tech or pharmacist to go over a few things with me, but whatever. Local vets seem to send their scripts to NWC by default, so I always end up using them, even though I live down the street from a couple of their competitors. Their mail order service is fast and reliable, and I've never known them to screw up an order, so I just put up with the minor inconveniences. Which is mainly that their web site is antiquated so you have to enter the script number every time you do a refill and phone them whenever you need to give them a new credit card number. Chewy sells compounded vet drugs for a bit cheaper, but only dispenses specific dosages, making them useless if you need to titrate at all. read more

Columbia River Veterinary Specialists has been treating our dog for seizures which often requires meds they don't carry. First, there are only a few compounders in Portland Metro and CRVS often refers a place nearby. Unfortunately, our experience with that pharmacy was luke-warm as they rarely answer their phone, don't return messages, and has un-customer friendly hours. And of all the Walgreens, only the one on N. Lombard offers compounding services. In regard to brick and mortar pharmacies, I'm not sure why most have such limited hours and are closed on the weekend. Emergency clinics like CRVS and Dove Lewis often prescribe meds that are too be administered as soon as possible. If they don't offer them and the pharmacies are closed, it presents a stressful situation. Northwest Compounders has been such a relief in this trying time and stands out from the pack. They are fast, open on Saturdays, provide next day shipping, and offer a lock box when they're closed. I'm the past they have been great. Not sure if they lost staff when they moved to a new building. I received a call my prescription was ready for pick up but they wanted to speak to me about it as I had not received that medication from them before. When I called the guy on the phone told me no one had called me that day and they did not have a prescription for me. I said that wasn't accurate as I had a voicemail from someone that day saying it was ready. He put my on hold to check and he came back saying I was correct and a note has been missed. Fast forward to picking up the medication I was trying to use my CareCredit card to pay for the prescription. The lady at the desk was trying to get it to work but it wouldn't. She asked who I'm assuming to be her boss for help and the lady just yelled out that they don't accept CareCredit. Which is annoying as the sole purpose of that card is to pay for prescriptions and medical appointments. But even more so that just was not a customer centric way of handling the situation. Getting up from her desk and being understanding would have been the bare minimum. But also going forward I would say push to accept care credit. And be more empathetic. You never know why people are picking up medications. read more

Like most of the people posting here, at the advice of our veterinarian we turned to Northwest Compounders for a specific liquid medication for our dog. NWC's service is outstanding. Every time we had a question they called back with an answer and advice. They also let us know when a refill is being shipped and an approximate date when it will arrive through the mail. They have our strongest recommendation, and we recently learned that the liquid compounded medication they prepare is less expensive than if we purchased the medication in pill form. read more

NW Compounders medicine delivery service is outstanding. I can always count on "to my doorstep" delivery within 24 to 36 hours of my phone order. This part of their business is 5-stars. Unfortunately, I've had ongoing issues with the Methimazol cream that I have to apply to my cat's ears twice-a-day. While my cat is really good about tolerating her medication, she doesn't appreciate it when the cream feels like it has grains of sand mixed in - something even I can feel when I'm applying the cream. This makes the twice daily task more uncomfortable for both of us. In response to my concerns, NW Compounders has made efforts to ensure the medication is as creamy as possible but they just haven't hit the mark consistently - hence the 4-stars. I continue to have hopes that I can boost this review to 5-stars overall if the Methimazol cream is delivered sans any grains mixed in. read more

Staff called very quickly after vet submitted my prescription (within 1 hour), even though it was kind of a holiday (New Year's Eve). The person I spoke with was friendly and answered all my questions, even explaining things I forgot to ask about (like how to store the medication). The items were shipped quickly and packaged well. They included all the information about administering the medication, the dosage, etc written out with the package. Prices were slightly less than my local vet office as well.
