New to Seattle, I didn't have a mechanic here when my car started having troubles about a week after arriving to Washington state, so I searched the Yelp reviews for advice. I was in particular need because I was heading out of town the next day. I was happy to find this place because the two things in life you want are a good mechanic and a good physician. Bob took my call right at 7:30 a.m. when they opened and was very helpful and clear about possible repair options. They were able to get me into the shop first thing, made the diagnosis quickly (water in the cylinder wells) and Bob called me promptly with an estimate. Car in at 8:00 a.m. and out by 11:00. Wow. Bob (my service advisor) and Alex (my mechanic) is without a doubt one of the best. You will definitely feel you're taken care of and at great value. An honest mechanic might sound like an oxymoron to some people. At least, that was my own skepticism after countless experience with other auto-shops that always breaches customer trust (adding on unnecessary services, billing unholy amounts, hidden fees undisclosed, repair not always being spot on - it goes on and on). I never thought I would find an auto-shop that has the trinity: 1) honest, 2) affordable, and 3) great customer service - but Bob and team proved me wrong and really went above. Northwest Auto-Center has declined/refused my business a couple times. Not because they couldn't help or they didn't appreciate me as a customer. In fact, it was the exact opposite. They turned me down because they advised it would be more beneficial to get certain services elsewhere considering time and cost. They could've very easily just taken me in and charge me the fee. This already speak volume about its integrity. The latest service I needed was to repair my engine. Bob originally advised that I take the car to the dealership instead in case they will cover it out of warranty - even though they can also fix it. The dealership quoted an absurd $4,000 and 1 month for needed service. Called Bob back and he offered to repair for approx $2,000 and a couple days. I'm going to refrain from commenting about the dealership because I'd say some very mean things. Thanks to Northwest Auto, car is now running like brand new and was able to save a whole 50%. I also had to tow my car around a few times between my home, Northwest Auto, and my dealership. This can be a headache coordinating but when I told Bob about it, he offered to keep my car for over a week until my appointment! Even when he is tight on space in the garage from other customers, he didn't want me as a customer to face the hassle. I'm just so happy there are honest businesses out there and that I've finally found this rare unicorn of an auto-shop. read more

Northwest Auto Center is located behind the NAPA auto parts store and next to Strictly BMW- super easy to find just off NE 20th ST. So, how can I give 5 stars to a mechanic shop you ask? Well, when you finally find a good one that problem solves and gets you another step closer to a solution and his rates are reasonable- this business relationship is definitely one to maintain and Alex gets 5 stars. I've had friends recommend Alex's shop to me in the past and the first time I brought my rig in was several years ago. Alex does good, fair work and always delivers on time. He can drop you off and will fetch you at your office if you're within some sort of radius- I work about 1/2 mile from the shop. The last time I had to bring my truck in was about 20k miles ago, when my seat belt receiver wasn't latching. Alex found me a replacement and it's still working like brand new. Now, as my truck nears 185k miles, Alex will recommend upgrades but he is not pushy nor will he try to upsell you. AS long as the garage is open, he has found a customer for life. read more

I had a large bus I needed serviced in a short amount of time. I also ran into a lot of hiccups getting it over to NW Auto Center, but they understood and accommodated my timeframe. After they looked at it, they explained all of the work they recommended to get done, in a very frank and straightforward level of detail. They told me what they thought was a 'fix this right now' problem, and what was was a 'eeeh-not-absolutely-necessary-to-get-fixed-right-now-but-you-might-want-to-keep-an-eye-on-this' kind of problem. I found these guys on Yelp, and decided to give them a try. I called a few minutes before 5 one afternoon to get a quote to install a part I already ordered off the internet, and they said they would get back to me tomorrow morning. Sure enough, 8:05 am I got a call with my quote. I agreed to the price and set an appointment for that afternoon. They told me it would take an hour to an hour and a half. They did the work pretty quick - just under 1 hour, and due to their check-in deal, I got 5% off. All in all, no complaints here! Prices were fair (I know this since I had previously received a quote from another shady place), the checkin deal made it a little bit sweeter, and they didn't take too long. I'll probably be back for future repairs. Oh, and as an added bonus, they have some old school RadioShack memorabilia from the 80s in display cases in their lobby. Niiiice! read more

Alex, Lori and Georgetta are awesome. Georgetta explained all the issues with my car, suggesting which ones needed to be done soon and which ones could wait a while so I could budget for them. While I only had an oil change here, I would say the service I received was top notch. Due to the amount of the repairs needed on my car, I decided it was time for a few one (I had an older model car). Alex understood, and was supportive of that direction, especially due to the amount of work needed. I felt the pricing for labor and estimates were fair. Alex and his wife and Georgetta are awesome. I've been here twice, been recommended, and have referred others. Alex does great work. The labor costs are a little higher than what I've paid elsewhere, but given the location, convenience, and how fabulous these people are and the way they do business, I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. In looking for a car mechanic, everyone is always afraid of being swindled. People fear their own ignorance about cars (with good reason!), and they are afraid of dishonest or bad mechanics who will do a bad job, lie about costs/parts, or ones who sabotage other things so the customer is forced to come back. Did I cover everything? What I can tell you about NW Auto is that Alex clearly takes a lot of pride in his work. He and everyone else there are as straightforward as can be about parts, labor, and costs. You are given estimates, along with "in the event of ______" estimates. My first time I went in for a simple brake job. I was a few dollars off from receiving a $50 rebate from NAPA, as opposed to a $25 rebate, so Alex tacked on little bit to my bill (after telling me), so that I could qualify for the higher rebate. As far as the actual repair, he went so far as to tighten up some other things (no cost), and he spotted some other things that he simply gave me a heads-up about for the near future. Another plus is that there is a parts shop right across the parking lot, and if you have a standard car, most everything is available. No waiting for X amount of days for a part to arrive. For my brake job, Georgetta actually played phone tag a little to try to find when the last part orders could be done, in the event I needed more than just brake pads and calipers. She called me back to let me know exactly when I should bring the car in so that I could best schedule it with work on my end. I always leave feeling fully informed, confident, happy, and I never feel like they are condescending or shady at all. Love them!! read more

I can't recommend this place enough. Last year out blazer blew a gasket and was in need of fixing. After doing a few searches for the area I decided on this spot. Best choice ever. They were upfront and honest, (had my grandfather with me who was a mechanic for 45 years to let me know if they were BSing me) and were very good with communication. After they told me I needed to have my engine rebuilt, they took on the task. I called around to some other places in the area who started quoting me $150-$300 more than NWAC was quoting me. After having a bad experience with one of Bellevue's "top rated favorites for automotive repair," I was relying on the dealer of my car (Jeep) until it became inconvenient to wait for a couple of weeks to get into the dealer's service center. I looked up some other repair shops and Northwest Auto Center kind of stood out from the rest of the crowd on the spreadsheet I made, and so I took a chance and am glad I did. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the work they did for me and the fact that they even bothered to show me what they were going to do before and showed me how it was going during the repair job. I went to this shop. I received a rather high estimate on a few items that I was told needed to be done so I decided to take the car to a dealer who I trusted in a nearby city where I use to live (I had decided to give NW Auto Center a try for convenience after the move). My old "go to" shop was able to complete one of the repairs which did in fact need to be done at approximately $600 rather than $800 as estimated by NW Auto, and I was told that the second repair item recommended by NW Auto did not need to be done. I don't trust this guy any father than I can throw him. I'll be looking for another Bellevue mechanic. read more

I just called to see if I could get my oil changed this afternoon at 4 (to see if anything was available). Jeff - who answered the phone asked if I could come in earlier (3:30) instead. I told Jeff I was still working at 3:30 and he replied stating that coming earlier works due to the guys cleaning up the shop. Seriously?! I've never been asked to come in at an earlier time for a company's convenience. Yes i know this was a last minute call - called before noon but I'll never ever call again. We came to NW AutoCenter after spectacularly bad service at another local shop. Our 2003 Saturn VUE was making a disturbing humming sound from the back tires. There was a horrible smell coming from under the engine. The other shop sent us home with a seven page invoice of recommended repairs, and no explanations. Jeff at Northwest AutoCenter was kind and patient as we explained our situation. Given the car's age, we weren't sure the repairs needed would take the car more than another few months. In less than two hours, Jeff called back and confirmed what repairs were needed--the right rear wheel bearing did need to be replaced (it was a safety issue) and oil was leaking onto the timing belt, causing the smell, overall weakening the belt, and of course being a big mess. We decided, based on the anticipated cost of repairs, it was time to retire the Saturn. There's more to this story, but I can't thank or laud Northwest AutoCenter enough--when it comes time for our "new" used car to get maintenance---this is where we're coming. read more

Avoid avoid avoid!!! Stopped in here this morning to request a diagnostic on my check engine light because the car did not pass wa st emissions. We already know what the problem is. He said immediately without asking further questions or even looking at my vehicle "it will be $150 for the diagnostic" hmmm that's convenient considering that WA St requires a minimum of $150 of work to be done to get an emissions waiver. Seeing below from other reviews that a diagnostic was around $35 I know this guy thought I was a sucker. I called him out and said that seems very high compared to other places and if I had said nothing about emissions testing would it still be the same? He got very offended and then when I called my boyfriend who knows a fair bit about cars the guy got more mad and walked away saying "I don't think we will Fix this today" Extremely unprofessional! I caught you trying to scam me because hey guess what other reviews below mention diagnostic costs being $35-$50 which is reasonable and hey Napa auto parts next door does check engine diagnostics for free. Found another place that was able to diagnose and fix this problem for under $125. If you like unprofessional jerks trying to scam you this is the place for you. read more
