This place is awesome!!!! It doesn't look like much from the outside, or from the inside for that matter. They did recently renovate the place, which is much needed since they went from smoking to non-smoking. But I come here for the food! The food quality is high, and the prices are extremely low, making for 5-star value. I personally recommend the eggs Benedict or an omelet. The portions are massive, the coffee is never-ending, and the servers are always kind, polite, and friendly. They also accept credit cards now! I like finding little places like this, tucked away where fewer people find it. There may be a wait on a Sunday morning, but it usually isn't too long. I would recommend for breakfast if you want something simple, cheap, and hearty. read more

Usually we go for breakfast but had such a nice surprise when we tried the burgers. Excellent food and very friendly servers. I have to say if you sit by the windows your legs will be cold--corrugated metal walls and drafty BUT the excellent food makes up for chilliness in the Winter and Spring. We love the food. In fact we ate here once a week for 3 years. However I will NEVER return there again due to today's terrible service!!! First I got my food 10-15 minutes before the other 3 people. Then they came and said they were out of biscuits for the biscuits and gravy. She said ok just give me pancakes instead. Then when her food finally came she had no meat. Despite pointing out what she ordered and asking for her meat she never received it. When we went to pay she asked for a breakdown of the bill to ensure that she wasn't charged for the meat she never received. Two servers were unable and unwilling to explain the bill. The rude bitch lady told us not to get an attitude! Then she had nerve enough to say "don't come back." Will not recommend this place ever again! read more

We really enjoy Northside Diner. The people there make us feel welcome and appreciated. That is how I judge a restaurant. The pancakes are huge and other breakfast items I've had were excellent. The one and only downside is to beware the restrooms are not handicapped accessible if someone has a walker or wheelchair. read more

This was my first visit to the diner but my husband's third or fourth. Friendly staff without smothering you. Delicious breakfast food that was not greasy. In addition to our breakfast we shared one chocolate chip pancake. How do you spell yummmm? Fun decor with the top 40's song list that I remember getting every Friday from WLS. Northside Diner is a place I've enjoyed taking friends who come in from out of town. Since it's gone smoke-free, it's been a real joy. The food isn't exotic, but is excellent and quite filling. Their menu has a massive number of offerings...the most egg dishes I've ever seen. The staff is a lot of fun and the owner is extremely pleasant and seems to care about everyone. One could go there dozens of times and not repeat the items on the menu. The rock 'n' roll decor is a hoot. I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more

Went to Northside this morning for breakfast. I found the diner to be quaint, although very crowded. Make sure to enter by the appropriate door, which is located on the south side of the diner, or you may get reprimanded by your waitress. And god forbid you change your mind while ordering. Our waitress was very rude and the food only fair. I doubt I will ever return there and can not recommend it. read more

Excellent. Just moved here from California, my picky mother was in town and we were delighted to discover that they offer egg whites. Service was excellent, staff was charming. My one complaint was that the coffee was not very strong. The food was excellent. Hash Browns were just excellent. Portions were more than excellent. Excellent establishment! I have never actually written a review. I was hesitant to even start off writing a bad one. That's why I'm giving 2 stars. Traveling from Michigan to Chicago looked on yelp for something more unconventional to eat. So sick of the chain restaurants. This diner had great reviews so, I thought I would try. BIG MISTAKE. Was very busy which I expected to be a good thing. Waited in line for not that long of a time. Maybe 10 minutes. Was instructed to sit anywhere. Table still had plates food and cups on it. Which wasn't a problem because the waitresses were quick to clean things up. This is where things went down hill. I was "Greeted" by a waiter. "What's up guys?" He smelled like a brewery.. Still decided to stay. My husbands biscuits and gravy came out cold. And 20 minutes before my daughters Mickey Mouse pancake. When I asked my waiter what was taking so long he replied, "Its cool man it will be up shortly" What the heck? Will NOT return. Wish I would have had a better experience given the reviews. read more

I've been to this location numerous times, I always come in although it takes awhile to be greeted. I always give it a second chance, this time I experienced the worst customer service. There was hair in my food, the lady took the plate without saying anything, left the cheese cup she left for my fries. Came back and asked if I wanted a new sandwich, I said no of course because I'm pregnant and nauseous from the fact there was a hair in my sandwich. She took the sandwich that came with fries off my bill, which was fabulous. But left me to pay for my cheese cup that was still full not touched. I asked them nicely to take that off, because honestly what am I supposed to do with a full cheese cup and no food? Eat a cheese cup for breakfast, no thanks. Money's not an issue, it's the fact the service was awful and rude and they still made me for the cheese cup. Not to mention, the waitress's giggling in the back.
