Kind of a weird building but very down to earth inside. You order at the counter and then they call out your name. It's pretty quick. I like the eggs, American fries and toast and it's under six dollars. The eggs are perfect. The toast comes dry, which I love and there's butter and jelly available. My husband gets their ham because it's a ton of ham and it's ham off the bone, which is what he prefers over a roll. Again those eggs are just perfection. read more

I stopped here twice last week.... Lunch- hotdog and fries with a pizza puff.... Fabulous.... It was more food then I could handle and everything tasted as it should.... The counter gal was nice and they brought out my food but you bud your own table when finished Breakfast- eggs. Toast, fried potatoes sausage and a side of biscuits and gravy....the eggs and sausage were fine.... Toast was sturdy ( which is good) but not buttered.... Potatoes were absolutely flavorless.... Yucko. I would never order them again. A waist ()of potato... the biscuits and gravy were not good either.... Biscuit was a terribly dry frozen product..... gravy.... Did not taste like their breakfast sausage at all... their sausage was good....the sausage grace was not..... My husband said his canned corned beef hash was good and his potatoes too were awful..... 10/30/24: Ordered a Pizza Puff and Onion Rings. Pizza Puff was okay - hard to mess that up but the onion rings were probably the WORST I have ever had. They were "soggy, just wet, not crispy at all, all clumped together in one clump." I'd be embarrassed to present there to a customer. Someone said in another preview that they excel in breakfast. But I saw the sign and the snarky funny comments and said to myself - anyone with that kind of quirky is my soulmate and deserves a chance. Well it did not disappoint- not a gourmet breakfast not anything out of the ordinary JUST damn good breakfast food at very reasonable prices. And did I mention the light and fluffy biscuits that taste homemade and are not dry or hard but deliciously light and fluffy? And an entire egg folded around the cheese and nestled on a light and fluffy biscuit with two or three strips of bacon that are perfectly crisp!!! Like eating inside a steam room. The dining room was hotter and more humid than outside. While here we had a chili dog, a Chicago dog, a corn dog/, fried mushrooms, and the chicken sandwich special. I'm a big fan of cheap food, fried food, and chili dogs in particular. Still, none of the food here was any good. I'd describe all of it as bland, boring, and not really worth eating. Not quite worth arguing with the management about either, though. So we just tried a couple bites of each thing and tossed the rest, shaking our heads as we walked out the door. P.S. Seeing into the kitchen was disturbing not so much for anything specific but for a general haphazard and confused nature of the staff and product. read more

Typically I love kosmos and it's frequently our Sunday morning breakfast go to establishment for my family of 5, however after today, I don't believe that I'll be back. To order ahead of time (because you have a sick baby in the car and don't want to wait) and then be told we don't have an order for your name are you sure you ordered? What kind of question is that? Obviously I'm sure I called it in otherwise I would've just ordered rather than tell you I placed an order Then to be over charged for what I didn't order and try to explain that's NOT what I ordered just to be argued with again and told well you didn't order because I take all of the orders (clearly you don't because i spoke with a young lady not a man so unless you are a lady it certainly was not you sir) then hear a comment from some troll inside "do we have a crier?" First off all, super unprofessional and inappropriate. Secondly, call it what you will but it's extremely frustrating to call ahead then be told you didn't, argued with, have to wait even longer and then be over charged just to be argued with some more and then mocked from inside is disgusting. To the unpleasant and unprofessional staff that I encountered today...shame on you. You all have no business working in public service if you can't handle it. I sincerely hope that you don't treat all of your customers this way. I also hope that someone who has some sort of direction at this place see this and does some serious evaluations of the staff you employ. read more

I went to Kosmo's today and I am usually very pleased with my experience. When I go to Valpo, this is the place I love to eat! Today I went through the drive thru and was greeted by a very rude employee. She pulled open the window and looked at me like I was really bothering her. I told her my order, and when I asked about salad dressing she said "what kind do you want" with a tone and a rolling of her eyes. Then I asked her about soup, and again seemed like answering me was really a bother to her. I work in customer service and even if I am not having a good day, I don't bring it to work, and I don't treat customer like that. I will tell you, I will return to Kosmo's because of the wonderful food I received, and hopefully next time I will receive better customer service. If I was the owner i would really consider having a talk to this woman, and see why she giving off a bad impression. ( I was there at 10:30 a.m.) read more

We have lived near this little restaurant for many years and have never visited it. We recently decided to go there for breakfast. This is a very small place and has about 6 tables in the dining room. It's an open kitchen, so you can see the cooks flipping pancakes and turning eggs. We also, unfortunately, saw someone peeling potatoes, no doubt for hash browns. It made me a little uncomfortable because the bucket holding the newly peeled potatoes was sitting on the floor. What would happen if they missed? It was freezing in here. There was no heat on in the place and I believe they had been open for a few hours when we arrived. It doesn't appear to have a heat vent in the small dining room. The coffee was the kind of terrible tasting that happens when you neglect to clean the coffee pot. I returned my cup of coffee and got tea instead. Much better. The breakfast was surprisingly good and inexpensive. We had eggs, French toast, hash browns and toast. It was really good. However, the meal was ruined by having to wear our coats. We would only go back again if there was no other place open and then we'd have take out. This place has been around for a long time and I know they have some devoted followers, but that doesn't include us. read more

Kosmos is a typical hole in the wall hot dog joint but with more variety. If you are expecting an awesome dining experience go else where. The decor sucks, the place is small and it's cramped. But the owner is awesome and is almost always there and takes pride in his little eatery. A couple of times I saw him comping meals for frequent fliers of the establishment when they were short on money. The food is cooked to order and the menu is actually quite extensive for such a small place. Plus the prices are outrageously low. My partner at work and I used to come in on our lunch hour a couple of times a week because we could get 2 dogs, a generous order of fries and coke for about $3.00. We would add an extra drink and both eat for about $2 a piece. The breakfast menu is huge and the lunch menu is just as big. Keep in mind the food is fast, cheap and greasy this isn't fine dining. They left food out of our order, charged us for it, and were extremely rude when I called to complain. I had to explain it to them 3 times and was hung up on when I became irritated with them after explaining this simple matter for the 3rd time! They comped our entire order which was nice but not worth being treated so terribly. The food that we did receive was mediocre at best. I went here for the first time with my 5 children and their grandma before a shopping spree day. We ordered 7 different meals. The cashier was a sweetheart, but there was a girl that was making the food on the line that had a horrible attitude. Rolling of the eyes, talked rudely, etc. When we finally received our order, there was only 5 meals. 1 was wrong, so I asked the rude girl to correct it. Then, we waited and waited and never got the last 2 orders. So we went up and asked where they were, the rude girl repeatedly rolled her eyes and was outrageously rude to us about her mistake. Then she yelled at the cashier for the mistake and the cashier put all of our order on the paper. The rude girl was at complete fault for this. There was no apology for the mix up, just full blown attitude. Then after we left, I started feeling really sick. I thought it was just me..now all of us are down very sick. It is food poisoning of some sort. It is very painful, and my kids are so miserable as well as myself and grandma. I will never go back. It is a shame because the prices were amazing. They should really check that rude girl. She needs to find a job that is not in customer service, and I told her this while I was there. read more
