Checking out Sementos.. wow what a interesting story about its origin and 4 generations of family ownership. Wonderful old school bar/restaurant. Love the wood roof and the outdoor area is beyond description. Its like an adult outdoor playground. Looks like bags and bacci ball and other games. Waiting to try the walleye and shrimp dish. Update. Big complaint..... the walleye was so good that I wanted moooorrrrre. The shrimp although huge was also sooooooo yummy we wanted more. Seriously they were good portions we were just hungry as hell and it was soooo good. As to comments, no food outside, too many messes and its too full inside. Smoke? Meh, it was not overwhelming and they do have a smoke free dinning room sealed off from the main room. And if your too sensitive for that ...... well your a wimp and should order carry out or stick some cotton up your nose. Now back to hunger, we decided since they do not carry desserts to order a italian beef and split it. Yes we were pigs but hot damn was it good. My first time at this restaurant,DEFINITELY MY LAST! (I'm a cigar smoker) On the entrance door I see smoking allowed. So I walk back to my car to get my cigar. Watching Sox game having a cold beverage nothing said about smoking my cigar. Order a sandwich and finished still nothing said about cigar order a cold beverage smoking cigar while ordering nothing said still. Then after 1hr in the restaurant they told me don't allow cigar smoking. Extremely unprofessional!!!!! And totally DISCRIMINATED AGAINST WHILE CLEARLY STATING ON FRONT DOOR SMOKING ALLOWED!!!! read more

Our first visit. It is an actual bar so keep that in mind. We went for dinner. The food was good. Cole slaw was a little sweeter than I like, but still good. Always friendly the service is spot on. We like to get the fish special on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. You get plenty of fish plus two sides. The only thing I find wrong is they are a smoking establishment. Good thing they have a large deck for seating. There is everything to like here. I highly recommend. read more

On December 21, 2023, I ordered an Italian Beef Sandwich which came cold with the au jus barely warm. I told the server as she took the sandwich back only to bring it out again probably colder than the first time she brought it. As I told her it was still cold with the cheese feeling like it just came out of the fridge, she sounded annoyed saying it shouldn't be cold. I told her, right it shouldn't be. We used to love this place we would order fried Walleye which was excellent then a few years went by Covid they stopped using the back room which was smoke free! Now you can't even get fried fish at all and their Prime Rib was very thinly sliced and had no taste! The quality of the food had really gotten worse we won't be back very dissatisfied no smoke free area is terrible. Also they don't honor Military or Senior citizens discounts. read more

Went to Semento's for their fish dinner. Carry out because it is still a smoking establishment. This is by far my favorite fish dinner. It is a lightly breaded white fish. You get two sides (fries, baked, slaw, salad, cottage cheese). Worth the price for this dinner. You will not be disappointed. read more

Tale of two bars: either I get full service plus amazing conversations with the bartenders...or I'm completely neglected for 15-20 minutes waiting for a drink (busy or not). The food here is really good and the "after hours" menu has some solid options on it as well. Haven't tried the outside patio/game area yet but it looks real nice. Even when its busy, I've never felt overcrowded nor uncomfortable. Quite rare for a bar. read more

The food was ok, our waitress was really great, but the smell of cigarette smoke was so overpowering we will never eat there again. Nothing like sitting next to a couple who sit down and proceed to chain smoke, before, during and after their meal. How about keeping the dining area "smoke free" and let the smokers go to the bar? Seems more important to be able to smoke than it is to eat. Had to shower and wash my hair when we got home. My coat still stinks. read more

Wonderful food. Italian beef was spot on! Chicken florentine was delicious too. Service was good, nothing spectacular, but the server was very friendly and relatable. It was busy but the staff did a good job of working together, taking out food for each other and checking on guests for each other. I'd definitely go back! read more

I had take out lasagna from Sementos on 8/20/21. It was NOT good. I kind of got the impression it may have been warmed up multiple times before my purchase. Well, I was hunger so I ate some of it. We've been here so many times for their fried perch, best ever!!! Along with their green beans and baked potato, it's just delish. Very lively inside with a great wait staff too. They seated us on their nice outdoor deck. The flowers are a beautiful touch. My white perch (pollack) was nicely coated and melted in my mouth. Cole slaw was delicious and sweet. Fish is only on menu for weekend. Hubby had meat lasagna. He had it here before and remembers it tasted better before. I tasted it and it was delightful. They had my go to drink, an old fashioned. Above average bar food and some nice menu items like walleye that set the place apart for a casual lunch or dinner. They also have a non-smoking room for those who like to eat without having smoke in their faces, which I know is a concern for many with bars in Indiana still allowing smoking inside. The real appeal is that most nights you can go in with a good group of friends and have a nice, fairly quiet evening where you can all have conversations and drink in relative peace. The staff is quick, are pleasant to talk to, make good drinks, and remember your preferences within a few visits. The other top-notch feature is that there's actually room to move around, even if it's crowded, and if you're the pool or darts playing type, you can comfortably play your game without worrying about jabbing someone with a cue or sticking a dart in someone's shoulder blade by accident. Also, there's Skee-ball, which is brilliant. It is without question the best bar in the city for those who aren't into the college party, woo girl, Jagermeister lifestyle. read more

Updated review: Sementos is still a cozy, welcoming kind of place. We love the hot wings (best in NWI), the Italian beef, and the fish dinners, among other food items. The beer is cold, and the mixed drinks have a generous pour. The absolute best thing about Sementos is the friendly, fast service offered by people who seem to love their jobs and their customers. I can honestly say that the Sementos family treats their guests like family...so rare to find nowadays. One note: the bar side can get a little smoky sometimes, but there is a non-smoking dining area available. read more

Found the smoke-free dining room and then was told we had to leave because no one under 21 was permitted in the restaurant, including the smoke free area, due to their desire to keep cancer sticks indoors and in keeping in compliance with state laws. My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Semento's in valpo. Our friends ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich which looked delicious [they split it since it was huge]. I had the white lake perch which was cooked perfectly. My husband had a huge burger on pretzel bun. All of our food came quickly and our waitress rocked. We also enjoyed nice drinks. I love my crown apple drink. It was so unique. Definitely a great place to check out. They have a non smoking section too. It's a little gem with good prices and huge helpings of food. My wife and I were looking for a place we'd never been. I've driven by this place I don't know how many times over the past seven years, but this was the first time stopping. Ordered the Italian beef and wow, that's the best I've ever had. The beef was perfect, the melted mozzarella and grilled peppers were exactly right, and the bread was amazing. I am beyond upset with how they handle their money. I have been there 3 times total and the last two times I have been there within the last month or so, I have been double charged... They charge for the bar, then for the Cafe.. And I am not the only one who has been double charged. My buddy was doubled charged as well. If you have used a card there, I recommend you check your account for double charges. Despite that, its a great bar that I enjoy. A change of scenery compared to the others in Valpo. The staff is very friendly. They handled both of my situations right away and treated me well, apologizing for the inconvenience. read more
