Oh my goodness, the service (Isabel) from the time we walked in till we left was excellent. I'm so glad my friend introduced me to Phil B's Cafe on Roosevelt Rd several years ago. I'm now a Veggie Omelet Snob & no one in Chesterton nor Valpo has yet to compare. The veggies are Fresh, Crisp bite & sliced perfectly. Not chopped diced or hidden. Topped with ripe Bright green Avacados. You can get hash browns & toast, but I always get Fruit & Rye bread at an upcharge. This meal keeps me Happy & full all day. Give them a try, I have yet to have a bad meal. I also Love the Rueben, Patty Melt, French Toast & Chillequiles. That's right they have a Mexican Menu as well. Shh "It's Vip only." Lol & the Fries are crispy just the way you would want them to be. The meat lovers skillet -minus the gravy - was delicious. I asked for the gravy on the side, and I am glad I did. It was like a country white gravy, and I normally don't care for that. Each meat, bacon, ham & sausage was chopped up so small that you get a taste of all 3 with each bite. I declined the toast and opted for a half order of crunchy french toast. Ok I will say it again, and I am a snotty self righteous elitist pig about omelets -- BUT DAMN THIS IS THE BEST OMELET I HAVE EVER HAD. And consistently fantastic. The huevos rancheros omelet (not the skillet) is the best I have ever had! Added fresh avocado and Serrano peppers and the homemade salsa is off the hook. Wow!!! The waffle has FRESH blueberries not a compote!!! The batter for the waffles tastes fresh and not out of a box. I now have confirmation of yet another premium ingredient in this understated hidden gem, yes virginia the waffles are from scratch NOT a mix!!! But to update this place fairly I have to say this ITS GETTING TOO CROWDED AND I AM WILLING TO USE VIOLENCE if I am faced with a seating issue. LOL. This is my favorite brunch spot in Valparaiso. They have my fav breakfast, corned beef hash omelette, and they also have delicious crunchy French toast, and the food is cheap for large portions. I wish they were open a little later in the day, but there is a reason the place always seems to be full of customers! read more

Skillets were horrible. I had fiesta skillet it had SO many onions in it that's all you could taste. I like onions but literally three quarters of the ingredients were onions. Husband had a skillet it had a tremendous amount of bacon bits in it way over powering. Only ate half of each skillet. Delicious food and incredible staff! We were visiting family in Valpo for the weekend when we were first introduced to Phil-B's, and it's the one place we went back to to eat. We had a variety of omelets, their bagel egg sandwich and oatmeal. All of it was tasty and large portions. We had a small child with us, who was getting fussy, and the staff was very helpful bringing out the one food she would eat (orange slices) and even some sweet treats. My avocado and veggie omelette was very good and they were able to accommodate the added spinach I requested. The sausage you could tell was beau meat and not female. It was not appetizing at all. Which I cannot really blame the owners for but I would not go with that supplier ever again. My only real complaint is there is no social distancing between the tables at all. read more

My wife loved her spinach, feta and tomato omelet with fruit (pictured). My ribeye (also pictured) was a bit tough and lacked flavor, and the potatoes and coffee weren't anything to write home about. If you are thinking about ordering food to go or a take out, don't! Huge mistake. You will be home and ready to eat. Then open your containers of slop and realize your mistake and be too late. Ordered what I thought would be a safe choice and not be able to be ruined. I ordered a large waffle with fruit. The waffle was barely "cooked" in the microwave and disgusting looking. Took one look and threw it away! Family ordered 2 skillets and biscuits and gravy. All were greasy and nasty. One of the best kept secrets in Valpo; only serves until 2:00 p.m. Attached to a convenience store/gas station, but don't let the looks deceive you. Mostly populated by regulars/locals. Food's great, prices are very reasonable. Packed on Sunday mornings. Marvelous French toast - especially the crunchy variety (a half order is plenty.) Link sausage is the size of European "bangers" but all meat. Baked, designer oat meal is wonderful (just order a cup, not a bowl - the serving is so substantial.) Expect to leave with 1/2 of your egg, ham & cheese sandwiches or croissants, they are huge. Busy, but friendly, the owner, Scott, is usually somewhere smiling in the background to assure everything is going well. The lunches are quite good, but try it for breakfast first and you will be hooked. Get there before 9:00 on weekdays and order the special: 3 eggs, toast & potatoes for less than $3.00.
