a plate of food with a sandwich and french fries

On our way to Indiana Dunes, just dropped by here to get breakfast. Wow excellent great place. Exceptional service, hard working servers, coffee and water always topped off. Food was great and cheap, country fried steak was soft tender and crispy breading. Gravy wasn't too salty and excellent. Hash browns were extra crispy and amazing. We will be back if we ever visit the dunes again

Visiting Chesterton for the first time & tried this place for breakfast. I had an order of eggs Benedict with hashbrowns, which was really good. Tried the blueberry pancakes & it was by far the best pancakes I've had. The kids had an order of pancakes & french toast, which were delicious. The interior was so amazimg! As you feel you went back in time. I totally recommend coming here for breakfast. There is so much energy & the staff are super friendly. I'm definitely making this a place to come whenever I visit.

My nephew was in Valpo for work - he's from Minneapolis - so we came from Fort Wayne to meet him for lunch. We are "local" restaurant lovers so I got on Yelp & found this gem. Food was great! Cute little diner. The only pic I took was was not of food but this guy ! My granddaughter called him "papa" lol I would recommend going to grab a bite here!

Outside and inside is filled with old celebrities and musicians. Super cool place.

What an amazing gem right outside of the dunes park. The nests are amazing, cheddar jalapeño biscuit, blueberry pancake. - BOOM! Love it all. Need to come back to try the milkshakes.

French Toast, Sausage Links, Coffee, and a Biscuit

You walk into this place and it takes you back to a classic diner. Jukebox and all. We had some great food here! I ordered the French toast, sausage links, and a homemade biscuit on the side. The French toast was fresh. The sausage links were perfectly cooked and delicious. The biscuit was by far the best thing on the menu. Everyone at our table agreed that the biscuits were fantastic. One of the best biscuits I've ever had. The waiting time was about 15 min when we arrived around 9:45 am on a Sunday. We were seated in about 10 minutes. We got our drink orders in quickly and I enjoyed some coffee. Coffee was good. They were a bit busy and it took a while to receive our food. They knew that we had been waiting a while and so our drinks were comped. Very kind of them. They were also very communicative so that helped alleviate any tension from waiting. I honestly didn't mind the wait too much in general since I was enjoying my coffee and chatting with family. Would definitely go here again!!

Chicken omelette with curly fries

This has the perfect diner atmosphere- cute, kitschy paintings on the wall, red glittery booths, and a small counter for solo diners to eat. My friend brought me here and I happy with all the breakfast and lunch choices! I think my eyes bugged out when I saw I could get not only hashbrowns, but tater tots, curly fries, and regular fries as a side for an egg dish. Curly fries for the win! I ordered their chicken omelette, which came with mozzarella, tomato, onion, and pepper. The portion was large, hot and cheesy. The chicken in it was rubbery and hard, which was really my only complaint with the whole meal. I'd definitely skip this next time be cause of the chicken. I ended up picking some of the chicken out, and the rest of the eggs were good. The fry portion was HUGE. They came out hot and crispy too. They were heaven! The raisin toast came smothered in butter, and was real good too. I'd love to come back in the future and try something else!

Excellent greasy spoon diner. Large portions, never ending coffee, huge menu, and good food. Everything you expect from a diner.

Heard a lot about this place and finally stopped. Food was just ok, average breakfast food. Service was great. Remember Cash only.

Best place in town for breakfast. Order the nest. Seriously, order the nest. The hand made milkshakes are awesome too.

I had the "meatloaf" which was brisket/short rib combined with a nice sauce on top. Absolutely delicious. It came with mashed potatoes/gravy and bacon green beans. They use the fresh green beans that "squeak" when you bite into them. Full bar with some hard to find bourbons. I will definitely be back!

Funny enough, we had visited a sister restaurant by the same owners in Miami a few years ago and loved it. The menu was different (more seafood based) but the vibe was the same...laid back, fun and in a super cute setting. We sat in the bar area and we're there for happy hour. Honestly folks, you can't beat the happy hour prices for both food or drinks. I went with a glass of wine and hubby had a beer on draft. We decided on fried pickles because who doesn't love them? I know fried pickles and wine... Not the most common combo but that's how I role. For our entrees we both had chicken. And let me tell you, it was cooked perfectly. The crispy skin was amazing! You shouldn't be shocked that I ate the skin, I had just finished fried pickles so I knew there would be nothing healthy about this meal!! The biscuit was also very good. And did I mention the happy hour prices... Bonus!! Our waitress was the bartender and she was so great. She was warm and friendly and made our great experience even better! I actually complimented her for her service, she was so above and beyond and was surprised to learn she hasn't worked there that long. I think her name was Michelle, but sadly I waited a few weeks to write this review and now I'm not positive (def not an Elite move).

The space is cozy and fun with travel- themed decor, and the food is fresh, delicious, and perfect comfort staples at a reasonable price. Highly recommend the skillets - the Spicy Chorizo was excellent and I also super enjoyed the Porky Pig Skillet with extra vegetables. Can say I never had sausage gravy on a skillet before and it was perfectly balanced. It's a fan-favorite for a reason! Also, the biscuits are light and fluffy and delicious. Will definitely come again if in the area - bonus is the cute little downtown and park to walk a bit afterwards if you eat too much.

It's a fixture in Downtown Chesterton, such as it is. Often busy with locals. It's diner food at a good price. Not huge but adequate portions, but most customers really do not need to eat huge portions anyway. (There is an obesity epidemic in this country!). Service is usually good. Parking in back and on the street. Air conditioned. Coffee is standard diner coffee that one finds in thousands of similar joints and most restaurants (robusta beans- the cheap stuff), which lacks flavor although it is hot. If you doctor your coffee, makes no difference since you can't taste the coffee anyway. I opt for orange juice or ice tea usually. Has a bench out front if you want to sit for a spell. It's been awhile since I checked out the restroom (there is a comment on that), so I do want to survey as that is what the cooks and wait staff use- and it's important that the facilities be spotless with soap, towels, etc., to avoid disease vectors migrating into the food from the cook or servers' hands. They do not have "bussers", so your waitress will be handling your food and the last customers' dirty dishes, which is a common restaurant money-saving practice that I do not think should be allowed anywhere. We've got immigrants who need work, so let's get them a job instead of chasing them with masked men.
