So we went back to have a look. Nope. It's the same restaurant it ever was, it is not a "Greek" restaurant. In fact, there were exactly two Greek-ish offerings buried in the back of the menu. First time visit after driving past it for years. Friendly and attentive staff and the place really started to get busy closer to 0900 on this Sunday morning. Went with a make your own breakfast picking four items from a good list of choices. Pancake was huge and really was more like a cake in thickness. It easily soaked up all the very hot syrup and I probably should have asked for more syrup but I ended up only eating half of everything just due to the portion sizes. I came out off a friend's recommendation and a whim. WELL worth it! I got the SoCo Benedict and my friend got the chicken biscuit. Both meals were on point. My friend even mentioned that the hot chocolate as not made from a powder mix. As she is a hot chocolate snob, this was icing on the cake for her. Biscuits were soft and fluffy. We've been to this establishment a few times but last night was the last time we will ever step foot in that place. The waitress was impatient, rude and never came to refill drinks or check on anything, she was outside most of the time kissing her boyfriend. One person in our group needed gluten free and when she ordered a gluten free meal as advertised on the menu, it came out with a piece of bread on the fish and gravy on the mashed potatoes. It was sent back just to return a second later on a new plate. My food, the gyro, was ice cold and the pita bread was hard as a rock. The waitress never apologized and acted like I was lying so she put her hands all over and shrugged her shoulders. No manager ever came over. Another person ordered one waffle with chocolate chips and strawberries. It came with half of strawberry on it and 5 chocolate chips and we were charged $2 for the half of strawberry and $2 for the 5 chocolate chip! Really? The service and food are TERRIBLE! read more

Been here a few times and always had a good experience. Nothing phenomenal, but good. Today we took our extended family for breakfast there and we're very disappointed. Two of us had the Western omelet and it came out with the cheese not melted in the inside. I asked our server this was normally how they serve it and her answer was depends on how quickly they are trying to get the food out. So they don't finish cooking things if they are busy???? No apology, or offering to heat it up. Nothing. Tasted gross with pieces of shredded cheese in it. As we were paying we noticed the bottom of my husbands half drunk water was brown. Picking it up and looking at the bottom, we discovered it looked like it had been used for a chocolate milk and not properly cleaned. I showed her this too and she completely dismissed it. We've been coming here as a family for years and it's always been excellent! Large portion for the price, delicious food, quick service and usually super friendly and welcoming. Today was not that. Front staff was very nice, but the waiter was not. Never checked on us, nor refilled drinks, and just overall seemed to not want to be here. I had country fried steak breakfast and while the eggs and potatoes where absolutely delicious, the steak and gravy it self was very much not. No flavor, dripping with grease, and all gristle and fat. Very disappointed. Couldn't tell him because he never came back. Do not recommend that meal but the gyros are always good. read more

I think Northside 29 is finally starting to get the hang of things. I came in for a late breakfast this morning. They were pretty busy - lots of cars in the parking lot. They still managed to seat me promptly. I ordered the Sausage Gravy and Biscuits with two eggs over easy. My server Tracie was prompt, and the food came out fairly quickly. Food was hot and tasty! As an aside - Amelia should stick to her own experiences when writing her reviews. She has no idea what happened during my previous visits to Northside 29. Haven't been to Northside 29 dinner for breakfast for a long time b/c my previous experience was not good. We decided to give them another this shot Saturday (May 8), but that was a a mistake! The wife ordered eggs Benedict, eggs poached well and English muffin extra crispy. I ordered country fried steak, w/eggs over medium. My wife's order was the exact opposite of what she ordered! Runny over-easy eggs and a soggy English muffin. I saw the waitress write the details on her slip, but the kitchen didn't follow the requests. My country fried steak was tasteless, both the meat and gravy had no taste! The steak was tender, my eggs were not over medium, probably more like over easy w/1 flip for about 1 minute. Food was okay, and only moderately expensive. The interior isn't super quaint and they have some weird rules. I rode in on my bike one day and asked to be seated outside since there were some tables outside, but because I was alone the staff told me they didn't want me out there taking up their tables just in case a group came in. You know, you could find fancier restaurants. You could even find fancier diners. But, I double dare you to find one that serves better food, with great sized portions! We have stopped here before and consider it a "must" when we are traveling in the rural areas of Virginia. It is a family run place (run very well, I might add) with a large menu and, for my taste since I grew up in a Greek restaurant family, it has a surprising number of Greek and Greek-inspired dishes. While the Greek food served here are not my mother's recipes, they are VERY good and they satisfy even the picky Greek diner. Another thing that tells me this place belongs on everyone's list is how very well they do the simple stuff - the BLT tasted beautiful, bacon forward, with not too much mayo and it was well balanced. The cole slaw was so good that we had to order a 2nd helping! From the crowds in the parking lot, I am not divulging new information when I rave about the food. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich with mayo, tomato, salt and pepper. I'll try to post an image if the app allows, but instead of an option of white, wheat, rye, or whatever, I received a small hamburger bun with old tasting tuna, tomato, onion, lettuce and no S&P. $7.95. + tax.
