I came in today to buy some gum because I had an interview and needed a pick me up. Went up to the register and was greeted by an Ariana. She was absolutely charming in every way and was very comfortable whipping up a conversation. Even some of the other staff chimed in on the jokes she was making. Very great atmosphere here. Not sure why there's so many bad reviews. I come here a lot and have never had a problem. But today really reminded me of why this Northgate is such a great store. Mexican grocery stores are the best because as soon as you walk in, you can smell the freshly baked Mexican bolillo bread, tortillas, tamales, cooked chicharrón, carnitas, hot chocolate drinks from the bakery and food court. Northgate Markets, remind me of my visits to Mexico with all the amazing food, piñatas, and clay ceramics they import from Mexico. We stopped at Northgate Market the Paramount, CA location because we were in the area. We bought chicken, pork and sweet tamales they were EXCELLENT!! We also bought a champurrado drink and Atole de nuez "Mexican hot drink with pecans" both were 5/5 stars but my favorite drink was the Atole with pecans. It's a sweet creamy drink with chopped pecans. Their store in Paramount provided excellent customer service. If you've never been to these stores, check out your nearest Northgate Market. It was an okay experience. Nothing about it screamed 5 stars to me. Lines at the counter are limited which leads to longer wait times checking out. I went there for the ceviche, which is currently at $11.99 a pound. I got the ceviche de camaron y pulpo. This stuff was SPICY, but oh so good! I did have to remove a fair amount of the chopped chillies in there and I realized that they also add in habanero chillies into the mix. Service was okay. The place can get crowded. I tend to only go when I want my ceviche fix. read more

Northgate market is one of my favorite places to buy groceries, today I had a horrible experience with a cashier named Angelica, she began bagging my groceries as the associates always do. I would really improve there 10 items line check out the times I've gone it's always the same problem it's never respected, people with over 10 items always go to check out on this line and the cashier never tells them anything they take them, even if we tell the customer they ignore us also , this morning I went for 5 items I needed and this lady in front of me had over 20 items I told her this lane is for 10 items she ignored me and went to asked the cashier the cashier said yes it's ok instead of her saying to her she needs to go to another cashier this would help not make the line so long which it ended up becoming so long when it was not , the cashier took her anyway, this store has to have more respect to there customers and rules why even have a 10 items lane if you don't even limit the items I know other stores do, I guess this is why this is the reason I stopped coming to this store but I was in the area and I needed something really fast it will be a long time I will be back here again or maybe not read more

As a frequent customer at Northgate I am always greeted by the kind manager (the pale one with glasses); She is super helpful and takes her time to help me find the quality dog food that I like. Not only that but she makes me feel welcomed and at ease because as a child I forced to eat dog food for dinner. And that never really went away even with the years of therapy, so I still snack on it once in a while; But regardless, she assisted me along the way and even recommended the best brand of dog food I've ever had. Short staffed as the managers are cashiers and no security either. My dad's truck got stolen right in front of the store (literally where the entrance door and carts are). My dad was left with no comfort and no one to help him. He's 60 and we are in holidays season. Disappointing to know there's no customer service or security in this one. Tortas ($7)-The tortas are bomb! Large tortas with layers and layers of ingredients. Your choice of meat. I got it with carne asada which was delciious and flavorful. Very generous with the amount of meat in each sandwich. They start with a layer of refried beans, followed by the meat, lettuce, avocado, tomato, jalepenos, and huge block of queso fresco. The tortas are not only beautifully made, they are tasty with every bite. To top it off, the bread is toasted perfectly on the grill. Large tacos loaded with meat for $2. Choose from carne asada, chicken, lengua, and carnitas. They were out of lengua which my coworkers rave about. I will have to try that some other time. I got one carne asada, chicken and carnitas. The meats were bland and did not have much flavor. My tacos came with green salsa which give the tacos a good flavor and kick. The tacos had double tortillas which could have been split into 6 tacos since there was so much meat. I had this for lunch and was stuffed for the rest of the day. I didn't even have dinner that day. Agua Frescas ($2): Many many choices for you to choose from. There are milky and sweeter drinks with sweet condensed milk and other lighter fruit/vegetable drinks. We waited at the meat department for over all an hour because they only had one person. Really? Are you serious? Only one person for over 15 customers waiting in line. When we ask the manager to add extra people to help with the line, she just froze, she had nothing to say, what kind of management is this? Won't be back. But I do recommend Carniceria Nueva Vallarta, is just down the street on Alondra & Downey. We went there & they have the best meat you can find. Way better than Northgate, better service & no lines. The store itself is fine. Pricey at times but ultimately a good place for our groceries. My gripe is with their money sending area, Prospera. The people in that area are utterly rude and do not seem to have ANY customer service training. I've had issues two separate times when I tried to send money to Mexico. First, they tell me I can't send a certain amount without two different identifications because I had sent money the month before. What business is it of theirs how often or how much I send??? When I tried to send money today, I was DENIED because supposedly I wasn't the person on my driver's license. Seriously??? Never again! read more

The store has false advertising and poor customer service. My mother went in on 2/25/18 to make a purchase. The paper and online sale ads were advertising Frito Lays brand chips as 3 for $5. The cashier rang up the chips as $2.69 a bag instead the advertised price from the store. I went online and looked at the 2/21/18-2/27/18 weekly ad and sure enough it has the advertisement my mother was trying to tell the cashier about. She was very rude and asked her for payment before my mother insisted that the ad had a 3 for $5 price. The cashier sent another employee to check the price but my mother simply asked for her change back and exited the store. Will not return here. read more

Very horrible customer service from the staff of Prospera. It's not the message is the tone of the message that is being conveyed to the customer. When you provide all the documentation that is requested and simply because they don't like you because they can't provide a legit reason why money can't be sent to your country is not acceptable. The excuse is "money gram is stricter", but in what way? Provide reasons so all customers can prepare with the knowledge and be able to support documents in order to send money. For the customers that are in line, they do not have a sign/list of the required paperwork that is needed to send money as it's confidential as it "depends per person." But having a generic message on the counter for all persons that are in line for hours when the lines are long. Should not be hard to do nor confidential. A simple sign saying "please be prepared to provide the following documents, if needed xxx as rules and regulations have changed with Money Gram". This way a lot of people don't stand in line for nothing. Or better yet stand in line for an hour to be told on the register you cant send money. Just because it's Paramount and we are Hispanic. The staff cannot treat customers as criminals. The entire Prospera Staff needs retraining on customer service! There is a manager there all the time, pero se pasan la bolita saying "she is not here. We don't have a site manager". Because they don't want to hear complaints from customers. Seriously, if they don't like their job. They need to get a higher education, get a different job and find their soul purpose, but a simple thing as being nice and respectful to customers is not hard to do!!! Northgate should enforce rules of etiquette /customer service to their subleasers that rent booths at their locations. Or better yet if it's that one employee with the attitude, a corrective action should be given or that employee should be permanently be removed from their position. I rarely come to this particular Northgate location...I usually travel to the one on Cherry Ave and Del Amo in Long Beach. WHICH I SHOULD HAVE DONE YESTERDAY! I went in for some pre made rice and beans because I wanted to make dinner quick and simple. The rice was completely rancid! How TF do you ruin something as simply made as rice?! Then I noticed the expiration date 7/14/17!!! That's 2 days old on the shelf! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING should be expired or spoiled from their pre made section...I mean come on they have a cocina right there!! went yesterday and when the cashier was charging me she charged me wrong . . i got 3 bags of flamas doritos they were suppose to be buy 3 for the price of $1.99 . . the cashier charged me $2.49 for each bag i got the receipt to prove it . . then i have also purchased some eggs and somehow they didnt end up in my cart as i was leaving . . i remember seeing the cashier already loading some other customers stuff into the "bag up your groceries zone "so i figured i didnt leave anything behind "wrong"! they were left behind so i noticed when i got home although cashier was very nice but charged me wrong and rushed me to leave which caused me to leave my eggs behind . . next time i will triple check for over-pricing and making sure all my groceries are on my cart read more

I came here to pick up some Mexican ingredients. Parking can be difficult because of the location of the store. I didn't appreciate the cashier speaking to me in Spanish. Yes I understand it's a Hispanic store but don't assume just because someone looks Hispanic that they speak Spanish. Besides this is America.
