Since the existing market shuttered to the announcement of a Northgate Market coming in has been so exciting. The day has come and Northgate has open. I entered through the door and wow, wow, wow! They have everything made fresh in the bakery, the prepared foods including Carnitas, rice, beans, salsas & ceviche. There's an area where they make fresh flour and corn tortillas, an impressive meat counter, fresh produce and even a area where they have fresh squeezed juices. There's only thing they don't have is freshly made churros at this location. If you want churros you'll have to go to the Santa Ana location.

Guacamole bar. Offering no jalapeño, jalapeño , and habanero.

My mom wa visiting during the holiday season and she wanted to prepare a homemade seafood paella…read more We tried going to our normal grocery stores to buy fresh seafood and we couldn't find things like mussels, crab, squid, etc. My bf suggested visiting here so we gave it a try. They have a large parking lot, but it's also pretty bus at times. This is a big grocery store with a wide variety of Asian foods. I got some shrimp chips which I like and cannot find at other stores. The seafood section was PERFECT! They had such a wide variety of seafood from fresh in fish tanks, to frozen in the open freezers. I would definitely highly recommend visiting for fresh seafood and Asian foods. The place is pretty crowded and we did look out of place, but I didn't care. People were friendly and even if they had limited English they would try to communicate with us and help us. It is a pretty crowded space so be aware of that. They form one long queue for the checkout and go sorting through the lanes. Overall I have a new go to place for seafood.

Called them to ask if they could exchange the broken bottle and the lady that answered basically told me theres nothing she could do unless I have proof that it broke there. I always buy boxed soju and never had this happen so I never thought to check inside the box. Mishandled there cuz I drove straight home after buying. She also added that I should have caught it and not bought it. I would never in a million year do a review for the market but I am definitely not returning back to this location. Check everything before you leave the store is a lesson I learned. Looking at the bottom of the box I guess there is a little stain mark lol I should have caught that before buying according to the worker there.

Instead of going to my usual Korean market, I wanted to try something homemade and I'm so glad I did. All of their kimchi is made fresh just days prior, and they offer a great variety with different vegetables and sizes to choose from. It's a small market, but they also carry other Korean goodies, which is a nice bonus. The kimchi I got was really good! super fresh with a nice tangy flavor, well balanced seasoning, and a satisfying crunch. It wasn't very spicy, but still really flavorful and easy to enjoy. So happy to have found this place. I'll definitely be back!

After trying their kimchi, I don't think I can go back to store bought kimchi anymore. I was a little worried about the language barrier since I don't speak Korean, but luckily their son works there full time and helped explain the different kimchi and their fermentation process. He was very knowledgeable and patient. It was really nice supporting a family business, and you can tell there is a lot of care and tradition behind their kimchi. We picked up two jars. The red kimchi is $15 and tastes just like the kimchi you get at a good Korean BBQ restaurant. It is very flavorful and pairs perfectly with grilled meat. Add some KBBQ, a fried egg, and rice and you have a great meal. The white kimchi is $19 and is lighter and refreshing. I enjoy pairing it with pork belly wraps because it balances the richness of the meat really well. It almost feels like a palate cleanser between bites. Both were absolutely delicious. Once I finish these jars, I will definitely be making the drive back again.

Visited the Zion Market in Buena Park for the first time!…read more My first impression was that it's quite a bit bigger than the Irvine location. Inside the bread bag was a partially eaten container of seasoned seaweed that I had been eating. Before I even entered the market, the security guard at the entrance stopped me and, in a confrontational tone, asked, "What's this?" I showed him the container and explained that it was simply the seaweed I had been eating. I asked if there was a problem. He replied that the market sells the same product and that it could be misunderstood. I completely understand the need to prevent shoplifting, but instead of politely explaining the situation, he spoke to me in an accusatory manner from the very beginning and even criticized my tone of voice. I've shopped at many grocery stores, but I've never had a security guard confront me before I even entered the store. It completely ruined the shopping experience for my family. My children were surprised and upset by the security guard's rude behavior. They kept asking me what had happened and why he was talking to us that way, which made the whole experience even more disappointing. To avoid any further misunderstanding, I left the container of seaweed at the entrance before going into the store. This was an extremely unpleasant and disappointing experience.

But they also have a kitchen and do catering, and make their own Kimchi and Ban Chan as well, FRESH DAILY. Man oh man, their KIMCHI is pure perfection! It is what TOSoonEE (Seoul Kimchi in Garden Grove) used to taste like. $20 but oh so worth it!!! - Fresh ingredients - High quality chili peppers - Not fishy at all - Very well balanced - And nicely fermented so you can start eating as soon as you get home - Today they had the POGI kimchi (which is the full length cabbage heads, that you slice into bite sized chunks), it was so freakin good! They also had picked roots/leaves, etc. - I picked up a few to try that were on sale for $4.99 They had a frozen red bean mochi for $6.99. - It was wrapped in a fragrant leaf - So the mochi takes on the leaf's flavor - Super simple but tastee They also had a mini-dried-shrimp stir fry banchan. - perfectly done Man, they have so much other stuff, grains, teas, dried items, etc. gotta go taste the whole store. They said for catering, you can just call in advance, with a min order of $30. So reasonable. They are open Mon - Sat. until 7pm. Closed on Sundays. They are in the same retail center as Thai Lady. Parking can be tight, cos there is also a martial arts place, parents/parking, etc.

The store definitely gives Daiso and Miniso energy, with shelves packed full of Disney and Sanrio inspired goodies. Some items are priced a bit higher, but honestly, Daiso lost a lot of its magic for me after bumping its base price to $2.25. What used to feel like a budget friendly treasure hunt now occasionally feels like a comedy sketch where I'm staring at a tiny plastic trinket asking myself "this cost how much?" Ebisu does have plenty of stuffed animals and the anime plushies with astronomical price tags, though. I had excitedly picked up a medium sized Stitch plushie, only to flip it over and discover it was well over $50. My heart nearly stopped. Thankfully, there are still plenty of affordable gems hidden throughout the store. My personal happy place was the stationery aisle- specifically, the glorious wall of pens. No, these aren't premium Japanese brands like Sarasa or Pilot. They're made in China pens, but they're outrageously adorable. At just $1-$3 each, they practically hopped into my basket on their own. I spent an embarrassingly long time admiring colors, clicking pens, and convincing myself I absolutely needed the extra whimsy. My inner pre-teen was beyond giddy. I'm pretty sure I reach peaked serotonin in that aisle. As an unexpected bonus, I also found corn sticks in the snack aisle- a snack I pretty much inhale. Between the stationery treasure trove, nostalgic snacks, and surprisingly solid skincare section (Dr. Jart masks for just $10!), this store managed to hit every one of my weak spots. The cashier was also super sweet! I can absolutely see myself wandering back in the near future- probably for sunscreen, skincare, and definitely not for more pens. That's what I'll keep telling myself, anyway.
