I'm 3 hours from home and looking for something specific. Good employees will make or break a store like this. Having everything under the sun doesn't help much if you can't find it. Two different employees helped me and both of them knew exactly where my stuff was. They were both bright and cheerful and happy to help me. When they were out of something I wanted, she immediately called the closest store to see if they had it, and they did. That's great service! First time here and I was impressed. I have shopped their catalog for years, bought many things from them but today was my first time actually having gone into one of their stores. It was like their catalog came to life. You can buy so many things from Northern it is amazing. Things like trailers and every trailer supply item you can imagine from locks, to tires, to lights and more. Their automotive department is similar. You can also purchase spare gas tanks! Log splitters, clothing, generators, tools (of course!)...you name it, they got it. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful as well, I was asked multiple times if I needed assistance, but I did not, I just wandered through the aisles like a kid in candy land! Although I enjoyed shopping in their retail location, I will probably not stop shopping their catalog as it is a lot more handy than their locations for me! read more

I'd give these folks 5 stars, but it too 2 cashiers almost 25 minutes to check out The line of customers. Great products, good inventory, helpful sales associates. Just no one to collect your money. That's a model for failure. Hope this was just a fluke, as there is a lot of competition out there. read more

Large store with a lot of different items. I will say that in comParison to other similar stores their solar set ups were a little more expensive. I compared a 100 watt panel here to other stores and found their unit was about $30 more. But they did have several charge controllers and inverters along with various types of deep cycle batteries which several stores do not offer so it is a good trade off as a whole. Store itself was very clean and well organized. Clearly marked isles made it easy to navigate. read more

Well, this is my first review on Yelp. I went to the Black Friday sale at Northern Tools today. At 6:00 a m. I went in to buy 2 work shop stools they had on sale, and of course I ended up having a basket full of needed items. When I went to check out the cashier asked if I want to fill out their new credit card application and if I did I would receive 40 dollars off my purchase. I first told her no, but when she asked me a second time I told her I would do it. After filling out the application she gave it to another cashier to process. He then told me my credit card could not be approved today. I asked him why it could not be approved, he said he didn't know why it wasn't approve, but when it was approved I would receive the 40 dollars off my next purchase of over 100 dollars. Since I know my credit score is in the excellent range, I was puzzled. He walked off with no good explanation. The original cashier told me I could call the credit card company and ask them. So, I called the credit card company, and their explanation was the bank was closed until Monday, and I could call Monday to check on my approval. I told the cashier that I would like to speak to the manager. The second cashier that originally took my application was in ear shot, so he quickly answered he was the manager. He said there was nothing he could do about my 40 dollar discount. I then told him that they had falsely stated that I would receive the discount if I would fill out the application for the credit card. He told me he was offended that I said it was false advertising. Then he ask me if I still wanted to make the purchase. I told him the only way was if I received the discount offered. He said he would not honor the discount and that I needed to leave his store. The Northern Tool in Denton just lost a good customer, thanks to Dallas King, manager of the Denton store. Went in to purchase a Stihl Br800 blower. Excellent customer service from the floor attendant to the cashier to the store manager. The purchase experience could not have been better. And the blower is exactly what I was hoping for, another excellent Stihl product. read more

I've always been treated well at this store. Recently purchased two floor jacks that I subsequently returned unopened, due to an error on my part concerning the lift capacity of the jack. Assistant Manager, Alex, went out of his way to resolve the issue, including reserving the last two floor jacks in stock for me with the correct lift capacity. The exchange the following day was a no-brainer. Can't ask for better service than that. Highly recommend. read more

Finally found some time to drive into town (25 to 30 min one way) to respond to sales flier and buy a Keyer foldable work bench for $49.99.... on getting there I found none and when I asked an employee they indicated they were out and could not order me one or even check with another store (farther from me)....This is the second time this company has done this very same thing to me....I am DONE with them and just in case ANYONE from Northern sees this..."PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM YOUR MAILING LIST!"
