I have used North Winds for over 10 years, I can't even say enough good things about them. From the scheduler, to the install technicians and maintenance teams to their manager, even the owner! I've had the opportunity to work with them all and it has always been a great experience! A couple of years ago I fell on hard times and it was COLD... My furnace was getting old and the fix wasn't cheap, I couldn't afford it. They stayed and refused to leave me and the boys in the cold even if it took me time to pay for it. I was VERY stubborn and they told me it was ok to let someone help me... that's something that I have never forgotten. That's genuine. Last week Don and Chase came out and installed a new furnace. Great guys! Called at 8:30 on the dot and we're here less than 30 minutes later. Cleaned up afterwards and even fixed some of the duct work that needed some attention. I will forever 10/10 recommend! I had a problem with my water heater and they were prompt and professional in diagnosing it. It was a complicated installation challenge and it was a very busy time for them such that they could not do the replacement right away. Not only did they tell me that another company might be able to get to me faster, they took the time to call another company and explain the entire situation and the urgency. That really impressed me. I consider a company's willingness to refer a customer to a competitor as the pinnacle of what it means to be a customer-first company. read more

I am always wary of repair persons, whether it's related to automobiles, cars, or appliances; mainly because I'm not knowledgeable in these subjects. However, North Winds made me feel very comfortable about the repair process. The technician was polite, courteous and at no time made me feel ignorant about my lack of knowledge. They were able to fix the issue within an hour and told me what the problem was, what the fix was, and that our furnace (although old) was in good shape and should be fine for the next few years, but that we should keep an eye on it. He stated that usually furnaces that old (this one is probably going on 20+ years) were prone to leaking CO2, but he checked before the work started and the levels were good. He stated that they do sell maintenance plans and do furnace installations if I was interested in the future (which I don't begrudge him, I mean they are a business after all), but I never felt pressured to purchase anything. He also recommended that if we did not have a CO2 detector that we should get one to be on the safe side. I will definitely be calling North Winds in the future. read more

The furnace wasn't running and it's winter. A part was ordered that turned out not to be needed, but caused a significant delay. Weren't charged for the part, but got stuck paying $475 to simply have a new thermostat installed and that took three visits. ($125 for the service call and $350 for the thermostat--which would retail at well under $100.) After the delays, we just needed heat at that point. I'd call it price gouging. To top it off, while the service person was professional and courteous, he was not willing to even spend the few extra minutes to put the correct time into the programmable thermostat. Next time, we'll call another company. read more

My daughters A/C stopped working on a Sunday night. Of course, Monday it was 90 degrees. I called for service and they weren't sure they could get to her that day but they did. I was grateful for that. They replaced the dual run capacitor. I thought the bill was high for what they had to do ($335). Today in our city I just had ours replaced and it was ($125). When my daughter needs a new furnace we won't be calling Northwind. That's for sure. read more

It doesn't happen very often to me, but in this case I made the right call! When I bought my home ten years ago I called for service on my furnace and was so pleased with this company. Our furnace went out on a cold January day a couple years ago and was filling the house with carbon monoxide. After my call someone was here within an hour, and we had a new furnace installed by the end of the day! It's great to know I have a knowledgeable company keeping my family safe! Igniter Switch went out on Thanksgiving. Called on friday they quoted $450 service call. $250 Weekend Service call. Scheduled them for Monday. Told dispatcher that we knew it was the Igniter Switch and asked for a quote. Dispatcher was not able to give one. Technician shows up and changes the igniter switch and furnace starts working. They Charge $99 for service call... $250 for a $30 Igniter Switch and says thats what is listed in the book. Well if its in the book WHY didnt dispatch tell us what it would cost?!!! read more

We have a complex Carrier system with two furnaces and 8 zones. We wanted to upgrade to wifi thermostats throughout the house for convenience. We contacted 4 different local HVAC companies. We only received one quote and that was from Phil at North Winds. The other companies weren't able to figure out what system to put in place to achieve what we wanted. We purchased the thermostats online and North Winds replaced the zone controllers and installed the thermostats that we provided. All thermostats and zones functioned as expected. After the install, I noticed the zone control motors squeaking loudly and making odd noises. Phil was very responsive by e-mail of my concerns. It appeared that due to the age and style of the existing damper motors, they were not suitable for one reason or another with the new zone control boards. Phil suggested that he would install new motors at no additional charge if I would purchase them. I agreed and frankly thought that this was fair given the age of the existing motors. I purchased the motors that I needed online and he promptly scheduled an appointment and installed them. The system now works as expected and I have brand new zone motors that were professionally installed and should last many years. read more

Do not hire this company. Once the firm gets you to sign a "maintenance contract" and you pay your money, good luck getting decent service. I signed several one-year contracts - for my furnace and AC - over the past 3 years. The company came out 2x per year, so it was 6 interactions. Three of those were poor. The first was when the tech came out to check on my furnace and didn't bother bringing the filter. Filter replacement is part of the contract; I had to go to North Winds' office to get the filter and install it myself. The second time was December of 2017. This tech showed up without the filter for my furnace humidifier - also covered by the maintenance contract. I called after Christmas to have it replaced and was charged $100. When I contacted Tracy Archer at North Winds and inquired, she promised to look into it and get back to me the next day. Guess what? She never did, and that was over a month ago. I wrote her an e-mail to ask about it - using an earlier e-mail she had sent to me so mine did not go into some spam folder - and she never responded. Two weeks ago, I scheduled someone to come out to check my AC. It was covered by my contract, but I intended not to do another maintenance contract with North Winds given my bad experiences with the firm. Now there is a 3-hour window to wait for the service guy - mine was 9 to noon. At noon - no tech, and no phone call. I called the office, and the young woman who answered couldn't be bothered to apologize, instead telling me that "I was next in line." I said I wanted a refund - the $100 and the part of my maintenance contract for the AC repair. She really wanted me off the phone, so she said "she'd look into it." Yeah, right. Never heard back, and that was 10 days ago. Do not make the same mistake that I made. Do not enter into a maintenance contract with North Winds. Once the firm gets your money, it cannot be bothered to do service properly. You'll pay for things you should not have to pay for, and then when you inquire about them you won't hear back. You'll sit waiting for repair folks who cannot be bothered to show up or even call. Don't waste your time. Find another company. read more

Do not use these people for anything. I had a heating issue on a Sunday and North Winds was called to check it out. After the initial assessment (for the associated $125 service call on a Sunday...which I understand is higher on the weekend), it was determined that my thermostat needed replacement. North Winds replaced the defective thermostat with an identical thermostat (which I can purchase online for $40) and then called the next day to tell me that in addition to the $125 charge to assess the issue, it would be another $305 for the installation of the thermostat. Including the initial assessment and through installation of the new thermostat, North Winds was there approximately 45 minutes. I understand a possible product markup, but $430 for 45 minutes to install a $40 thermostat? I initially gave North Winds the benefit of the doubt and contacted their office to get additional information as to the cost breakdown for the thermostat and the labor, as I expressed confusion as to why a $40 thermostat would result in a $305 charge. I was just repeatedly told that it was a "book price" and that was it. No one could explain how they arrived at that number. I am not unreasonable or unwilling to pay the appropriate cost for great service and high quality products, but I got neither from North Winds. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but North Winds' unprofessionalism was so astounding that I felt it was necessary. read more

North Winds installed a new air conditioner and furnace in my home this week and it was the smoothest job I could ever imagined. The workers (Tim and Don) were professional and quiet and cleaned everything up. They explained everything about my new systems to me before they left, including the new Wifi thermostat. I was visiting my parents over Christmas when their furnace gave out, which was... well, since I live in the South now... NOT VERY FUN. I wanted to leave a review for these guys, though, because they came out quickly to get everything working again, and my parents signed up for a maintenance plan (my suggestion), so that they hopefully wouldn't get that same problem again!
