Poor Communication and Shoddy Work. They elected not to fix/finish job. A simple outdoor stair repair - a landing and ONE step - that should have taken 2-3 days dragged on for five weeks. Communication was awful--they rarely showed up as scheduled, and I was never updated on progress or tile design choices. I explained clearly how the tiles should match the existing pattern, even noting size differences. The workers nodded, but the final layout was random and nonsensical. When I asked them to redo it, they still arrived unpredictably, leaving me unsure when--or if--the job would be completed. The grout work was uneven, with gaps that wouldn't withstand weather, and some tiles were chipped during cleanup. They even missed areas hidden under flower pots. Despite repeated requests, the office offered virtually no updates, leaving the project frustrating and chaotic. After showing them photos of bad grouping and damaged tiles, they told me they would not be returnining. This should have been an easy job, but it was handled poorly from start to finish. North Shore did an amazing job replacing an entire wall of brick veneer that was degrading on the side of my house. The new brick seamlessly matches with the existing brick and you can tell that a high level attention to detail was used to complete the job. There were a few hick-ups along the way but project manager Luke and crew lead Roman went above and beyond to make certain I was informed throughout the process and that I received the best value for the work that was done and they even threw in a few extras. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them again if I need other masonry work done to my house in the future. read more

North Shore carried out exterior repairs and replacements for the exterior of our residence, as well as the brick fence that surrounds our property. After the work commenced, I had a couple questions and concerns about some areas of our exterior that may have been missed or overlooked. Luke Bergman, the North Shore Project Manager, was extremely attentive to my questions and visited promptly to meet with me and work out a solution with myself and his crew that made everyone happy. He showed that our faith in him and his team was warranted, and we are very satisfied with the final result. North Shore replaced cracked mortar and secured several loose bricks at the base of my house in Northbrook. Some others were replaced for cosmetic reasons, while fresh caulking was applied as needed to my windows. The guys arrived early and made sure I was completely satisfied. Communication from the company was outstanding from beginning thru my job's completion. Owner Les O'Hara stopped by to confirm my satisfaction, although he didn't wear a face covering. Cleanup could have been a touch better as I found old caulk left on the property. But, I'm nitpicking. North Shore's work is top-notch and I highly recommend them. read more

North Shore did a wonderful job with all the tuckpointing and lintel bar replacement work that our 3 story building in Oak Park needed. They spent a lot of time talking all the issues over with us before they started work and as work went on they sent really good pictures on the progress and few other issues that popped up along the way. I had 5 other companies come to give me estimates and theirs was in the middle cost wise and reasonable for all the work needed. A lot of the others did not spend the time that North Shore did explaining the work needed when they came. They were very prompt every day and the crew was very professional and pleasant to work with. They were great about clean up every day too and especially at the end. We scheduled an appointment on 11/27/17 for some remodeling we wanted done to our powder room - stacked stone. A John Dabros arrived, spent about 3 minutes looking at the room (no measurement, no notes, nothing) said he would bring some samples of stone by and quickly left...and that's the last we heard from John Dabros and North Shore Brickwork and Windows. I got numerous quotes and North Shore was within the budget. I had a few more questions and called to have them come out again. Les had cancelled on me a few times but finally they sent out someone else out to look at the job. I never received an updated quote If you didnt want my business why did you waste my time. I have now hired another company who is doing an excellent job. I would not waste my time contacting this company. Their are other companies out there who would appreciate the work. read more

Les and his crew did extensive repairs to our very old and formerly crumbling condo this past summer. North Shore was the 5th masonry company we've used and the ONLY one to fix our complicated masonry issues. They aren't afraid to get into the messy details, like finding matching really old bricks or working in difficult to reach locations. They explained that it was an iterative process to fix masonry leaks when the source isn't evident, and they were right and they stuck with it for a very reasonable price. As an added bonus, they have a partnership of sorts with an excellent roofing company, O'Hara's Son, who also did excellent work for us. I don't know which brought the other to us, but the two of them solved some horrible complicated problems that no other company could solve. We are so happy our excellent management, Prairie Shores, recommended them. I can't tell you how nice it is not to come home to another ceiling fallen in after a rainstorm. read more

I've used North Shore Brickwork for a variety of tuck pointing jobs. They have always done quality work and provide great service.

Two years ago I had a full roof redo of the building. Unfortunately when the top floor tenants moved out I noticed some minor signs of water in the living room ceiling towards the front of the building. Upon roof inspection, the parapet wall appeared to need tuck pointing to correct. I called Les at North Shore Brickwork & Windows for a quote. I wasn't available the day he stopped by so I sent a few pictures and he sent me a quote for what he though would be 1 day of work. Unfortunately when the workers came to do the work the inside parapet wall was in terrible shape and basically came apart as they removed the roofing strip from the wall (I watched this happen). This required a total redo of the inside wall and a bunch of other roofing work. Les stopped by the following morning and apologized for not realizing this when he sent the quote and informed me it would take at least another day of work (at additional cost). He genuinely felt bad about not catching this (not his fault he didn't have access to the roof as I was out of town) and charged a reduced rate to finish the work. The workers were fantastic, on time, informative, super pleasant and did great work fixing any issues that existed with the wall. They were always on time and cleaned up the place extremely well before all was said and done. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and they will be my first call if I ever need any masonry work in the future. read more

Needed chimney work due to a leak. Wasn't not sure who to call for this. A friend of mine told me call Les at North Shore Brickwork and Windows because he was happy with the work he has done for him. Les came out on a Friday, assessed the chimney and was nice enough to give me 4 options, one of them being free and to try and clean gutters near chimney first. I liked him right away because people these days just want your money and don't give you options.He also noticed a crack next to the garage and another mason company said it wouldn't help to fix it, but he said his guys would try to fix while they were here. His crew came out Monday and did such a nice job. The chimney looks great and the crack next to the garage is fixed and some of the cracks around the house were even filled in, which is fantastic! John who came with the crew told me what they were going to do and when all the work was finished he walked me around the house and showed me everything that was done. I would definitely recommend North Shore Brickwork and Windows and will be using them again. read more
