Star Tuckpointing was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm glad I chose them. They were straightforward, honest, and fairly priced from start to finish. They took the time to explain exactly what work needed to be done, why it was necessary, and answered all of my questions, including advice on future masonry projects around my property. Communication was excellent, with clear expectations on timing, scope, and duration of the work. Most importantly, the quality of the finished work was outstanding. Highly recommend. 10/10. Peter and Voytek are the absolute best. read more

Star Tuckpointing is amazing and I highly recommend them! My initial request for a quote was answered very fast by Peter. During his visit to my home to give me a quote he was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. After the quote, they were able to get me scheduled within the time frame they provided. Voytek did an amazing job going over the project with me before it begun and keeping me posted on any updates. For the actual project, the Star Tuckpointing team was very fast, neat, and efficient. I got work done to my chimney and various places around my home and the brick color match was spot on and looked so perfect. As for neatness, I could not even tell anything happened so I was super happy to not have to clean up anything! I definitely will be going back to Star Tuckpointing in the future for my home. They are reliable, professional, and a joy to have worked with! read more

I have only fantastic things to say about Star Tuckpointing. First of all, it is a family business and their customer service and communication is excellent. They committed to the start date and end date, and nothing got in the way of that. The quality of work is superb and their price was competitive and fair. The workers were extremely polite and considerate. We are very happy with Peter and Voytek and strongly recommend them for your tuckpointing needs. Thank you all! read more

We recently needed major brick repair for our Bucktown home and hired Star Tuckpointing for the job. The structural integrity of our roofline was deteriorating, requiring them to completely rebuild the chimney and the parapet walls. They also handled steel lintel replacement over the windows and installed new, proper flashing to ensure the masonry was permanently watertight. The communication from management was direct, pricing was transparent, and the crew stayed on schedule from demolition to final cleanup. Finding a dependable masonry company that properly installs flashing and correctly handles lintels is difficult, but this crew did the job right. Solid work and a highly capable contractor. read more

Great work. Transparent and I like the third party verification. The team did a great job

I reside in an older building which developed numerous masonry issues prior to being converted to a condo building. STAR has helped to restore the integrity of the structure of our building, section by section. They are highly knowledgeable and skilled. STAR has been able to resolve many very challenging masonry issues. They've been able to use various strategies to work from the upper level of a four-level building. Their prices are very reasonable. Peter and Voytek, the owners are highly professional, communicative and timely. Their jokes and pleasant personalities are added perks! read more

Very professional and thorough team from the intial visit, to work performed, to final payment arrangements. Wojtek was very quick to respond and provided very reasonable pricing for the work performed. His team came when promised and performed tuckpointing repairs to various areas of our home, chimney repair, and brick replacement. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone needing these services. read more

I'm writing this review because-- not only did Voytek take the time out to help us this week with a canopy leak on our front porch after all the rain we had, but we are pleased to say we have been working with Star Tuckpointing for many years. Star Tuckpointing is incredible! Voytek and Peter are extremely knowledgeable, whether it's a 100+ old home or newer construction. Their work from initial communication through final completion is flawless. A few examples from the past: They cleaned limestone sills beautifully, replaced old exterior bricks and tuck pointed our110 yr old home. These projects were completed quite a while ago and still after many years, it looks like it was done last week. Recently, they fixed loosened bluestone treads on rear stairs. It's perfect! Voytek and Peter take pride in everything they do. Their craftsmanship is impeccable. They are professional, honest and an absolute pleasure to work with. Highly recommend Star Tuckpointing!! read more

Great people to work with. High quality work on our brick house, at fair prices. Highly recommend!

Star Tuckpointing weather sealed our 3 story condo building (in 2023) and filled every single potential inlet for water on the exterior, some of which we were aware of and many of which the residents didn't. They did a tremendous job, we didn't expect any company to be so thorough and timely. They did silicone sealant, and two coats of paint and some mortar work where needed. It's not something any HOA wants to have to do, but all units couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. The building is better sealed than it was when it was brand new. Thanks Peter and team! read more

Fast response to quoting the work, which was substantive tuckpointing, new lintels, etc on a 1904 brick house. Suggested how best to match the brick mortar on 3 sides, while being cost efficient. Also made recommendations on what did NOT need to be done (and explained why). - which was a very nice surprise. Work was efficiently done, cleanup was great. Great value for the amount of work done. read more

Star did not perform any work on our house but the consultation blew me away. I won't hesitate to contact Star and recommend them for any future project. Honesty and integrity is what most of us homeowner look for. read more

Our condo association had done tuckpointing with Star Tuckpointing a few years back. Recently we had issues with water leaks after a heavy storm on some windows. After reaching out, Voytek was responsive and schedule time at his soonest availability to check up on what was going on. Within minutes of arrival he quickly identified the problem, quickly caulked the problematic areas, and was off on his way. No charge! Sheesh. While we had some significant work done in the past, we really appreciated Voytek's responsiveness and willingness to take care of a previous customer. Anyways, I know who I'm reaching out to in the future for any tuckpointing or exterior leak issues. 'Til next time, cheers! read more

Absolutely hire Star Tuckpointing. We waited several years to get tuckpointing done on our building because we thought the cost would be exorbitant and the work would be substandard. Boy, were we wrong when Peter, Voytek and their crew finished our job. The cost, the communication, the follow-thru were all top notch. They gave us just what we needed at a very fair price. Love these guys. read more

The job involved rebuilding of the chimney. An initial written proposal was provided that detailed the work to be completed. While the quote was on the high end relative to other similar businesses, I chose them based on their reviews of work completed for others. Indeed the work was done well and the outcome as described both by the initial assessment completed by Peter, and as described by Voytek. When Voytek came by to arrange for the work to begin, I inquired as to the length of time needed to complete the job. Two to three days was his answer, leaving the impression that work would require that much time. On day one the crew showed up at 8. Later that day Voytek called to say that they needed to extend the reconstruction further down than expected and that an addition $950 would be required to do the job. I thought that was quite a bit beyond the initial quote of $4300. He said $800 was as low as he could go. Interestingly, at the end of day one, the crew had completed all of the reconstruction, dismantled their scaffolding and departed by 5 pm. On day two workers returned and applied the mortar to the chimney; they were at the job no more than 90 minutes max. Two weeks later two men returned and sprayed sealant on the mortar, a job that took 20 - 30 minutes. Based on the fact that the total job took no more than one work day plus another two hours of work time, I did not feel an additional $800. was merited. I paid the bill as originally proposed. After payment, a final invoice came through two weeks after I mailed a check with not an additional $800, but an additional $500. Not clear why the proposed additional costs changed. Honestly, I felt the additional proposed cost was taking advantage of me. When discussing it with Voytek, he said they did not quote jobs based on actual work time required for the job, but that three days was merited because they completed the work over a period of three days even though the total work time didn't add up to a total of a day and a half of work hours. These people did very good quality work, but I find the methods of price manipulation difficult to accept since the amount of additional work did not extend anyone's actual work day. I would suggest that future clients ask them to clearly stipulate the amount of time the job actually requires and how that determines final costs. The fuzzy method of adding costs but not needing more time to do the job was not acceptable to me. read more

I had my chimney rebuilt from the roofline up, and some tuckpointing done to my foundation. When Star quoted me they were totally upfront about pricing and gave detailed explanations of the work to be done. Fast, polite service. Voytek was very responsive to any questions I had. When they had finished , the workmen left the property spotless. And most important, the work was done masterfully. I don't have to worry about my chimney collapsing into my living room anymore. We finally got around to fix some nagging issues with our chimney on our 80 yr old house. The attempts at fixing the obvious deterioration with tuckpointing clearly wasn't working. Thankfully, our neighbor had used Star Tuckpointing on their chimney several years ago, with outstanding results, and so we knew who to contact. I was impressed with the efficiency and knowledge of both Peter and Voytek in explaining our particular problem and recommending a solution. I guess that comes with the many years they have been in the business. The job was completed without a hitch, and the site was left clean. As an aside, in doing the work it was noticed that a portion of our flat roof needed some attention, and we were alerted to the issue by Voytek. The crew put up a temporary patch at no additional charge until we could contact a roofer. Thank goodness, as we probably wouldn't have noticed until it developed a major leak. I whole heartedly recommend Star Tuckpointing for your masonry issues and plan to use them again for the brickwork on our home. read more

My almost 90-year-old bungalow needed some tuckpointing. I got an estimate from another company and then called Star, which had done work for me before. Star's estimate was a much better value, so I went with them. They showed up on time, finished on time, and they were great communicators. I had the south side of my house tuckpointed where there was spalling from water and condensation, the garage where some bricks were cracked and crumbling, and the chimney cap replaced. They replaced 3 flue tiles in the chimney, the interior of which was completely rusted out. Would I recommend them? Hell to the YES! read more

Peter and Voytek have been providing masonry services to our building for several years. Our building is an older building. We've had some complicated masonry issues. In each instance, Peter and Voytek were able to make accurate assessments, and complete needed repairs. In two instances, their crew was able to complete repairs using a bosun chair! Peter and Voytek are very communicative, responsive, timely and professional. Their prices have been reasonable. I highly recommend STAR Tuckpointing! read more

Star Tuckpointing repaired one chimney and replaced another for us. They responded to my first inquiry within a day or so, came right out to view the situation, and sent over a proposal. They scheduled and did the work just as they said they would. They even fixed a small problem they discovered on the roof. Voytek was thorough in his explanation and happy to answer all of my questions. It was such a pleasure to work with a company that did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, and did it well. I highly recommend Star Tuckpointing and won't hesitate to use them again for future tuckpointing needs. read more

Our vintage condo building needed a utility door replaced. We contacted several contractors including Star who has done masonry maintenance for us. We knew we had a problem with the bricks on our home, built in 1944, because we could see water-soaked brick after each rainstorm. We contacted Star Tuckpointing based on the reviews on this site, and we are so glad we did. The first brother to come gave us a clear assessment, and the second brother brought the crew out (father, uncle, godfather, cousin) and gave us clear information about what would be done. When repairs became more extensive that either of us realized, he was able to show us where walls were bowed, steel beams were rotted, bricks were crumbling, What really impressed me was the fact that this company collected old Chicago brick and used it to replace our damaged brick. If you looked at our home, you can not see the difference between the original brick and the replaced brick, which is important to me, Highly recommended! read more

Star just finished working on my office building on Rockwell St. in the City. I NEVER write reviews but these guys really deserve a big thumbs up. They did what they said they would do. They were very through and very considerate going above and beyond to explain the job, walk through the process with me and get my feedback and approvals after the work was done. This was a big project and they knocked it out of the park. So happy I found them and went with STAR. Great Family business!! Thank you. read more

From start to finish, working with Star Tuckpointing was so easy and they do an incredible job. My project was pretty big (tuckpointing entire front face of a 1929 Tudor home, spot tucking other places, and lintel replacement) and due to covid and the weather, we waited several months--but trust me, they are worth the wait! We do not have easy brick--it's almost 100 years old and is wire cut which makes tuckpointing the brick more tedious. Peter is a fabulous tuckpointer--he did an incredible job of keeping the wire-cut brick clean while tuckpointing between the bricks. Voytek was awesome at keeping me in the loop regarding timeline and advising me on whether to do different grout in the limestone area and to remove the window shutters--I'm very happy with the advice Voytek provided. I couldn't have been happier working with Star Tuckpointing. I honestly am looking forward to contracting out the other sides of our house in the future because they were so easy and good to work with! Do not waste your time looking anywhere else--just book them, you will not be disappointed! read more

I'm writing this unsolicited review because I believe that great companies serving our communities deserve to be recognized. So, in short, Peter, Voytek and their masonry team at Star Tuckpointing did a fantastic job on our project. As a consumer, it starts with transparency and Peter provided just that with a detailed estimate that included pictures of highlighted areas needing work and the nature of that work. And also important to us, was the estimate was provided that same day while the information about the job was fresh. Peter was candid and practical about what work was needed and what he thought was not. And while price is always a factor, these other attributes are equally important. He gave us confidence that Star Tuckpointing would be the right company for this job. Once we chose Star Tuckpointing and put a deposit down, Voytek managed the job and worked with us on scheduling. The masonry crew consisted of 2 tradesman that worked well together and did a terrific job. We were really happy about the quality of the work they did. It was obvious they knew masonry work really well (not just tuckpointing). And Voytek, who handled job scheduling and oversight was terrific to work with. His communication was very good. Overall, the quality and pride they had in their work and their company was evident to us throughout. In summary, our experience was that Star Tuckpointing provided effective communication, a transparent estimate, at a fair price with competent and quality masonry work. Just an overall positive experience. read more

I have used Star Tuckpointing throughout the years and can't be happier. They are extremely professional, get back to you promptly and they have never failed me and I would not look around anywhere else. They are the real thing, I am one that never goes into these sites to enter reviews but when I see extreme excellent work, I want to make sure others that have shopped around like me in the past, doubtful if this company will take care of the issue, they can come here and read other great reviews and reassure that Voytek and team will solve the problem. Thanks guys! read more

Star did great work and we would use them again. Their guys were very clean, worked hard, and got the job quickly.

I cannot rate Star Tuckpointing highly enough. They have systematically saved our building money over the past few years by being kind, awesome, honest business-people. Peter came out to advise our 8-unit condo building on what seemed a major leak. Solution - a simple caulk job, which we did ourselves, that worked. They made no money in this instance, of course, showing great integrity. We subsequently had him out to quote a job to spot tuckpoint the entire building. They were a fair price compared to the other two companies who quoted, and their competitive but thorough estimate won them our contract. This turned out to be a fantastic decision, and I would HIGHLY recommend hiring Star. They provided seasoned and honest masons who advised us on general building health and timelines for future work. They completed the work within the originally stated timeline. Voytek, the coordinator, was exceptionally reliable, easy to coordinate with, and remained pleasant and professional. But what really stood out was that the masons took notice of a number of cracks and chinks that were outside of the scope of the work and patched them for us, too! Some were cosmetic, but some were both cosmetic and functional. Our building now feels tight and secure for the coming winter. In the course of talking with Voytek, I found out that their teams of masons are highly skilled, with most working for them for many years, and that they dedicate certain teams of masons to certain types of projects such as brick or greystone/brownstone waterproofing, tuckpointing, rebuilds, etc. I recommend Star for any job, big or small. You will not be disappointed. read more

Our building capstones around the roof parapet were installed during construction without a moisture barrier or wicking. Additionally, there as lots of need for Tuckpointing on the face of our building and the inside walls of the parapet. None had been done in the building since it was build over 10 years ago. Peter initially came out to do a walkthrough with me to prepare a bid. He was very thorough and professional, taking time to explain everything to me. Voytek handled the project once it began as my main point fo contact. He was extremely responsive and had everything very well organized. The project was completed on time and very professionally. I really enjoyed working with Voytek because of his responsiveness. He was quick to return calls and was onsite himself at times with the crew. He gave me a clear understanding of what work was being done and scheduling. Being in a self managed building means me and the rest of the board are often tasked with securing bids and organizing maintenance projects. If you are in Chicago and have had to do this, you know how difficult it can be to even get a contract to call you back after your initial inquiry. This was not the case with Voytek and Star and I would gladly work with them again and recommend them. read more

Awesome firm with great services. I had them tuckpoint the front and back of my house and replace the sagging lintel on the front basement window, which had separated over the years. You can't tell it was replaced which is due to the meticulous work performed. Also, I'm having a deck built and they not only accommodated the builder's schedule, they were able to come in on Saturdays to finish up the back of the house. I'm very happy with the results. Voytek communicated extremely well throughout the entire process. read more
