Good communication and a very nice job on tuckpointing and various other masonry work including good daily cleanup which is sadly uncommon these days. Not the cheapest, but a very good option in Near North suburbs or far north Chicago neighborhoods if you really care about quality. We had quite a large project that we did with Evanston Masonry. Our century-old brick needed considerable work, with all the mortar being ground out and redone, as well as new lintels, several rows of replaced brick (where previous homeowners had done the wrong thing, resulting in whole rows sagging and collapsing the top of the window), and even a chimney rebuild. From quote to start was more than a year (due to other constraints), and once started the project took several weeks with a lot of scheduling nuances and coordination with other things. Eric and his team did a fantastic job throughout. The crew was friendly and respectful and their work was and is impeccable. Eric was over-the-top communicative both before, during, and after the project. All little issues were resolved immediately, often going above and beyond. We were particularly impressed with how well Eric and his team worked with the older brick, which requires special care and mortar. Even *matching* old brick is quite hard because the size is different from modern brick and there aren't many companies which make it, meaning color options are quite limited. I own a three unit brick apartment building in Evanston. About 6 years ago Evanston Masonry redid the parapets which were falling down and dangerous. They did a great job. Last year I decided to tuckpoint the whole building. It was a substantial job and we split it in to two years to spread the cost. They did the front last year (2022) and did amazing work as usual. Fast forward to 2023 and we tackled the remainder of the building. Again fantastic work. EM were the most expensive of three quotes, but not by much. I knew Gary and Eric from previous work and I wanted this done right. They show up on time, provide accurate quotes, great crews, great clean up, ongoing communication, did a fair bit of extra work which was needed and they didn't charge me for. Don't cheap out on tuckpointing for your home - you will pay more in the long run having to get it corrected or dealing with shoddy work/leaks etc. Call these guys. Thanks Eric and Gary! read more

We just finished using Evanston Masonry for 2 separate basement tuck pointing jobs. The first job was to tuck point between stones on our basement stone walls while the second job, since we liked their work from the first job, was to tuck point another section of brick walls as well as another stone wall section in our basement. The end result was very nice. Eric was very responsive on getting us estimates. The crew, unlike a lot of other workmen, were on time, courteous, professional, and cleaned up nicely after the jobs were completed. I cannot review their work but their quote process was extraordinarily frustrating. 1st Eric came out, looked and the building and told me he'd make an appointment to return with the superintendent to asses the job and he could answer my questions, which Eric could not... wut? Was he only sent to pre-qualify the job? 2 weeks later, he came with the supervisor who had a great eye and answered all my questions. Eric promised a quote within 3 weeks, nope. He continually called to tell me "sending a quote soon" but it took over a month and then he called to tell me he needed to set up a meeting for me to come in and have his uncle explain the quote to me. Really? I've spent years supervising big ($500k+) construction projects and told him to send me the quote and I'd ask questions after reviewing. He insisted I needed to meet with them so his uncle could walk me though the document. Me: "fine, send it so I can review it and be prepared with questions." Him: " I'll see." Never heard from him again. Infantilizing. Went with a competitor who was very professional, treated me like an adult and did an AMAZING job! read more

Gary is a true master at his craft - an expert who genuinely cares. We live in a century old home and we knew our chimney needed help . . . we just didn't realize how much help it was going to need. On top of that, the parapet wall above our garage was at risk of totally collapsing because the steel holding it up had completely corroded.
