I've had a mixed experience with North Jersey Tree. Rich himself seems knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely helpful, which is why I decided to use the company again after a previous job. Unfortunately, the interaction with the office staff was a completely different story. The person who answered the phone (I'm not sure if it was Danielle or Tara) was extremely rude and dismissive. Rather than trying to address my concerns, she was argumentative and quick to tell me I was wrong, even in a situation where I believe she had misunderstood the issue. Because of this experience, I ultimately decided to cancel my order. It's disappointing, especially since I was ready to return as a repeat customer based on my positive impression of Rich. Wish I could give one star. Richie aka the boss is an asshole. He gave my husband a quote and told him he would take care of some of the minor work which didn't need to be added to the contract. Because we used them previously, we trusted his word. The crew for this most part was professional, all except one of them who said they don't do anything extra because the boss accuses them of stealing. North Jersey Tree Specialists ruined our slate sidewalk by driving their crane truck over it without proper protection. They took full responsibility and promised to replace the broken sidewalk, but instead, they stopped responding to my calls and emails and it has become clear that they lied. While they did a decent job on the tree, they were rushed to get to their next job and tried to leave after 30 minutes when the job was not even close to being done. I pointed out all the remaining deadwood that needed to be cut and they did complete it to my satisfaction. However, I now have to pay to replace the slate sidewalk that they ruined. read more

Then after we said "no" and then had a branch break so we called them again and they arranged a convenient schedule. And thirdly, called us to confirm the date. I wish I could write an amazing review, because the process of getting an estimate through to the work itself was fantastic. But everything fell apart the day I got threatening voicemails and text messages about payment. Upon originally paying via a credit card -- over the phone and as soon as the work was complete -- the person we spoke with apparently mistyped the credit card number. The charge was never processed. They called us back, we called them back, and they never returned our call. Fast forward a couple of weeks -- the owner leaves us a nasty voicemail and threatening text message. "I'm going to show up at your house to get my money." Really, sir? Perhaps you should call your office and tell them to do their jobs. Which apparently he eventually did, because they finally returned our call, and correctly processed the invoice. All it would have taken was for the office to call us back, and we would have used this company for future tree maintenance. But no -- not only will we never hire them again, we may file a complaint with the BBB. Tip: don't threaten your customers, and especially not when the mistake is on your end. This place did work for me, was thousands of dollars, not so many years back. They left stuff undone I paid for and worse even they made deep ruts in my lawn from a giant truck I asked them NOT to drive on my lawn for that very reason! Wow. I called about and often did not return calls. Strings you along, makes excuses. Never came to do it. I got over it, and needed some more work done. Fast forward, years later and who knows why but I call them again for another quote on a few limbs off a large tree. That said, getting this quote was was like pulling teeth and maybe it's a place not for smaller jobs but that's mind boggling, why blow off what may later lead to more referrals and bigger jobs? I actually referred this place to a neighbor too, who spent a bunch on them. yet they nickel and dimed me on 50 bucks off a price quote I asked for?? WOW and the phone tag about this small job, it went on for months, in the winter have you. They were available for this job, (2-3 hours worth) on any day of the week. They would not have bothered with me at all had it been busy season. Conclusion is this: They don't care. They don't need menial work, well, as they see it. For anything small and $1000 or less, you should expect to be blown off and may have to chase this company to schedule your work, unless you agreed on the spot right after he quoted it. If you ask for, in example, $50 less off their quoted price, (while they forget the $$$$ previous work I'd given them and a referral to neighbor $$ last year) trust they act like its $500 you asked for and blow you off without saying yes or no and not scheduling any date. I called a few times, left messages, no calls back a few times, once got a call back about 2 weeks after one message.... Keep in mind this also. People mention in reviews, this guy Rich as a recurring theme. Seeing other reviews the theme is the same, Rich is loose cannon and he does think who he is. I dealt with him and he seems nice but seems full of himself. A few things like delays, leaving messes behind, screwing up and ruining your lawn and grass just to get to your trees. Boards they (pretend to) use were hardly any nor helped! Unreal. Also, in that last job, left me a stump that was to be ground down to grade but was not fully done, big area was left with visible part of stump left behind. When I called them many times after to come finish it, this was over a 3 year period have you!! Yes really. Each time I was told they'd take care of it and just never came back. I do advise to find another company for your tree needs, as I have, a cheaper place with better work and nicer people. I am glad I did. read more

This company is the worst professional service I have ever used. After helping them get two jobs they left my tree in the backyard uncut. They intended to sell my tree to a lumber mill and leave me with good oak logs i could split. When asked why the tree was in my yard they indicated they could not find me better logs so decided to leave my tree instead which were 9 ft in length and 500 lbs. Not only did they lie and change the terms of our agreement, they wouldn't take the tree logs unless i agreed to pay them more. They showed up to my house after 8pm and harassed my family while demanding more money to haul the tree logs away the following day. Horrendous - my advice BEWARE. read more

Many reasons to love their service. Easily the best price, very fast/efficient, and thorough. We had a massive tree overhanging our house that we needed to remove. I reached out to many tree cutting companies and it was clear that there are very few companies that have the hardware in-house to handle trees this big. This company has the hardware and as a result their prices are extremely competitive. To top it off the tree was gone with almost no trace in 7 hours. They even blew the sawdust off the roof and the neighbor's yard afterwards.. I guess my only warning would be that if you prefer service with ribbons and kisses you're not gonna get it here but you can pay a lot more elsewhere to get it. 100% happy and satisfied. It took a while for them to get to my house to removed downed trees. In fairness there was a major storm with tons of trees down. But at no point, of all the times I called the office, was anyone there nothing but cordial. Always polite. The crew that showed up were the same. The most honest quote and time it would take for removal by far! The job took them a little over 2 hours (including a great clean up) for a 4 man crew. Had estimate. Rich gave quote. Hired company. Explain needed trees down within 3 weeks because was having fence installed. Rich stated would give up 3 day notice as to what day they were coming. Rich stated job would be done within 2-3 weeks. After 2 weeks with no call from them to schedule on I called them. Was given another number to call Jessica their scheduler. She's very nasty. She stated their crane was in the shop For six days and they got behind. Stated would call me back within a few days and schedule job. Never received call so called her the following week. She was even nastier and stated they were still working on storm work and did it know when they would be done. I told her we needed to cancel contract as we couldn't wait any longer. They even had the down right nerve to lie to our home owners insurance saying they were going to come back and finish the job! This company is by far the worst when it comes to professionalism and customer service. The initial meet and greet for the estimate went well (price was right) and Rich seemed like he would do the job well, I felt this was the right company to move forward with. The problem was that the day we expected them they were a no show, then 2 days later, showed ready to go without warning. Rich from the second he set foot out of the truck went on a tirade, he began yelling and cussing at one of the workers as well and my husband and anyone in his path. An issue that could have easily been averted with a cool head and professional conversation instead got way out of hand in seconds with every other word being a cuss. It got to a point were I felt the situation was escalating to an unsafe level and my husband at that point kicked Rich off our job. The irrational, unprofessional and lunatic behavior was uncalled for especially as the owner. Let me start by saying I did not use this service. The (new) neighbors next door hired this company to take down a few trees. My landlord is an 80 year old man and is far from a typical old snooping 80 year old. He is bright and very aware. This company began cutting down trees ON HIS PROPERTY. Myself and my landlord came out to calmly discuss what they were doing and we simply wanted to ask who their boss was and how we can go about talking with the owner of the property as well as whom had instructed them to cut down my landlord's trees. Immediately a fellow by the name of Russell came out and starting dropping the F-word every five seconds, not to me, to my 80 year old land lord. He claimed the trees were dead (not all of them were) and claimed he's an "expert". Dead or not, they were on my landlord's property. We had to call the cops because there almost was a domestic dispute due to this gentleman. I will ensure my friends and neighbors stay clear of this company. If their employees cannot show the professionalism required to answer a simple question, or worse curse out an 80 year old calm man that genuinely wanted answers, it shows just how "professional" they truly are. There is more to running a business than just cutting down trees. A little respect, especially to our elders, would be at least expected from anyone, especially a business. read more

My husband and I have the highest accolades for Rich and his team of highly skilled tree professionals. We had 6 large oak trees removed from our property as well as branches trimmed from another large tree that was hanging over our house. They also trimmed some pesky tall bushes that were hitting the side of the house. They came equipped with the most modern equipment (their own crane, wood chipper, grinder, chainsaws) and communicated via headphones. We were fascinated at how skillfully they all operated together and felt totally comfortable and assured that they knew exactly what they were doing.. Everything was done perfectly and the clean up was outstanding. All of our neighbors were watching "the show" and equally as impressed. Their prices are reasonable, and these guys are workaholics. I really can't say enough good things about North Jersey Tree Specialist. I scheduled an estimate visit, and after seeing that our one tree needed to be taken care of immediately, Rich shifted things in his schedule so that he could help us out the very next day. NJTS' work was phenomenal. Rich came over and pointed out things I would never have noticed: dead branches that needed to be trimmed and apparently the pine that was pressing roughly up against our house was diseased (we wanted it removed anyway). I recognize I'm not particularly savvy with vegetative life with my "black thumb" and everything, so it made me feel just THAT much better knowing that I could entrust our yard into ____'s clearly knowledgeable hands. The last reason I would highly recommend NJTS is because they're thoughtful and kind. I completely forgot to take down our Christmas tree on time, so we had to wait until April for the town to restart the collection of vegetative waste. The Christmas tree was literally sitting right outside our garage, and I knew that now I would need to somehow get that hulking tree into quite a few of those biodegradable bags. I... just...ugh. This was looming in the future like death, and there are no words for how much I didn't want to deal with the situation. When I came home to our newly trimmed front tree and completely dug out backyard pine, I noticed that the Christmas tree was gone, too! The Heavenly angels of NJTS took the ogre of a Christmas tree away! So I realize this anecdote is not applicable to most situations (hopefully no one reading this procrastinates as badly with Christmas trees as I do), but NJTS' thoughtfulness and kindness are the characteristics I want to highlight; qualities that just made me trust Rich and his crew all the more. read more

THE WORST!!! BEWARE!!! This is the worst company i have ever had to deal with. At first, Rich, was nice and seemed to know what he was talking about. Once hired though, the vulgar, nasty unprofessional switch was on. Bad language all day long, yelling and screaming at his employees as if they were slaves. His operating methods were extremely dangerous. Surprisingly no one was seriously hurt or killed. Very untrustworthy and dishonest. He did not do as he said, and did not finish the job. Tried to collect money late at night while still unfinished, yelling and cussing at me and my wife. Demanded more money to take away wood left behind. BEWARE!! Check and VERIFY all insurance and licence credentials, as this is a very shady, dangerous, unprofessional operation/operator. read more
